Directed here to find a cooling performance diagnostic tool for my X205.

Hi,
I was looking for software to monitor and control the fans in my X205. I have an overheating problem when gaming. The vents are clear, and I have opened the case and cleaned it out. The vents are not blocked. This problem occurred recently. I assumed it was a problem with XP getting corrupted, so I re-installed XP Pro. This did not help. The fan itself works, as I ran it on 5 volts when I opened the case. No problems. It justy won't come on when the GPU gets hot (75 Celcius).
A notebook forum referrred me to this site, and said I should search for a utility called "Cooling Performance Diagnostic Tool", but I can't find anything.
Does anyone know where I can download this utility? I need to monitor and control these fans. I have re-installed the Toshiba system utilities and drivers from the Toshiba site, but the fan does not appear to be controlled.
Anyone got any opinions on this one?
Cheers,
Rob

As far as I know such tool does not exist.
Maybe someone told you to check settings in Toshiba power saver settings for option Cooling method.
Anyway, I presume you have US notebook model so I must redirect you again. ;)
Check Toshiba US support page under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modSel.jsp and pick up info about all available tools and utilities.
You can also visit forum there and discuss with people who have US notebook models.
On this page we discuss in most cases about European models and Europe support.

  • Liquid Cooling System diagnostic tools?

    QUESTIONS:
Are there any software diagnostics for the Quad G5 LCS?
Can I download and run them myself instead of packing up my desktop and bringing it in to a repair center?
What are normal temperatures for the CPU Core Diodes?
Is there a tool to monitor fan speeds, similar to the tools for monitoring temperature sensors?
SYMPTOMS: CPU fans run much louder than ever before, but still blow cool air out the back. Activity Monitor shows that very little CPU activity is occurring, yet the fans are running higher speeds. Temperature Monitor shows CPU Core Diode temperatures that are lower than the Graphics processor chip. There is a correlation between temp and speed, but the cooling system seem to be overcompensating. Upon rebooting, the fans start out very quiet, like they used to be all the time, then very slowly rise in speed and decibels. Running on Dual CPU (via CHUD) typically runs cooler than Quad CPU mode.
PREVIOUSLY: For three years, this was a very quiet computer. The fans were only audible when the CPUs were obviously tied up near 100%. The exhaust air felt warm, usually, even when the speed was low (now the exhaust seems cooler). EyeTV did recently cause the system to run at high CPU percentages for extended period, which understandably increased the fan noise, but I keep an eye on that now and quit EyeTV whenever it uses too much CPU.
    TESTS:
I have booted from the OSX install disc, and the fans are nearly silent in this mode.
I have run the hardware diagnostics that came with the computer, but they run the fans on full and don't seem to test the cooling system.
I have purchased a new main drive and reinstalled 10.4.11 from scratch, and the problem persists (although it does seem to have improved).
Dust was not excessive, but it was very fine, and I have blown some of it out.
In closing, I would like to use some sort of diagnostics to narrow this down, and hopefully determine whether the sensors, liquid coolant, main board controller, or software is bad. I might be able to purchase a replacement LCS, but that would be a waste if it is actually some other system which is failing. I realize that Apple does not typically offer internal diagnostic tools for outside use, but I am highly skilled in electronic design, firmware, and software.

I believe that I've finally solved this. In another topic on this forum, I asked which Apple Service Diagnostic was appropriate for the Quad, and discovered that it's ASD 2.6.3, which took a while to obtain. Strangely, the first Thermal Calibration run did not finish, even after waiting the 10 to 30 minutes that was predicted. I restarted the machine and tested all of the sensors and fans, plus a few systems which seemed related (but I did not take the time to run every test). After this, the Thermal Calibration ran to completion, but failed, claiming that the temperature exceeded the limit, and suggested that I reseat the processor. I actually decided to wait and do that later, and now that I've rebooted my machine it's drastically quieter without any further monkeying around inside.
The loudest fan was running between 2,820 RPM and 3,600 RPM, with another pairs of fans running between 2,350 RPM and 3,100 or 3,200 RPM ... all of them often getting stuck at their maximums sometimes, especially after heavy loads. Now, those fans are at 1,800 RPM to 2,350 RPM, and 1,600 RPM to 2,000 RPM, respectively. Obviously well below the bothersome range! I still have to see what happens when I really exercise the machine, but I can always run the Thermal Calibration again to see if it still fails, assuming I have any more problems, and go from there.
I'm actually quite happy that I did not have to take my machine in, with all the extra worries that entails. I've been a Premier Member of the Apple Developer Connection from time to time over the decades, and have purchased nearly all of my 9 Mac on Hardware Discount, which means I usually got these ASD discs in the mail for free. Unfortunately, I let my membership lapse before I purchased the Quad new after Apple had discontinued it, but while retailers still had stock. Things would have been so much easier if ASD 2.6.3 was already in my collection, but at least now I have it!

  • Are there any performance benchmark tools for Flash?

I am looking to benchmark Flash on various computers that I use.  I was surprised that the performance of Adobe Flash on my Intel i5 computer running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS and IE 10 was MUCH WORSE than running on a Windows 7 Pro 32-bit on an Intel i3 computer running the same browser.
I have tried running both 32-bit IE and 64-bit IE and get the same general bad performance on the 64-bit Windows OS. I would like to find a tool to benchmark these various computers so that I can establish baseline performance while I explore finding a fix Adobe Flash on a 64-bit OS.
Can someone suggest some tools for Flash performance benchmarking? Thank you.

The best advise we can really give you is that both companies offer free trials and you should download them both and see which works best for you.  I own Parallels Desktop v6, and VMWare Fusion v3.  For me, VMWare s better for some things, but Parallels is better for most.  Depending on what you do and how you use your applications your milage may vary.
One other note to keep in mind.  Since Apple is looking to release a new OS version in the very near future, you might want to hold-off a bit on our vitualization choice just yet.  I would exect that both companies will be working on a new release for support/compatibilty of the new MacOS, so you might want to wait to see if there are any other changes that make you want to lean towards one or the other...

  • CrystalReportsTier error in Diagnostic Tool for BO XI 3.0 Edge

We recently installed XI 3.0 Edge. We are having a problem with not being able to create parameters for Crystal reports any longer in Business View Manager (we create and save them, but when we come back in and try to view them, BVM crashes). When I run the Diagnostic Tool, in the Crystal Reports Tier section, I get a message that says "Failed to add tables to test report from XML source.", and it fails the test. I am not sure if the two are related.
Has anyone run into a similar problem in the Crystal environment ?

We discovered that, although we couldn't "Save As" Crystal reports with dynamic parameters, the push method, we could pull the reports up to the documents folder by using the Central Management Console (CMC). Under the Manage menu, there is an Add menu item that allows Crystal reports to be pulled up. When we did this, suddenly hidden parameter components would appear in the Business View Manager screen - they must have been created by the failed attempts to push the reports up, though they were invisible until the pull was done. After deleting all duplicated components, and re-promoting, we could get the reports to function in InfoView.
So I don't know what was causing the diagnostics to flare up, and although it is apparent Edge 3.0 has some issues, there was a way to finally get the reports loaded along with their dynamic parameters.

  • Performance test tool for BPS?

    Dear BPS Gurus,
I want to test BPS performance with about 25-50 users using the application at
same time. This is important before we go-live.
Could you please share your experience for similar situation. Can SAP Loadrunner be used for mimic-ing multiple users same time on BPS.
I also could not find any SAP benchmark for BPS. Could you please suggest some place for checking the same.
    Thanks in advance,
    regards,
    Vithal

You can use Mercury's Loadrunner for this purpose.

  • Toshiba Diagnostic Tools for testing new machines

I ordered a Toshiba Satellite T135-S1312*. From Microsoft Store.  Since I have 14 days, I want to do run some extensive testing on the hardware and software just to make sure that everything is fine and that nothing is defective. I can do a lot of manual work, but instead, I'm sure there's some diagnostic and automated tools to help speed this up with precision. I'm wondering if you can supply any from microsoft or....if you can point the ones from somewhere else such as the manufacturer so that I can have it do extensive tests on battery life processor speed memory video card performance simulating disc burns all the ports on the laptop and so forth. please let me know as soon as possible. thanks

  • What is the best diagnostic tool for Mac 10.7

Having lots of weird problems....such as mail opens when I start an app,, have to reboot to open Mac, windows show on screen with desktop, etc.  Have verified disc & repaired permissions. Shows all is ok... Installed Norton for Mac, no viruses.
What is the best diagnostic program that can find what is going on?

Norton Antivirus (made by Symantec) has a very long and illustrious reputation for mangling Mac OS X systems, sometimes to the point where a complete reinstall is necessary. Among other things, it installs kernel extensions which are known to cause kernel panics and system freezes; it contains known and documented bugs which can silently corrupt Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign files, destroy a user's ability to authenticate as an administrator, and (on PPC systems) can cause Classic to stop functioning; and Symantec has on at least two occasions now released flawed .dat file updates which erroneously report certain critical Mac OS X files as "viruses." (Deleting these "viruses" causes damage to the system that in some cases renders it unbootable.)

  • Performance testing tools for Web shop

We have a requirement to perform some stress and volume testing for a web shop (using multi-user simulation).
I know LoadRunner is probably the best way to do that but is expensive and probably not justified for just one 4 month implementation project.
Has anybody performed such testing using other cheaper options ?
    Thanks
    Manoj

    Hi Manoj,
    Could you share the solution?
As know there is as BSP code /(HTMLB) where we
can show BSP response time. But this may not appropriate
    tools to perform stress test.
    Thanks,
    Gun.

  • Performance monitoring tool for Essbase

Currently we are using Zabbix to monitor the resource usage of Essbase database (CPU, memory, disk IO, etc).
We would like to know is there are any other web based monitoring tools that can monitor down to process level. The existing Windows performance monitor is relatively complex and also lack of web based interface for administrator to monitor the processes easily.
We are also looking at Quest Spotlight for Windows but not yet fully explored its capability. We would like to know if there are other choices used by other Essbase administrators.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Diagnostic tools for MacBook Pro?

    Hello!
I recently bought a refurbished 3rd party MacBook Pro. I am a little skeptical about buying it be because it was refurbished. Is there any type of software that can go through a process of diagnosing the internal parts to make sure that they are tip-top shape? I tried to load Apple's software, but it states that my computer is not supported. Any help?
    MacBook Pro 15-inch mid-2010
    Thanks!

Your place that sold you the Mac should have included the pre bundled installer discs.  Call AppleCare for a replacement set if they didn't.  It is only a nominal fee.  Included is the hardware test that boots with the 'D' key and the ability to erase and install the original operating system at the time which was some version of 10.6, which also supported pre-2006 PowerPC applications such as Appleworks.    If you have no need of such Apps, sticking with 10.9.4 is fine.
Some things that may slow you down:

Do not attempt to install any optimization tools.  They will likely slow you down.

  • Java - Weblogic performance monitoring tool

    Hi there,
I would like to use a performance monitoring tool for the JVM 1.2.2.x running on weblogic5.1,
I understand this is quite old version of JVM and already EOL. However We are having performance issue needs to be addressed ASAP.
Please advice, many thanks in advance.

Free performance monitoring tool? You can try WebLogic Scripting Tool, you
    can download from
    https://codesamples.projects.dev2dev.bea.com/servlets/Scarab?id=S13
You can write your own JMX code to get some runtime status from WebLogic as
    you want.

Is there some free equivalent out there?
Or maybe someone has cooked up some JMX script ?
