DirectX Cover Flow - song list like in iPod player

Is there a possibility to view the song list of an album within Windows iTunes' cover flow animation? Just like it is possible with the iPod player when "touching" the album itself or the 'i' at the bottom right. So that it looks just like this:

i'm having the same problem, and its really the only thing that really bums me out about the new itunes

  • Can't see the songs listed on the IPOD in Itunes

I cannot click on the IPOD administrator when connected to Itunes and get the song listing on the IPOD shuffle.  All I get is the IPOD shuffle settings screen (showing Software version 1.0.4, capacity, serial # etc)- no listing of the songs,  This is a recent problem - in the last 2 weeks. I have downloaded latest IPOD and ITUNES software and it does not fix the problem.
    Can someone please help?

Not dumb...    It's actually a bit confusing with the latest version of iTunes, and it only affects 1st and 2nd gen shuffle users.
Before, it was Settings and Content.  And they clearly looked like separate "tab" choices.  iTunes 11 changed the wording to Settings and On This iPod, and it's harder to see the separation as "button" choices.  So, it looks like it says, "Settings on this iPod."  On other iPods, it starts with Summary (not Settings) there are more button choices there (not just two), so it's not as confusing that the last one is On This iPod.
Thanks for reporting back with the outcome.

  • Cover Flow won't work in iPod view

When I'm viewing the contents of my iPod within iTunes, I can't use Cover Flow - or Browse by List for that matter. The three icons are greyed out. Is this a bug? While my library is a mishmash, my iPod is organized with full albums, so that's where Cover Flow would benefit me most. I'm really bummed out. Can anyone help?

  • Green / Magenta squares after using Cover Flow or the like

I'm on a C2D white 20" iMac upgraded to 10.5.1 Leopard. Whenever I use Cover Flow, or Front Row, or Time Machine, I get these squares all over the screen and I can only clear them out with a reboot.
I tried searching on the issue here but most things I'm seeing are for lines, either horizontal or vertical, but it seems they're all afflicting the alum iMacs, and not white ones like mine.
Is there by any chance a fix I could exact to rectify this?
Here's a screenshot of what I'm referring to:

I have exactly the same issue, just started appearing after I upgraded to Leopard (10.5.1) after Christmas. For me, this occurs particularly when using video effects in PhotoBooth or iChat. Also sometimes when I'm using iPhoto. (I am still using the previous release of the iLife suite).
Tonight I upgraded to the Leopard-compatible version of RapidWeaver, and I started to see the same green/magenta squares effect appearing in "thumbnail" images on photo pages. That makes me think it's something in the graphics processing, and not just the display hardware.
Please advise if you heard anything helpful from Apple or another user. Thanks.

  • I updated my ipod 2 1.2 and now i cant c ma songs list just my ipod pic

this is really ******* me off iv been tryna do this 4 a week and still nuthing i updated my itunes and my ipod 2 1.2software and now when i connect my ipod to itunes all that comes up is a pic of my ipod video and thats it i cant play my songs and i cant put it to normal im gona break it soon if i cant do it sum can u help me plz

    That happens sometimes.
An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" included corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • Cover Flow of compilation albums not quite right on iPod Classic

Okay, so after receiving my new iPod classic 80gb the other day, I decided to go through and fix up a lot of my albums in iTunes to display properly in Cover Flow. I have lots of Various Artists albums and have marked all tracks in each album as part of a compilation so that they show up correctly in iTunes 7.4.1.2. Now, when I'm scrolling through Cover Flow within iTunes, these albums appear correctly as 1 entry of "Album Name", and then "Various Artists" underneath that.
However, when I move these tracks over to my iPod and then go to Cover Flow, it looks like instead of using "Various Artists" as the listed artist, it uses the artist of the first track on the album. So, for example, if track 1 were "Board Bangers - Cause the Beat's Hot", it would show "Board Bangers" instead of "Various Artists" as the album artist. However, if I click the middle button to "flip" the cover over to see the tracks, it correctly lists all the tracks for the album (even though it only lists the song titles and not the track artist).
Also, in iTunes, Cover Flow is sorted by album name, whereas on my iPod, Cover Flow is sorted by artist. I'm not sure if that's something I can change in the settings somewhere -- obviously, until this compilation CD "bug" is fixed, I'd rather sort by album name since I haven't memorized the artist of the first track for each disc, hehe.
Has anyone else experienced this or know of a fix for either of these issues?
    Thanks,
    Rob

You r not alone Rob! I just posted the same complain in a previous thread...

  • Does the iPod follow the iTunes "sort filters" in Cover Flow?

    Two quick questions:
    1) Is it now generally agreed upon how Cover Flow is sorted on the iPod? (i.e. Is it by +album title+, by artist, or by +album artist+?) Can you change how it's sorted?
    2) If you have used the "sorting" tab feature in iTunes when editing song info, (for example, I have "album artist=Foo Fighters" in song info, but I also have album artist Foo Fighters sorting as "A1 Foo Fighters" for various listing reasons to keep it ahead of other album artists), will the iPod know to follow these sorting decisions?
The main reason I ask, is that I am digitizing my collection of 400+ cds, 100 of which are classical, 100 are musicals, 100 are rock, and 100 are other genres. I've had a lot of fun in iTunes with the Sorting tab in the song info box, which has allowed me to really sort my albums the way I want. For a classical album, like Bach's St. Matthew Passion, I leave the actual album title "as is," but then I have the Sorting album box sort this as "Classical, Bach's St. Matthew Passion," so that when I sort by album, all my classical cds show up together, in alphabetical order by album title, then my rock cds, etc. I do the same thing for album artist...I'll insert my own prefix, like "A1" or "Classical" or "Musicals" before the album artist name to make sure the genres stay together, even when I sort by album artist.
I'd like to use the iPod's Cover Flow, so I NEED to know the way the iPod Cover Flow will sort...If it sorts by Album Artist, I'll be much more careful with how I apply Album Artist "sorting" filters to my song info in iTunes. And I need to make REALLY sure that the iPod will actually abide by the iTunes Sorting tab, because otherwise all this tagging work I'm doing is for nothing.

As far as I can tall the tracks are initially sorted by the *Sort Artist* field. If this field doesn't exist it takes the value of the Artist field, with the provio that a leading "The " is ignored. Once grouped by artist the albums are sorted by the *Sort Album* field. Again, if this field doesn't exist it takes the value of the Album field with a leading "The " ignored. In iTunes artist names begining with numerals are listed first but on the iPod they are listed after those starting with A-Z and before the compilations.
When displaying the covers the iPod displays a new cover every time the album name and/or album artist changes. If you have one album by a given artist it should show once, even if there are guest artists listed in the artist field. If you have two albums however you may end up with four covers shown. This can be fixed by setting the *Sort Artist* to the main artist for each track with guests.
When the album is selected every track with the same album name is listed, most obvious if you flip over *Greatest Hits* and find 100+ tracks listed. To fix this you need to give every album a unique name. e.g. append ", Artist" to affected album titles. You can do this invisibly by making this change to the *Sort Album* field but it's worth noting this bug exists in iTunes too and it's probably better done visibly when using other views. The *Sort Album* field comes into it's own however when you want a group of albums displayed in a specific, non-alphabetical order. I have the Hitchhikers Guide radio series which I have reoganised to appear as single albums and set the fields as *Hitchhikers Guide 1*, *Hitchikers Guide 2* etc. to list them in the right order while still displaying the full album title.
Lastly the albums are displayed with the Artist field of the first track rather than the album artist. Looks odd on compilations and where the first track has a guest artist. No fix or workaround that I know of...
It took a while, but every one of my albums is listed in Cover Flow exactly once.

  • Some folders in list view, others in cover flow?

Is it possible to get the Finder to remember a view preference on a folder-by-folder basis?
Some folders, like those containing media, are really nice in cover flow.
Others, like those containing programming source files, are easiest to deal with in list view.
    Thanks,
    doug

Open the folder. Set your preferred view mode for this folder (hit Command-1, Command-2, Command-3 or Command-4). Select Show View Options from View menu (or hit Command-J). From the options window that appears, set any other view options you would like. Then click the "Always open in..." check box at the top of the options window. The next time you visit this folder, it will come up with the view options you have set. Well, usually. There's some kind of bug that makes this less dependable than it was under 10.4.

  • Album View and Cover Flow View are not available in iTunes 7

    Hi,
When I connect my iPod, in the iTunes 7, the options for Album view and Cover Flow View are disabled for the song list on my iPod. I only have a list view for them. However, at the same time, the songs on the library can be viewed in any of the three (3) views.
What might be the possible reason and is there any options to view your iPod songs in Cover Flow View in iTunes (while it is connected)?
Please solve this query of mine.

It just simply not a feature. You might think about requesting it here:

  • [COVER FLOW BUG] Double albums in some circumstances

I have found a bug affecting the Cover Flow feature.
I have 2 Albums called "Greatest Hits" on my iPod
Queen - Greatest Hits, and Venga Boys - Greatest Hits.
If I open these albums using Cover Flow, a list of songs from both albums appear, instead of just the selected album.
    Repro Steps:
    1. Open Queen - Greatest Hits within Cover Flow
    2. It will show all songs from Queen - Greatest Hits, as well as Venga Boys - Greatest Hits.
    3. It should only be showing the songs from Queen, not Venga Boys.
Anyone else able to reproduce this? When having two albums with the same name?

  • Cover Flow Won't Display Ampersands

Ampersands (&) are displayed fine everywhere else on the iPod and even on the iTunes Cover Flow, but not on my iPod's Cover Flow. Other symbols, such as colons, plus signs, parentheses, periods, commas, etc. display fine, however. Also, the ampersands displayed just fine until a few days ago, and I'm not sure what happened.
I tried the 5 Rs, deleting the problem songs from the iPod, changning the name of the album(s), pretty much everything I could think of. Any ideas?

PS--too late to edit, but one thing to try, to make sure Coverflow isn't having some sort of major problem, is go to to a web site that has jpegs. Make yourself a folder on the Desktop, call it WebJPEGs, then click on a jpeg in the browser window, continue to hold the mouse button down, pause for just a second, and then, still holding the mouse button down, drag the jpeg out of the browser window and drop it (release the mouse button) when you are over the folder you created. Add several jpegs to the folder this way, then open the folder and put it in Coverflow. Does Coverflow draw the custom icons?
Just in case you can't think of a web site you know has jpegs, you can use this page:
    http://www.pinkmutant.com/smug/tutorials/compositing.html
All the pix are in jpeg format, and were created in Photoshop Elements on the Mac.

  • Slow iTunes Cover Flow

    I have a Macbook 2 Ghz processor with a 1gig of ram.
I have just over 5,000 songs and they are all on my hard drive, when i use the cover flow view in iTunes it seems to be very slugish sometimes. When I first got the Macbook cover flow worked beautiful, but now when I first open iTunes it works great but after using it for a bit and it seems to be slow.
When I flip through albums it gets slow and stops, the color wheel comes up and then it catches up to its self and goes to that album. I cleared all album art and redownloaded all album art thinking that would help, but it didn't do much for me. Any one else have this problem or have a fix that can make Cover Flow work smooth like it use to?

"I have about 12GB of music in iTunes (I do a lot of clearing of old unwanted tracks) and coverflow is smooth (minus the loading of some album art when flying through it)"
    Darksol360
I also had missing artwork covers for some CD's that won't update from iTunes store. To find and complete your missing covers do a google search for the artist and album, then from Amazon.com drag the large album artwork from the link to, right click on coverflow cover that is missing artwork and add the artwork. Two examples below!
    Robin Trower
    The Ultimate Yes 35th
It takes time to add the missing artwork this way, but it's well worth it to have covers for all your albums.

  • Songs gray & unplayable in song list in iTunes...

I recently bought an iPod nano 4GB 3rd Gen. (I also have a shuffle) From the first time I connceted and installed the iPod, the song list under the iPod installed in iTunes is gray-scaled and is not clickable. I can't delete or add unless actually re-syncing songs. I do not have this problem with my iPod shuffle.
    Why is this happened?
(i have all the available updates for iTunes; i tried installing it on another account on my computer; i trouble-shot, restored setting, deleted and then re-added songs to the library and it still is gray-scaled)

    Dimaxum,
Thank you much but I was told be a very experienced 'mac/apple genius' that it was supposed to be like that.
I do appreciate your help though.

  • Can't view cover flow

Message appears "itunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer". Itunes did show album covers on the computer before. The directx was updated, but directdraw or accelorater is not available to enable?". Is there away to check and fix video drivers? Would appreciate any help.
    Jen_123xc

I am having the same problems. I just recently got my laptop working again and it doesn't want to do the cover flow when it did before. My PC with XP doesn't want to do cover flow either.
I saw on another post of updating the DirectX drivers which I did and when I run the diagnostics it shows there are no probs but I can't seem to enable the 3D and Draw. Or, else I'm not sure how to enable them. I've also updated my Flash. HELP! I really like viewing by cover flow so would like to get it working again.

  • Cover flow anomalies

I suppose this is a Mac OSX Leopard bug, but maybe I'm wrong.
When I turn a window from list to cover flow view, and then later open certain other finder windows that were previously in list view, I find that they are now in cover flow view too. (This happens to some, but not all, windows that were previously in list view.)
Likewise, if I turn a window from cover flow to list, ALL windows later go back to list view, even the ones I wanted in cover flow view!
I thought changing one window to cover flow affected only that window. instead, OSX can't seem to grasp that I want some windows in cover flow and others in list.

I suppose it's not a bug but a new feature. The bug is when you use the back button....
Anyway, yep, that's how it works. You must use "Show View Options" and explicitly set every folder you want to have a certain display. If I double click my hard drive icon it opens in Column view, because I went to View->Show View Options and put a check in the radio button to "always open in column view" when I had the window open and set to column view. The alias to my home folder on the Desktop opens in list view for the same reason, while various picture folders open in Icon view. But if I open some folder that doesn't have a view explicitly set, it opens in whatever view the last opened folder had. Drives me nuts, but Apple was actually monkeying with things to silence the chorus of complaints about an inability to set a global default for Finder windows. Personally I find the new system confusing, And then there's the back button bug....
