  • How can I connect a PC with iTunes to an ipod and make iTunes play podcasts directly from the ipod without synching with iTunes on the PC ?

I predominently use my ipod to listen to my favourite podcasts. I download podcasts onto my Home PC using iTunes and then synch the podcasts onto my ipod again using iTunes. This all works fine.
Occassionally I want to connect my ipod to my Work PC via iTunes and listen to the podcasts by playing them through my Work PC external speakers. I DO NOT want iTunes to synch with my ipod, I just want to access the podcasts on the ipod and play them directly using the iTunes on my Work PC. I used to be able to do this, but have recently had a new replacement PC provided and now when I attach my ipod to the new PC iTunes wants to synchronize, and I can't see the podcasts which I know are on the ipod.
I'm sure that this is an easy one for you experts out there. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Arnold

Just to be clear - I have a new Work PC. My Home PC and ipod synching is all still working fine - it's just connecting the ipod to my new Work PC - and not being able to see and play the podcasts from the ipod - which is the problem that I am trying to overcome. Thx.

  • ITunes 11.1 and / or the Podcast app on iOS 7 will not allow me to create play lists in iTunes. Is there an app that will allow me to create podcast plays lists and play them on the iPhone running iOS7 ?

iOS 7 will not alow podcasts lists in the music app so we have to use the podcast app
but iTunes 11.1 and / or the Podcast app on iOS 7 will not show podcast play lists created in iTunes (well maybe it does but clicking on the podcasts app causes iTunes to freeze so can not select)
sometime some folders created in iTunes have appeared with the Podcast app but others not.
creating an on the go list in my iphone is agony - I have over 100 podcasts I have subscribed to and when creating a list you can not view by most recently downloadded podcast
AND you can't search (no search bar) so I have to scroll through to find a podcast that might have been updated - but they are not in any logocal order that I can work out (not alphbetical or date added).
Video podcasts are mixed with audio
podcasts I delete (unsubscribe to) keep coming back
    its a disaster
my question is there an alternative iPhone app that works with iTunes
no I don't want an app where I have to download to the phone directly, thats 100 subscriptions I will have to make agaian

Agree about the disaster part. I haven't found a fix within iTunes.
I gave up and switched to downcast 2 days ago. Even though it was a hassle to re-subscribe to all my podcasts, im so much happier.
To make switching easier, I found that in iTunes you can "get info" on the podcast and copy the RSS address to the clipboard. Put all of these in a message note. When iCloud syncs the note to your phone, you can copy and paste the urls into downcast one at a time to subscribe.
Downcast has crashed on me occassionally when I'm subscribing to feeds, but so far it has recovered gracefully each time and no data was lost.

  • HELP! I can no longer see the Podcast icon on my iPod touch.

The Podcast icon disappeared from the screen of my iPod touch.  I reset the iPod and podcasts still do not appear.

  • Changing the name of the podcast

    Hello
Our podcast has been recently approved for itunes, which makes us very happy
however, we have noticed that the name of the podcast had an error.
Instead of "JustQualityMusic Podcast" we have "JustQuality Music Podcast"
We have already updated the xml file and did the ping.
Will the information automatically change after we do another ping or do we need to contact itunes support?

It should change once iTunes gets round to reading the xml file - this might take a day or two - or possibly when you add an episode. It's showing correctly already for subscribers (who of course go directly to the feed).

  • Why is the Podcasts App so buggy???

I listen to podcasts almost everyday and have been using this app ever since it was first released.
It's basically a dog's breakfast. The main problems are (1) bugs, and (2) lack of functionality.
    Bugs:
    1. The app will start automatically anytime an alarm goes of: someone calls you, after you hang up the last podcast you were listening to starts playing. Same thing with alarms, and even just testing ring tones. ***?
    2. It frequently won't download podcasts. It is very temperamental: it will allow some podcasts to download, others not.
    3. It crashes randomly in the middle of podcasts. This is what motivated me to write this review today. actually this and the fact that problem 2 took me about 2 days and 5 attempts to download the podcast that then crashed. Was this software written by children?
    Lack of basic functionality:
    1. No playlists or anyway to star or prioritize podcasts you want to listen to.
    2. It is basically impossible to browse the titles of individual podcasts because the names are longer than the screen space.
Points 1 + 2 together are a real pain if you, like me, have a collection of one set of podcasts that is over 500 episodes you want to read over and choose from... You can't read the titles and if you take the time to read and select your favorites you can't save them.
Seriously, this app should be up there with Apple disasters like Apple Maps.

I just replaced my prior iPhone 3G by a brand new iPhone 5 and installed this new Podcast app, as podcast content dif not appear in "music" any more.
Although I enjoy having direct sync of podcasts on the iPhone over Wifi (instead of having to plug it to my iTunes), I am not fully satisfied as well:
    - for some podcasts, it seems to be working fine, event though some episodes appear much later on my iPhone as on iTunes
    - for some others, it used to work fine at the start, but I do not get any of the most recent episodes anymore (they do not appear at all)
    - for some others, downloading seems to always fail but streaming is OK
    - for some others, I can see the episodes but cannot donwload nor stream them on my iPhone.
In the meantime, all these podcasts perfectly work on a standard iTunes (on a Mac or a PC).
I tried to unscribe an subscribe again but it didi not fix anything. Perhaps shall I try to uninstall and reinstall the application.
The erratic sync feature is definitly the most critical issue to fix by Apple.
Not supporting long labels & playlists is more a kind of "nice to have", although I agree these would be very useful.
Concern iMap, I did not have any major concern up to now with it (I do not use it so often, but it worked well at each occasion).

  • Can't get the podcast to update

Hi all—I submitted the podcast feed://vigilantemind.podbean.com/feed/ and ran a first test podcast, and it came out okay. Then I added graphics, filled in all the iTunes codes, and published some actual podcasts, but iTunes won't update... it just has the podcast as it looked when I first submitted the podcast. Did I do something wrong?

Your feed is fine. It normally takes 1-2 days for the Store page to update, and sometimes it can take several days, so it's just a question of waiting. Subscribers can already see your updated episode (since they are working directly from your feed and the Store is no longer involved).

  • Is there a fee for the podcast service?

Is there a fee for the podcast service?

If you're here asking about the Mac OS X Server Podcast Producer, that's part of Mac OS X Server, and Mac OS X Server is a feature-upgrade to, and does cost more than, the more familiar Mac OS X (client) software package.  You'll also need sufficient network bandwidth for whatever you're planning here, particularly if you're going to be distributing this podcast material directly from your Mac OS X Server box.
If you're here asking about creating podcasts using Garageband or other tools, then yes, there can be fees associated with those products.  Garageband is part of the iLife tools, and a version of that is installed with new Mac systems, though upgrades do cost money.  (And get yourself a good external cartioid condensor or equivalent microphone; the audio quality from the built-in mikes is very poor.)
If you're here asking about the podcast downloads using iTunes and accessing the Apple servers for the podcasts you can download - and specifically about publishing the podcasts - then I believe those are free (at least for non-commercial podcasts), but you'll want to check the iTunes Making a Podcast document for details
If I've not guessed at your particular goal(s) here (your question is unfortunately somewhat ambiguous), please consider providing a little more background on what you're up to and what problem(s) you're solving.

  • I don't speak German, why is the Podcast page in Deutsch????

I am using ITunes 7.0.1. When selecting Podcasts in iTunes, I am sent directly to a German language page and can see no way to switch to English.
    Thanks for any help!!
    Chris

    Christina M.,
Since you don't have an account to sign in to, clicking on the iTunes Store link in the left hand column should show you a general iTunes Store start page.
Towards the bottom of the screen there will be a Pull down menu that probably says, "Deutchsland". Should be labeled, "Mein Store", if in the Germany store. A few others stores with Germanic languages may look like German, but have the pull down labeled differently. Click on that pull down ad choose "United States".
This pull down is the very bottom option on all of the iTunes Store Home pages within iTunes.
You should then be able to access the Podcast directory in English, or create an account for the U.S. store.
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Not included in the podcast direcotry - why?

    Hi there,
I submitted my first podcast to iTunes but it wasn't accepted.
I checked all my settings (using podpress in wordpress) and tried to re-submit it but itunes says it's already been submitted.
    am i blocked forever?
what was wrong with my podcast?
    http://www.iller.cc/?feed=podcast
i validated the podcast with the advanced menu/add podcast and used a feed validator. there is no unauthorized copyrighted material, erotica, illegal solicitation or hate speech in the podcast. really don't understand.
    thanks for your help.

i changed my blog name, podcast article title and the podcast title but it still says it's already been submitted.. maybe the direct link is the key.
That's odd, because changing the name ought to make it look like a new podcast. If there was a problem over the URL I would have expected it to complain that there wasn't a valid feed. You could try Support, though I'm not sure how much help they are likely to be: go to
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'.
i'm not sure how to get the direct link to the feed. any ideas how i can find it?
I can't advise on WordPress or how it places the feed; probably they have Help or a forum where you could ask.

  • Getting podcasts to show up under the podcast menu

    Hello!
I've just discovered podcasts--yay! I have a 30 GB iPod video, if this helps. Also, sorry if this is something that's been asked many times before but I went a few pages back and didn't find anything similar.
Anyway... I've subscribed to a few podcasts and I'm wondering if there's a way to put them under the podcast menu like it shows up in the tutorials. I know that they've transferred to the iPod because I can bring up the podcasts and listen to them using the search but the podcast menu remains blank. Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Leigh-Anne

FOr me this problem only happens when I directly download podcast episodes instead of using iTunes to download. Somehow when downloading with iTunes the files are "marked" differently to allow them to go to podcast menu.

  • Why is the podcast section slow?

I know this is probably not a new thread, but I'm getting sick and tired of continued releases of iTunes 11 being released for Windows and nothing being done to actually fix the Podcast section of the program. Whether it's related to the podcast art or not, I'm not sure, but regardless, loading the section and each subsequent click takes between 3 and 10 seconds each time. Add to that the lack of alphabetised listing, fewer settings for podcasts in general, and I wish I didn't have to be so reliant upon iTunes for my podcasting needs.
Come on Apple, please provide a fix soon?

Podcasts are not "stored" in the iTunes Store, so - and I'm guessing here...
when a song is purchased in the iTunes Store, that download comes from the store itself and it's reasonable to assume that the list of songs is held by Apple in the store. The store will have an up-to-date list of the songs available, ready to give you at any time.
but since Podcasts are downloaded directly to your iTunes Library from the Podcast producer's host site (and not from the store), it's reasonable to assume that the iTunes Store obtains a list of the Podcast episodes only when you ask for it. That's how it's kept up-to-date. So the store has to "look outside" the store (to another computer, located who-knows-where) at the time you ask for the list of contents. That takes time, albeit a very short time.
So this almost certainly why it takes iTunes a while to display the list of Podcasts when you are searching in-store.
As for the artwork for Podcasts; again, this is the responsiblity of the Podcaster, not the iTunes Store. Artwork for commercially produced music albums is an established and accepted fact. The musicians and companies that produce the music are well versed in it. But Podcasts are completely controlled by the originator of the Podcast and are simply listed by the Store. Podcasts are often produced by individuals, or simply by people who either don't see the need for artwork, or don't have the resources to work out how to put the artwork on to their episodes. It's not that easy, believe it or not.
Apple/the iTunes Store does not "trade" the Podcasts (it doesn't "sell" them), and the store has almost no control over them.
Look on the bright side: Apple (The iTunes Store) provides you with a list of Podcasts and gives you a facility to download them into your iTunes Library and onto your iPod etc, for absolutely no cost to you. iTunes, the programme also does a fair bit of work to manage Podcasts, such as:
    marking them as Skip when shuffling so thay don't play while listening to music in shuffle mode (a podcast is simply another audio file, just like your music Library);
    organising them in your iTunes Library (well, in the List view, they are orgainsed. No idea what Apple had in mind with the other views!);
    marks a Podcast episode as Remember playback position - incredibly useful for long speech Podcasts;
has a visual indicator to remind you when you have part-listened to a Podcast episode or fully heard it. This feature is also available on some iPods.
And before anyone says it, no, I do not think iTunes is perfect, particularly in Podcasts.
Downloaded episodes and other available (but not yet downloaded) episodes are now indistinguishable from one another. Mad!
Total unplayed episodes count now includes episodes that are not downloaded into my Library. Utter madness!
My Stations. I just don't get it!
The Podcasts App for iDevices. Well, I think my thoughts on that are best left unsaid. (The last time I looked, it still wasn't possible to create a Playlist of Podcast episodes.)

  • K, this is a foreign language to me. I am attempting to get past the podcast page with server, name and password. a little beginners assistance, please?

I am extremely new to the podcast. It is learning a new langauge for me and want the brillance of anyone who understands this language already. I am stuck at the page for account setup and when I research this online, i have yet to find a direct answer in plain english. I know there is a brillant person out there which can assist with the lost in translation conponent for this issue. thanks,

You have to host your podcast on web server before you can submit the feed to the iTunes Store. You would have to get the setup for this from the people who are running the server, and use it in your FTP application. You would need the username and password (which sometimes for FTP isn't the same as your account password) and sometimes you will need a 'path' to tell the program where to place the files.
