DirectoryServices at 157% on 10.6.1 on Macbook 2,1

Since I've installed SL, The fans on my Macbook (Late 2006) have been out of control. They rarely go off, and the problem seems to be with the DirectoryServices.
I've tried reinstalling the OS, but that doesn't seem to help. How can I remedy this?
Also, Loading up the Applications folder can take upwards of 1 minute.. I click it from the dock, nothing appears.. then beach ball.. then blank Finder window.. then beach ball.. then all the icons appear.. Could this issue be related?

perhaps incompatible SW ?

  • Wakeup to no running apps, but there is one...

    Hey all you power users, here is a totally weird event.
    As usual I closed the lid on the MBA last night, and left it on the couch, as you do...
    This morning I bring it over to the desk and plugin and open lid, only to see my previous nights desktop windows apps etc for about a full 2seconds, before my login from sleep kicks in.
    That was a surprise as I count that as a security breach, my data was exposed for enough time to get something from it.
    However, it gets worse.
    On logging in I found that all the open apps I had had ceased to be open, crashed I presume.
    There was no knowledge of a reboot, I mean it's not possible to reboot in sleep is it
    But... on thinking, man oh man, where'd my code go!!! yes I've been relying on stable sleep for a few years now (doh), I open bbedit which had save my session and some unsaved code phew...
    But then I go to open my Virtual Box, and it states that Debian is running. what?
    So I shell into the virtual machine - sure enough Virtual Box machine is running and survived this catastrophic event. I am shelled in and all services are running so I proceed to let bbedit re-open session and sure enough docs fly open - some untitled ones too!
    btw, there is no indication onthe Dock that I even have a Virtual machine running, only evidence I have is top:
    23735- VirtualBoxVM 8.4 07:53:31 23/1 1 227 629 399M 20M 424M 552M
    23733- VBoxSVC 0.4 14:27.01 12 1 103 129 1776K 13M 2688K 34M
    23730- VBoxXPCOMIPC 0.0 03:22.53 1 0 19 38 200K 3300K 176K 17M
    Finder must have crashed right?
    97050 Finder 0.0 00:02.42 5 1 183 233 8188K 33M 27M 28M
    well what ever happened this is a major problem right?
    What else can I do to find the cause before I really do a reboot to help bug fix this?
    Will re-check here from time to time for any tips on trouble shooting the issue.
    Cheers

    Here is the /var/system.log from the wakeup to suspicious crash/death notices...
    cheers

  • Experiencing "The type or namespace name 'DirectoryServices' does not exist in the namespace 'System' (are you missing an assembly reference?)" compilation error

    I am just starting to implement a new user login authentication process wherein after prompting user for username & password, I hope to authenticate them againts our company Active Directory user data. Since I am just starting, I only have very few things
    done at this point which is how I wanted to work on this so that my development environment is still at its simplest state.
    I am using the following for development:
    MS-Visual Studios Professional 2013 Version 12.0.30501.00 Update 2, and
    MS .NET Framework Version 4.5.50938.
    Here are my project solution's current items:

    C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL\v4.0_4.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a\ folder and that I as well as System have read as well as read&execute privileges
    not only to all folders in its path but also to the DLL file itself.
    I would appreciate any help in trying to resolve this compilation error so that I can proceed with implementing LDAP features for this endeavor.
    Thanks so much,

  • How do I fix: DirectoryServices: Job appears to have crashed: Bus error

    Can anyone help with this problem? The only solution I have found is to erase and reinstall the OS. A reinstall alone will not fix it.
    I have experienced this problem on 3 Macs now, and Apple Care has virtually rebuilt my mini attempting to fix it. However to date, I haven't been able to find anyone at Apple who will look at the data. Here is what appears endlessly in /var/log/system.log:

  • Cannot add Active Directory Domain Services role on - DirectoryServices-DomainController . Status: -2147021879 (80070bc9)

    Hi everyone,
    I've been banging my head against this for a while and hope someone can help me.
     Running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with Service Pack 1.
    When I try to add the Active Directory Domain Services role to the server it gets to about 90% complete and then dies.
    The ServerManager.log shows the following information, I have run the System Readiness Tool - output below - with no errors found.
    At a loss on what to do next. The only other links I've found suggest rebuilding the server which I would really like to avoid...
    Help appreciated,
    John

    Hi John,
    Thanks for posting.
    Performed some research and some results say that this problem can be caused by HD Write Caching.
    To disable Write Caching:
    1. Go to Device Manager.
    2.Click the plus sign (+) next to the Disk Drives branch to expand it.
    3.Right-click the drive on which you want to enable or disable disk write caching, and then click Properties.
    4.Click the Disk Properties tab.
    5.Click to select or clear the Write Cache Enabled check box as appropriate.
    6.Click OK.
    If no luck, Please check if any erros can be found in Event log, Dcpromoui.Log and Dcpromo.log

    Hello,
    I am doing a test lab for dmvpn and I couldn't find out the problem for one of the spoke's isakmp error. The Interesting part is I have done same for another spoke and which has successfully create VPN with the hub. There is no firewall between these two routers or any ACL. I would appreciate for any assist. I have uploaded hub and spoke configuration and the error messages at hub and spoke are given below:

    Hello,
    I am doing a test lab for dmvpn and I couldn't find out the problem for one of the spoke's isakmp error. The Interesting part is I have done same for another spoke and which has successfully create VPN with the hub. There is no firewall between these two routers or any ACL. I would appreciate for any assist. I have uploaded hub and spoke configuration and the error messages at hub and spoke are given below:

  • Migration Assistant fails after showing 157 KB or 0 KB to transfer

    I spent 4 days trying to get OS X Migration Assistant to successfully migrate between two desktop machines, both running Mavericks 10.9.3.
    The two machines were connected by an ethernet cable, and all migrations would fail after 16-24 hours, with the progress bar stalling out at "Less than one minute remaining".
    Before every failed transfer, Migration Assistant would inaccurately show "157 KB selected" for transfer if the "Computer & Network Settings" option was checked, or "0 KB selected" for transfer if only the "Applications" or "Documents & Data" options were checked.
    I finally realized that the migrations were failing because I was opening and clicking through Migration Assistant on both the source and target machines at around the same time.
    The eventual solution was to open Migration Assistant on the source machine first, and click through as far as I could until the source machine was actively looking for other machines on the network.
    As long as I waited until then to open Migration Assistant on the target machine, it would correctly calculate the size of the files to be transferred and the migration would succeed.
    So, the order in which you open Migration Assistant seems to make a big difference: source first, then target.
    My problem is solved, but only after several days of hassle, so I wanted to post this in case other people had a similar issue.
    (I tried many suggested fixes that did not work, included reinstalling OS X on the target machine, running disk repair and fixing permissions on both source and target, changing file sharing on the source machine to include the whole drive, trying to migrate Applications and Documents & Data separately, turning off wifi before the transfer, etc.)

    Thanks for posting this.  I was having the same problem.  You saved me hours, maybe days, of frustration!

  • Problem in work flow Rule 157

    Hello experts ,
    Created organization
    Company
      Hod of department    user-mgr01                        -- level 1
                             Manager             user-mgr03          level 2
                                         Employee 01        user-Emp01      level 3
                                  Employee 02        user-emp02       level 3
                                             Employee 03        user-emp03       level 3
    In work flow I put two decision Step
    1 for manager approval    here I used rule  00000168.
    2 for hod approval           here I used rule 00000157.
    After manager approved  workitem should go to hod . this my scenario
    employee 03   Trigger the workflow based on the rule 00000168 workitem will go to  manager
    It's working fine .
    After manager approved
    Next decision step will executed
    Work Item should go to superior of ( Manager ) that is  Hod of department, here I am using  rule 157.
    but it would go to manager.
    How to solve .
    Regards
    Krishnan R.

    Hi
    Thanks for response .
    here  we should not  assign any hard coded values like position id, organisation id . but the workitem will go to his superior based on the organisation structure .
    i did small mistake ,ok it is working in workflow . when i run the workflow seperately
    i am executing the workflow through web dynpro abap ,
    it getting started and working fine upto manager approvel .
    but HOD approval decision step was not executed .here ( i am using rule 157 )  after approved manager .
    but i specific organisation id instead of using rule 157 in HOD approver decision step of workflow .
    it is working in uwl .
    i want to use rule 157 in decision step of HOD
    but it is not working in UWL .  what should i change
    Please give  suggestion
    Thanks and Regards

  • Planning Layout 8A-157

    I all,
    I would like to find the list of planning layout available on SAP, and especially the planning layout 8A-157.
    I would like to customize it via Report Painter, but I couldn't find it anywhere in the system up to now.
    I tried transactions CJR2, KPF6, KEPM, KP65.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi
    Planning layouts you can find in GRR2.. You cant customize layouts starting with a numeric no... You can copy it, make changes and give it a name starting with Y or Z
    Once you define this form, click on "Create report" button in the form and your report will be created

  • System.DirectoryServices.Protocols.SearchRequest Ldap Query Execution Problem

    Hi,
         I am using DirectorySearcher class to query the active directory. It gives all the records in a single page (more than 5000). I want to get 100 records per page. So I moved to SearchRequest class. Using SearchRequest class I can
    get 100 records per page. But for particular query it is not working. I want to get all the users with their
    "samaccountname or displayname starts with 'a'" works fine. Then I want to get all the users with their
    "samaccountname and displayname starts with 'a'", this it is not working. I can guess the reason, some of the users starts their samaccountname with a not having any displayname. Any workaround for this issue? Please guide me
    Please refer the following code
    //This query works fine
    //string filter = "(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!sAMAccountType=805306370)(|(samaccountname=a*)(displayname=a*)))";
    /* Not works */
    string filter = "(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!sAMAccountType=805306370)(&(samaccountname=a*)(displayname=a*)))";
    LdapConnection connection = new LdapConnection(serverName);
    string[] attribs = { "samaccountname", "displayname" };
    // create a SearchRequest object
    SearchRequest searchRequest = new SearchRequest
    (scope,
    filter,
    System.DirectoryServices.Protocols.SearchScope.Subtree,
    attribs);
    SortRequestControl sortRequest = new SortRequestControl("samaccountname", false);
    searchRequest.Controls.Add(sortRequest);
    VlvRequestControl vlvRequest =
    new VlvRequestControl(0, numEntries, offsetVal);
    searchRequest.Controls.Add(vlvRequest);
    SearchResponse searchResponse =
    (SearchResponse)connection.SendRequest(searchRequest);
    if (searchResponse.Controls.Length != 2 ||
    !(searchResponse.Controls[0] is SortResponseControl))
    Console.WriteLine("The server does not support VLV");
    return null;

    Your exception condition
                if
    (searchResponse.Controls.Length
    != 2 ||
    !(searchResponse.Controls[0]
    is SortResponseControl))
    Console.WriteLine("The server does not support VLV");
    return null;
    is not correct. Why (?) - if you get back no hits from your query there will be no SortResponseControl because there was nothing to sort. Since your query filter has proved that there were no objects with sAMAccountName & displayName equals
    a* in your AD you will not get back a SortResponseControl.
    A better approach would be to check the DirectoryControls on the SearchResponse for the existance of a VlvResponseControl - like this:
           if (GetControl(sresponse.Controls, new VlvRequestControl().Type) == null)
           { Console.WriteLine("The server does not support VLV"); }
            protected DirectoryControl GetControl(DirectoryControl[] controls, string OID)
                DirectoryControl dcret = null;
                try
                { dcret = controls.ToList().Where(d => d.Type == OID).FirstOrDefault(); }
                catch (Exception ex)
                { ex.ToDummy(); } // *see below
                return dcret;
    * Just for completeness and to explain the ex.ToDummy() thing - it's a custom extension:
        public static class ExtensionMethods
            public static void ToDummy(this Exception ex)
    By itself there's nothing wrong with the filter - it's just unecessarly complicated - just write:
    "(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!sAMAccountType=805306370)(samaccountname=a*)(displayname=a*))"
    Another thing that could be of some interest for you:
    The filter "(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!sAMAccountType=805306370)(samaccountname=a*)(displayname=a*))" uses displayName as index.
    "(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!sAMAccountType=805306370)(|(samaccountname=a*)(displayname=a*)))"; get's translated from the QueryOptimizer on the DC to  ( |  ( &  (objectCategory=CN=Person,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=mfp-labs,DC=labsetup,DC=org)
    (objectClass=user) ( !  (sAMAccountType=805306370) )  (displayName=a*) )  ( &  (objectCategory=CN=Person,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=mfp-labs,DC=labsetup,DC=org)  (objectClass=user) ( !  (sAMAccountType=805306370) )
    (sAMAccountName=a*) ) )  and uses sAMAccountName and displayname as index for the search
    @Richard M. : sAMAccountType=805306370 (0x30000002) translates to SAM_TRUST_ACCOUNT - so I guess your AD doesn't have any trusts established .-)

  • Programs not closing/opening DirectoryService problem?

    Hi all,
    all of the machines we're testing using 10.6.2 are experiencing the same problem at intermittent intervals of failure to launch and close various programs,, safari, terminal, finder windows, etc. When this happens even external ssh connection attempts just hang. (I'll provide a tcpdump if desired).
    When this issue happens the system is somewhat responsive, top still runs, the tail -f on the log files continues to produce output, xrg program reports various system status, etc.
    I'll keep a root terminal ssh-ed in and run 'killall DirectoryService' the system then opens and also closes the waiting programs. I notice that any local waiting terminals start and request a login password.
    When the system exhibits this issue top doesn't indicate any stuck processes, no entries in the DirectoryService.error.log or server.log or /var/log/system.log...
    Our setup uses openldap, and home exported NFS directories. We have had no issue with leopard or prior releases.
    Please let me know what additional info you'd like .. and thanks in advance!

    thanks again for the reply!
    we're not using kerberos. I setup a test ldap server from the ubuntu lts repos without making any changes to the schemas,, pretty much a stock install. I added 1 account and authenticated to it and keep the debuging terminal open and ran dtrace on the osx client. Below is the output when the client was in the problem state. What's interesting is that no calls to the ldap server were made until running 'Killall -9 DirectoryService' ,,, after that the shh session along with all the other programs that were hung resumed normal operation.

  • Persistent search using system.directoryservices.protocols

    My goal is to develop an application in VB.NET that monitors eDirectory
    using an LDAP persistent search. As user objects are added, moved,
    renamed and deleted in eDirectory, the program will construct an event
    notification in XML format and send it to an email account for
    processing by other programs.
    I've tried implementing the above functionality using the now
    unsupported Novell Internet Directory ActiveX control (NWIDir), which
    supports a PersistentSearch method and change notification via a
    DirectoryModified event. But have found that it will only run for a few
    minutes and then crashes either when run in the VB6 IDE or as an
    executable. Since the these ActiveX controls are now unsupported (a
    real shame, since they offer AMAZING functionality and INCREDIBLE ease
    of use), I decided to go with a pure VB.NET solution.
    I settled on using the System.DirectoryServices.protocols name space
    and have tried to implement a persistent search with the following code:
    Dim error_message As String = ""
    Dim ldapcon As LdapConnection = LDAP_Connect(error_message)
    If ldapcon Is Nothing Then
    'Failed to connect to the ldap server.
    MessageBox.Show("Failed to connect to ldap server,
    Exception: " & error_message)
    Exit Sub
    End If
    Dim attributesList() As String = {"cn", "SSN", "sn",
    "givenname", "initials", "l", "ou", "telephonenumber",
    "facsimiletelephonenumber", "title", "description", "uid",
    "logindisabled", "logintime", "passwordexpirationtime",
    "passwordexpirationinterval"}
    Dim ctrlData As Byte() = BerConverter.Encode("{ibb}", New
    Object() {1, True, True})
    Dim persistentSearchControl As New
    DirectoryControl("2.16.840.1.113730.3.4.3", ctrlData, True, True)
    Dim searchRequest As New SearchRequest("o=oes",
    "(&(objectclass=inetorgperson)(cn=*))",
    System.DirectoryServices.Protocols.SearchScope.Sub tree, attributesList)
    searchRequest.Controls.Add(persistentSearchControl )
    Dim asyncCallBack As New AsyncCallback(AddressOf
    PersistentSearchCallBack)
    Dim timeSpan As New TimeSpan(1, 0, 0, 0, 0)
    ldapcon.BeginSendRequest(searchRequest, timeSpan,
    PartialResultProcessing.ReturnPartialResults, asyncCallBack,
    searchRequest)
    Here's my Asynch callback subroutine definition:
    Sub PersistentSearchCallBack(ByVal ar As IAsyncResult)
    End Sub
    Here's my function library that I developed for connecting to
    eDirectory VIA SSL just for reference:
    Function LDAP_Connect(ByRef Error_Message As String) As
    LdapConnection
    'This function connects to an LDAP server and returns an
    LDAPConnection object.
    'If a connection cannot be established, the function will
    return Nothing, and the
    'Error_Message parameter will be set to the error returned by
    the LDAP server.
    Error_Message = ""
    Try
    Dim ldapcon As LdapConnection = New LdapConnection(New
    LdapDirectoryIdentifier(LDAP_Server_IP & ":" & LDAP_Port), New
    System.Net.NetworkCredential(LDAP_Authentication_D N, ldap_Password))
    ldapcon.SessionOptions.SecureSocketLayer = True
    ldapcon.SessionOptions.VerifyServerCertificate = New
    VerifyServerCertificateCallback(AddressOf ServerCallback)
    ldapcon.AuthType = AuthType.Basic
    ldapcon.Bind()
    Return ldapcon
    Catch ex As Exception
    'Failed to bind to ldap server.
    Error_Message = ex.Message.ToString
    Return Nothing
    End Try
    End Function
    Public Function ServerCallback(ByVal connection As LdapConnection,
    ByVal certificate As
    System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509 Certificate) As
    Boolean
    'Validate that the exchanged public keys match each other.
    Try
    Dim expectedCert As X509Certificate = New
    X509Certificate(LDAP_SSL_Certificate)
    If expectedCert.GetRawCertDataString =
    certificate.GetRawCertDataString Then
    Return True
    Else
    Return False
    End If
    Catch ex As Exception
    'Certificate could not be loaded.
    Return False
    End Try
    End Function
    When I run the code, I get an the following error message:
    The server does not support the control. The control is
    critical.
    Any help from someone who has successfully done an LDAP persistent
    search against eDirectory using the System.DirectoryServices.Protocols
    name space would be greatly appreciated, I've been trying to figure this
    out in my spare time for a few weeks now. Thanks in advance!

    Hello Cisco-Experts,
    we just received a new 5508 installed with SW-Version 6.0.199.4, Filed REcovery Image 6.0.182.0.
    Because all other Controllers, all 4400-series, are running on SW-Version 6.0.202, we would like to
    upgrade the software to this level.
    The Upgrade documentation is mentioning a Boot Software-File 5.2.157.0 ER.AES that needs to be
    downloaded also besides the Controller Software file.
    But on Your Web-Download-page for 5508-controllers, I cannot find the described file:
    Cisco Unified Wireless Network Controller Boot Software 5.2.157.0. ER.aes.
    Why are YOu not offering this file anymore for this type of controller ?
    Is it possible to use this file from the 4400-Controller-series ?
    Or is the SW-version already installed on the controller a newer one ?
    Please advise
    Thank You
    Winfried

    Hi,
    5.2 platform code is not supported on 5500 controller and so you don't need that bootloader file and don't have to worry about it. 5.2 bootloader file is for 4400, wism, and other 2100 series small business controllers. 5500 controllers are design for 6.0 and 7.0 codes and there are no bootloader file for these codes.
    Here is  the bug as well!!

  • Error in System Log: DirectoryService[26]

    Hello,
    i have the following Error Masseage on one of our Server all the time: DirectoryService[26]: Failed Authentication return is being delayed due to over five recent auth failures for username: admin
    The Server is bind to AD and makes rsync to two different other Servers.
    Sometimes on one from the other Servers the rsync fails with this Error:
    Received disconnect from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: 2: Too many authentication failures for admin
    So, i dont know is this one Problem or two different Problems.
    Can somone help me?
    Thanks
    Sven

    What's to help?
    The machine at the specified IP address is trying to login as admin but failing due to an incorrect password.
    The issue is whether that IP address is known to you, and whether you expect this. If the IP address is unknown then it could be a remote attack against your computer (someone using a dictionary attack against your admin account). If it IP address is known then it's a machine on your network that's trying to log in - this could be a local user trying to gain admin privileges or something as benign as someone running a copy of Server Monitor/Server Admin but with the wrong account password.
    Either way knowing the IP address is the critical step.

  • Server crash caused by "Potential VM growth in DirectoryService"

    Our mail server experienced a crash yesterday. The system log reports "Potential VM growth in DirectoryService...". The Intel Xserve is fully patched to 10.5.5 and no updates are available. This is the first time we have experienced this problem.
    From what I have read in past discussions, I thought Mac OSX Server 10.5.5 was supposed to correct this issue from occurring.
    The specific error from the system log is:
    Dec 9 15:53:17 mail DirectoryService[26]: Potential VM growth in DirectoryService since client PID: 0, has 850 open references when the warning limit is 500.
    Here is the hardware overview from system_profiler:
    Model Name: Xserve
    Model Identifier: Xserve2,1
    Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 8
    L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
    Memory: 6 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: XS21.006C.B06
    SMC Version: 1.26f3
    LOM Revision: 1.1.0
    Serial Number: G88100NFX8S
    Here is the Software Overview from system_profiler:
    System Version: Mac OS X Server 10.5.5 (9F33)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 9.5.0
    Boot Volume: Hermes Server HD
    Boot Mode: Normal
    Computer Name: xxxxxxxxx
    User Name: xxxxxxxxx
    Time since boot: 14:53

    Currently it seems that the "only" problem is that there's too many users - even though the number is alarming low (eg 1-200). My thought is a faulty design of OS X Server (someone PLEASE correct me and prove me wrong!)
