trying to find where i can download the latest version of this (im installing the dir sync component) and any latest patches.
how do people rate the quality of the instalaltion doc for this? ive heard several bad thigns and just want to check if anyone has a more recent accurate install doc :)

Solstice enterprise agent and Sun Mgmt Center

Is anyone familiar with a way to convert a sub-agent developed with Solstice Enterprise Agent and APIs into a Sun Management Center sub-agent? I have a MIB as well as source code for the stubbed code generated by mibcodegen. ... Not sure if this is totally useless at this point and I have to start from scratch.

The MIB files are located under /var/snmp/mib , as for the OID i can't remember.. but if i remember i can check some old documents which i should have somewhere (unless someone else manages to answer first ;-)
As to the snmpwalk problem, ensure that you have the latest patches, i recall there being a snmpwalk <-> EA bug. It might have been in Solaris 9, but it might also have been in an earlier release.
Anyway, the latest Enterprise Agent patches are always good for security reasons.

Ipod cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

I have recently had to reload windows xp home edition on my computer and wanted to connect my ipod to load some new music. As it was a new installation the ipod was not recognised. I loaded to latest version of itunes that I have just downloaded and was asked whether I wanted to sync my ipod with this computer in which case I would lose everything that was on the ipod. I choose yes to sync to the new computer but got the error message "the ipod "ipod" cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". I simply recharged the ipod and continued to use it for a day but then it just ran through the tracks without playing anything until it came to the end of an album and returned to the main menu.
As I cannot play anything I wanted to restore and reload but cant. Could anyone offer any help ? Thanks

I have just managed to connect my ipod through itunes to restore it. However when I tried to connect it to the wall socket to complete the update nothing happens. I have checked the fuse in the plug and that is okay, but the ipod does nothing, not even a light on the display when connected. It seems to have locked up. If I hold it close to my ear I can hear a gentle hum. Also the ipod is not showing up in windows explorer.
Any suggestions ?

After I tried reconnecting my ipod to my computer, the message "The iPod cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." popped up in iTunes and it wouldn't let me access any of the songs on my ipod. I ejected it and checked the ipod, and all of my songs were still on there, but whenever I try and connect it to iTunes the same message pops up and when I go to the music list, nothing is there, though it states 3 GBs of space is being taken up (the amount of space my songs use).
I figured the problem might lay in iTunes and not my iPod, but while there was a problem and I did manage to fix it, the newly downloaded iTunes still gave me the same message as before.
I figure I could try reformatting the iPod, since it looks like that might solve the problem, but I don't have any of the songs on my iPod backed up, so I was hoping someone might be able to offer another solution. =/
*To sum things up: songs are still on my iPod and I can listen to them after ejecting, but syncing up to iTunes is no longer possible (so no new music ;_; ). Problem most likely isn't with iTunes and I'd prefer not to reformat the iPod.*

Active Directory 2003 and Sun One Directory Server 5.2

I just installed Sun One Directory Server 5.2 on a Linux machine. I want to configure LDAP on that machine so that it can be authenticated on Active Directory 2003. How do I go about doing this?

Active Directory server is a "directory server" (and kerberos server.) If your linux client authenticates against Active Directory it doesn't have to involve the Sun Directory Server at all. You have several general approaches you could investigate:
1. Linux client gets accounts and and authentication via LDAP from Active Directory
If you use AD to handle unix LDAP authentication (opt 1) you may need to extend schema in AD to add the unix password field. I haven't tried it yet, but hope to.
2. Linux client gets accounts from AD LDAP and authorization from AD Kerberos.
There should be docs on support.microsoft.com on enabling kerberos support for non-Win clients.
3. Linux client (with samba client installed, with winbind or pam_smb to support unix level services) gets accounts and authentication as a "Windows" client from Active directory "Windows server"
Check the samba.org docn or forums- I think this is a pretty common solution.
4. Linux client gets account information from Sun Directory server but uses kerberos (against active directory) for authentication.
There should be docs on support.microsoft.com on enabling kerberos support for non-Win clients.
5 Linux client gets account and authorization from Sun Directory server, which the sun Directory server configured to use Active Directory as a Kerberos server.
Probably incredibly complex.

Confused between Netbeans and Sun Studio Enterprise

Hi all,
Acually I am very confused between Netbeans and Sun Studio Enterprise/Creator.
Why sun did not concentrate on one IDE as Microsoft is doing with Visual Studio?
Now, I do not know what to learn....Netbeans or Sun Studio !!!
What make me more confused is that both are supported oficially by Sun. And both are free for SDN members!!!!!
So, what is the difference???!!!

How do you setup a user mobile account, with the home directory stored locally and not synced to the server?

I want to be able to setup a user mobile account, with the home directory stored locally and not synced to the server. What is the best way to do this? I am running Server 10.6 with 10.6 clients. Open Directory will be used to authenticate and manage preferences. Also, this one account will be used simultaneosly in a computer lab setting, so files will be stored locally in the client, hence the need to NOT sync to the server. Any Ideas?

Can I use the studio to create ejb diagrams?
If so, can I use the studio to reverse engineering existing ejbs and create these diagrams?

Can you clarify what you mean by EJB diagrams. You can create class diagrams that have model elements that represent EJB objects.
The UML tool has support for design patterns. We have a couple of design pattern catalogs that provide some EJB support. You can even graphically create you own design patterns.
The UML project will also reverse engineer Enterprise projects and create a UML model. With the UML model you can create UML diagrams.
Can you give me any information about EJB support that you would like to see in the UML tool?

Project Server 2010 - Active Directory Enterprise Resource Pool Synchronization limitations

Greetings again.
I have a quick question about the limitations of Active Directory Enterprise Resource Pool Synchronization. Specifically, what has your experience
been with extremely large numbers of users (10k plus). Is anyone aware of a
practical limit of users in your AD group you would recommend when using the
Schedule Synchronization feature on a nightly or weekly basis?
There is a caveat to this question however. The client has decided (perhaps for some misinformed reasons) to allow access for every user, to every
project site, within their PWA environment. They’ve selected the View Project Site option within the
Categories for the Team Members PWA Group for which 90% of their intended users reside. So when we ran a couple test syncs in DEV with a smaller AD group of about 8,000 users, the sync understandably
lasted upwards of 18 hours. Obviously unacceptable for a PROD environment on a nightly basis and not necessarily ideal for a weekly sync either.
Experience in addition to documents like these, “Best
practices for managing a large number of resources in Project Server 2010” tell me that we are way over the practical limit of a scheduled resource pool synchronization...IF
the client really desires that all users access all their sites. But before I submit my recommendations, I wanted to check with the community just in case others may have found a way to synchronize large numbers of users (10k plus) on a nightly or weekly
basis, within a reasonable time frame AND allowed all users to access all sites within PWA.
What do you think?

Hello Hrishi.
My delayed response has been due to a large amount of testing we have been performing on this particular topic. Here is an update, please feel free to provide feedback.
We went back to testing and spent more time reviewing the documents:
Best practices for managing a large number of resources in Project Server 2010 and
SharePoint Server 2010 capacity management: Software boundaries and limits. Our team interpreted those documents as saying, 1,000 security
scopes per site is a recommended limit. It does not say it’s a hard limit, just a recommended limit. “When the recommended unique security scope boundaries are exceeded, performance issue can occur.”
So we decided to perform some tests (31 in total) to try and get a gage of what we are seeing.
We needed to establish a baseline first. So we performed a series of 23 Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronizations with various settings in a clean, Out of the Box, environment in order to see some consistent numbers. Here is it’s summary:
Our AD group of 8,000 users took about 32 minutes, on average, every time to sync. The difference between the first sync and last sync differed only by 1-3 minutes.
Adding 40 project sites increased the average sync time from 32 to 120 minutes.
Adding 100 users to each of those 40 project sites, did not increase the sync times.
One setting (identified at this time) reduced the synchronization time. It was the
Project Site Permissions check box found within the Project Web App > Server Settings > Project Site Provisioning Settings area. By deselecting this check box we reduced or synchronization time back to the 32 minute
average.
The View Project Site check box within the Project Web App > Server Settings > Manage Groups > Team Members group had no apparent effect on the sync times besides what we had gleaned from the Microsoft documentation.
Naturally, this left us with a problem. As I’m sure you know, by deselecting the check box (Project Site Permissions), our project sites are now (figuratively speaking) orphans with no connection to the parent site. This generates
a new set of issues. For example:
Newly created project sites cannot be accessed by the owner and team members. They will require someone like the farm admin to come in behind them and add the intended users to the project site along with their required permissions.
All current and futures sites will no longer have users added via the standard method of building a team and publishing the project, but will have to be added manually.
You can use the Synchronize option found within Project Web App > Server Settings > Project Sites page, but that kinda defeats the purpose. It would require constant updating on a per site basis to keep up with
PM changes. Not very sensible, but it does work.
With this baseline information, we moved our tests into our DEV environment which somewhat mimics our PROD environment. This environment has 352 project sites and we performed 8 tests. This is where we had some large sync time numbers.
Here is the DEV test summary:
With the Project Site Permissions check box cleared, our AD group of 8,000 users took on average 30 minutes to sync. This was in line with our baseline times. With the exception of one test sync that took 99 minutes to complete.
That anomaly is acquiescent with what I’ve seen over the years. Sometimes syncs do some unusual things.
With the Project Site Permissions check box selected, our AD group of 8,000 users took on average 690 minutes (11.5 hours) to sync. Unacceptable of course.
So here’s what we’ve learned when dealing with extremely large numbers of active directory users in your Resource Pool sync:
We did not see a decrease in subsequent sync times after the initial Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronization as some might expect.
Our attempt to decrease sync time via the option of removing the View Project Sites was not successful. (Unless we interpreted Microsoft's document incorrectly.)
However, our interpretation of the recommended software boundaries and limits of SharePoint Server 2010 as it pertains to security scopes per site at 1,000, appears to be correct.
Using the option of clearing the Project Site Permissions does produce a reduction in AD sync time, but at a cost segregating your project sites and thus the creation of new processes of maintaining them.
I’ll remind others that these results are particular to our environments, there may still be exceptions yet to discover. Others may see numbers contrary to ours.
The biggest surprise to some members on our team (myself excluded) was that we did not see a reduced sync time after any of our initial syncs. Some are under the impression that after your initial sync, you should see reduced sync times. I haven’t
found that to be the absolute case in all situations, just in some situations. The reason for this still eludes me. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I’ll let this sit a bit longer, but if no one disagrees with the results, I think we have our answer:
The number of project sites directly affects your Active Directory Resource Pool Synchronizations if you are using the
Project Site Permissions option. If you plan on synchronizing over 1,000 users
and you have a large number of project sites, proceed with the knowledge that you may have performance issues and long sync times.
As always, I’d love to hear from you or others just in case I’m missing something.

Deploytool not deleting fields in ejb-jar.xml and sun-cmp-mappings.xml

Java(TM) 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition 1.4 SDK Developer Release deploytool
This situation was found on a simple, but original application using CMP EJB's. The database is MySQL using numeric id's and foreign keys.
I changed some fields in the database and went through the usual 14 attempts at getting deploytool to recognize a new schema without success. The one thing that is noticed is that when I tried to open the CMP display in the Entity selection the tool would not show any data, also it appears to lockup; however, if you select EJB in the choice box of the upper left you can get the view to close.
In desperation (mind you decoding machine generated XML is NOT my favorite activity) I looked at the descriptor viewer and notice fields existed in the descriptor that were deleted in the database. The tool had read the schema because the new fields were also present.
In sun-cmp-mappings.xml the old <cmp-field-mapping> definitions were still present. and in ejb-jar.xml the <query> and <cmp-field> were still present.
After deleting them out -- happy, happy, happy, joy, joy, joy. Deploytool accepted the new schema (keeping all the proper old stuff correctly. yea!!!) and a simple create mapping process brought the beans and database into sync.
I didn't want to report a bug, since I am actually new to EJB's so if anybody wishes to comment please do. I just wanted to provide a heads up in case this was something not noticed.
BTW I'm a recent expert at EJB's anybody got a job? :-)

Have you tried to unmap your fields and relationships?
Go through all your enterprise beans in the CMP Database window and click Unmap All until the Persistent Field Mappings table is empty of mappings. Then click Create Database Mappings, select the new schema, and verify the fields and relationships were mapped. This should clear out any old field mappings.

New to J2EE and SUN development tools

Greetings:
I'm confused. I recently purchased the book "Enterprise J2ME" where the first sample app (iFeedBack) requires a J2EE-compliant server. Regarding deployment of this application, the Java Web Services Developer Pack engine is also mentioned. Here is the text regarding the iFeedBack app that I want to build and deploy:

"The application download package has three subdirectories, each containing an application component. You can ust the ANT build.xml script in each directory to build and deploy the component.
Directory surveyserver contains a sample survey server application. After running ANT, a file bin/iFeedBackSurvey.ear is generated. It can be deployed to any J2EE-compliant server (J2EE v1.3 RI is tested). If this is the first time you deploy it, you need to run the sql/Init.sql script against your default database.
Directory singlesignon contains an example single sign-on toke service. Currently, all usernames and passwords are hardcoded into the source code for simplicity. Obviously, in real-world development, it must be hooked up with campus identity databases. File deployable.war is produced by the ANT script and can be deployed to the Java Web Services Developer Pack v. 1.0 engine."
My question is this: I thought I could download the Sun Studio Creator to get the Sun App Server to run the server portion of this code on my Mac OS X environment. But then the text above also refers to the JWSDP engine. So what tools do I really need and what are the distinctions and how do the following tools RELATE to each other?:
- Sun Java Studio Standard 5 update 1
- Java Web Services Developer Pack 1.5
- Sun Java System Application Server
Am I correct in assuming that the Sun Java Studio contains both the Application Server as well as the JWSDP? Also, what is the difference between Sun Java Studio Creator and the Sun Java Studio Standard?

Creator is a drag-and-drop IDE for creating web applications (servlets, JSP, JSF). Studio Standard/Enterprise is a traditional general purpose IDE. Both Creator and Standard/Enterprise are built on NetBeans, the open source IDE.
The Java Web Services Developer Pack is a distribution for creating web service-enabled web applications, and is built on Apache Tomcat. The technologies included in the JWSDP are also included in the J2EE SDK/Application Server 8/8.1 PE. The J2EE SDK/Application Server 8 is a full J2EE 1.4 server. Some versions of Studio 5 are bundled with Application Server 7 PE, a J2EE 1.3 server. I don't believe the JWSDP is bundled with Studio 5.
Application Server 8 PE is bundled with Creator.
If you are doing enterprise development, look into NetBeans 4.1 EA, which has a plugin for Application Server 8/8.1 PE and templates for web applications and session enterprise beans.

Active Directory Enterprise Resource Pool Synchronization

I'm running in to an issue with Project Server 2013 that has me pulling my hair out. A co-worker and I switched it over from SharePoint Permissions Mode to Project Permissions Mode and are trying to set up AD Enterprise Resource Pool synchronization.
I go in to Server Settings --> Operational Policies --> AD Resource Pool Synch and try to add 1 to 5 groups. The groups resolve (actually autocomplete) and appear correctly. If iclick Save or Save & Synchronize Now, nothing happens.
No page refresh, no redirect, etc. If I go in to Security Settings --> Manage Groups, I can edit one of the built-in PWA groups and add the AD group, click save, and get redirected back to Server Settings. But then going back in to the newly
edited group, the AD Group field is empty; and on the Manage Groups page the "Active Directory Group" and "Last Sync" columns are empty.
I would chalk this up to an AD issue, but I have no problem using the same account to add an individual user as an Enterprise Resource and tie it to an AD account, so I can only assume that this account has all of the permissions required for AD and it can
query and resolve fine. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on, or possibly some step I might have missed when setting this up?

I know it looks like a different issue, but that is the only thing logged in ULS regarding Project Server at the time of trying to do the sync. If it helps, I can provide another log and see if something else comes up, but I did watch the ULS Viewer
at the time and the same errors kept popping up when trying to do the sync.
Also, the "other environment" is just a second instance of PWA on the same SharePoint farm, so it's not a separate environment completely. Using the same AD groups, so there shouldn't be any discrepancies. It's not the best test I know,
but I'm still in the middle of setting up an AD test environment and trying it from there, just to see if it's an issue with my SharePoint installation or PWA installation.

Help for Installing PHP and Sun One Web Server

Hi
I tried to install PHP 5.1.4 and Sun One Web Server 6.1. I am not able to complete this and got stuck. All the available materials in net seems to flow above my head.
It will be very helpful if someone could let me know the step by step configuration a bit brief for the same.

I am following these steps,
1st step : Installing PHP on the WindowsNT server (NT users only)
Copy the php files on your server
Get the php zip file
Copy the php files under a directory (for example : d:php4)
(be careful don't use c:Program Filesphp because of the space between Program and Files
copy php4ts.dll to c:winnt and msvcrt.dll if you don't already have it on your system
Edit php.ini-dist
rename php.ini-dist to php.ini
Edit php.ini : Indicate in which directory you have copied youre php files. (extension_dir = d:php4extensions ; directory in which the loadable extensions (modules) reside.)
copy php.ini in winnt directory (php.ini is parsed in my config)
Matthias Kramer told me that he had to move php.ini to <path-to-netscape-server>/https-servername/config for it to be parsed
Make a file association under Windows NT
In a DOS Window, type assoc .php=PHPScript
ftype PHPScript=d:php4php.exe %1 %*
Test the 1st step
Create a C:test.php file with a single line like <? echo("Nothing to write"); ?>
Create a C:test.bat file with 2 lines test.php
pause
double-clic on test.bat
If you see something like X-Powered-By: PHP/4.0.3
Content-type: text/html
Nothing to write
then the NT association works!!
2nd step : Configuring Netscape Enterprise Server or iPlanet for PHP4 with nsapi (NT & UNIX)
Unix users only
Compile PHP as follows: ./configure --with-nsapi=/usr/local/netscape/server4 --enable-libgcc
make
make install
Add LD_LIBRARY_PATH=<libdir> to your Netscape server startup script
where <libdir> is the full path to the directory where libstdc++.so.2.10.0 is located (usually /usr/local/lib)
Add a mime-type to the Netscape Server
In the Netscape Administration console chose Preferences|Mime Types
Add a new type called magnus-internal/x-httpd-php for exts=php

Make a copy of obj.conf located in: <path-to-netscape-server>/https-servername/config
Modify obj.conf
There are several section in obj.conf
At the end of the Init section of obj.conf (necessarely after mime type init),
place this two lines For NT users
Init fn="load-modules" funcs="php4_init,php4_close,php4_execute,php4_auth_trans" shlib="d:/php4/sapi/php4nsapi.dll"
Init fn="php4_init" errorString="Failed to initialise PHP!"
For Unix users
Init fn="load-modules" funcs="php4_init,php4_close,php4_execute,php4_auth_trans" shlib="/usr/local/netscape/server4/bin/libphp4.so"
Init fn="php4_init" errorString="Failed to initialise PHP!"
In The < Object name="default" > section,
place this line (necessarely after all 'ObjectType' and before all 'AddLog' lines) Service fn="php4_execute" type="magnus-internal/x-httpd-php"
Add a new object called x-httpd-php <Object name="x-httpd-php">
ObjectType fn="force-type" type="magnus-internal/x-httpd-php"
Service fn=php4_execute
</Object>
Restart your Web Server
Test the 2nd step
Put the test.php file in the document root of your server
Then type http://server/test.php
If you can see "nothing to write" in your browser then it works!
AS mentioned in step 1,
I am not getting the PHP message.
I am installing it in my laptop, it has no IP, is that has to do something with this.
Please guide me from here.

IPhone is not being recognised by iTunes and won't sync

A few days my iPhone randomly froze so I had to do a hard reset. Then when I plugged it into my laptop and tried to sync it, it said The required file could not be found. I pressed ok and then another box came up with something along the lines of iPhone could not be synced, error -6999.
So I unplugged and plugged back in and a message came up saying "iTunes cannot read the content of the iPhone. Go to the summary tab in iPhone preferences and click restore to restore this iPhone to its factory settings". So i did this, restored everything to factory and then tried to re-sync with my computer. Then exactly the same error came up as before (file cannot be found, iPhone doesnt sync). And the circle goes on and on and on.
I've tried restarting, re-installing itunes. I think iTunes is working though because I can still sync my nano with no trouble. Any ideas? Because this is really annoying.

I'm having the same problem... just got a new iPhone 3GS in addition to the older 3G model. I need to synch them both with home (music, photos, videos etc. master) and work computers (Contacts, Calendar master).
This worked no problem on the older 3G model, the 3GS synched with my home computer but my work once I get the following message: "iTunes cannot read the content of the iPhone. Go to the summary tab in iPhone preferences and click restore to restore this iPhone to its factory settings".
I've tried re-starting both iPhone and computer, un-installing and re-installing iTunes / QuickTime / Apple Mobile Device Manager etc.; different USB ports etc. and still the problem exists...
Please help.

Check icloud.com to be sure you contact list is correct there. If it is, just go to Settings>iCloud on your device and turn Contacts to On to sync the contacts to your device. If contacts are already set to On and you still see duplicates, you may be viewing a duplicate contact group in addition to the iCloud contacts. Open Contacts, tap Groups, then tap any groups other than iCloud to uncheck them, then tap Done. See if the duplicates are still there.
