Directly importing 16x9 flv files results in 4x3 flv, poor quality

I am creating my own flv files so as to import them directly into Presenter, but when I try to import widescreen (16x9) files it
stuffs the video into a 4x3 frame. Anyone know why this is? Thanks!

My experience is limited to importing Flash SWF into Presenter, but I've noticed the same behavior. It looks as if Presenter automatically pads the Flash to give it the same aspect ratio as the PPT presentation I'm importing the Flash into.
I found that if I changed the aspect ratio of my PPT presentation to fit the aspect ratio of my Flash, and then imported the Flash SWF, Presenter kept the original aspect ratio of my Flash. For example, my Flash had a 3:2 aspect ratio. I changed my PPT to 7.5 inches by 11.37 inches. When I imported my Flash, its aspect ratio stayed at 3:2.
So if you want to retain the 16x9 aspect ratio of your FLV files, try changing the dimensions of your PPT presentation to 7.5 inches by 13.33 inches, and then import your FLV.
I can't imagine why this would happen, I would be interested in an explanation for this behavior.

Does Final Cut 7 support direct importing of MTS files from an HD Camera

I have Final Cut Express 4.0.1 and have been importing MTS files from my Camera's Hard Drive to my Mac through the Log and Transfer feature. However, during the upload it converts the files to .MOV. The resulting .MOV files are much larger than the original MTS files. I am interested in learning if the latest Final Cut Studio with Final Cut Pro 7 allows for a direct import of MTS files as well as editing this native format without the need to convert to a .MOV?
Also, I have many MTS files that are now MT2S originally imported onto my old PC that are now stored on Data Discs. Is there any way possible to bring those MT2S files onto my Mac and edit in their native format or will I need to convert them through some third party software to have them editable on by Final Cut Pro?

You can, if you want to jump through some hoops, edit your native AVCHD footage in Final Cut (there is no direct import option but you can capture it into Toast, export that as an .mp4 and bring that into Final Cut Pro.) That being said, it is a very bad idea plus its clunky and slow.
Long story short: Use Log and Transfer and get a big hard drive.

Play another flv file in between a flv file

Hi,
I am trying to find a way to play another flv file in between
a flv file. Say, I play flv A for 10 seconds then play flv B and
then resume back to flv A where it just stopped.
Is it possible to do this and roughly how to do it?

How to Directly import/configure .pcf Files in Mavericks?

Hi guyz,
I am sure this question has been asked several times but I am askng out od frustration and am desperate. Is the ANY way.... ANY WAY where I can avoid manually configuring the Cisco VPN using the Built-in Client. I am especially sick of repeatedly decoding the enc_GroupPwd in hte pcf files. I work on a support project and I need to like configure more than 3 VPNs per day to access the various sites for my work and it is really annoying to manually configure everything everytime. Any suggestions to make my life easier? Thanks for any help provided.. I am on Mavericks, in case anyone needs it.....

Aha! You are absolutely right. I remember seeing the files as a different format. I believe they were actually saved (converted) to mpeg4 format, if I recall correctly. I thought that was strange, and wondered why that had happened. So, I guess I'll delete all the iTune files from my hard drive; there were quite a few. And, I'll copy and paste the AIFF files directly into a folder on my hard drive via Finder. Ultimately, your way is how I got one of the audio files into FCE (when I finally got one to work). I just couldn't understand why all the files I'd imported into iTunes wouldn't work with FCE (given that all Mac products are supposed to be compatible). In any case, you've enlightened me. Thank you!

Imported slide shows in Final Cut Express are poor quality

I just bought Final Cut Express (so it's the latest). I know this problem isn't unique to Final Cut, but when I import a slide show created in iPhoto or Fotomagico into Final Cut (or into iMovie HD, for that matter), the quality is poor. What I am trying to do is to create a movie that integrates a slide show with video, and output it to a DVD. The slide show uses "Ken Burns Effect."
I have tried outputting the finished slide show in various formats (m4v, dv) to try to improve quality, to no avail. This is even before the movie is outputted to a DVD- it's just viewing the rendered product on-screen. I'm guessing that the output from the slide show apps is compressed, then recompressed when rendered in Final Cut.
For a small upgrade price, Fotomagico has an HD output option. Would that improve things or is that the wrong tack to take? How do professionals do this sort of thing? How might I do it?

Slides never look as good on TV because you are drastically reducing the original size of probably 1920x1200 to around 720x576 which ruins the quality.
Furthermore, the fine detail is likely to jitter and shimmer due to interlacing artifacts.
You can reduce the jitter with the De-interlace filter but it will do nothing for the sharpness.
The only way you can get high quality is to produce your video in high definition and play it back on an HDTV.
Having said that, I routinely apply the de-interlace filter to all my slides and when played back on my HDTV the standard definition looks remarkably good. (But they look much worse on a CRT TV.)

As of Adobe Premiere Pro 7.1, you cannot import FLV files directly into Adobe Premiere Pro. While working with FLV footage, use Adobe Media Encoder to import the FLV files and transcode the FLV files into a supported file type. For example, use the H.264 format.
After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder still support the import of FLV files.
FLV file export is still available within Adobe Premiere Pro.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system it is running?
In the absence of that information, the following is a generalized no can do answer.
Although files with flv file extensions can be exported from Premiere Elements, you cannot import flv files into Premiere Elements.
There used to be a time when earlier versions could use a Moyea plug-in to force Premiere Elements to accept flv files.

Hello,
I have an flv file and the same flv file in an swf file. Both
files are the same size. So, it seems that it doesn't matter,
whether you import an flv file or an swf file, to keep your file
size small. Is this correct ?

That's just a coincidence.
There is different baggage / overheads with FLV vs SWF. So
you will usually
get some differences .. sometimes SWF smaller, other times
FLV. However,
the actual video payload is the same in both, and the audio
is similar too,
and they are the bulk of the file size. So there shouldn't be
a huge
difference in file size between SWF an FLV.

Poor quality RAW file when captured on Nikon D80 and imported

Anyone,
I shoot a Nikon D80 and when I import the RAW files, mostly when shot in RAW+JPG(fine, normal, basic) format, the RAW file turns out in very poor quality, usually alot of Noise in pic. It never use to do that before, is it just because it is coupled with +JPG files? Help would be greatly appreciated.

I am also using a D80, and just recently switched from jpeg fine to RAW thinking it would give me some more flexibility in the post processing ... but I too have found that the images are very grainy...I'm a novice at some of the cutting edge digital editing technology... hence the use of Iphoto... but I'm disappointed that it seems my image quality has suffered.

FLV import Problem / .264 files slow

Hey,
for my work I have to use hours of .flv files daily. These are VODs from Twitch which I have to edit. Being stream related content these files often get "corrupted" because of internet connection/Twitch problems. In the .flv files this is not really a problem - most of the time you see a brief stutter but everything else is fine. Now I obviously can not import .flv files into Premiere Pro CC so I used FLV Extract to export a .aac and .264 file from the FLV container. These files import just fine into Premiere Pro but the main problem here is that when working with a .264 file the previews render VERY slow and often red frames appear. Also when exporting a file it takes MUCH time and barely uses my CPU at all (tested with other files and formats and they worked just fine).
It is also interesting to note that the .aac and .264 files have different lengths and thus get out of sync. How much depends on the source .flv file (most likely how much it got corrupted due to various reasons?)

Now my first question would be: why has Premiere Pro such difficulties when working with these .264 files? Do I lack any codecs? Are some settings in Premiere Pro wrong? Is there any workaround or solution? As long as Premiere Pro works fine with these files I wouldn't mind them being out of sync since I can fix that manually.
I also tried using FFMPEG to change the container from .flv to .mp4 which worked and resulted in me being able to import the files into Premiere Pro but even though the video and audio track had the same length this time - they were still out of sync and much more difficult to re-sync them if at all possible so this didn't help much. I also tried video converter programs to convert to other file formats but the out of sync problem still carried over.
So as an alternative question: is there any way to convert the original .flv files properly so I am able to import and work with them? Meaning they are still in sync and keep the original quality.
The solutions should be as efficient as possible (quick) since I have to go through hours of content every day.

I have a single internal drive formatted "Mac OS Extended (journaled)". It is a 160GB drive with 20GB free.
I have two maxtor FW 400 160GB drives. Each with about 80GB free. One plugged into the back of the computer, one into the front. Not daisy chained.
I have a P2 Store which connects via USB 2, and the HVX which I connect to the FW 800 port on the back of the computer.
Like I said, I've tried every conceivable combination of these devices. I've imported directly from the camera via FW to the internal drive using FCP. I've gone from the camera directly to both of the FW drives using FCP. I've also transferred from the camera, to the internal drive, then imported using FCP from the internal to the FW drive set as my scratch disc. And so forth.
But no matter what the permutation, I get the same result. And again, it doesn't seem to be an issue of moving these blocks of data around. That seems to happen just fine as far as I can tell. If I start the import, then watch the clips being created in the capture folder, they agregate just fine. It's only once they've reached their full data size (in ref'c to the original mxf files) that the import process hangs. The larger the clips, the longer the hangs (though fewer in number, obviously).
I deleted the FCP preferences and repaired permissions on my internal HDD with no alteration of the problem.
The only other observation I've had, is that when the hangups happen, and the little ball starts spinning, I also hear a high pitched whining from inside the computer case. It does not sound like usual HDD work.

Import FLV Files--Perian

I keep receiving errors when I try to import flv files into iTunes. Is there any possible way to actually import these.
If no...I am curious as to how I imported one...just one!?!?! I downloaded using TubeTV. I don't know if this makes a difference, but when I downloaded a few from Safari, they would not import.

Some web browsers do different things with the same download operations behind the scenes. For example, downloading .bin images (from microsoft.com/mac, for example) with OmniWeb results in .bin images being saved to the default download folder, while using Safari results in .dmg files directly useable by OS X. Perhaps the TubeTV application you mention does some similar work to change the format of Flash Video files without doing any actual video recompression.
My wildest/best guess at this point is that perhaps, since Flash Video is indeed capable of using QuickTime-compatible H.264 video and AAC audio, certain files may be inherently playable by QuickTime and other QuickTime-based applications, regardless of the presense of the .flv file extension. If this were true, it would at least partially explain why certain (but not all) Flash Video files would open with iTunes. Again, this is just wild guess, and I personally just use VLC to play these files.

How to see an imported FLV file on the timeline

I have a feeling this is a really basic question, but I am pretty new to Flash. I've imported an FLV file. This file is a slideshow of photographs with a Ken Burns effect already applied. I was hoping that I would be able to see the video frames on a timeline. What I then want to be able to do is jump to different frames (approximately where the photo changes) as a result of clicking buttons.
I thought this would be a good project to do in Flash as a way to learning.

If you imported it, embedded it as an MC, you should be able to scrub the timeline and see the video change - assuming your timline is the length of the video. Double check the frame rate of your video and the frame rate on your timeline for an accurate match.
Try importing to a fresh flash file too, to make sure nothing in your other flash file is hindering your progress.

Why cant I import M4V or FLV files into my I-Movie video? Please HELP!

I just got the new Mac Desktop and REALLY hate that I cant drap and drop videos into the newer (i-Life11) -Imovie like I was used to since 2010. Seems to only work for photos. Is there a way around that?
So I am making a church youth group video where I have spent HOURS trying to get parts of Youtube videos into the video to show them. I have 2 forms saved on my desktop thanks to the software - i have a FLV video and a M4V - both converted. The Imovie already has plenty of clips that are M4V in them so I know it will take that form. It just wont let me import them..they are there but are not accesible (they are 'faded') under the File/Import/Movies/Desktop or File/Movies/RealPlayerDownloads. They aren't darkened and and I cant do anything with them.
What am I doing wrong?
