Directv dvr to ATV?

I recently bought a 52" HD TV and had to upgrade my DirecTV equipment as well. I was using TiVos before, but now I have the DirecTV DVR.
Is it possible to:
1. Transfer video from the DirecTV DVR to my mac like I could with TiVo,
and
2. Is it possible to do this with the ATV?
I picked up the brochure at Costco for the ATV and it makes it sound like it's only used to play content from iTunes. They make no mention of going the other direction.

The device seems to have 4 ports that are of interest, 2 x USB, Ethernet and SATA, although they are currently slated for future use. USB and ethernet could realistically be used for a number of things, however SATA is almost certainly used for data transfer and is likely to give you a way (maybe in the future) to transfer your movies to another device.
The second part of the process is encoding for the tv. Whether this is possible or not depends on the source files and what format (not codec) that they are encoded in. If they use a .mov or .wmv container for example then they will easily convert to tv. If on the other hand they use a custom container rather like elgato do with the eye.tv then you will struggle to find something to convert the files for you.
I don't suppose the unit lets you see the full file names together with their extensions.

Are you trying to connect to the wireless network or it is wired to the router?
Do you get IP address on DVR system?
How many wired and wireless computers/devices do you have in the network?
If the Internet is working fine on all the other computers/devices then I think your router is working fine.
If it is wireless system then you just need to connect to the wireless network. Make sure that you are entering the correct password of the wireless network.

  • Connecting Linksys E3000 to DIRECTV DVR

I want to setup a hardwired connection between my Linksys E3000 router and a DIRECTV DVR.  I have the most recent firmware on my router.  I have checked the ethernet cable and it is good.  The lights on the ethernet port on the DVR light up when I have the DRV and router connecter.  The DVR gives me an error message when I try to connect.  Some other posts have suggest setting a static IP on the DIRECTV DVR using the following settings:
    IP Address : 192.168.1.10
    Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1
    DNS : 192.168.1.1
I tried this and still get an error message so I am going to call DIRECTV.  Before I do call I would like to know if these are the correct settings for a Static IP?

This is the screen displayed by the DVR is
         IP Address:           192.168.1.10      OK
         Subnet Mask:        255.255.255.0   OK
         Default Gateway:  192.168.1.1        OK
         DNS:                      75.75.75.75       OK
         Network: Coax not connected (9)
         Internet: Not connected (9)
         Result Code: 86-748
The DNS number is different than that in my original posting because I typed the wrong value in that posting.  The DNS number here is the actual value I entered when trying to create the static IP.

  • DirecTV DVR HR20 connect to internet via Time Capsule

    Hi Everyone,
I've searched and come across various topics about connecting the DirecTV DVR to the internet via Time Capsule, but none of them seem to provide a solution for wireless connectivity.
Can anyone point me to a topic where it describes the steps and any issues related to getting my DirecTV DVR connected to the internet via the Time Capsule wirelessly.
I have gone through the setup and I get connected to my network, but I get the error when it tries to connect to the internet.
Do I have to do any port forwarding or anything special?
I use to have my Netgear supporting this configuration, just purchased the Time Capsule and now I cannot get my DVR connected.
    Thanks for the support
    Jeff...

The Direct TV DVR has an Ethernet connection on the back, which is strongly recommended if you intend to download movies or any kind of high definition material.
If you are trying to use the new Whole Home feature, wireless is not supported by Direct TV for this service.
If you are trying to connect to the DVR using wireless from the Time Capsule, you must be using some sort of wireless to Ethernet bridge device.
What device are you trying to use?
Have you verified that this device is compatible with the Time Capsule?
As a test, connect the adapter/bridge to your laptop and turn the wireless off on the laptop. Open your browser to see if you can get an Internet connection.
If you can, you know the network connection is good and the focus shifts to the DVR as the source of the problem.
If you can't, we'll need to figure out if the adapter you are using will work the Time Capsule.

  • Connecting AX to DirecTV DVR

I am using Airport Extreme for my wireless network. I am currently using an Express (b/g) for AirPlay without difficulty. How do I configure the Express so that I can connect it to my DirecTV DVR? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the discussions, Laarni_RN!
In order to do what you want, you'll have to configure both the AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express to participate in WDS (Wireless Distribution System) network.
If you have a newer "n" version of the AirPort Extreme, the router will drop down to "g" wireless levels in this type of configuration because WDS can only operate at "g" wireless speeds.
WDS is a difficult setup for many users, so that may be a concern as well. To give you an idea of what will be involved, take a look at the post from forum expert Tesserax regaring this type of setup.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2641670&tstart=0
The newer 802.11"n" version of the Express would allow you to set it up in the "extend a wireless network" configuration. In this type of setup, the Express will provide more wireless coverage and the ethernet port is also enabled. Everything will run at "n" speeds on the entire network....if your AirPort Extreme is "n" capable.
If you have an older "round" AirPort Extreme, the WDS configuration is your only option.

  • Wireless speakers for directv dvr

I am looking for wireless speakers to hook up to my directv dvr so I can listen to the music channels in the garage and on the deck from it. Is there anything out there that can do this?

Thanks for visiting our Community Forums. I am sorry but I do not know of a product that would accomplish this. I know there are systems out there to stream music to different rooms in your house but not to your car deck. If I run into something like that, I'll be sure to share.

  • Connecting to Directv DVR via ethernet

What are the correct setting for setting up a HR-20-700 DVR via ethernet to the Airport Extreme. The dvd shows an IP address of 169.254.10.143 and subnet 255.255.0.0 and service ports of STB 27177 and Audio 27178. I will connect the AE to a DSL modem. I will connect my iMac also via ethernet. I will use wireless for my iPhone. Thank in advance for saving me some frustration.

I just plugged it in to the Airport and the DVR - went to setup on he DVR and it worked. Takes an hour or so for the on demand to populate. Just got the box Friday

  • DirecTv DVR content to Macbook Pro?

I would like to be able to take the shows I record to my DVR, and put them onto my computer. Please let me know the best way to do this.

  • Can Apple TV ethernet be used like Airport Expess for DirecTV wireless DVR connection to network?

can ethernet on Apple TV support a DirecTV DVR for wireless 'network'/internet connection similarly as Airport Express will?

No. The ATV is not a hub.

  • Directv HDTV DVR to iMovie import

I just got a new HDTV DVR from my DirecTV service provider. Now that I have gone to HDTV, I now have true digital ports out of the DirecTV DVR Model HR10-250. The output is HDMI and a cable is provided to get it to DVI. How can I get this DVI or HDMI signal into my computer and ultimately to iMovie and iDVD. I have looked all over for conversion boxes or PCI cards for the computer, but everywhere I look companies only offer Analog (composite or s-video) to Firewire converters that do the same as my DV Camcorder. I am looking to eliminate the Analog to digital process where the quality is degraded. If there is no such device does anyone know of a Component to Firewire device as Component analog is still better than s-video.
Before I got the HDTV I had an older Standard definition DVR from DirecTV and was able to build DVD copies of what I recorded by outputing the DVR through the s-video port into my DV camcorder. It converted the s-video to DV which I imported to iMovie for editing and then iDVD for DVD generation. It is a tedious process but it does work. The video quaility is reasonable but not as good as the orginal.

You can get a Intensity pci express card from Blackmagic which will allow you to get you HDMI uncompressed video into the computer. That is if it is not stopped by copyright issues. If the HDMI is not compressed you will need a raid drive set up with at least 2 drive to capture uncompessed HD. If it is in a MPEG 2 form you probaly can import it to your drive directly using their Decklink program. It will get stored I believe as a Quike View file and you can trag it into IMovie HD. Hope this helps.

  • ATV2 and DirecTV

Anyone having problems with DirecTV after installing ATV? I have setup the ATV and am able to connect to everything except Home Sharing (still trying to figure this one out) but since then I have started having problems with my DirecTV. I get a black screen. It seems as though it has lost the signal. This morning I had to unplug the ATV and reset my DVR in order to get DirecTV back. I did have the ATV setup right next to the DVR, then I moved it to the shelf above the DVR, then over to another cabinet away from the DVR/TV.

Just an update, this still hasn't been resolved.
I reset my DVR (had to since I couldn't get any channel to come on) and unplugged the ATV from my TV. After reset I just left my TV & DVR on all day (I do this anyway, I have a dog home alone) and it seemed to work fine. I turned it off for the night and turned it back on this morning with no problems. Tonight I will plug the ATV back in and see if I still have the same problems as before.

  • Recording dvr to dvd

is there a way to EASILY record from a directv dvr to a vcr/dvd recorder

Pretty much once it's in the DVR, it's stuck there.  If you use composite outputs, the DVR likely Macrovisions them.
If you use the component outputs, pretty much your only chance (and it's not going to be "easy") is the Hauppauge HD-PVR 1212.  It's the only component video recording solution I know of, and I haven't heard of anything like Macrovision for component outputs other than the ICT.  (Image Constraint Token, which tells Blu-Ray players to reduce output resolution to 540p if the Blu-Ray disc sets it.  DVRs may have similar features.)
Recording DirecTV in any format other than 480i NTSC is NOT easy.  The only options are the above listed Hauppauge 1212 (if your DTV receiver has component outputs) and specially modified receiver boxes (I'm not sure if there are any available these days as the manufacturers took measures to make said modifications more difficult.  Also the authors of some DVR packages have refused to support such modded boxes with their software due to DMCA fears.)

  • DVR to Macbook

I'm looking to take a recording off my DirecTV DVR Model HR20 into my Macbook. What stuff do I need to transfer say a football game onto my Macbook to edit the game?
    Thanks in advance!

Look on the back of the DVR. If you have a firewire port, you can use pretty much anything, i.e. FCP or DVHSCap. if not, then you will have to use an analog converter.
If you have no firewire port, I would call up your cable company and swap for one that does. They are required by law to give you one if you ask.
Wait, just reread your post; you have satellite, which is not bound by the same laws.

  • DVR's and Apple, not compatible

I have a Q-See 444 dvr and want to see my cameras on the mac. I downloaded a PSS program supposedly designed for macs but couldn't get it to work. One of Q-See's techs said they were waiting for a firmware update from Apple but I think she was just blowing me off.  Any suggestions?

Also I tried contacting Meye and have yet to get a response from them as to their DirecTV DVR compatibility.  Sent it 24 hours ago.
If your Mac is genuinely running 10.4, it isn't even compatible with Netflix streaming.    Later versions of 10.4 may work with Netflix if your Mac is Intel, but not G5.   And while Flash does exist for PowerPC, many places require more power for video.  You may find an old compatible standard.   http://www.elgato.com may have an old solution that would work for you.   I would contact them and ask.   I though don't presently have the money for some of their solutions, so I can't say which would be best for you.

  • Green static or sparkles with aTV.

I just got an aTV for Christmas and have it hooked up to a Vizio LCD 1080p HDTV through a 5.1 surround receiver.  I also have a blu-ray player and DirecTV receiver run through the same receiver via HDMI.  Initially, I had the aTV plugged directly into the back of the LCD to try it out and had no issues.  When I got it hooked up through the receiver, I noticed green static or sparkles in the picture (especially noticeable in the black areas.  There was no static with the blu-ray or DirecTV, just the aTV.  I played  around with the video settings and when the aTV was set to 720p, the static was gone.  As of now, I must either sacrifice sound quality or picture quality to get rid of the static.  I shouldn't have to settle.  Any ideas?

Well, I tried a brand new cable just to be sure and it didn't solve the problem. I'm having a hard time believing it's the receiver since all the other components are fine. The blu-Ray and the satellite box have no issues. I've unplugged the cable from the back of the blu-ray and plugged it into the aTV and the static is there. That tells me that the problem is in the aTV. I have updated the software. Is there anything else I can try?
