  • Director Player Error?

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem - just occurred since updating to 10.4.6 (using Software Update from 10.4.5).
I have a G5 quad and can no longer play several games that were working fine before updating - I get the following error message:
    Director Player Error
    Handler not found in object
    #play
Script Error. Continue? (no / yes)
Clicking "No" quits the game - clicking yes leaves the game open, but then it's inoperable - nothing works.
I checked already with the games manufacturers - no help there - just the usual uninstall/reinstall which didn't work. I repaired permissions, verified the disk, etc.
I'm not having any other problems (that I've discovered yet anyway) - just this one, but it's annoying because at the end of my workday I like to wind down with a few rounds of some mindless games and a beer.
    Any suggestions?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Well, odd as it sounds, I'm somewhat relieved to find out it's not just me....:)
Note to a brody: the game is the most current download version - and just to be sure, I downloaded another copy of it and installed in on my "test" hard drive running 10.4.5 and it works perfectly - I also re-downloaded it on my G5 that was upgraded to 10.4.6, checked the package contents against the test version to be sure they were identical, and installed it but it just won't run under 10.4.6.
Since I've also made sure that I have the most current versions of Shockwave and Flash installed, I don't think that there is anything else I can do unless SOMEONE puts out a fix (either the game manufacturer or Apple or Macromedia) - I just don't know where that fix will come from since the game manufacturer claims it works fine for him and others under 10.4.6 and almost no one else seems to have this problem.
note to Kathy - yes, by all means if I manage to get this fixed I will let you know what I did!

  • Fail error when opening cd and dvd: 'director player error: internal error: unexpected failure while compositing bitmap 5 of PLAYER-CAST 2'. How do I fix this?

I have a new laptop acer aspire e17, running windows 8.1. I have downloaded flash, shockwave and java. Everytime i try to run an interactive cd i use for study, the error message in the title comes up.
'director player error: internal error: unexpected failure while compositing bitmap 5 of PLAYER-CAST 2'
I have checked that all the browsers on my computer support shockwave (the cartoon is playing on chrome, mozilla and IE).
The interactive cd and dvds work on other laptop, not working on this one.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks.

It will now play audio cds and dvds. The computer asks me what to do with them first. The problem is still the cd i use for study. Its is an interactive cd - it is its own application - clicking on images and animations to teach vowel sounds, sentences etc.
The disc works on my other laptop, which is running in windows 7. All discs are recognised by my windows 7 and 8.1 dvd/cd player/writer, but when the title page for the interactive cd pops up on windows 8.1, the director error message pops up and the homepage shuts down with the message.
I feel like Im sure there is a package or a patch I can download to fix this issue, I just need to know what. Please help.

  • AlertHook and Director Player Error text

I'm using alertHook to catch and log errors in Shockwave.
When it returns 0 the user is also presented with a Director Player
Error alert that includes some additional information beyond what
is passed in the parameters to alertHook. For example, when I
trigger an error by calling a handler that doesn't exist, alertHook
gets the message "Handler not defined" but the Director Player
Error alert includes the name of the handler.
This is important information when debugging. Is there any
way to capture the text in the Director Player Error alert?
I keep a stack trace by popping handler names onto a list,
and save a debug message at the start of suspicious code blocks.
Here's the code for my alertHook():

    Hi,
I use a parent script for exceptions and log and seems may it
    help you.
The first code is a parent script and the second is just a
movie script that ini the exceptions parent script, i hope this
    help.

  • Director Player Error. cays needs Xtra

I'm using a PC with Xp Professional and one of my new applications requires Quick Time. When the program tries to load it comes up with an error Message. Title is *DIRECTOR PLAYER ERROR*.
+This application requires an Xtra (Quicktime) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtra folder(s).+
I've reloaded all quicktime and itunes software and it still comes up. what are the steps to take to find theses 'Xtra" folders?????

The Xtra is a Director component, not something in QuickTime. If a packaged Director application isn't working and is asking for a Director Xtra, then either the developer didn't properly package the Xtra with the application or they're using one that's out of date for the version of QuickTime you have on your system. Either way you'll probably have to contact the publisher of your application and discuss the problem with them.

  • Director Player Error - CD Install for Scanjet 3000 S2

Trying to run the Setup.exe from the install CD received with the Scanjet 3000 s2 on a Windows 7 HP laptop, I get the error "Director Player Error", "Property not found", "#restartEXE".  I've uninstalled and reinstalled Flash and continue to have the issue.  Tried the install on 2 other PCs and they do not have the same problem.  Any idea what is causing the issue?

There is a programming flaw in the original Director file. The problem may be that the projector is unable to access a file and is throwing the Script Error message, or there may be some other unkown bug. Do you have the original code?

  • Director Player Error "The file version is too new"

    Short Question:
When I try to run a projector built with D12 on WinXP, I get a Director Player Error warning dialog that contains the text "Movie C:\Program Files\...\MyProjector.exe cannot be loaded.  The file version is too new."  What could be causing this error?
    Long Explaination:
I am trying to get an old Director 8.5 project to compile into a Director 12 projector with the least amount of work.
This project was built as a D8.5 projector for the client around 2005 for use on Win2000 and WinXP and now they want it to run on Win7.  It uses 3D, several 3rd party Xtras and one custom Xtra build originally with Visual Studio 6.  My client has a team of programmers bringing the custom Xtra up to Visual Studio 2010 standards while I try to get the Director projector to build with D12.
The client wants the application to look and run exactly as it did before.  The only changes we want to make are a few aesthetic logo updates, but that will come later after we get it to run as is under Win7.
The projector uses a lot of externally referenced files including SWF, W3D, WAV, 6 external cast files (CCT) and 3 external movies (DCR files).  All of the ActionScript scripts are compiled into the projector but most everything else is loaded at runtime.  Most of the scripts compiled fine under D12 and those that didn't only needed "scriptExecutionStyle = 9" added to them in strategic locations.  During the projector build I am also rebuilding the 6 external cast files, but I am trying to use all the other external assets untouched.  Unfortunately, this also includes the 3 external DCR files because the source DIR files have been lost over time.
While the other team works on the custom Xtra, I am trying to test my Director updates by substituting my new projector (EXE) and cast files (CST) into a fully functional WinXP installation of the application.  All other files are the old versions.
This seemed like a good testing approach, but when I try to run the projector, I get a Director Player Error warning dialog that contains the text "Movie C:\Program Files\...\MyProjector.exe cannot be loaded.  The file version is too new."  This doesn't make any sense to me since I thought the projector would embed all of the D12 runtime libraries it needed to run.
The first thing the projector does is load and play a splash movie that happens to be one of the old DCR files that I cannot rebuild.  Could this be the source of the problem or is this whole idea of testing by overlaying on a WinXP install flawed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    That's the problem.
You need to update (D12 compatible) or to get rid of those xtras.
I know, it's not an easy task.

  • Director Player Error when using CD

Hello, I was trying to view a CD  but when I click a link in the program, an "Director Player Error" pops up & it says "Script Error. Continue?". YES- then the pop up comes up again. No- Program closes out completely. Please Help! I need to view this CD for class. Thanks! I am using Windows 7, by the way.

  • "Director Player Error" Need help! Simple Script...

Whats up guys, I have some lingo in the first frame of an old
project (interactive CD) that checks for quicktime version 6, as
well as desktop resolution of 1024x768 or greater.
Works perfect and I love the script.
I started a new Interactive cd and figured I'd re-use that
code as I'll need it again. I opened the old project, copied and
pasted the exact same code and now I get an error when I open the
    new .exe.
Specifically it says "Director Player Error: Script Error.
Continue? Yes or No" Yes doesn't do anything except refresh the
    error screen.
The other funny thing is that when I play the project inside
of Director I get no such error or script problem...
Here's the code: (works perefectly in the older project, I
just tested it today and worked like a charm)
    on exitframe
    if quicktimeversion() < 6 then
    go to frame 10
    else
    go to the frame+1
    end if
    if (the DesktopRectList)<[rect(0, 0,1024,768)]then
    go to frame 15
    else
    go to the frame+1
    end if
    end
    Any ideas?

Thanks guys, I'll definetaly have to try adding the QT6Asset
xtra. I'm not too optimistic about that though becuase I never
added that too the older project folders. I know for sure that when
I burnt the old CD's it included just the .exe, the quicktimes, and
an autorun...wouldn' t the CD's have needed that file as well? Is
there some option I have to check? Is that something included in
the .exe or an additional file that needs to be added to the
    folder?
And the same goes for Mark; the old CD didn't have that
    addition and it runs fine.
The real problem here (as I see it) is that it works on CD
"A". I copy and paste to CD "B" and it doesn't work. Isn't that
piece of code written to be versatile?
I opened my old project, re-complied it, and it worked
perfectly so I know it's nothing that changed in my PC (like if I
    got Quicktime 7).
I even grabbed that piece of code and dropped it in a
completely empty Director scene and still got the error...
As I last ditch effort could somebody copy that code into a
blank scene and see if they get that error?
    Thanks!

  • Director Player Error : Handler not found in object

    Hi,
I have made an exe to run a video in Director. This was done using old version of director, 8.5 supposedly.
When i try to run video through this exe, the video plays in background but i get the following error(snapshot attached):
    "Handler not found in object
    # openport
    Script Error. Continue?"
I have installed shockwave player 8.5 and also put all the files from xtra folder to the folder where exe in lying but still i am getting the same error.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Looks like something in one of the scripts in your project that is being called but is not working correctly for some reason.
Without seeing the code it's hard to tell what the problem may be. I'm wondering if there's one of the old-style line continuation characters that may be breaking the #openport handler somewhere in your scripts.

  • Director player error: symbol expected

MM Dir v10.1 for OSX, running on dual G4 with OSX 10.4.11
I have built a Mac OSX projector from a project that works
fine in the authoring environment. I have set Publish Settings to
    include linked casts (only one).
Anyone know what's wrong? It doesn't say (of course) WHICH
    symbol is missing. (Thanks, Adobe).

    > Alchemist - VERY clever!
thanks. that's where the name came from, btw... All those
    alchemistic
    methods
I had to invent to work around director quirks.
    > What a lot of work though, to get around something left
    out of a product
    > for
    > TWENTY YEARS !
Odd as this may seem to you, I never missed such a feature -
    and never
heard anyone requesting it, for that matter. And though I was
    at school
back in 88, from v5 to now is still quite some years. Perhaps
    it has to do
with how my projects are built, but most probably because of
    how close
director's authoring mode is to the final output.
    > Come, on, Adobe. Wake up and smell the coffee !
If I had to blame someone, that would be macromedia, not
    adobe - until the
next version at least (yep, I'm up for the bet).
Since v8.5, I was expecting some more advanced
    functions/objects. More
system and network functions, a turn of orientation from
    multimedia
authoring to application developing. And when I got fed up
    with waiting,
well, I started working on my "Director Pro" approach. New
    objects, new
engines, all packed in a tiny Xtra. Though the first version
    will be Windows
only, if you do have a pc or your machine can bootcamp in
    windows, I'd
certainly be interested in a beta tester with such a history.
    Regards,
    Harris.

Update your Flash from Adobe's website.   If that doesn't work, tell the webmaster they aren't using a portable version of Flash that is as compatible with as many browsers as possible.
Please don't use all uppercase.  In internet etiquette it means you are shouting.

  • Shockwave player v12 on mac has stopped Director player from working. Why?

Hello. I'm a very longstanding Adobe user, but a complete newcomer to the forum.
My problem? We have a suite of e-learning courses which are built in Flash, but which use a Director player (11.5) to launch them from CD-Rom. The new release of shockwave player (version 12) has stopped our courses working on a mac. We tried rebuilding the player file with Director 12, but this didn't resolve the problem. Can anyone help? Thanks.

    Hi
We are in the same case. Since 1999, we have also built an e-learning suite on CD with Director 5 to 11.5 for Mac and Windows. And now, we have some problems with Shockwave 12 on OSx 10.7.
On Windows 8, there was already an error with shokwave: " L'ordinal 1265 est introuvable dans la bibliothèque de liaisons dynamique IML32.dll "
. It was enough to delete two files: « IML32.DLL » et « DIRAPI.DLL ». See on Adobe site :
    http://www.macromedia.com/fr/support/director/ts/documents/sw10_restart.htm
Per haps, its the same case. We look for a solution...
    Best regards
    Jean-Luc
