Directory Utility missing in Mac Os X lion

Hi there,
I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch core i5 processor machine. It was pre-configured by my school(my 1st year using this bloody restricted thing)
I am VERY ****** off as the "good stuff"(sharing.prefpane, Directory Utility) was in the user account that i could not see.
I WANT IT BACK! If possible, help me with cracking the firmware password as i want to use boot camp.

Oh yes it is a late 2011 model.

  • Missing Mac OS X Lion Boot Camp Software drivers

    Dear Community,
Having just completed a smooth installation of Windows 7 on my 2011 Macbook Pro, I was quite surprised to see that the wireless and ethernet connections didn't work. The computer did not even find any possible connections and I'm missing Wireless Adaptor or any such sort of devices in the device manager.
Now, my first bet is that I'm missing a driver installation. So after having looked on the internet for some guidance on where to get the drivers, it comes down to me using the installation DVD that's included in the package in which the mac came. But no such DVD came with the package, since Apple has decided not to ship physical DVDs anymore.
So my question is, how do I get these drivers?
I see under //support.apple.com/kb/HT4818#12 that the Atheros 802.11 Wireless, Broadcom Wireless and Marvel Yukon Ethernet are all drivers included in the Mac OS X Lion Boot Camp Software, but then why don't I have them then?
Many thanks for the, hopeful, fine answers!
    Best regards,
    Tim

But everything else got installed and hardware abstraction, Boot Camp control panel and other drivers and services are now present and running?

Usually you need to establish a wired connection.
And it is a problem for some, definitely.
Boot Camp 4.01 or later will enable those devices but you may still need to find appropriate drivers too. I don't know why but audio and graphics are also issues that the user needs to attend to and is not 'spelled out' that you will need those as well.

  • Mac OS X Lion Problems (Sound, Resolution, Missing Partition, and Crashes)

Ohia everybody! So recently I installed Mac OS X Lion (GM) on my Mac Mini. It's been installed for about 2 weeks, but I quickly noticed a couple of problems with it.
    Problem 1 - Screen Resolution:
When I had Snow Leopard installed and I held alt to switch into Windows, the menu that appeared to let you switch partitons resolution was correct. Now it seems to be 800x600. Same thing with the boot screen with the Apple logo. When the actual OS is booted up, the resolution is correct (1600x900). Why is it doing this with Lion and now when I had Snow Leopard?
    Problem 2 - Windows Partition:
Before I installed Lion, I had a Windows partition set up using BootCamp. I was able to see the Windows partition on my Macs desktop as well as my Mac partiton. Now it doesn't show up at all, and when I go to Disk Utility, it shows up as BOOTCAMP, and its greyed off. When I click on it and try to mount it, it just said that it couldn't be mounted. Nothing more. I can still boot into it just fine, but I can't view files, which is quite useful when transfering files between the operating systems.
    Problem 3 - Speakers Buzzing:
On Snow Leopard, when I went to play a sound, the speakers were completely quiet and the sound came out nicely. Now, the speakers will be quiet, and when I get a notification or something, the speakers will have a quiet buzzing sound and will continue buzzing for a few minutes after the sound is over. When I play another sound, they will start buzzing again. It never used to do this before Lion, so I'm sure its not the speakers. Hopefully someone has any info on this because I'm clueless.
    Problem 4 - Safari Crashes:
Last problem! Sometimes on Lion (not on Snow Leopard), if I leave Safari open for a little bit, it will randomly crash. It usually doesn't do it while I'm browsing, but if I'm uploading pictures or videos and I just leave it open, I will come back to my computer and it will say safari crashed.
    Note:
I always keep my computer up to date, and have googled all of these problems before with no help. Hopefully someone get help me fix any of these problems.

So I am not the only one with this issue. The sound of my imac g5 sounds buzzing as well. I am hoping for a fix from Apple soon.

  • Just got a new Mac Mini with Lion - where is the downloads folder in the Window tab that is at the top of the page in Safari?  I used this a lot and really miss it!

I just got a new Mac Mini with Lion - the Window tab at the top of the Safari Browser used to ahve a downloads folder in it along with Activity etc - but it is not there anymore. Any way to get it back or is there another location it sits in?  I used it when I'd copy video info from the activity folder and then paste into the download folder and presto - I downloaded the video onto my computer.  I really miss this capability!

Download activity is found by clicking on the gadget on the right:

When you say hit and miss do you mean sometimes you print a whole document with no problems, or do you mean each document has problems? This is from HP's website for your printer:
Your sig says 10.6.7 but your message says 10.7. So if it's really Lion, this printer isn't officially supported. Elsewhere on HP's site it says updated drivers will be available on your Mac via Software Update. Have you run that recently?

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. You'll need to do it again after each system update that's applied.

  • Lion Directory Utility bugs

The Directory Utility is buggy, specifically when binding to AD domains.
    1) The options to "Create mobile account at login" and to "Require confirmation before creating..." are not working properly.
Regardlesss if these 2 settings are enabled (checked) or not, a new user is ALWAYS prompted to create a mobile account. This is behavior that I do not want. I dont want new users to see this dialog box.
    2) The option to "Use UNC path from AD to derive network home location" appears to always get enabled, even though I have explicitly disabled (unchecked) it. I do NOT want my AD Mac users to mount thier AD home folders at login time.

Sorry I can't help you with your specific problem, but there are lots of logs.  Use the Console app (in Applications/Utilities or from Launchpad/Utilities) to access and search all of them.

And yes, you need LOTS of Internet to get the latest cat. The installer file is just 4.5GB in size, so on most internet connections it will take awhile to download. Once that happens, you will have a choice to install it on top of your existing Lion partition, or onto a different one, that can even be a totally blank one.
Since you probably don't want to redo the wait, be sure to quit the installer as soon as it finishes downloading and starts up automatically. Then save the installer (called "Install OS X Mountain Lion", and found in your Applications folder) onto another disk before going thru with the installation. When it concludes, it will erase itself.

  • SQLDeveloper 3.1 on Mac OS X Lion

    Hi guys,
sorry for reposting, but this is really pressing -- doesn't anyone use SQLDeveloper on Mac OS X Lion?
I have a pretty recent Mac OS X System (10.7.3, today updated from 10.7.2 -- the problem existed there as well) with Java 1.6.0_29:
    localhost:~ bgd$ /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java -version
    java version "1.6.0_29"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_29-b11-402-11D50b)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.4-b02-402, mixed mode)
I installed SQLDeveloper 3.1.0.7.42 on this system and I've encountered the following two problems:
    1. the connections aren't saved. Everytime I delete the ".sqldeveloper" directory in my homedir, SQLDeveloper starts without any problems. I can add a connection, test it, connect to the database and even saving it doesn't show any errors. A "connections.xml" file is generated but empty:
    localhost:~ bgd$ find .sqldeveloper/ -name connections.xml -ls
    1733256 0 -rw-r--r-- 1 bgd bgd 0 Feb 9 17:43 .sqldeveloper//system3.1.07.42/o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.4.37.59.48/connections.xml
If I start the SQLDeveloper w/o deleting the "~/.sqldeveloper" directory I always get the following errors:
oracle.jdeveloper.db.DatabaseConnections DatabaseConnections has no JNDI context so cannot list connections.
oracle.jdevimpl.db.adapter.DefaultContextWrapper Failed to create naming Context for db connections at url: file:/Users/bgd/.sqldeveloper/system3.1.07.42/o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.4.37.59.48/connections.xml
oracle.jdevimpl.db.adapter.DefaultContextWrapper Failed to create naming Context for db connections at url: file:/Users/bgd/.sqldeveloper/system3.1.07.42/o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.4.37.59.48/connections.xml
The connections.xml file remains empty, no matter how may connections I add and "save".
    2. After I make a connection to a database, I try the "SQL Worksheet" option (either by right-clicking the DB Connection or thru the menu "Tools->SQL Worksheet"). But nothing happens (except for the dialog "Select connection" when calling thru the "Tools" menu) -- no new window, no "SQL Workshop" space on the right canvas, nothing.
I've googled the first problem (the second one is pretty hard to "formulate") and, based on the results, I also tried the following:
    - Set the right Java Home in sqldeveloper.conf and sqldeveloper-Darwin.com:
    SetJavaHome /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home
    - tried to add the following lines to sqldeveloper.conf and sqldeveloper-Darwin.conf:
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/api/jaxb-api.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/api/jsr173_api.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../j2ee/home/lib/activation.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/shared/sun.jaxb/2.0/jaxb-xjc.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/shared/sun.jaxb/2.0/jaxb-impl.jar
    AddJavaLibFile ../../lib/java/shared/sun.jaxb/2.0/jaxb1-impl.jar
    - I checked, but there is no ORACLE_HOME variable set on my system
    - Right now the java process looks like:
    bgd 1411 0.0 3.9 3831552 326400 ?? S 6:11PM 0:23.03 /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java -Xmx640M -Xms128M -Xverify:none -Doracle.ide.util.AddinPolicyUtils.OVERRIDE_FLAG=true -Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=false -Dwindows.shell.font.languages= -XX:MaxPermSize=256M -Doracle.jdbc.mapDateToTimestamp=false -Dide.AssertTracingDisabled=true -Doracle.ide.util.AddinPolicyUtils.OVERRIDE_FLAG=true -Djava.util.logging.config.file=logging.conf -Dsqldev.debug=false -Dcom.apple.mrj.application.apple.menu.about.name=SQL_Developer -Dcom.apple.mrj.application.growbox.intrudes=false -Dcom.apple.macos.smallTabs=true -Dapple.laf.useScreenMenuBar=true -Xbootclasspath/p:../../rdbms/jlib/ojdi.jar -Dide.conf="/Users/bgd/Downloads/SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.conf" -Dide.startingcwd="/Users/bgd/Downloads/SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin" -classpath ../../ide/lib/ide-boot.jar oracle.ide.boot.Launcher
Any hints what could be wrong? I'm running out of ideas here...
    Regards,
    Bogdan

    Hello John, hello Brian,
    thanks for the fast answer!
So, I've "cleaned up" the conf files. Now they look like this:
    SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper-Darwin.conf:
    AddVMOption -Dcom.apple.mrj.application.apple.menu.about.name="SQL_Developer"
    AddVMOption -Dcom.apple.mrj.application.growbox.intrudes=false
    AddVMOption -Dcom.apple.macos.smallTabs=true
    AddVMOption -Dapple.laf.useScreenMenuBar=true
    SetSkipJ2SDKCheck true
    SetJavaHome /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home
    AddVMOption -Xbootclasspath/p:../../rdbms/jlib/ojdi.jar
    SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.conf:
    IncludeConfFile ../../ide/bin/ide.conf
    SetJavaHome /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home
    AddVMOption -Doracle.ide.util.AddinPolicyUtils.OVERRIDE_FLAG=true
    AddVMOption -Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=false
    AddVMOption -Dwindows.shell.font.languages=
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
    AddVMOption -Doracle.jdbc.mapDateToTimestamp=false
    IncludeConfFile sqldeveloper-nondebug.conf
The properties in "About SQL Developer":
    sun.boot.class.path     ../../rdbms/jlib/ojdi.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jsfd.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/classes.jar:/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Frameworks/JavaRuntimeSupport.framework/Resources/Java/JavaRuntimeSupport.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/ui.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/laf.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/sunrsasign.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jsse.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jce.jar:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/charsets.jar
    java.ext.dirs     /Users/bgd/Library/Java/Extensions:/Library/Java/Extensions:/System/Library/Java/Extensions:/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/ext
It is a new Mac OS X Lion installation, but I've restored my home directory from a previous Mac OS X installation -- it is possible that some "old" files from the old installation (where I've also used SQL Developer, but deleted it) are interfering with the new one.
    Greetings,
    Bogdan

  • Mac OS X Lion Issues

I have recently bought and installed Mac OS X Lion on to my iMac, the issues I have been having is mainly to do with speed, my mac does not seem as quick as it used to be with Snow Leopard. This mainly happens when opening mission control to switch to other windows and apps, and then especially when opening launchpad. Another issue is when I go onto an application like Skype it seems to really lag when making a video call, although this issue had never happened in Snow Leopard. I have tried repairing permissions in Disk Utility, updating all of my apps and freeing up some hard disk space, yet nothing has really seemed to help with these issues.
The specs of my iMac is:
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB
    20 Inch Monitor
    250 GB HDD
This is also the early 2008 model of the iMac.
Any help with getting my mac running at normal speeds would be great!
    Thanks!

I have a MacPro (2007), a MacBook Air (2010), an iPad2, and two iPhones. All have been updated to the current versions of their respective OS's. Everything is working very well. I could not be happier. iCloud is much improved over MobileMe as just one example.
Maybe its the 6 gigs of ram in the MacPro or the 4 gigs of ram in the MacBook Air. Maybe all you guys are short on memory.
    Thanks Apple!
Steve: We miss you man; we really miss you!

  • I've accidentally deleted the System Administrator entry in Directory Utility. How do I recreate it?

How do I recreate the "System Administrator" entry in Directory Utility. It was accidentally deleted.

If you see this article: http://www.stupidlittleblog.com/2011/technology/apple/mac-os-x-lion/mac-os-x-lio n-root-user-sigin-error/#.To_DWOsb6jV
I was having the same root user password login problem.
So I followed the instructions in it, but instead of deleting "AuthenticationAuthority" setting for System Administrator, I accidentally deleted the whole "System Administrator".
Therefore, I'll need to recreate the "System Administrator" entry in the Directory Utility. Maybe you can send me a screen capture of the System Administrator settings so I can try to recreate it. Or else if you know how I can recreate is (maybe from Terminal command line), it will be appreciated.
    Thanks.
