Director 11 or MX 2004?

I am having a bunch of problems with Director 11.
Should I just go back to MX 2004 - the changes don't seem to
make too much of a difference to me.
And where can I find a full list of changes?
Thanks.

Are you sure that the new version is required for that?
From what I've checked, even when publishing with dir04, the
browsers seem
to be using the new engine for playback, if the new sw
version is installed.
Haven't checked this with OSX, since when developing, I'm
usually in front
of a w2k-like theme XP machine.
But, I can't remember having any issues with shockwave
content on intelMac -
well, except with havok movies.. Then again, didn't spend too
much time on
osx testing or even browsing, lately.
Btw, if the new engine is used automatically, existing
non-english content
that expect to get extended ascii codes when using the
chartonum() function
will have serious issues.

  • Help! Presentation scaling differently after upgrading from Director 8 to MX 2004

I recently upgraded to Director MX 2004 from Director 8.
Since the year 2000, I've been using Director basically to give
souped up Powerpoint presentations to large groups and it's worked
wonderfully. I haven't even been creating projectors, just opening
the Director document, and releasing on "play" and "full screen" in
    the appropriate menus.
When presenting, I'm always hooked up to an LCD projector and
just set the LCD projector as the primary monitor on my Powerbook.
Since Director 8 runs in Classic mode and it's a memory hog and
being phased out, so I sprung for MX 2004. My problem is, when I
follow the same steps outlined above with my old document in MX
2004, the image does not scale the same way. The director document
is sized to 1024x768 and has always fit the LCD projectors screen
perfectly when I set the LCD projector's resolution to match that.
Now, with MX 2004, the dimensions are off. I believe the width
extends off the sides now, as if it's stretched.
Does anyone know what might be accounting for a difference in
how my presentation is being displayed with the only variable being
the newer version of Director? I can still use Director 8 to make
my presentation just fine, but I'd really like to get out of my
Mac's Classic mode (i'm on a PowerBook G4) and make the switch to
    MX 2004 for OS X.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. No, everything looks fine with all
other applications. I took another look at it and here's the
problem. When I release on Full Screen in Director 8, my 1024x768
document fills the 1024x768 screen perfectly. However, when I
launch it in Director MX 2004 and do the same thing, the screen is
shifted about an inch down. The top band is light blue, which I
believe is a color I chose as a background at one point. It almost
looks as if the Director MX 2004's application menus and toolbars
along the top are being accomodated for, even though they're not
showing in the Full Screen mode. Somehow, everything's being
    shifted down. Help!

  • Director MX 2004 and MacOS X 10.5

    Hi
I'm new to macOS but have to port in nearest future some
    projects ,
    developed for Windows on Mac
And therefore the question from newbie.
Is there any possibility to develope in Director under Mac OS
    X 10.5?
Can Director 11 be started under Rosetta or does Version 10.5
    have no
    Rosetta in it?
Can older versions of Director (for example MX 2004) be
    started under
Rosetta on Mac OS X 10.5?
    Any help will be appreciated

    Dear Dean,
First of all, thanks for your answer. Here some screenshot to explain the issue :
I launch the program on clicking the Play button. Then here is the first screen.
When the mouse over the 'A' (next) arrow, it displays the encircled text.
I continu to navigate to further sequences.
You can see that the page are correctly displayed, with the number of them at the bottom.
Clicking on next arrow change the number, and the page.
There is a link to a menu. When you click on it, it display list of thematic and you can see that a field appears with mouse over the icone (red circled one).
Everything works fine with the program using Director Windows Version.
But When i use the same program with Director MacOs Version, these issues occured :
First, when mouse over the next arrow, no text is displayed (cf. first picture)
Then page number are not displayed :
To finnish, nothing appears in the last screen :
    the 'A' content is missing
    the 'B' field is empty
the 'C' field (wich appears on mouse over) is empty too, but when clicking it, this page is loaded.
To Resum the situation : i took  the program made on MX2004 Macintosh. I put it on a PC system.
I use th extra/update animation option to convert the program into director 11.
I open the converted files with director 11 on Windows and it works fine.
I open the converted files with director 11 on MacOS X and i expect these issues.
I hope these explanation should help you to understand my problems, and i hope you should help me to find what's going on.
    Thanks.

  • Exporting Flash to Director WITH video

In Flash, I have created a digital camera, that, when a
button is pressed, the screen changes from showing pictures to
showing a video. This works all fine and well in Flash, however, it
has to work in Director. Now I imported it into Director, obviously
using version:Flash 6, but because of it being version 6, the video
didnt work, so i tried version 7, where the sound of the video
works, but no picture. version 8 isn't supported by the director im
    using (MX 2004).
Does anyone know of a way that I can get around this?
Its so frustrating as it works fine in Flash!

On the Mac - exporting to "Quicktime Video" produces a true
video file (fixed frame rate). It is not
an SWF on a track in the quicktime player - Windows users
only yhave the option to export a flash
    track to QT.
On the Mac, exporting to just quicktime produces a flash
    movie in QT.
The easiest way to tell is to look at the file size of the
SWF and then exported MOV - the MOV will
be MUCH larger - probably hundreds of MBs while the SWF may
only be 100k (give or take).

  • Embed flash exe in a director exe

I have a Director project programmed in 2004 with Macromedia
Director MX 2004 that is a standalone executable program. The
client has sent me an asset he wants embedded in the program that
is itself a Flash .exe program. Is it possible to embed an exe in
an exe? Any Xtras or is this compatible with Director 11 (which I
don't have yet). Any help would be great.

Typically, you would embed a Flash .swf file into Director,
    not the exe.
I don't think you can embed an .exe into Director. You can
    make the
other exe open in another window using the open command, but
    if you need
it embedded in the director file, then it would need to be
    swf.

  • Director 11 lags

    I updated a Director-file from MX 2004 to Director 11.
Everything is complete and working fine. Exept for one thing:
Director 11 lags at one point where I have used a few "Wipe

now there is in DR11, and I realy want to use Director 11. Is there
any setup that I should do? I am very glad if anyone can solve this
    problem!

  • Directory Listing from Web

    Hi All,
I am trying to populate a menu with a list of PDF files from
a particular folder. I've got this working perfectly for a local
path using the FileXtra4 xtra, but I'm stumped with getting a
folder from the web. I've tried the Buddy Web xtra, but it returns
an empty list when I use:
    fileList = bwFileList("
    http://www.awebsite.com/stuff/",
Maybe I could embed a Flash Movie and have Flash pass the
    list to Director?
I'm using Director and Flash MX 2004
    Any help much appreciated
    Thanks guys,

    Hi,
I'm not sure about Buddy Web xtra (I've not used it), but you
have a couple of other options:
    1. Use the excellent free and for absolutely no sane reason
depreciated MultiUSer Xtra to create a network connection with an
ftp server and use standard ftp commands to get a directory
    listing. see
    http://www.lingoworkshop.com/Testzone/FTP_Client_Test.php
    2. Use getNetText to ask a server-script to return the list
of files. This is probably the safest but is dependent on the
    server (example php script attached).

  • Help needed by neophyte! - part 2

Searching the Support files yielded this:
"...error is caused by conflicts between Windows (XP and
2000) and the version of Macromedia Director used to create the
    auto-run menu..."
Assuming that's the nature of the problem, how can I fix it
without going back into the original program? Thanks again for
putting up with this dumb dude!

The problem is that Director 6 was not certified to make
    executables for
Windows XP (since XP wasn't released for several years).
    Either
Director MX or MX 2004 (forgot which) is required to make
    executables
that are guaranteed to work with XP.
I would spend a little more time with Sean's suggestion. In
    every case
that I have seen with that error, changing the compatibility
    options has
been successful. I would change it to Windows95 or windows98
compatibility. Also play with some of the other display
    settings on the
Compatibility tab, like 256 colors and such. It almost always
    works
    with some combination of options.

  • Using USA Address Engines

    Hello,
We are on Data Services 3.2.
I have downloaded the US directories (SBOP ADDR US 2004-2008) and using the USA engine.
In the designer, i have mapped
    Address_Line
    Country
    Locality1
    Postcode
It is giving an error saying that You have not set up enough fields for last-line data
I went ahead and set Last-Line data.
Now it is giving me an error saying that Duplicate last-line fields defined. Cannot specify the last-line field and locality/(region/postcode) fields
Any advice to work around this problem?

If you have Data Services 3.2, you need to download the BOBJ ADDR US 2009 format for US directories.
The first time you mapped the following lines:
    Address_Line
    Country
    Locality1
    Postcode
You were missing the Region field on input.
When you added the last-line field, you were telling USA Regulatory Address Cleanse(URAC) that Locality and Postcode were in two different fields.  This resulted in the duplicate error that you received.
For URAC there are three types of input field mappings that are valid:
    Discrete:
    Address
    Locality1
    Region
    Postcode
    Hybird:
    Multiline1
    Multiline2
    Locality1
    Region
    Postcode
    Complete Multiline:
    Multiline1
    Multiline2
    Multiline3
    Multiline4
    etc...
Note: You can also use the Lastline field in place of Multiline or in place of all three Locality, Region and Postcode.
    Hope this helps...

  • Multiuser XTRA connecting to NNTP server.

    Hi There
Director 9.0 (MX 2004) running on Win 2000 Pro.
So I connect to the nntp server using:
res = gMUI.connectToNetServer(gUser, gPassword, gNNTP, gPort,
    "Test", 1 )
and get a reply back stating:
    [#errorCode: 0, #recipients: ["<my login id>],
    #senderID: "<my usenet server id>", #subject: "String",
    #content: "200 NNTP server ready - posting allowed", #timeStamp: 0]
    But when I issue a:
    res = gMUI.SendNetMessage("system", "dummy", "GROUP
    alt.atheism")
I don't get a response back through my default message
    handler.
Seeing as I started on this about an hour ago, presumably I'm
    doing something terribly stupid.
    Your thoughts welcome!
    Thanks
    TW.

I have no experience with nntp servers, so I can only comment
on what I understand in your code.
You are creating a connection in text mode, by using 1 as the
sixth parameter to the connectToNetServer() call. Many of the
features that you can expect from an SMUS connection to an
SMUServer are unavailable when you work in text mode.
You can find an article on using text mode to talk to a POP3
    email server at
    http://director-online.com/buildArticle.php?id=1145.
Perhaps this will give you some pointers as to how to work with
    your nntp server.

    Hi Aquilonian,
While Javascript has been out for a number of years, it is
still in version 1 as there hasn't been a Director update
since that 2004 version. At this point, the Lingo forum
covers all programming (so includes JS). So, don't think
we'll see a Javascript forum any time soon, definitely not
before we get a new Director (scheduled for the latter
    part of this year).
The Multiuser forum is more of a legacy forum at the moment.
It does not get much traffic. Again, will have to see
what Adobe does on this side of things with the next Director
which may help define how they'll structure the forums
    in the future.

  • Where to Buy Macromedia Director MX 2004 (ver 10)

I have an application that uses CTX files created from MX 2004.  Newer versions won;t work and the developer fo tha application has no plans on upgrading the application to make it compatible with newer versions of Director.
I have searched in vain to find someplace to purchase of copy of MX2004.
Ten years is old for software but not ancient; I find it strange that in this day and age there's nothing available.
Does anyone have an idea of where I might be able to locate this?

  • Director mx 2004 won't display Flash 8 swf files & other Flash media

I have created a Flash 8 Project which has audio, video (which are converted to swf files fom flvs), flashpaper.  This application is driven by XML.
However  this application works fine outside director, but when I import the main swf file into director mx 2004 and RUN it, director won't display the videos (but I can hear the audio from the videos), Director wont show graphic images(eg menu icon movie buttons, and flash buttons). Also I can launch external files (eg text file) from flash, but again it won't work via director.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE
I suggest there's no need to shout.
Try linking the Director cast member to the external swf file instead of fully importing it. You also should have the 10.1.1 update in place - this is particularly important.

  • Can director open MX 2004 files?

I just upgraded to Mac Snow Leopard. I knew that MX 2004 10.2 was not compatible, but I was using 10.1 and thought it would be okay. Well, Snow Leopard won't run 10.1 either. I also have Director 11 installed. Snow Leopard will run that one, but I can't open or convert any of the 10.1 files with Director 11 because Director crashes when I try to do that.
Does anyone know what might be going on here? Is there a way to open MX 2004 files in Director 11? I REALLY don't want to re-create all of my files in Director 11.

    Hi Bob,
It probably doesn't matter what the error dialog says as it's unlikely to be something you can fix. I would suggest emailing Allen Partridge directly to make him aware of your problem: mailto:[email protected] and I'd also suggest logging a bug in the hope someone will take it seriously - the more noise you make, the more likely you are to get some traction. However, I'd advise against holding your breath and suggest you find someone able to convert your files for you - either on a Mac with an earlier OS (in case Snow Leopard has anything to do with it - which I think is unlikely), or on a Windows machine. Depending on file size I would be prepared to try one for you if that would help.
