Director 11 in Adobe News?

Why was Director 11 not mentioned in the News section of
Adobe's home
page?

If ever there was a time, this might be the time for Adobe to
break their
own policy and give advance detailed information on the
development plans of
future versions of Director (the already announced 12 &
13).

• Directories in Adobe

We were wondering if there is any way we can create separate directories in Adobe to store groups of forms. Right now, all our forms are listed in the main directory and it is getting confusing to find a particular form. Please let us know - thanks.

I just answered a similar request minutes ago;-) It is a popular request and one we'd like to deliver. We do have a feature request and voting page, folders is high up in the list, you should add your vote here: http://forums.adobe.com/ideas/1587 We do use that to help prioritize new features.
Thanks,

• BEWARE OF ADOBES NEW COPY PROTECTION SOFTWARE IT CAN SERIOUSLY HARM YOUR COMPUTER

Beware of Adobes new copy protection software it can seriously harm your computer!
The FlexNet licensing software that is installed on your computer along with CS3 and CS4, and possibly other, products has the capacity to seriously harm your system. It seems that it relies on some sort of insidious rootkit technology, which hides files on your hard drive. The trouble is that it is not robust and, if it gets broken, has the capacity to render your computer unusable by any product that uses this technology unless and until the hard drive is completely reformatted and everything properly reinstalled. Given that we all pay good money to prevent this doomsday scenario occurring in our computers, this should be unacceptable.
In particular, anyone who thinks that they can rely on disk imaging technology as a means of backing up or migrating system drives containing installations of Adobe CS3/4 should think again. Adobes new software and activation technology does not support disk cloning, and the result of using it is likely to render your computer permanently unusable, at least by Adobe products.
I know this because it has happened to me. My computer completely freezes suddenly anytime during or after running CS3. After spending some time investigating the problem, Adobe came up with the following astonishing response:
]"We have gone through all the material and logs once again, and came to the conclusion, the problem was in fact caused by cloning your hard drive. What happened is, that the FlexNet service, the service responsible for the activation and licensing of the product, has been damaged. Cloning our products is not supported by our products, and was therefore not tested either. The problem is, there are leftovers of the last Photoshop. installation's FlexNet files present in your system. To make matters worse, these files are well hidden, to protect our programs from piracy. Therefore, they can't be removed. Since a deactivation and reinstallation were already done to no avail, the only thing that's left to do, is a complete reformatting of your harddrive. We are very sorry to have to tell you this, but it really is the only option left.
Kind regards,
Adobe Technical Support"
Needless to say I am hopping mad! The implication that the problem is somehow my fault for daring to clone my hard drives is absurd! Disk imaging is a perfectly legitimate way of backing up and restoring or migrating hard drives and what they seem to be saying is that disk imaging as a backup & restore solution does not work with Adobe and Macromedia products. If this is so, a warning to this effect should be writ large on all of them.
To top it all, Adobes abdication of responsibility shows a blatant disregard for their paying customers. They have rolled out a technology that, by their own admission, has not been fully tested and which has the potential to inflict irrevocable harm on their customers computer systems as a result. (Even Microsoft would not dare to try to get away with such a thing!) They have done this to protect their software from piracy and thus to protect their revenue stream. Fine, but they should do this at their own expense, not at the expense of their loyal paying customers, and, when things do go wrong, they should be willing and able to provide a fix. If Adobe lose these paying customers, the piracy issue becomes irrelevant! (If you ask me, a far more elegant solution to the piracy problem would be to lower the price of the software, which is absurdly over-priced, certainly here in the UK.)
As a loyal customer and user of Photoshop virtually from day one, I do expect better than this. For the first time since I took up digital photography, I am looking for a different photo editing solution. I certainly do not think that any more of my hard earned cash will be heading in Adobes direction, at least until this is sorted out.

It is possible that cloning will work for some, maybe, for example, if done between identical disks. Adobe are saying that they do not guarantee that it will; and sometimes it won't.
However that is beside the point. Microsoft, bless their socks, have gone to great lengths to produce an operating system, which, for all its faults, is robust. If something gets broken, it will, 9 times out of 10 repair itself, and what remains is always fixable, once the problem is identified. It is amazing just how much abuse XP can take and still function.
Now Adobe has come along and done something that negates all of that. They have introduced a technology, that, once broken, cannot be fixed. That goes against the principles that everyone else has been working towards.
At the moment, few people may be affected (maybe more than Adobe care to admit to, and perhaps some who do not yet know that they are) but software users need to be wary of the thin end of the wedge. If all software vendors did similar things and played fast and loose with the basic fabric of the operating and file systems, all computers would soon be reduced to piles of junk.
That is why it is wrong.
Until Microsoft themselves support 3rd party product licensing and activation within the operating system, Adobe should hold off on this.

• Cant´t find Adobe Director in Adobe Creative Cloud

I have an account for Abobe Creative Cloud but I can´t find the Adobe Director application for download in Adobe Application Manager. Does anyone know if Adobe Director is included with Adobe Creative Cloud?

No, it isn't. Director is sold separately.

• Presentation Director missing the "NEW" button

Hi
Does anybody know why the"NEW" button is gone in newer versions of Presentation Director? We have been using this for years but now we have to import new profiles or change old profiles.
Fn + F7, "choose more setting", there we have Copy,Edit, Delete, Apply and Capture but the new button is gone.
Thank you!
Valdimar

You've probably figured this out by now, but for someone stumbling across this...
Use the "Copy" button, then rename the copied profile.

• How to "bless" user directories copied to new iMac?

The old "source" iMac wouldn't boot Target Disk Mode, so I put the new Intel iMac in Target Disk Mode, then used SuperDuper to copy the user directories from the old iMac G5 to the new Intel iMac.
How do I correctly set up the NetInfo Manager records for the ported user directories?
Many thanks, Steve

It may depend on the history of the accounts on that machine, but as of 10.4, if you create a new account the simple way (using "System Preferences" > "Accounts") and a folder exists in "/Users" with the same short name, an option will often be presented allowing that folder to be "adopted" by the new account
Some notes:
The process involves a 'chown -R username:username' equivalent, and the 'uid' of the folder contents will be changed to that of the new user (whose 'uid' will simply be the next available number), as opposed to the user's 'uid' being matched to the folder. So if you have some sort of complicated user:group setup for items within the user's folder, or are trying to maintain consistent 'uid' values for users across multiple machines for NFS or whatever, don't use this method.
Also, if a group already exists with the selected short name, you will not be allowed to create the account, with the message along the lines that the name isn't available.
A couple of the things you mentioned reflect how users were configured in 10.2 and earlier. There have been a few changes to the contents of user records in "NetInfo" since then so I think it would be better to let the system create the accounts rather than doing it yourself - unless there are reasons not to, like the ones mentioned above...

• Adobe: new version and license

I have LR 4 and 5, but have by mistake moved some parts of lightroom. I therefore believe I need to delete present version of LR 5.
Will adobe send me a new licence number when I with my present ID have bougt my present version legally?

The license you purchased is all you need - the number that came with it will still work for reinstalling the software.

• Why will it not allow me to create an adobe new user id for my new program

I'm not sure why it won't allow me to create a new user id account. I just purchased the bundle package adobe photoshop elements 8 and premiere elements 8 for my HP laptop online. I keep getting an error 400 message.

Can you confirm that at the time of creating your AdobeID you are connected to internet? As I expect this error message is appear only in case if you are not connected to internet. So please check it again.

• Trying to restore certain directories to a new Mac

I just received a new MacBook Pro. I have a time machine backup that I want to restore from on a time capsule. For various reasons, I dont' want to restore everything, I simply want to restore certain files, folders, etc. I've tried using 'Browse other backup disks' option and it shows the time capsule and it shows the backup and I can select it but when it goes into the backups, it only shows whats on my new computer. It never loads the old backup so I can't select any files or folder to restore. Any ideas on what could be happening here? By the way, it is Mavericks on the new MBP and the old MBP.
Oh and I apologize if this isn't the correct place to post this but I couldn't find a forum for time machine specifically.

nevermind- contacted chat support and they walked me thru the cleaner tool, and a reinstall. very helpful

Sorry my swc is bit mesh and it is not complety like ProgramFiles and Program Files (x86) and ProgramData and AppData Directories will come soon....
Thanks and best regards!

The product specifications list the requirements as:
Basic Requirements
Genuine Intel? Pentium? III GHz, AMD? GHz processor or faster
Intel, AMD or 00% compatible motherboard chipset
Microsoft? Windows? XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)

• Newgroups for Director: Macromedia or Adobe?

Now that Adobe has officially announced the next version of

I can't speak for Adobe, but I'm still using the
forums.macromedia.com news
server.
If you prefer (yech!) Web Forums over newsreaders, you can
log into the Adobe
web forum pages which access these newsgroups at
http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/
They have NNTP servers for their other products on this
server:
adobeforums.com
I think you can only read those newsgroups with a newsreader
- I haven't been
able to post to them. Otherwise, log into their web forums.
FWIW, all of the HTTP macromedia.com links are automatically
pointing to
adobe.com servers. I have no idea if something similar is
happening with
NNTP.

• Adobe Director inside AIR

Hello,
A simple question, for which I couldn't find a clear answer online.
Is it possible to embed an Adobe Director movie (shockwave) inside an AIR application?
eTelestia Technical Team

Hello roymeo.
Yes, we are aware of that possibility, in fact we are successfully using Flash movies inside a Director project.
But now we needed to deploy our project on AIR platform.
Being AIR and Director both Adobe technologies, we naturally thought there would be some sort of compatibility...
Thanks anyway.
