Dirt behind LCD screen - common problem ?

Hi, I recently bought a toshiba EQUIUM A60-181 and I'm
experiencing a problem concerning the LCD screen.
There appears to be a defect or dirt behind the glass
because it's blocking light from a pixel. Any attempts at
apply moderate pressure to move this dirt has failed. I was
wondering if it's common with LCDs to expect some kind
of imperfection I cannot believe this has passed quality
control. Do i have justification for having it sent back
to toshiba for fixing it's only just 1 week old ??
I've read the warranty booklet and there's no mention of
dead pixel return policy can anyone elborate on what is
and what is not covered by the warranty ??
cheers,
Richard.

I've emailed Toshiba technical support to see where I
stand with regards to my problem. Having discussed this
issue with friends on IRC it appears I may actually have
something called a dead pixel. This is suppose to be quite
a common problem and some manufacturers can actually sell
you laptops with defected LCD screens which to me is criminal.
Ive searched the entire Toshiba website with the regards
to dead pixel cover policy or what the warranty does and
does not cover. I understand that to replace the screen is
gonna cost Toshiba loads of money but I would have never
bought this laptop if I have been warned that it may
contain defects in the screen. I can tolerate most things
like noisy fans harddrives and scratches but not problems
with the screen especially one thats brand new.
cheers,
Richard.

  • LCD screen, eyestrain problems?

I've been considering getting an iPad 2 or a Kindle DX to have my college textbooks on and to use an ereader. It would be nice to have the extra features of the iPad and it would be easier to take to class than my laptop, however, I was wondering about eyestrain and reading on an LCD screen. I get eyestrain from paper books, mostly from the black and white contrast. The Kindle sepia option seems to improve my reading, so if the LCD isn't too straining, this may help my reading. Can anyone share how difficult/easy it is to read on an LCD screen for extended periods of time?

Hey, just now I found a C/NET forum saying that LCD monitors aren't affected by the magnets in unshielded speakers. Good news for me because I really like some funky unshielded speakers I've gotten used to.

  • Dust or Dirt behind my screen..

    Hey All..
I wondered if anyone could shed some light on this for me - i'm having an issue with the screen on my iMac. I am noticing that there is some sort of markings on the back of the glass. It's not on the LED panel but definitely on the back of the glass. It looks like it could be dust or some kind of dirt.
Here is a picture of it. I took this picture of my iMac using Pixel Check on white:
    http://gallery.me.com/rickygray#100162/IMG_0318
It's not making it look as bad as it is...it's annoying. To be fair I cannot see it when using my iMac for web surfing emails etc...but at times and on certain back grounds it does show itself.
My Mac is covered by Care but to save me lugging it back to the Store I thought I'd check on here first.
    Many thanks..
    Ricky

    Hey guys..
Thanks for the help - I appreciate it.
Ian: I have a little sucker that would do the job but I'd be really worried I'd make an ar5e of it. My gut suspicion is that it's caused by smoke from candles burning on a table about 10 feet from the Mac. The static on the screen might attract it - I'm not sure..but that's my guess.
Doing it myself I might mess up so I may just take it along to the Glasgow Store - although it's a pain to do it.
    Thanks again for the help..

  • Liquid got behind LCD screen. How to fix?

Unfortunately some liquid (OK, Mountain Dew—don't ask) got behind or inside my LCD. It now has some very bright regions where the liquid is, and an overall dimness in other parts. My sense is that the liquid is between the LCD panel and the backlight lens, and not in the LCD panel itself. Can the two be disassembled separately and the liquid cleaned out? Or do I need the whole panel to be replaced? Any one successfully fixed this?

Not bad, considering how it looked at first.
    Maybe all the caffeine helped!
Keep an eye on it anyway. If some of the goo worked into the hinge area where the cables run, there could be some "down the road" issues.
Historically, the correlation between notebook computer damage and beverage consumption is almost as high as the correlation between computer damage and cat ownership!

  • Cant find info about dirt behind sreen, 4 mo old

my 3gs is only 4 mo old and it has dirt behind the screen! realy bug'n me now, iv had at&t for several years now and the first thing they tell me is they dont work on them. anyone know what apple will do about it? iv searched it but iv not dropped it in the dirt, trash,or water. its been dropped twice both times it was in a case

I had this happen to my 3G about a year ago. Just some specs of dust behind the screen. I took it into an Apple store and they replaced it with no questions asked, for free (because it was still under the applecare warranty).

  • Macbook pro Dust behind LCD- is it a common issue ?

    Hello… I am a little bit embarassed. I haver a very nice and perfect MBP 15,4" Glossy…
It recently developed a haze gray cloud behind the display… It was an imperfection which developed into a nuissance, since i am a graphics designer and I definitely need a good picture and a perfect screen for working. All went well… I got the display changed 3 weeks ago.
Yesterday I realized that the new display has issues too… It seems like real dust particles are now placed behind the LCD screen. I am not working in dusty environments or something like that.
Is is that Apple Screens aren't sealed anymore that way they were before. I used to use a powerbook 17" for 2 years… in the same way and in the same enviroments… and never had any issue with that. What could be the cause for that? Cheaper production? Lacking QA?
And it seems that only MBP's are affected… I have already searched forums everywhere… and until now iI have found only MBP users who complained on that issue.

I've had dust buildup on the bottom of my screen since May of this year but it never really bothered me enough to do anything about it. Then in September I went to the Apple Store and just asked one of the Geniuses there (without my computer) what might be causing it and what I should do. His response was "oh just get a can of compressed air and blow it out." Which I finally did yesterday, and now all the dust (and hair) that was at the bottom of my screen is now all across the middle of my screen.
So I went to the Apple Store (different one) today and asked what could be done, they said they'd replace it but it would cost $300 because I didn't have Apple Care. Then I was told that I couldn't purchase it because my computer was 14 months old.
Now normally I'm fine with paying for problematic things, but the fact that I wouldn't have had as major a problem if I DIDN'T listen to the 1st Genius' advice. And then if Apple actually made it a point of saying that "Applecare cannot be purchased after 1 year" (the only mention is buried in the FAQ, not even the warranty PDF). Or even if they would accept the fact that the screen is moderately defective for allowing the dust to get in in the first place.
But all those things add up to quite possibly the most frustrating experience with Apple I've ever had. Because if they had just told me in the first place (don't know it with air, get applecare earlier) I wouldn't be writing this now.

  • Dust/hair behind/underneath lcd screen...

i noticed awhile ago that there was a small (dog) hair on my screen, along with other dust, that i couldn't remove. Just the other day, i noticed the hair had moved, and still can't be removed. It seems as if the dust and hair is under the screen. Is there a way to get it out? I wasn't sure if there was a cover over the screen that could be removed for cleaning.
i really appreciate any thoughts on this.
    thanks.

This problem happens more with laptops, just google for "dust behind laptop screen". Normally, a laptop screen is sealed off at the sides by rubber, so dust cannot get in. Somehow (perhaps due to age?), the sealing wasn't 100% perfect on your Macbook. Sadly, there's not much you can do about it, unless you're willing to open up the laptop. It's a major procedure for which iFixit has a manual:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Core-Duo-LCD-Panel/311/13# s1213
But then again, that only might make things worse, or you might not be able to reach the spot in question.

  • My iPod Touch 3rd Gen is having problems with the touch screen being unresponsive, too responsive, freezing and constantly resizing. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix?

My iPod Touch (3rd Gen) is having problems with the touch screen being unresponsive, too responsive, freezing and constantly resizing. It varies between not responding when I tap the screen and acting as if I double-tap or tap and hold when I tap. Every so often it freezes for a minute or so and then comes back. The scren is constantly changing sizes too such that I often can't see most of the top status bar or other edges. This makes typing almost impossible, ruins most games and generally makes everything difficult, but otherwise the iPod is working correctly. Powering off, shutting down apps, letting it sit have not worked. This has happened once before months ago, but the issue resolved itself somehow. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix?

    Try this for the freezing

Or if they don't work put it into recovery mode

  • Problems after replacing LCD screen

I fell over and cracked the screen to my ipod nano 3rd gen. (also broke my arm but that was easier to fix!). Ive just bought a new lcd screen for it and followed all the directions on how to install it. The problem im having now is it all appears to be connected right but the screen just flashes white to black and beeps. It was only recognised on my laptop as "no name" not as an ipod. Could someone please help and let me know what i have done wrong? Before replacing the screen my ipod still worked perfectly. Thanks in advance!

Thanks man. I will take a look at it later on tonight and see what happens. From my understanding some of these LCD's have the airport built-in or is it the antenna? I think mine is one of those, But it looked like the antenna just runs on the side of the casing for the LCD display which is still intact as I only removed the actual LCD screen. I'm gonna see if the connector is in fact not pushed in all the way although I never touched it.

  • Screen display problems, LCD?

I bought an iPhone 5 six months ago from Roger's Wireless and I also paid for the application of a screen protector, for a long time both of these worked very well and I had no problems. The other day I put my iPhone into my locker at work and came back a few hours later to find that two spots had appeared on the display. One was near the top of the screen and it looked like a dis-colored splotch while the other one, that was near the bottom of the screen, looked like someone tried to scratch the screen with a dull object . When I turn off the display and examined the outside of the phone there is no scratches or any other physical damage to the phone, I think it may have something to do with the LCD screen. Also, my locker was locked so I know no one was fooling around with it although humidity or something could have played a factor but I'm not entirely sure. The spots are relatively small but pretty annoying, before this my iPhone was in perfect shape . I'm not sure if I am covered by the one year warranty because my phone may have water damage (although I am not sure). I remember a few months back dropping it into a deep pile of snow and when I took it out it was pretty wet, but still continuted to work perfectly find. Regardless, I'm pretty sure thats accident caused the water damage indicators in my phone to be set off . I looked all over the internet and there is different ways of taking off the actual LCD screen and replacing it yourself but I think I would much rather get this done by a professional. I have also heard that the spots may go away eventually. I am not sure if I am going to send my phone in right away but any help at all would be awesome. Thanks!

Do not attempt to work on your iPhone yourself, doing so will result in Apple refusing all further support for you.  Take the iPhone to an Apple store genius bar or Authorized Service Provider for evaluation.  Water damage will result in an out-of-warranty status...replacement will be $229 in the US for an iPhone 5.

  • Lenovo T410s LCD screen problem

I've got a problem with my LCD screen on Lenovo T410s. Everyting worked good so far. Today I wanted to check another LCD for that model which I've got. So I dicsonected the original LCD, and conected the second one to check. After I saw that the second one worked good, I disconected it. Then I conected again the original one and started the laptop. Unfortunately when it started, the screen didn't shine good - it's very dark. I disconected the one and tried back the second LCD, but again the second one shined very bad. Can anybody tell me what could happened? It looks like the inverter is demaged, but I don't even know where is the one inside that model. Please give me some advices

These fuses are extremely tiny and not meant to be user-replaceable.
You'd have to pull the board out and start measuring them one by one until you find an "open" one.
No clue where exactly these are on a T410 board.
    Good luck.

Appears like it could be dead pixels. You can take it into the local Apple Store and them examine it. They will tell you your options.
