DirectAccess - Server 2012 R2, Windows 8 Client, "No SAs match the specified criteria"
I'm trying to get DA set up and it is being a major pain. I have the DA server set up and everything is green on the monitor, everything seems to be working there. I have successfully deployed the GPO to the client, and the client is trying to connect. However,
it will not connect and "Get-DaConnectionStatus" is saying "NameResolutionFailure".
So I'm working through this guide (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee844114%28v=ws.10%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396) to try and sort out the connection issue. The client creates an IP-HTTPS tunnel and I am able to ping the IPHTTPSInterface
on the DA server from the client, so it can reach the server (Note: I cannot ping the client from the server though).
Where I'm running into problems is on step 6 of the first part of that guide, where it says to use the command "netsh advfirewall
monitor show mmsa". The result of that command is "No SAs match the specified criteria".
Any ideas on why this issue is coming up, and how to fix it?
Hi
If everything seems to be OK on the DirectAccess Gateway, let's see what's going on the DirectAccess client. Can you produce a log as documented by this post :
http://directaccess.richardhicks.com/2014/04/22/unable-to-generate-directaccess-troubleshooting-logs-in-windows-8-x-clients/ and publish it?

Deployment Guide - Branchcache 2012 with Windows 7 clients
Is there a deployment guide for branchcache using Server 2012 and Windows 7 clients? I can find 2 guides, 1 for Branchcache 2008 with Windows 7 and 1 for 2012 with Windows 8. Wondering if I should just follow the 2012 guide for configuring branchcache servers
and 2008 guide for configuring Windows 7 clients including PKI?
ThanksHi,
Thanks for your post.
Windows Server 2012 is compatible with Windows 7.
But BranchCache in Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 provides substantial performance, manageability, scalability, and availability improvements. And there are some group policy only applied to client computers that are running Windows 8 not Windows 7.
So i would suggest you may choose client computers that running Windows 8.

Connect SQL Server 2012 from Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0
Hi,
I currently have a setup where ETL tool Ab Intio, running on a Linux server, connects to the SQL Server 2005 through a passthrough Wintel server with Windows Server 2003 OS using SQL server native client 9.0
Now I have the requirement to upgrade the SQL server from 2005 to 2012.
My question is, will it be possible to connect to SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0?
As per the specs, I need native client 11.0+ to fully support SQL Server 2012, but then, as per specs, native client 11.0 doesnot run on Windows server 2003. OS upgradation is currently not on the cards.
So will it be possible to the run the basic queries we use currently, if we can connect SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0/10.0, without updgrading the OS of the Wintel server?
Thanking you in advance!Hi Soumya,
Yes, you can use the SQL Server Native Client shipped with SQL Server 2005 to connect to a SQL Server 2012 instance, and there is no need to upgrade the operating system.

Mike Yin

Windows server 2012 and windows 7 direct access
I am looking for some decent documentation on how to get direct access in windows 2012 to work with windows 7
Can anyone point me the right direction?Hi, I got success through this
http://syscomlab.blog.com/2012/09/how-to-get-windows-7-to-work-with-directaccess-server-2012/ and this one
http://syscomlab.blog.com/2012/09/directaccess-for-windows-server-2012-guide/ but I'm using NLS in a dedicated server (what is fine for me) but the Win7 client doesn't connect to DA (EDGE server) through internet. I'm using a LAB where WS2012 host acts
as a GATEWAY (using NAT) and for Windows 8 client is working fine but when I try using win7 clients it just doesn't work :(
Server WS 2012 RTM full patched + Win8 Enterprise RTM full patched + Win7 Enterprise RTM ful patched (including the recommended KBs for DA solution)

James McIllecehello again,
meanwhile I was lucky to find this article about Idenity Mapping in TechNet in the Storage Team Blog:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2012/10/09/nfs-identity-mapping-in-windows-server-2012.aspx
Likely to be overseen at the end of one paragraph it says:
"Client for NFS does not support NFS V4.1 in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012"
Question : Is this an official statement and is it still valid with most recent
Windows Server 2012 R2 that NFS client does NOT support NFSv4.x ??

Need help installing sql server 2012 on windows server 2012 core
Hi Guys
I am having trouble installing sql server 2012 on windows server 2012 core. I am doing this on VM and my VM is not connected to internet.
This setup is part of preparing lab for sql serve exam 70-462. I would really appreciate your help.
I am including the links to the log files that were generated after installation. There are following 2 files
Component Update and
Detail_Global_Rules
ThanksHi
iworkonline,
Regarding to your original question, you can work around it according to Prashanth’s post or unclick the “Include SQL Server Product Updates" checkbox when installing SQL Server on your VM.
Regarding to your second question, I make a test using TechNet Virtual Lab and everything works as expected . Below are my steps.
1. Choose Web client after laughing the Lab.
2. Choose SQLONE machine and “OPEN CHARMS” as follows, then search SQL Server Management Studio, use it to connect to the default instance (which has been installed in the lab).
From your description, you get error message “Device not ready”. Could you please post more details? Are you installing SQL Server 2012 on the TechNet Virtual Lab?

Server 2008 R2 with WSUS need to specify location for Feature install for Server 2012 and Windows 8
Having a problem where we need to add .net 3.5, amongst other things, in server 2012 and windows 8.1. We're using WSUS on server 2008 R2, so when I go to add roles or features, I'm not able to as it tries to use Windows Update but it's set to use WSUS.
I'm aware in server 2012 gpo's that you enable the policy 'specify settings for optional component installation and component repair' in Administrative Templates>System, however that setting is not available in Server 2008 R2.
I've downloaded the templates from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36991 but the setting is still not there.
Any suggestions on how to do this/allow feature install with Server 2008 R2?Hi,
To upgrade the Administrative Templates, please run the downloaded msi file, then copy the needed admx files and adml files to the PolicyDefinitions folder.
For detailed information, please refer to the link below,

Dear All,
Is there a 32 Bit edition available for windows server 2012 and windows server 2008?

Quote:
All editions of Windows Server 2008 R2 are 64-bit only.
Reference link below(session Supported upgrade paths):

And based on MS official description about system requirement for Windows Server 2012/2012 R2, we may find out that they only has 64 bit OS.

My Server 2012 R2 Windows Phone App now available!
Hi, All,
Greetings! I am very pleased to announce that the My Server 2012 R2 Windows Phone App
has been published to
Windows Phone Store. This version is targeted to work with the new released Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials and the Windows Server Essentials Experience server role in Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard & Datacenter. To
try out the new version, search ‘My Server 2012 R2’ from your windows phone and install it. Let team know if you have any feedback on this app.
Thanks,
Windows Server Essentials TeamGreat option guys! Now I can REALLY centralize my media without reliance on third party products.
For Phone App, it's great to have it but it seems to be lacking in UX. i.e. there is no option to start slideshow or even go from one photo to next in the list. It's very inconvenient to go from one photo to next by backing out to the list and clicking on
next photo.
Another feature I would love to have is integration on Photo/Video/Music hub. That way I don't have to explicitly launch app to access my music/photo/videos.
Keep up good work and I hope to see much more functionality and tighter integration in future updates.

Hyper-V Host Server 2012 R2 x64 drive c:
All VMs, including SBS 2011 Standard x64 are on drive d:
I replaced my motherboard and defined a Marvell RAID 1 Mirror for my boot drive C:. My drive D: containing all of my Hyper V machines remained untouched since the new MB had Intel Matrix Controller with RAID 5, as did the old MB.
Since the C: drives are a few bytes smaller after configured as a RAID 1, I was unable to restore drive C from the image copy, so I rebuilt a new Hyper-V Host identical as possible using Server 2012 R2 x64. I had to redefine the Hyper-V machines on
the host, and the 1st time I brought it all (host and VMs) I had to reconfigure the NICs due to new MAC addresses, and verifying SBS 2011 DNS and DHCP for all physical and Hyper-V machines. Otherwise my Hyper-V SBS 2011 x(64) wasn't touched.
Now the SBS Exchange 2010 is not receiving mail. In the Exchange Management Console clicking on the Organization config gives me a highlighted error "You don't have sufficient permissions to view this data". The Server
Config is no longer on the EMC. The Recipient Config looks fine.
Outlook 2013 x64 connects to the Exchange Server, but no new mail appeared. There were just a few older messages that came in since the last time I opened Outlook. My public DNS on GoDaddy was not changed. I did not change sending mail
through my ISP Sonic.net. The SBS internal DNS doesn't have an MX record, but I'm not sure it ever did since my GoDaddy public DNS has an MX record.
I tried restoring to an earlier Image Copy, but that made no difference. I'm using the Windows Backup from SBS 2011 for my daily image copy backups.
- Michael FaklisHi Michael,
à
After more research and running the Best Practices report from the EMC, I am missing a slew of ManagementRolesAndRoleGroups from the RBAC container.
Based on your description, it seems that you have find the cause of this issue. On current situation, I still
suggest that you should run
SBS 2011 BPA and then check if can find some relevant errors. Just for a confirmation.
Meanwhile, please refer to following articles and check if can help you.

this perticular part is raising that error, and i had tried every configuartion on my local machine related to MS DTC.
When i remove my transaction code, its work just fine no exception raise, but when i use then i.e. BEGIN TRAN, COMMITE TRAN, AND ROLLBACK TRAN. its giving me error, other wise its fine.
Please Help or disscus or suggest why my transaction base code is not woking????
thanks in advance.
Regards,
MilanSorry again, I am new on any kind of forum, so i am learning now, following is the error massage generated by SQL Server. and its not
an architecture problem, i had just included my complete architecture to be more informative while asking for the solution or suggestion. My real problem is T-SQL, i think and its related to Distributed queries raise in SQL Server in Oracle Link Server.

DirectAccess on Server 2012 Essentials R2 Breaks Client Connectivity
I recently completed a Windows Server 2012 Essentials > R2 migration. All is well, clients all working and backing up etc.
I decided to follow the instructions at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204618.aspx for configuring Essentials to act as a DirectAccess server. After completing the guide, all of my on network clients report the server as offline in the connector software and will not process their
backups.
If I disable the DirectAccess Server GPO and do a gpupdate /force on the server, the clients connect again and backups work. I've reviewed the contents of the Server GPO and the only settings which it applies are Windows Firewall settings which I cannot
see would cause any conflict with client connectivity but clearly there is some.
Clients are running Windows 8.1 Pro at the moment as I haven't looked into the Enterprise client requirements just yet so the Client GPO is not the issue as the WMI filter on the Client GPO is blocking my current clients from applying it, it's definatly
a server-side issue.
Has anyone else had any issues with setting up DirectAccess causing local network issues like this?
Richard Green MCSE Windows Server 2003, MCTS Desktop VirtualizationThis was caused in the past by not excluding port 6602 from NetNatTranisition, in the original instructions it was excluded by having two ranges 6601-6601 6603-10000 (i think)
they then updated that doc to start at 10,000
So i would first check that you didnt have a typo in that command and mistakenly set it from 1000.

New WSUS on Server 2012 - problem with win8 clients
Hi,
Two weeks ago we created a new Server 2012 and installed the WSUS role from scratch on it. Its version number is: 6.2.9200.16384. It replaced a Server 2008 WSUS server. After some time all the win7 clients updated and reported as
they did on the old and replaced server.
However all our win8 clients refuse to update against this server. They show correctly up in WSUS server console each with 107 needed updates day after day. We have rebooted them and done numerous wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow and wuauclt
/detectnow /reportnow, but to no avail.
I paste in some lines from a win8 client winupdate log at the end of this message if someone can figure out what I have to do to get these clients update as they did against the old wsus server. Thanks for help on this issue.
regards Tor

2014-02-03 08:43:40:513 920 178c Service *************Today I opened Control Panel / Windows Updates and first did a check for new updates (from the WSUS server). Nothing was found and it reported Windows is Updated. Then I clicked the link Check for updates from Microsoft via internet, and
it found around 24 updates.
This is confirmation of the point that I made in the previous post. The updates are *NEEDED* by this system, but the updates were not *AVAILABLE* from the assigned WSUS Server. You were able to get them from Windows Update, but that does not fix your continuing
issue with the WSUS Server.
but it still reported the original 108 Needed updates.
Exactly. As previously noted, the client is functioning perfectly. The problem is NOT with the client; the problem is with the WSUS Server. The updates that this client needed were not AVAILABLE to be downloaded from the WSUS server.
Why this is the case requires further investigation on your part, but is either because the updates are not properly approved, or the update FILES are not yet downloaded from Microsoft to the WSUS server.
It appears that the wsus server doesn't get any information back from the client despite that it displays new Last contact and Last Status report timestamps.
This conclusion is incorrect. The WSUS Server got every bit of information available from the client -- you've confirmed this by the number of updates reported as "Needed" by the Windows Update Agent to the WSUS Server.
I assumed that the log would display if the updates were downloaded or not.
It will log when the updates are actually downloaded. If there's no log entries for updates being downloaded, then they're not being downloaded. If the logfile says "Found 0 updates", then that means exactly what it says: It couldn't find any approved/available
updates to download.
In your case it "Found 11 updates", but now it will be impossible to diagnose that fault, because you went and got them from Windows Update.
All Win8 versions are checked in the WSUS server's Product list so the updates should at least have been downloaded to the server.
This is why understanding the infrastructure is so critical. Your conclusion is invalid based on the premise given, and you may be using improper terminology which only confuses the rest of us as well.
First, selecting updates for synchronization only gets the update metadata (i.e. the detection logic) downloaded to the WSUS database.
The Second Step in this process is to Approve those updates for one or more WSUS Target Groups that contain the appropriate client systems. Following the approval of an update, the WSUS Server downloads the INSTALLATION FILE for that update.
Once the WUAgent sees an approved update and the installation file is available, then the WUAgent will download the file and schedule the update for installation.
Most of the post I read about my problem is about upgrading a 2008 WSUS server to support Win8 / Server 12 clients. When I try to run this update on my Server 12 WSUS it refuses to run (probably because it is for Server 2008).
Yeah.. totally different issue in those posts than what you're describing here.
What should I do to try to track down the problem?
Well.... now that it's 11 days since the logfile was posted, and you've already updated that system, we'll first need to find another system exhibiting the same issue.
Then I'll need to ask a number of questions to properly understand the environment, as well as what you have or have not done.
Then, from there, we can attempt to figure out why your Windows 8 client apparently sees some updates as approved/available but is still not downloading them. We do not yet have sufficient information to even speculate on a possible cause -- there are several.

I have two windows server 2012 Data Center and I configured (Virtual Desktop Interface)VDI on it's.
All my clients connected on both of servers by used Remote Desktop sessions ,5 months since.
Currently, when the clients is connected on the both of servers they received the following error:
"The remote session was disconnected because there are no remote desktop license servers available to provide license"
Kindly note, I installed windows Licenses Server Data Center on the both of servers.
Regards.Hi,
Please let us know if you have purchased RDS CALs and install it in your RD licensing server.
Also, on RD Session host servers, please make sure that you have specified the license mode and point them to the RD licensing server.
