Director 12 xTras

Does anyone know of a list of Director 12 xtras?
Specifically I am looking for a bluetooth xtra and a serial xtra.

HI!
The stuff I create for disabled kids relies heavily on Xtras so I'm pretty intimate with them.  And I'm updating my 10 Mac titles to OS 10.7 and above (post PPC) now so I needed to use Dir 12. The Audio Xtra doesn't work on the Mac side but still does on the Win side.  BudAPI still works fairly well (a few functions don't work) on the Mac side and works fine on the Win side.  The Flash, Text, FileIO that come with Dir 12 all work fine on both sides.  Those are the primary ones I use.  To my knowledge, there is no "Bluetooth" Xtra, although that's not really describing exactly what you want?
But on the iOS side of things, nothing works.  We have been after Adobe to follow up on the documentation they provide on building iOS Xtras and are very close, but their support of Director these days is almost non-existent.  I can chat with someone that seems to know what he's talking about, but in 2 issues so far (the Xtras and getting any keyboard input into an iPad Dir app) have not been resolved.
I'm hoping others with Xtras aspirations for iOS will help me to raise a flag for Adobe to simply have Dir 12 do what they own docs say.
So if anyone out there is hoping for a simple solution to creating iOS apps, and realizes Dir 12 actually does a great job of it, but needs some other features that used to be in Xtras, we will share out information about making your own Xtras, if Adobe ever helps us!

  • Hosting Director Xtras (.ppc, .carb, .w32). & Refreshing Shockwave Content!

    Hi
I'm running Director 2004 under XP pro.
I've written a specialised FTP client that runs as a .dcr embedded in a webpage. So far so, good. The app works fine, but I'm using a shared hosting service with fasthosts and they do not appear to permit downloading of filetypes that are unspecified on their systems. So when I try to download the necessary .w32 file, the server denies it exists. I've talked to Fasthosts and they are "thinking about" including .w32, .x32, .ppc, .carb and so on filetypes in the shared server configuration as application/x-director, but I suspect it will take some time for them to get their act together.
This isn't much of a problem in the development phase (tweaked the local DNS a bit) but it'll be a problem when the system goes live!
The xtra I'm using is DirectFTP from www.directxtras.com
So to cut to the chase, does anyone know of any resource paid or free that will host and allow the download of the nececessary files?
    Many thanks
    TW.
And while I'm here, does anyone know how to force a browser to reload a .dcr from the site itself instead of using the copy in the local browser cache? It's a bit of a pain deleting locally cached files all the time.
    Again many thanks in advance.

  • Director Player Error. cays needs Xtra

I'm using a PC with Xp Professional and one of my new applications requires Quick Time. When the program tries to load it comes up with an error Message. Title is *DIRECTOR PLAYER ERROR*.
+This application requires an Xtra (Quicktime) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtra folder(s).+
I've reloaded all quicktime and itunes software and it still comes up. what are the steps to take to find theses 'Xtra" folders?????

The Xtra is a Director component, not something in QuickTime. If a packaged Director application isn't working and is asking for a Director Xtra, then either the developer didn't properly package the Xtra with the application or they're using one that's out of date for the version of QuickTime you have on your system. Either way you'll probably have to contact the publisher of your application and discuss the problem with them.

  • Xtra for windows

I am creating a project on mac to be viewed on windows
system. How can I do with xtra. The director xtras for mac doesn't
work on pc. Should I buy a kit? Where can I find it?
    thank you very much,

If you aren't using any 3rd party xtras and you're not
    creating a
Shockwave projector then publishing on a Mac for Windows
    should work
fine. But be sure to test it on Windows (perhaps under
    Parallels) when done.

  • Password Protect Part of a Director Movie

    Hi,
I've recently purchased INM Impressario and i've added a bunch of PDFS to my director movie.
I'll be handing this movie out to my students, but i would like only certain students to view certain pdf files.
Is there a way i can either password protect the pdf sprite, or would it be easier to go to another frame on button click, whereby the user has to enter a password, and if the password is correct they will be taken to the frame that contains the pdf file.
appreciate any advice. I have never used Lingo before and this is most likely where it will be heading....
    many thanks,
    Richard.

    1) install the xtra
Make sure that you put the budapi.x32 (or whatever the x32 name is) into your Director xtras folder. That would typically be program files\adobe\adobe director 11\configuration\xtras.  Older versions of Director would have similar paths, but with Macromedia instead of Adobe
    2) Add the xtra to the movie
Open your file in Director and go to Modify, Movie, Xtras... and Add  budapi to your projector
    3) Make a button that will bring up the prompt.
Use any text or bitap that you want.  Give it this script:
    on mouseUp me
         userEntered=baPrompt("","Please enter your password","",2,-1,-1)
         if userEntered="CORRECT PASSWORD HERE" then
              go "correct"
         else
              go "incorrect"
         end if
    end
*obviously, change CORRECT PASSWORD HERE to the correct password, and change those two go statements to do whatever you want the program to do if the password is entered correctly or incorrectly.

  • Urgent: How to export a Director cast member - in this case it's a flash movie?

    Hi there,
    I've got a problem - of course, that's why I'm here.
My problem is that in my Director (version 11.5) movie a flash movie is member of the cast list (sorry, I only know the German terms and hope totranslate correctly!). In it's properties there's no source-URL. So it must be "in" the Director film somehow.
Unfortunately the original file went lost. Now I need to have this flash movie as a flash movie, not as a member/ cast. Is there any possibility to get the movie out of Director als a file?
Thanks so much for your help!
    Kind regards
    Jana

    Hi Sean,
thanks for that hint! I downloaded and extracted the Xtra into the Director Xtra folder. Then I tried to use the function "exportSWF", but it told me the handler is undefined.
Unfortunately I'm a real Lingo beginner and don't know anything about Xtra usage.
    I used the following code:
    m = member("Player")
    exportSWF( m, "/output.swf", TRUE )
I'm sure that line 1 gives me the flash movie as a member, because it is used like that in the code already.
I thought with the Xtra I can simply use the exportSWF-funcion. What else is to do to use it??
    Thanks in advance!
    Jana

  • Packaging Xtra for Shockwave download

A few questions regarding packaging an xtra for Shockwave:
I have created a Windows scripting Xtra that is
Shockwave-safe - works fine if manually placed into the local cache
for downloaded xtras (...\Documents and Settings\...\Application
Data\...\Shockwave Player\xtras\...."). I would like to make our
Shockwave application pick up the xtra from our web server. I
understand that xtras can be made for automatic download, but am
not clear on the details of how you do this, and have struggled to
get anything detailed from my web searches. The questions:
    1) do I need the "Xtra Packaging Kit"?
    2) where do I get the above? (was looking at previous thread
on this - the product doesn't seem to exist anymore) Is it part of
    the forthcoming Director release?
    3) would it suffice to make the application manually download
the xtra (and is this possible)?
    4) does the packaging kit also deal with digital
certification, or is this down to me to sort separately?
    Kind regards,
    Sam

    Hi Sam,
A few people have asked about the Director Xtras Packaging
    Kit and I followed up
    the question with Adobe.
The XPK was taken off the online store as Adobe transitioned
    Director and
Shockwave from a Macromedia product to Adobe. The transition
    to Adobe has taken
longer than expected because of things like neglect from
    Macromedia, old codebase,
new Operating Systems... From my understanding, once the new
    XDK is fully updated
to be compatible with all OS's, it will make its way back
    onto the site. This will
likely correspond to the release of the next version of Adobe
    Director 11.
Adobe should be giving some public info soon on Director 11.

  • Display Resolution Set Xtra

Can someone recommend a good Xtra for setting the user's
monitor resolution? I own and old one from Andrade, but it doesn't
work properly with Director MX. When I tried to purchase an upgrade
I found Andrade no longer exists.
    Suggestions, anyone?
    Thanks.
    Dewey

    Hi Dewey,
If you need a Windows only Xtra, you can try DM ChangeRes
    http://www.dmtools.com/index.jsp
    (Click Xtras > Products)
Very easy to use. And it is free.
Otherwise, Buddy API can do it:

Andrade Arts still exists. Not sure what the problems were:

  • Is it possible to Embed Youtube Widescreen windows full options on Flash CS5 AS2 Website?

    Good Day
Does anyone know How to Embed a Youtube widescreen Video window on a Flash Website, i'm using Flash CS5 and ActionScript 2???!!
I've seen several video tutorials on youtube and other websites about this, but they only work with a window of 480px for 385px (4:3),
which doesn't allow the fullscreen option on the lower bar of the video, because the player still had a silver bar not a black one !!!!
This is the one i've been using!!!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfU5Hj3uKZ4
I would like to use a widescreen window (16:9; 16:10), like the ones youtube curently uses, 360p; 480p;720p, like in this case:

There are two options here that I can think of..
    1.  Preinstall AIR on their machines, and use AIR files.  That will work IF AIR is already installed.     Flash projectors have no ability to control the file system in this way, but AIR does.
    2. Use a Director projector.   There are Director Xtras that can control the file system, and you can embed a SWF in Director.  So you wouldn't have to recreate the SWF content, you'd only need to have Director and learn some basics about using SWF and making projectors.
That's all I can think of.

  • Setting mouse position

Imagine that I want to move the mouse/cursor 100 pixels to
    the left.
Properties mouseH and mouseV are read-only, so I don't know
how to move the mouse with Lingo.
    Any idea?

    > But, if I use Shockwave in a browser, must the user
    install something else?
Whether it's in Shockwave or not, the end-user will need an
    xtra
available for you to place the cursor where you want it. The
    only
difference with Shockwave is that you'll have to choose an
    xtra that is
marked as SW-safe, has packages available for auto-download,
    and is
cross-platform. In this case Buddy API won't do, but the
    MoveCursor xtra
    will:

  • Code ceases working after months, PC only

    Hi,
    Apologies for the cross post.
We have a project that is running on Mac and PC, swf's that
are loaded into a Director player. They were published
November/December 2005 in Flash MX. All Director Xtras are packaged
and installed with the project, as are four libraries necessary to
    create a fast start projector.
The swf's tally some results in an object, which is passed to
a method that creates a string. The break is in the method, where I
do a split and check the result (tmpvar == "TM"). The project was
professionally QA'd, as well as inhouse, and by our client. We also
have a good store of data from the time the project was launched
until late July that shows the work has been functioning without a
    hitch.
We received reports that the swf's stopped successfully
reporting late July/early August, only on some PC's, and only PCs
running WinXP (not all, either). Has anyone else had a project that
has inexplicably gone awry in the last month or two? I am able to
replicate the problem only through the Director authoring
environment (the project runs fine here on XP, of course), but as
soon as I republish one of the offending swf's, the issue is
    resolved.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing
such an issue? We are facing having to reburn a GM and redistribute
new CD's, a quite expensive exercise.
    Cheers,
    ck

  • Is it possible to open a directory from a Windows Projector file?

    Hello,
The powers that be have decided a project I'm working on shouldn't go on a website after all, but needs to be on a CD for Windows users instead and of course I only have a couple of days to made the "relevant tweaks" as they call them.
It needs to run directly from the CD so I presume AIR isn't a good option.
I've got all of it working by publishing to a Windows Projector executable.  The bit I'm stuck with is allowing users to click buttons to open various directories which will be on the CD.  These are source files for following tutorials from the main part of the CD.  I've tried playing around with the various options in the FileReference class (namely browse() and download()), but they seem to be set up for use online only.
My current workaround is to simply tell users where the necessary files are located and leave them to find them on the CD, but this isn't great.
My forum and google search has turned up some stuff to do with .bat files, but I don't understand these and would rather find a solution within Flash if at all possible.
    Can anybody help?

There are two options here that I can think of..
    1.  Preinstall AIR on their machines, and use AIR files.  That will work IF AIR is already installed.     Flash projectors have no ability to control the file system in this way, but AIR does.

  • Saving details

Greetings all, im half way through making a prototype of my
fitness program, the content and things like that are fine and even
how to do the scripting inside it should be no real problem,
basically the program should be able to save detail like the
obvious thing, name, age, username, password etc, and iv already
received help on how to do passwords, but its more a case of where
the details get stored, i was originally planning on using the
getPrefs etc to do it, but after speaking with my supervisor i was
told to look into either fileIO or using a web server to store the
details, then the program could call the data from there and for
example, check if a users log in name matched their password etc.
the main problem is that im useless when it comes to server stuff
and that side of the internet, im willing to learn as i think that
side of it would make my program more robust, but i also dont want
to get in over my head.
i was wondering what method you would recommend for this kind
of procedure and possibly just as importantly if you know of any
websites/books with tutorials to follow on how to do it.
as a smaller but less important notes, what would be the
easiest method of making drop down menus, iv checked the forum
before, downloaded buddymenu and something else but iv not tried
them yet, is there a very basic way of doing it without plug ins?
and finally can director email people? for example if a user
forgets their password could it email them?
thanks greatly for any help or advice anyone can give
    Moza

For storing data on the web you may want to look at the
following post, you may also want to investigate the v12 xtra. That
having been said, at least in my opinion, storing user data on the
web, while it may sound like a cool idea, is going to be vastly
more complex (read time consuming and expensive) vs storing data
locally using something like FileIO or BuddyAPI.
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=187&threadid=1341973
For emailing: gotoNetPage("mailto:[email protected]") is easy
and doesn’t require any xtras but it spawns a blank browser
window in addition to the email client which you might not like.
BuddyAPI’s baOpenURL will do the same thing without spawning
the browser window. I’ve also used DLLbinder with a MAPI dll
which is cool but only works if you’re 100% certain your user
base will have a MAPI compliant email client (ie: Outlook, Outlook
Express, and maybe some clones). Note however, in all of these case
all you’re doing is launching the email client and spawning
an email form and possibly pre-populating some of the fields
… which means you’ll be showing the password in the
message body, what you are probably looking for is a transparent
email which none of the solutions above can implement*…
To implement the familiar emailed password you see on some
websites I think you’re either going to need an xtra (if
Director is emailing) or a server script if the data is stored
remotely. For a Director xtra solution I found directEmail easy to
use and capable but there are others. If you are using an ASP
server solution you can read up on CDONTS and/or CDOSYS for email.
You don’t need a lot of ASP experience to get something like
that to work, I put together a project a few years back where
Director sent data to an ASP server and the server constructed the
email and sent it out. I got most of the ASP code I needed from
Google searches. If your server is PHP or Cold Fusion I can’t
help you much except to say there are probably direct equivalents
    to the ASP components.
*Strictly speaking the MAPI solution can email transparently
but it throws all sorts of security warnings so it’s not very
    useful in that capacity.
