Hey, i want to make a quiz in director comprised of a few
simple questions, how do i go about keeping the score, for example
in a variable and then outputting that score at the end with a
message like well done! thanks, any links to tutorials would also
be ace :)

Hi dntel,
There is a quiz template at:
http://www.adobe.com/resources/elearning/extensions/director/sample_mov/
with behaviors for various question types.
If you're hard coding your quiz, all you need to do is create
a global variable for
the score, when you keep adding to it every time you get a
right answer. That
global can be displayed in a text member.
Hope that helps.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro Extended Trial - Export (a) and (b) Quiz Making

(A)to .doc = text in text boxes! Not Wanted! How to avoid this?
(B ) Can I build a quiz right from Acrobat 9 Pro Extended? I cannot find anything on the interface that would allow me to do this but I saw it done?
I'm on a trial but I can aleady see Version 9 Pro Extended is what everyone is going to WANT because of the Adobe Connect, better text editing, easy form creation and data retrieval, and best of all, the Portfolio that wraps your presentation all together and even has built-in templates to boot. Now, how is that for a sales pitch!!
    HEY, IT'S A SATURDAY.

    Aandi,
Captivate is an Adobe product for creating quizzes, simulations and
various other neat things. It used to be called RoboDemo.
    Janet,
You cannot really export from Captivate to Acrobat 9 to get a pdf file.
You can publish from Captivate to Word to PDF. You can use Captivate
to make flash quizzes, that can be imported into Acrobat Connect Pro. I
believe that you can use Presenter to go from Powerpoint to Flash or
Powerpoint to Connect and possibly pdf as well. But since you are
starting in Powerpoint, it doesn't make sense to put presenter in the
    middle of going to pdf.
In Acrobat if you want to avoid text boxes from exporting from pdf go to
    text not word files.
You can generate quizzes in many different software packages and export
to pdf. I use FrameMaker. You can use Word and ID as well. The advantage
in using Windows Word or ID is that if you make form fields, they can
get exported as forms in the pdf. FrameMaker doesn't have that
capability. But between autorecognition and manual manipulation of the
form fields you can get the quiz to look like you want. The advantage of
Captivate is that it allows for branching and connection to SCORM and
learning management systems. The disadvantage of Captivate is that it
makes it difficult to incorporate graphics, equations, etc. If you need
that sort of thing, I think Director is the another Adobe tool to
consider if you want interactive quizzes.

  • Is Director the best software for interactive courseware on CD or DVD?

Wondering if Director is best for this...
    would like to
1 create a user interface-menu, with topic links that the user can jump to and back from (if you are familiar with them, similar to older Lynda.com courses, created with Director)
2 create links embedded in the "page" to other material or animations-videos within the course
3 create cross references and searches
4 create quizzes that can be scored automatically and create links to "problem spot" information based on quiz results
5 create functionality similar to Microsoft's Encarta encyclopedia
6 user having the option of using the course directly from a CD or DVD or from a projector downloaded to their computer
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Well...
I have downloaded all three of the .pdfs that I found at Adobe's site and have been reading the Director 11.5 Help manual. So far, I believe that I would want to export the file as a protected movie (DXR). My problem with all of the help sources is that they all seem to be disconnected, in the sense that they explain this is this and that is that, including the VTC video tutorials for Director 11, as if they are giving a "tour of the software," but what I need is a tutorial that is project-based.
More like a Classroom-in-a-book type of thing, so I can get detailed explainations of...
    a) how to create a user interface (though I can figure out how to do that in other software, such as Fireworks)
    b) how to create the textual content and what the interface holding that content will be and how to format it (size, shape, colors etc.)
    c) how to create a table of contents and index with links
    d) how to create a word search of all text in the "movie" and perhaps including the metadata in videos that will be included in the project
    e) there will be factual content and problems for the users to solve, with links from those problems to detailed solutions...I would like to include a testing and scoring component and based on results a way to suggest where to go to deal with certain difficulties that may arise
Just need a lot more help on how to organize the entire project from the software's perspective and the best ways to do it efficiently. I am not in a position to physically take a Director class, even if there was one near here, it would almost certainly not be in English (I am currently not in an English-speaking country). Wondering why the amount of help - books (no Bible even), even Lynda.com tutorials - on this software is so sparse, considering that it has been around such a long time...could it be because of the speculation that the software is "dead"?

  • Error when posting captivate quiz results

I would like to posting Captivate quiz results to Acrobat.com. I created an account, but when I click Post Results and log in, I get a 'Send' button option. When I select 'Send', the message 'Unknown Error' appears and the results do not get posted.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

I am also still having the same problem, so it looks like this still hasn't been fixed.
Posting results worked fine but lately everyone is getting the unknown error which is embarrassing when you are pushing directors to complete this only to be told it isn't working and wasted their time.
    Sort it out Adobe!

  • Director mx 2004 log in system

    hello
i am using director mx 2004 and i need to create a login and register system where it saves the clients details in a database so they can re login and carry on with the quiz, so would be saving a few details in the database linked to director, it is not going to be a big project only 3 names would be saved in the database, but i have no clue how to start doing this in director mx 2004,
    thanks

You say "database". Do you plan to run the application on one computer only, and allow 3 different users, or do you intend to the application to run on any computer anywhere in the world, but only for the users whose login name and password is stored in a central server on the Internet?
Do you know the login names and passwords in advance, or will these be created dynamically at run-time?
In other words, what is this exercise intended to teach you?
How to work with data in multiple parts (name + password x 3 users)
How to create a database-type of functionality within Director
How to interact with an external database
Clearly defining the questions you have to answer is the first step to finding the answers.

  • Flash quizes

    Hello
I am trying to create a questionnaire and came accross the
flash quiz template. It seems like a perfect solution to what I am
trying to do, but have a quick question from my first look at the
files. I would like to add more than the allowed number of
instrance names (8 at the moment). Is there any way to do this?
I am sure there will be many more questions I have to ask as
I am only a basic user when it comes to components and
actionscript, but all help and knowledge would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the responses.
I had a look at QuizMaker and downloaded a demo,
unfortunately it doesn't seem to be able to do what I need, which
is a shame because it is a nice piece of software.
I am trying to create a questionnaire that has various
question types; pick one from a selection, input text, ranking
answers, yes/no and scale (poor to excellent).
I need the results to be either emailed, stored on a
PC/webspace or entered into a databse (preferably access).
It needs to run as a projector so the users cant close the
file down (on purpose or accidentally) and to send the results once
    the finish button is pressed.
The look needs to be fully customisable, buttons,
    backgrounds, text etc..
To top it all off it needs to be touch screen compatible...
All the solutions I have come across so far seem to be able
to do some things but not others and like I said previously I am
not a whizz at actionscript and programming, but if I had somewhere
to start I am sure it will begin to make more sense.
Perhaps I should look at using director instead?
Any help/advice is always appreciated, thanks in
    advance...

  • Invisible "Movie Clips" in Director

I have been banging my head against the wall trying to figure
out how I would do the equivalent in Director:
In Flash I have a movie with 2 movie clips. 1 clip is a buch
of questions and depending on how you answer them an animation runs
in the other movie clip. To the end user, it looks like one screen
    on the same background.
In Director how do I create a separate timeline
(questions/clickable answers) that effect another timeline
(response animations)? If I use MIAW they have a window boarder. I
would really like it if these 2 timelines were running on a base
timeline where other things do their thing when the quiz is over.
This would be the background with all the other buttons/links.
Possible, impossible, stick to Flash? HELP!

Wow, all of that sounds so much more complicated than 2 movie
clips on the stage in Flash. I would just create a Flash movie and
bring it into Director but here is the complication with that. The
response section has a musical score and a cursor that moves
accross the score with music that will play - well, actually that
isn't the response that is part of the listening portion of the
question that I want in the response area. So the user will be
instructed to listen to a section of music and follow along. When
the music stops playing he can slide the cursor back and forth to
see the music again if he needs to to answer the question that he
is now asked. If he answers wrong, the score will show him why he
isn't right. That is why there will be different responses to
different answers. Now all that coding for the moving cursor and
changing score has been done in director in another part of the
program where the student can listen to the entire piece and follow
along. I don't want to reinvent the wheel in Flash. I want to use
variations on the code that is written in Director.
So can I tell my Flash movie the plays in Director to move to
a mark on the Director timeline according to which Flash answer
they choose. This may be my easiest method.
OR I guess I could just use 2 Director movies. After question
10 change movies. I'm trying not to have a director score that's
1,500 frames. I would need to keep track of several variables
throughout the entire quiz. The more I think I have this solved,
the more I find I'm lost.

  • How can I deal with negative marking in a quiz marking scheme?

I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem I have in developing the 'code' for a marking scheme for an exam in Captivate 8. I would be very grateful for pointers towards a viable solution. At the moment I am just thrashing around.
My background is in C++ and I think part of my problem is in trying to find analogues of functions I would use in that environment. My experience with Captivate is limited to developing fairly simple training courses but now I need to put an existing exam on line, maintaining its relatively complicated marking scheme, which is as follows:
The paper is multiple choice, each question having four statements, one (or at the most two) of which is true. A completely correct answer gets 4 marks so where there are two correct statements each gets 2 marks. So far, so easy.
The difficulty arises from an element of negative marking. If 3 or more statements are selected, the score is 0 marks. If there is a single correct statement and it and an incorrect statement are selected, the score is 2 marks. If there are 2 correct statements and one of them is selected, the score is 2 marks. If an incorrect statement is selected as well, the score is 1 mark.
I had assumed I could use conditional logic and user variables on a slide-by-slide basis to provide a score value and then assign it to the appropriate system quiz variable, but it seems I can't assign values to variables in a quiz slide. That would have been too easy...
So, can anybody advise me on an approach that keeps the advantages of using the quiz framework, including the use of the Review function?
    Any help very gratefully received.

If you use SCORM 1.2 for reporting, negative scores will be converted to zero, because it doesn't allow negative score.
If you want to keep to Review functionality, you need to stay with the default question slides. There are some tweaking possibilities but changing the score is not one of them.
Question Question Slides in Captivate - Captivate blog
Question Question Slides - Part 2 - Captivate blog
I think the only possible way is to use JS, but then you'll not be able to keep the functionality of the Question slides, you are in custom question slides. Plenty of examples of custom questions can be found on my blog as well.

  • Multiple simutaneously logged in users accessing AFP home directories?

    Hi,
Many of our problems are described in this guy's blog:
    http://alblue.blogspot.com/2006/08/rantmac-migrating-from-afp-to-nfs.html
The basic capability we want is to have multiple simultaneously logged in users to have access to their AFP mounted home directory, which is configured in a sane, out-of-the box setup using WGM and Server Admin.
Multiple user access could take the form of FUS (fast user switching), or simply allowing a user to SSH into a machine that another user is already logged into and expect to be able to manipulate the contents of her home directory.
From my extensive searches, I have no reason to believe this is currently possible with 10.4 Server and AFP.
(here's the official word from apple: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25581)
I've read that using NFS home directories will work, though.
I want to believe that Apple has a solution for this by now (it's been almost a year since we first had difficulty), or at least a sanctioned workaround. If Apple doesn't have one, maybe someone else has come up with something clever. I find it hard to believe that more people haven't wanted this capability! (not being able to easily search the discussion boards doesn't help, though...)
    Thanks for your help!

  • [SOLVED] Share Multiple Directories With Samba On Arch Linux and XP

    Hello,
I have had the worst luck so far with Samba, which is far more likely because of an error on my part than on Samba's.
I can only seem to share one directory regardless of how I setup my smb.conf. And worse yet, if I mess with Samba, smb.conf, after the first time I set it up it doesn't work again until I reinstall my OS. Now I'm sure that reinstalling isn't the only option, but I haven't figured out how to make it work again any other way. I've tried uninstalling it, deleting it from the cache, deleting /etc/samba and so on, still can't connect to it from XP when I reinstall it.
I'm running Arch64 and I want to share some directories with a laptop running Windows XP.
I want to share my home folder, but have it accessible from XP only by me, share my mother's home folder, and have it accessible on XP only by her (well actually I guess it needs to be accessible by both, since i'm the admin), share my media-server (a collection of five hard drives where I store movies and such), and have it read/write by both of us. And finally share /srv so I can work on that from the XP computer as well. I think that's all. And I would like to share printers between the two computers. I would also like to access XP files from here.
I've always been able to get the media-server to share, but that's it, nothing else. And it doesn't always work right. It doesn't seem to want to follow sym links, but like I say if I mess with it it will stop working all together. So I'm not sure what to do.
A thought was to instead make a /media/samba-share directory and share that, and inside it have symlinks to my home, media-server, etc. However, that will only work if samba will follow symlinks for me.
Here is the smb.conf I am planning to use at the moment:
    # This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
    # smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
    # here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too
    # many!) most of which are not shown in this example
    # For a step to step guide on installing, configuring and using samba,
    # read the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. This may be obtained from:
    # Many working examples of smb.conf files can be found in the
    # Samba-Guide which is generated daily and can be downloaded from:
    # Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)
    # is a comment and is ignored. In this example we will use a #
    # for commentry and a ; for parts of the config file that you
    # may wish to enable
    # NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command "testparm"
    # to check that you have not made any basic syntactic errors.

Now I wouldn't think I would need to list my home and mom's home seperately, but since [homes] has never worked for me in the past i thought i would give it a try. Does this look like something that would do what I am wanting?
Otherwise I would delete [homes], [media-server], [theavataroftime], [christina], and [server] and replace them with just [samba-share] with all those as symlinks inside that directory as before mentioned.
Anyway, thanks for the help. Any good guide on this matter would be appreciated, I have looked at several, but more can't hurt . Networking isn't my thing so to speak, so please be specific in any explanations. Thanks again.

Well it seems that my trouble all started when I began using the 'printable = yes' option for shares. Since I removed that the troubles seem to have left me.
Does anyone know why that is listed as on option in smb.conf here:
    # A publicly accessible directory, but read only, except for people in
    # the "staff" group
    ;[public]
    ; comment = Public Stuff
    ; path = /home/samba
    ; public = yes
    ; writable = yes
    ; printable = no
    ; write list = @staff
As well as in a few other examples if it doesn't work? I seen the example and assumed that option was needed to print from those shared directories.
Also, it seems that the comma is not needed between the 'valid users' names.
Also, I guess it wasn't Windows XP's fault either but rather my own ignorance. I like the idea of blaming Windows better though.....
I hope this servers to help others to aviod my mistakes.

  • How do I only get certain questions appear in the quiz results?

I have created a course through Captivate 6, throughout the course there are questions to guage the learners attention. There is also a quiz at the end. However, captivate includes on the questions throughout the course on the quiz results which I do not want to happen.
Can anyone advise how I can only get certain questions appear on the quiz results please?

Branch aware turns off the playbar in 6 (not in 7 any more, at least not for me).
Could you explain more in detail what you want, because I don't understand it. You want the user to answer all questions, but the score should only show what? If you don't want some questions to have a score added to the Quiz total, you can indicate that in the Properties of that Question slide.
And please, tell the exact number (3 versions of 6), and also if you have to report to a LMS?

  • I am unable to insert frames in the Director timeline via the menu pulldown.

I have been using Director in my career since 1990 and have taught it at the college level. But in my newly purchased version 12, I am unable to insert frames in the Director timeline via the menu pulldown. Unfortunately this was after I couldn't get it to open up in the first place, giving me the error message Ive pasted in below. Creating a new user login on the same Mac Pro (10.8.2), it will now open - but I can't insert frames in the timeline. Everything else works great though!
Not to bore you, but this is the long-time interactive project I began decades ago that I work on daily now that I am retired as a 100% disabled veteran:

Having used the greatest multimedia application on earth for so many years, I want to thank Adobe for so kindly keeping Director alive after too many years of not knowing if 11.5 was going to be the last version. Thank you, thank you, thank you

    Hi Milky_au!
I appreciate your response. I believe I've discovered what the problem is with not being able to insert multiple frames from the pulldown menu - and it appears to be a limitation in Director's score that'll actually be easy to avoid as I continue building my project.
My background sprite channel and ten other channels I was using for navigation buttons had stretched well over six thousand frames (undoubtedly from a lot of copy and paste between DIR files of reused sprite channels over the past eighteen years that I've been working on this personal project that's been as much fun as using Director) while the sprites for the rest of the project had only reached just under three thousand frames.
On the phone with Rajeev Saini at Adobe for a good half hour with him in control of my screen to test what I had done, he had discovered that a new DIR file had no problem inserting frames via the pulldown. Although the Command+] shortcut would still add one frame at a time in my working DIR, I wasn't seeing that as a viable solution to my wanting to add, say, a hundred frames in one shot so I could build an animation in that area of the score.
I deleted three thousand frames that were being used by the background and those ten navigation buttons - and now inserting frames via the pulldown menu works exactly the way its supposed to now!
I can now see that I have to keep an eye on that background and those button channels so they don't grow so far beyond where I'm actually building my project.
I will pass this on to Adobe because it does seem like there's a definite limitation in the score. Luckily, that's easy to work around.
Thanks again Milky_au for your kind response!
    Gary

  • PhotoShop CC 2014 - Blowing Directories on Hard Drives - Should Ship with a free Version of Disk Warrior ;-)

Since installing PS CC 2014 I have had serious problems.
Problems one could expect from a 'new' software.
However, having my drives' directories damaged due to Scratch Disks is something I have never seen before.
I had PS use an SSD as Scratch Disk. As this became full, I assigned another scratch disk (This time a RAID0).
As it ran full (200GB of PS Scratch) All the other files on that drive vanished. And photoshop was no longer able to even save the current document
(event though the destination had enough space avail.) See screenshot:(Watch the finder status in the back, the doc to be saved was 200MB and my disk had 3.38 GB avail.
But PS would not let me save due to scratch disks full)
Anyway, back to the serious problem. The RAID0 scratch disk, after I quit PS, was not longer mountable.
Trying to repair it with DU reported:
    And trying with terminal This:
    ** /dev/rdisk13
       Executing fsck_hfs (version hfs-226.1.1).
** Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    ** Checking extents overflow file.
    ** Checking catalog file.
    ** Rebuilding catalog B-tree.
    CreateNewBTree returned -34
       Disk full error
So I went ahead and did some research and found Disk Warrior.
It was able to rebuild my catalog and I am up an running again.
But having to spend $99 on a PS bug is not so nice. I have been able to recreate this problem 3 times the past hours.
The problem occurs only when PS is using the RAID as Scratch disk. If I try to fill the drive by writing to it via terminal or Finder,
i just get a Disk is Full. PS on the other hand will blow the catalog and make the  disk unmountable...
    Any Ideas ?

Thanks for your reply, Chris Cox. I've checked the Windows System Event Log and here are the details:
Details (Tab) of same error (Photoshop)
I noticed since Jan 5, 2015, Photoshop has crashed a lot. I run Adobe Illustrator with it but it doesn't give the same errors. Other applications run fine too, so I'm not sure if it as you mentioned that it is the "system" that is crashing so often.
(You seem to have suggested a video card upgrade. I will work on that next. Thanks)
I hope you or anyone who can, help me with this problem with Photoshop and the issue with my account in Creative Cloud.
Looking forward to your help. Thank you.

  • Link to directories containing index.htm

I've got a question that I've been trying to figure out for
some time. I'm fairly well versed with dreamweaver, but some of the
server stuff is a bit hazy to me.
    Question:
Within dreamweaver, if I link to a subdirectory that has an
index.htm page in it, the url explicity shows the page name (i.e.
mysite.com/downloads/index.htm). I want to make the links look like
    this: mysite.com/downloads/
Now, while I know that this kind of link works fine once the
site is on the server, when I navigate pages on my local copy of
the site, the link simply opens the directory in an explorer
    window.
So, without a solution, I either have to choose: working on a
broken site locally that will work fine on the server, or just
explicitly link to the htm files in each directory - I've chosen
the latter, but it's BUGGING me!
    Extra Info:
I currently edit all my websites locally with dreamweaver and
then selectively upload files with another ftp client. My reason is
that many of these websites that I work on are live and I don't
want to be uploading files that I've just modified, but have not
tested, b/c I might have accidentally fudged something.
So, how can I configure my environment such that all links to
directories containing index.htm file, open the file correctly both
    online and locally.

As to why Explorer is opening, I haven't a clue, but I also
    oftenwant
to link to /subfolder/index.htm. I point to the file in DW,
    then strip
    out the filename, leaving /subfolder/.
