Director 11 - very delayed window activation - slow start
Hi Commmunity,
since yesterday I have a problem with Adobe Director 11 on Mac OSX 10.7.
I didn't change anything, I did not update the operating system or whatever. The problem appeared suddenly, and I couldn't yet find the reason.
When I click on the opend Director (author interface), it takes more than 30 seconds to get the interface activated. I cannot continue working, because the waiting-curor is rotating for an endless long time. This happens any time, that I switch to another application and then go back to Director. Then the user interface is blocked by the rotating cursor. During that waiting time all palets and windows as show with a white background (no interface elements visible).
After waiting that long time, I can work as usual. Easy to imagine, how stressful this is, as I often have to switch to other applications or to the finder . Each time I come back, the same long waiting time.
I have resinstalled Director but this problem did not disappear.
I cannot imagine, it is a compatibility-problem with OSX 10.7, because it worked well all the time, until yesterday.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
Smartyn
I found out more about that problem and want to report it.
When I open an older file, Director opens fast as usual. But once I save it by a new filename, I notice, that the saving-process takes a while.
After that, the problem appears. When I re-open the file or when I switch to Director, it takes that long time 30-40 seconds), to make it accessible.
It does not appear, whil I run older files.
Really strnge, I still have no idea about the meaning behind this.
Still hope for answers, thank you.

I am having a problem with very slow start up after expanding RAM on my 2009 Mac Pro.
I am having a problem with very slow start up after expanding RAM on my 2009 Mac Pro (8 Core 2.93GHz). When I run the Mac Pro with 2 x 2Gb RAM it takes 4 seconds before the gray screen, chime and spinning wheel appear. However when I expand the RAM to 20GB the grey screen and chimes appear after a long 20+ second black screen.
The RAM modules are paored 2 x 4GB Crucial CT51272BA1339.M18FMR and 6 x 2GB SAMSUNG M391B5673FH0-CH9, all DDR3 ECC.
Reading articles on the internet, I thought it may be damaged RAM modules, but I have completed memtest and all are okay. I have tried changing the pairs around and if I use any paired 2 modules the Mac Pro starts normally, only when I try running more than 2 modules the delayed start up happens. (black screen 20 Seconds)
I also have tried PRAM and SMU resets after changing the RAM setups, and the issues always occurs when I have more than 2 modules. As you can see I have 6 SAMSUNG modules and even with identical modules the issue happens, when increasing the RAM to more than 2 modules.
The Mac Pro runs fine after the start up screen and can see all the modules, but has anyone else come across this issue, or have any ideas as to why my Mac Pro is taking 20 seconds to start up with 20 GB RAM?Hi there. Thanks for your comments.
I have tried all the different combinations of RAM setup, and as stated in my initial topic, the Mac Pro boot up time only slows when I have more that 2 modules. Where I place these does not seem to make a difference.
I have taken the Mac Pro to an Apple Reseller technician yesterday and they where not able to find any RAM errors. Apparently the boot up time is within Apple's acceptable parameters for this set up.
Could anyone that is running a Mac Pro 2009 with more that 4 modules of RAM, please let me know if the boot up time is normal. ( the time it takes from pressing the power button to seeing the gray screen around 16 - 20 seconds)
Or is anyone else having the same issues?
thanks for your responce -

Very slow start up and very slow response
Hi guys,
SOS
My iMac is so slow to boot or start up. It takes about an 1-2 hours. It has very slow and very delayed response when doing tasks. I'm not sure what happened.
I have tried safe mode but it has not worked. I tried the disk utility but it was saying that my DVD (possibly because it is for snow leopard) is outdated. I think I updated to Lion.
Do you have any suggestions? I will try any other tricks. Do you recommend to back up before doing repair etc.?
thanks in advance!!Tried to reset the RAM but did not get through. It went to disk utility again. Tried repair but it still saying to back up and restore files. Maybe the HD has been toasted. =(...
It says: Invalid key lenght. Volume Mac HD could not be verifried completely.. then it says Error: disk utilityu can't repair close back disk out, restoere etc..
In disk utillity as well, Mac OS X base system appeared- I dont know the purpose of this. It has some files on it. Dont know whether to restore it or what?..Mac HD seems like the it's empty..
Thanks again guys...It feels like I'm in a maze.. -
Early 2008 MacBook Pro - Very slow start up, very hot
Hi All,
Looking for some help. Searched quite a few of the online forums and have not been able to resolve this issue.
A few months back, my old reliable MacBook Pro (early 2008) started behaving oddly. Have no idea why, but went to start it up one day, and it took forever to start up and get me to the login screen. Been like that ever since. Occassionally, when I finally get to the login screen, the keyboard will not function. After a few minutes though, it always works. This only happens about 5% of the time. Once I log in, everything about the computer from a performance perspective seems to be pretty normal In addition to the slow start up, however, system gets extremely hot at the top of the keyboard, near the monitor. Fans run fast almost all the time when the system is powered on, and often when it is 'asleep'. CPU Temp goes to about 170, and the fans are always between 2400 and 3500.
I took it to Apple a while back, and based on the incredibly slow start up time they believed it was a disk issue. I went ahead and purchased a 500GB internal drive and this past weekend used SuperDuper to copy the original boot disk. All went well and I now have a new internal disk. At the same time, I upgrade the RAM from 2GB to 4GB.
After all that, the system is still very slow at startup and runs as hot as it did before. I will say, it does seem to be slightly faster on the startup, but not what I had become accustomed to for the first 4 years of use.
I looked at the activity monitor and don't see any processes hogging resources.
No anti-virus software running.
Currently running Mac OSX 10.6.8
My battery is pretty muc shot, but I never really use the system unplugged.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!Hi there
I am having a similar issue, my mac is the same age but I am getting a major heat issue.
looking for some possible solutions. -
Installing 10.5.6 made Final Cut Pro very slow start up
After installation of OSX 10.5.6 (combo) , final cut pro 6.0.4 or 6.0.5 is very slow start up the application. I did all kinds of things such : Disc permission, DiscWarrior, Techo tool, but
it is very very slow to start up. When I re-installed final cut pro, it did start up right away,
then after restart, again final cut pro starts very very slow.
Please advice.Hi Yuki,
It's very important to read the information regarding these updates before you install them. If you click the Apple logo top left in your Desktop then click Software Updates, when there is a system update available, there will be a link available for you to click and it will take you to all the information you should peruse before the update. Here is info on the 10.5.6 update. Apparently there are known 3rd party software issues. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3194
First thing I would is check the disk for errors. You need your restore disk for this.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click the Verify button. If DU reports errors, click the Repair button. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If you restart and it's still really slow booting up, you might want to UNinstall FCP. If you do, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions before and after you reinstall it.

Slow start up - network.target 1min 30sec delayed
Hope i'm in the right forum.
I've been using Arch for 3 years now and enjoying every second.
recently my start-up time has gone up significantly, mainly the user space:
Startup finished in 3.295s (kernel) + 1min 31.196s (userspace) = 1min 34.491s
there seems to be a long delay between NetworkManager.service loading (@6.954s +3.766s) and network.target loading network.target (1min 30.869s):
# systemd-analyze critical-chain
The time after the unit is active or started is printed after the "@" character.
The time the unit takes to start is printed after the "+" character.
graphical.target @1min 31.196s
`-multi-user.target @1min 31.196s
`-autofs.service @1min 30.905s +290ms
`-network.target @1min 30.869s
`-NetworkManager.service @6.954s +3.766s
`-basic.target @6.951s
`-timers.target @6.949s
`-systemd-tmpfiles-clean.timer @6.949s
`-sysinit.target @6.946s
`-sys-fs-fuse-connections.mount @32.751s +1ms

`-systemd-journald.socket @869ms
`--.mount @867ms
`-system.slice @1.478s

any idea what can i do to re-sequence the services so the startup does not take so much time? With systemd you dont need to "re-sequence" anything cause is booting psedo-parallel.
You need to identify the service (or services) that slow you down.
Try adding debug on your kernel parameter boot loader (remove quiet) and see with journactl -b for errors in booting services. -
Very slow start when initially entering the service ticket in Web UI (2007)
We seem to encounter a very slow start when initially entering the service ticket in Web UI (2007). Once in all seems speedy enough. I don't have my access arrange for the Service marketplace (OSS notes) yet so can't check if there is a known solution, which I suspect there is. Has anyone encountered this problem and possibly resolved it?.

1162685 SAP CRM 2007 Webclient Performance

However, I was wondering whether anyone has come across any other small changes that may have a major effect. A quick-win I guess you call it. From bitter experience I know there are rarely quick wins when it comes to optimisation due to the amount of re-testing etc.
But any further advice would be welcome.

B210a is very slow started to print wirelessly
I recently purchased a B210a which I'm using wirelessly from my Apple iPhone, iPad, and a Mac. It takes over a minute to start printing from any of these devices. I've now connected a cable from my iMac and it is still very slow starting. Any suggestions?
Tell me about your network - router brand/model, encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).

GX620 Windows 7 Slow Boot Times
I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate x86 on my gx620 but I'm now experiencing very slow start up times. It gets to the screen where it says "Starting Windows" with the Windows logo glowing and sits there for about 2-3 minutes. I never had this problem when I was using Vista on it before. I'm guessing this is a driving problem but I don't know which driver I am missing.
The report from the performance montior says I have drivers that are not installed but I have no idea what I need. I went on the MSI site and I downloaded some of the Windows 7 drivers that I think I needed but now I don't know what to do.
Can anyone please help me?
Thank you
EDIT: I have now downloaded all the needed drivers but the boot times are still the same....
I look in the Event View and it says:
Warning Event 108
Application of user policy caused a slow down in the system start up process:
Name : PreShellInit
Total Time : 2726ms
Degradation Time : 1212msOn my computer:
In the instant when the Windows startup image is shown (with the points that are growing and finally build the win logo) the hdd activity stops and the computer just sits doing nothing for about 10 minutes.
After the 10 minutes suddenly the hdd wakes up and the system loads windows in 10-15 seconds.
Please find bellow my ntblog file. In this file is bad that there are no timestamps shows to see where is the 10 minutes delay :( .
I search on the internet but I couldn't find any tool to put the timestamps in the file. without this I doubt that we'll be able to debug this.
I saw that back in the XP this file contained also timestamps and M$ decided that "the user should not tweak the system" and took out the timestamps. Instead they created the tool called bootvis.exe that was able to display timestamps and this tool was offered for money :(.
Anyway I was not able to find any mean to see timestamps in the boot log so I am stuck for the moment.
I believe that one of the default drivers provided by microsoft and contained in the windows package and installed by default is causing this delay but I don't have any mean to investigate this further.
In the following days I'll try to ask some friends with a better windows knowledge maybe they can help me , but for the moment I run out of ideas :(
Anyway, here is my ntblog.txt (is few days old but I didn't start windows since then) :

Slow start up and Shut Down since upgrading to Mountain Lion - Etrecheck Result query
Hello, I have recently upgraded my operating system from Snow Leopard to the latest Mountain Lion from the app store. My Macbook Pro (early 2010) is now experiencing slow start up times (more than 1 minute) and slow shut down (more than 45 seconds). Programs such as iPhoto and Firefox are now taking a long time to start up too and the multicoloured wheel is appearing a lot.It was always snappy and very quick with Snow Leopard. I have seen that quite a lot of people seem to have had similar issues too.
I have Verified and Repaied my disk, reset SMC, and PRAM numerous times and cleared the system caches, as well as making a new user account and opened in Safe Mode. "Searchlight" has finished indexing. Nothing I've done so far has helped the issue. I have run an Etrecheck and note that a few things have "failed", the results are below. Does anyone know what these items do or how to correct them? These could be the cause of the issue as they are Apple items - e.g. account, ID and @me.com processes.
I did not do a clean/fresh installation of Mountain Lion, but I did verify the Snow Leopard disk before I installed it. I'm thinking perhaps to do a clean install but I'm not sure if this will resolve the "failed" Etrecheck issues or not?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance.

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
I'm using HP dv6 7043 cl. My system was really slow. It was taking almost 7 mins in startup. I tried to reboot but I think I chose the wrong option while doing it. I pressed F9 button. It asked me to choose DVD-R or usb. I chose dvd option as my recovery was made on discs. Later it gave me the hp recovery menu options. There, I chose system recovery. It did it successfully but now the windows is not starting. It says Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. Can someone please help and tell me how can I solve this issue and again get back my original windows?
Hi,
Assuming this may just a problem with the recovery media/process, here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - this is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. These Images are clean and from a well-respected source - Digital River.
Windows 7 Images.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.

DP-K

Satellite Pro - Slow start up and sound is messed up
I have had my *Toshiba Satellite Pro* with *Windows XP* for a good few years now. She has always worked like a gem and has given me no problems until a few weeks ago.
A few weeks ago I was downloading a program and with it came the very unwanted and unliked "Antivir Solutions" virus. I did everything I could to get rid of this disaster (thanks to the help of support forums) and I think I managed to get rid of it, but ever since then my computer has not been the same.
I was having trouble downloading a PDF document a few days ago and it froze so I tried to restart which caused the computer to have a hissy fit, deleting my user account which meant I had to set all that up again from scratch. And, now, the computer takes a good 45 minutes from the time you press the "ON" button to when it is ready to start working. Not to mention, it takes a good 10 minutes each time you click an icon for the program to actually start..
I have tried defragmenting the system and have tried uninstalling unused programs to speed the computer up, but it hasn't worked.
I have also run several antivirus programs (such as Norton, AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials) to make sure I have no nasties messing me up, but they come up clean.
May I also add- The sound is messed up also. Whether I use the inbuilt speakers or external speakers the sound is disjointed and broken. As is any Video I play.
I just don't know what to do.
I cannot really afford a new computer, but I need my computer to be reliable. I use my computer for 12 out of the 24 hours in each day...
*What can I do?*Hi nicoletrist,
I dont know what notebook you have exactly but I think the slow Windows start is caused due the viruses that you have or had.
Few years ago I had also a virus and it was causing a very slow start up, it did take up to 10 minutes until Windows was loaded and the only solution to get rid of this was using Toshiba recovery disk.
I would recommend the same to you. Use the Toshiba recovery disk to restore factory settings and backup your data because everything on HDD will be deleted.
Im sure after using recovery disk your notebook will run like a charm again! :) -
Satellite E105: Slow Start Up
Whenever my satellite E105 is completely shut down it seems to take a very long time to start up and beginning running normally. Is this normal or is there something I should be doing about this?

Window 7 ultimate 64bit (6.1, build 7601)
hi, I discovered this additional anomaly.
This week I downloaded the latest updates for Windows 7 64bit.
I restarted the PC. I started the program and it worked.
There is one problem though: was only the laptop's screen (1920x1200) but my workstation is not this one.
I have a Matrox TripleHead2Go DP Edition with 2 hp ZR24x screens (24 ") for a final resolution of 3840x1200.
The monitor (and cover) of the laptop is closed.
The program has the same problems I describe above images to which they refer.
The same configuration is also when I use Mac Lion, however, the program works.
so in summary with MacBook Pro I installed the trial program :
Mac Lion:
only notebook screen 17" is ok
with matrox with 2 screens 24" more its notebook screen 17" is ok.
Window 7 64 bit:
only notebook screen 17" is ok.
with matrox with only 2 screens 24" the program not work correctly, is KO.... but i work with this!!!
(only 2 screens 24" because no configuration otherwise support 1920x1200 each screen)
