Director 5 movies - What are my options?

Hello,
My company produced a CD-ROM for troubled teenagers in 1998 with Director 5 (I think). Lots of Quicktime movies (v.2.1!) and buttons (lingo). The content is still very much relevant and we have been asked to uprade the product.
What are my options now?
Can I convert it for Shockwave and the Web or will there be too many lingo issues?
Should I reopen the files, if at all possible, in a newer version of Director and work out the problems one at a time?
Should I give up?
Any advice is most welcome. Thank you in advance.

Can I convert it for Shockwave and the Web or will there be too many lingo issues?
You can't readily convert it for Shockwave use without first updating the file format to a newer version. You should start with updating the files in Director 7 which is the first version (IIRC) to use QT3 (the "modern" QuickTime for Windows engine). Development using Director underwent some major changes between 5 and 7 with the introduction of behavior scripts and sprite spans etc., so you should get your content working in D7 before progressing as this step will be the hardest. How complicated is impossible to say without seeing it, but I don't think you should give up without trying.

  • I am running out of space on my imac.  what are my options?

I have had my imac for a few years that came with 500 GB of hard drive space.  I am down to about 94 GB and I'm starting to get nervous that I won't have space pretty soon.  I also have a new 2 TB time machine and don't know if that will help me at all.  What are my options to get more space available to me?  The majority of my files are movies, pictures, and music.

you could move some things that you don't access on a regular basis to an external hard drvive.  You can also download omnidiscsweeper and see if it finds anything you don't need.  Read this too: http://pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html

  • Yosemite is awful- unable to empty trash, volume options are haywire, error codes on file management, and files won't replace when moved. What are my options at this point?

Like the topic - "Yosemite is awful- unable to empty trash, volume options are haywire, error codes on file management, and files won't replace when moved. What are my options at this point?"
I installed this OS, and it looks nice, but it's terrible to use. I randomly have the volume controls get disabled, and sometimes the volume menu in the system tray does nothing when adjusted which I've never seen in an OS before. The trash won't empty. When I try to drag and drop newer files over existing ones, nothing happens. The old ones just stay there. I have to delete the old ones and then move the new ones. And when I go into the protected files to manage audio plugins (I make music), the first thing I hit are error codes galore, and password prompts that either don't popup when they should, or don't execute the command after I provide my password.
What can I do now that I installed the flames of **** onto my computer?

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Changing HDD to SSD, what are the options?

hi, guys, new to the forum, I just bought a thinkpad x130e during an on sale event at one of the local retailer, pretty excited, since i like the rugged design.
I am looking at an upgrade from 320G HDD to a 128G SSD... but i don't have any windows 7 installation disc handy, so what are the options for me to install the operating system (windows 7).
I don't know if there is a way to transfer the whole system from HDD to SSD? will there be any trick to perform? or simply i just have to purchase new copy of windows?
cos i noticed i do have a windows7 pro product key at the bottom of my thinkpad, i kinda don't want to waste the money.
    please help..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You don't need to purchase another copy of Win7. You will need
    1. SSD. This must be 7mm thick, not the more common 9.5mm thick.
    2. USB enclosure for your HDD,
    3. Software to "clone" the contents of your HDD to your SSD. Acronis True Image is a well-regarded package that does this. There are also some free utilities that can do this, however, I'm not familiar with them.
    Procedure:
    1. Move the HDD to the external enclosure.
    2. Put the SSD in the X130e.
    3. Reboot from the HDD. (You'll need to interrupt boot with Blue ThinkVantage button to specify.)
    4. Install Acronis (or equivalent.)
    5. Perform disk clone operation. You will need to tell the software how you want to resize partitions since you're going to a smaller disk.
    6. Reboot from SSD.

  • G4 with not boot with Tige- what are my options

    I have a PowerMac G4 500MHZ with a newly installed 120GB ATA drive and 1.5GB of RAM.
In the last few weeks, I have tried all of the following.
I installed OS9 on the new drive. I performed all the updates to 9.2.2. I made sure all software was updated, and my firmware was current. I have the old DVD-RAM drive, which did use to read DVD movies, but from what I read on the forums here, it would not be sufficient to boot from the Tiger DVD disc. So, I booted in Target Disk mode to my G5. I used my G5's superdrive to install Tiger on the G4 drive that was loaded on my desktop. Everything seemed to work fine, but after I power down the G4 and turn it back on, I get the Apple logo and spinning gear (as if Tiger is going to load) but that is far as it goes.
I even tried the other way around, I booted my G5 in Target Disk mode to my G4 so I could still use my superdrive to install Tiger. And here is where I think the problem lies somewhere. When I clicked on "Install OSX" and it tells you to restart, it will not boot from the OSX disc. I have a feeling there is something wrong internally with the G4 that is preventing it from booting in OSX, because I was able to install Tiger on the G4's drive when it was in target disk mode on the G5, but it will not boot in Tiger on its own. I also tried installing from an external firewire DVD (Pioneer A4, super) and I get the same thing every time. The only way I even get to go through the Install process is when the G4 is in target disk mode to the G5.
Am I looking at sending this thing in for service? what are my options? I feel like I'm running out of them.
I also replaced the lithium battery in the G4 because another forum indicated that could also be a problem. If I take this to an Apple store for service, what kind of cost am I looking at? I know thats a tough questions as it could be anything. If its the mother board, what kind of cost am I looking at?
    any suggestions are welcome.

"...what do you mean by PRAM rest?"
Sorry that should be "reset" read this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Then do as it says...this fixed the same problem with my daughter's iBook after a Tiger upgrade
"...does that mean just for installation or its fussy period?"
I have had experiences where the installer would crash with the 3rd party RAM installed but run fine with just the OEM RAM in the computer. After installation was complete, the 3rd party RAM was re-installed with not problems...

  • What are my options when Disc Utility says my hard drive is failing?

Before I upgraded to Tiger on my G4 (this morning), I ran Disk Utility, repair permissions. After the Tiger installation, I ran Disk Utility again and got the message that my hard drive is "failing" in red letters, something I have never seen before.
I started up with the Installer Disk and tried to run Disk repair from that, but the red remains and I am prevented from doing a repair.
    What are my options?
(I added this question to another thread, but got a little confused about the answered/not answered option when my message was not accepted as a "not answered." Anyway, John Huber1's response to my original question was helpful. I thought it was better to start a new thread.)

    Power PC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hey, guys.
I ran into a problem this morning that I've never ran into before and I wasn't sure where to write it but I thought this is best.
    Here it goes...
Last night I had a power surge and when I restarted my computer, my external hard drive did not mount on my desktop. I than proceeded with restarting my computer, I relinked all my connections and I cant seem to get it fixed. I have a lot of material on my external drive that I dont have backed up (I know, a stupid move) anyways, I dont want to lose that information. Also, when I open up disk utility, the icon for my external drive is there and the partition I made for my external drive shows up also but the title of my partition for my external hard drive is not in bolded font. I tried to click the button to mount my external drive cause the specs tell me that it is not mounted but when I press the mount button, it does nothing. I than tried clicking the unmount button and than restart my computer and still nothing.
What problem am I facing and how can it be fixed?
    Thanks.

  • So What are our options? conserning dolby d

Well I just found out that we can no longer use the dolby dts thx function on my xfi platinum.
So what are out options? Is their a thread on this? I own powerdvd deluxe, so I can still decode movies. But I cant decode my dolby digital signal from my xbox anymore.? are their any options besides using an external decoder/reciever? Free preferably. I found this site. http://ac3filter.net/? Does this stuff work? Thank you.

I hate to say this but your only choice is to get the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude. It currently supports DD Li've but DTS interacti've support will be out by this quarter. I've never been able to get DTS working on my Elite Pro and I'm not about to buy PowerDVD just to get it partially working.Message Edited by kitsura on 03-29-2008 04:06 AM

  • I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I haven't used it in years, but I would like to start. What are my options for getting it up to date? Is it even worth the trouble/cost? I was hoping to at least get it running Snow leopard, if not Lion. Options?

I have an old Imac G4 from 2003. I would like to start using it again, however it is so out of date and runs too slowly. What are my options to update it? I really don't want to invest a ton of money - I might as well get a new one, so if there are any reasonable ways to get it to run Snow Leopard or even Lion, please help. I've also considered using a mac mini? Is that worth it either? I'm not sure which way to go here. I don't want to trash it, I feel like it can be a great computer if updated.

Presumably it is running tiger 10.4.11?
It may be able to run Leopard 10.5:
    Leopard system requirements:

But that is as far as the old PPC Macs can go, and Leopard can cost up to $200 on Amazon.

  • I'm so screwed....What are my options?

My iPhone fell out of my pocket tonight and almost completely flushed down the toilet....I got it out and now it's buried inside a bowl of rice inside a ziploc baggie BUT....
There are no other phones available right now. It's only been a few hours but I feel sooo lost without it. Its my alarm clock, I listen to it to fall asleep at night, and actually...I'm on vacation and I'm now without my contacts or anything.
What are my options? I'm not a rule breaker so I don't want to get a unlocked one...too scared of "the man". LOL
    Any other ideas out there?
    WWYD?

Is there an AT&T store around? AT&T will sell you a new, standard, bottom of the barrel cell phone for $40.00 that you can return for a full refund within 30 days (plus, there's no activation fee). Apparently, AT&T has a plan in place for those that are without a cell phone b/c of repair issues. I'd just let them know that Apple is currently fixing your iPhone and that they're out of stock and could not give you a loaner iPhone while yours is being repaired. It's worth a shot. Plus, if you're a good customer (been with them for a while, always pay your bill on time, etc.), they should help you out... Hope this helps .

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required.
If you cannot get this information from the seller
Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.

  • What are the options if one iPad was stolen last week and Apple created a bug which the burglar can turn off "Find My Phone"?

Last week, my gf was stolen and lost her iPad. I thought that everything was lost because "Find My Phone" didn't manage to track the iPad location so the police could do something.
Today, I ended up reading this article (http://9to5mac.com/2014/04/03/ios-7-bug-allows-anyone-to-disable-find-my-iphone- and-bypass-activation-lock-without-a-password/) which tells me that the iOS 7.1 presents a bug where someone can deactivate the "Find My Phone" function without the password.
What are the options here so I can rehave the stolen iPad, which Apple helped the burglar to keep it or even sell it?
    Appreciate your cooperation

Apple didn't "help the burgler" do anything. Did she have a passcode on the device? If so, the thief would not have been able to access any of the functions needed to disable Find My Phone. Also, if the device doesn't show up in iCloud's Find My Phone, it may be that it is simply turned off, or not connected to a network.

  • What are some options, in case someone has stolen my device

I need help, my iPod has been stolen, what are some options u recommend me to do, I have tried to located with "find my phone app" but it only tells me is offline, responds as soon as possible

    Not really much
    lost/stolen
    No app is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    iCloud: Find My iPhone
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If off-line/not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order
Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product

That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

  • I still have 1 year left on my contract, what are my options to upgrade?

I have an iPhone 5S that I purchased last October. I still have 1 year left to go before I am out of the contract. I really want the new iPhone 6 Plus, mostly because of the bigger screen. What are my options? I read you can trade-in an iPhone 5S and get $300 credit or it will go towards the purchase of a new phone (iPhone 6 Plus) + 2 year contract. Is this possible? If not, what are my options for ditching this phone? Can you ditch the phone itself (and upgrade it) while still keeping the contract you are currently under? Maybe I can turn in my phone for the credit towards the new phone, and still be 1 year into the contract?
Sorry I find all the upgrade info confusing

In short the only option you have is trade in your 5s for the $300 gift card and the buy the 6+ for $749.99 if you're getting the 16GB model, you won't be able to get the discounted pricing for that phone unless you add a line to your account or you're eligible for an upgrade which as you have said you're not.
