Dirt trapped under LCD?

So I've got a few dead pixels (like three or four maybe). This is fine. However, I also have what I can only imagine to be bits of dirt (or something) trapped under the LCD. Reasons I don't think it's dead pixels:
-Affected areas not pixel-shaped, sometimes containing parts of pixels
-Colored a sort of dark grayish, not black or any of RGB
-I'm not positive, but I think some of them have drifted over time.
Now this lovely machine is out of warranty, so I don't think I'll be getting Apple to fix it, but I was just wondering (a) if this is a known phenomenon and (b) if there happens to be something I can do about it, short of getting a new LCD.
Edited to add: Oh yeah, there's also a smallish white spot in the middle of the screen.

Yes, these can be dirt particles that creep under the LCD. I have a very small patch near the bottom edge of my screen, definitely a bit of dirt that got under, moved slightly inwards, and has stayed ever since. Your description sounds very similar to what I can see here.
No, what I have, and what you sound like you're describing, is not the "white spot" syndrome that some PowerBooks have had. It's not a vague lightening of patches of the screen. It's a dark smudge, in my case very tiny, very distinct, and definitely dimensional. It's not a pixel anomaly.
No, there really isn't anything you can do about it, short of getting a new screen. Hopefully it's not too distracting. Mine isn't, so I'm not complaining, but if it were I could see it being a real problem.

  • Dirt trapped inside camera lens

Hi, I noticed a small speck of dirt on my N95 camera lens which cannot be wiped off. I looked at the lens under a 40X microscope and discovered that the dirt is trapped inside the glass cover. No wonder it cannot be wiped off! Not only that, I can see many specks of fine size dirt inside as well which are not visible to the **bleep** eye. My question is how whether it is advisable to get the speck of dirt (visible by **bleep** eye) removed. Can the Nokia service people do it easily? Or is it better to leave it inside. Is this a common problem seen? Thanks!

  • Dirt/bubbles under glass?

There seems to be dirt or bubbles under the glass of my late 2008 15" MBP. Does my APP warranty cover this sort of thing? How is this sort of thing normally sorted out?
I have no idea how it got there. I was under the impression that the glass was sealed by the rubber on the sides of the screen. Also, it is even possible for the screen or the glass to bubble? I'm not 100% sure if its a bubble, but it seems like it has a bump with a visible surface.
    Hope that makes sense.

I've had the computer for over a year now though. I'm thinking the seal on the screen broke somehow but how can it be a manufacturing defect after 15 months? The dirt wasn't there up until about a week ago. I swear it just popped up out of nowhere. Is it possible for screen flickers to cause bubbling?
Is it possible for the tech to just remove the glass and clean it out/check for bubbling, or will this result in my screen being replaced?
I'm in the Philippines so I don't have access to an Apple store. I'll try to give the APP hotline a call when I get home.

  • Dirt inside iMac LCD

I got my iMac back in 2011. In early 2012 I started to notice small black smudges on the top right corner, out of my 90 day phone support and more than 1 hour away from any Apple store I ignored the problem hoping it would eventually go away. In the last month or so, the problem has become significantly worse, making it almost impossible to focus on the screen without seeing this large patch of dirt in the screen. According to Apple it would cost $300+ to replace the LCD. So does anyone think I should try the fix on MacRumors which involves taking apart the physical LCD, or should I take it to Apple and see if they will replace it with the knowledge that it's a major design flaw?

If you bought AppleCare this will be covered....did you every buy it? If not you will have to take it to an Apple Store or AASP. As for a flaw, that's why warrantees and AppleCare exist, don't expect anything for free because you ignored the issue and may not have purchase AppleCare.

  • Dirt/Particles Under the BB Screen

Dirt, or something of the sort, has gotten caught between the front glass and the screen.  I found instances on this forum regarding the problem with the Storm, but not with the 8330.  Does anyone know how to get it out, or at least prevent this from getting worse?  Thanks.

You can replace the front lens cover yourself... not too complicated, I have done so on several for crack and the such. But you have to be careful with the sealing of the cover on or you stand to continue to have the issue.
I believe your carrier will replace it.

The light goes on and off when I press the key but  nothing happens. I've tryed setting the key to off and nothing. I can't enter any passwords because my cap key is  locked.

Sounds like a hardware problem.  If you have AppleCare, give them a call.  If not, take your MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP.

  • Speck of dirt under the screen - extremely annoying!!!  What now?

On the top of my screen about 1/16" under the black border there's a tiny speck of dirt stuck under the screen. I suspect it got in there through the ear-speaker of the headphone jack.
How could it be removed? Is this something the Apple tech could take care of for me? I think the screen would need to be removed. It's annoying the heck out of me!
    -Jacob

People are taking them apart and documenting it all over the web.
    Here's one link: http://stream.ifixit.com/
I probably wouldn't do it, but some people are more hands-on than others.
I'd take it back as I've heard of the Apple store replacing dropped phones free of charge (usually they would not do this). Now is the time to take advantage of Apple's elevated "we want you to be satisfied" sentiment before it fades.
You may get a brand new one just for asking.
The question then becomes "How do you keep dirt specks out?"

  • E72 - Dust/dirt under the screen ?

    Hello!
I have the E72-1 and I'm very happy with the phone. Using 022.007 today and I would recommend this phone to a friend.
I have had a few known problems:
    pictures missing form the gallery
    the D-pad fails intermittently
No indication when the charge is done
battery cover is a joke. Bad fit and to thin
but overall the phone has worked very well.
But now I have another problem that is more annoying.
It looks like there is dirt/dust *under* the screen - I have checked the screen and there
are no marks on the screen surface. I have used the case that comes with the phone
from day one but that has not helped.
How many here has seen this ?  or am I the only one...
I can see the dust/dirt clearly when the screen saver is running, it is very annoying.
    Cheers,
     N. Muntz

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
As I previously had a 5310 "XpressMusic", very prone to dust under the screen, I am constantly watching this point on my 3 months old E72-1 (made in Finland, bought in Paris - France).
I always wear the E72 in jeans/shirt pockets without extra protection, so it is the worst possible situation.
I affirm that after 3 months of heavy usage there is ANY dust under the screen, nor under the camera window.
Under the exact same condition, the camera on the 5310 was almost unusable after 1 month, and its screen was innerly covered by dust after 2 months (but still visible and usable after 2 years, so don't worry).
But if you see too much dust under the screen, your unit could be defective as others (mine) don't have this default.

  • Unidentified traps and interface down alerts LMS 4.2

    Hi all,
Sometimes we have unidentified traps in our log, we don't know where they come from.
In high severity faults we see an active alert with device name “Unidentified” event name unresponsive but with a certain ip address.
What are these alerts about? Can I filter them?
A second issue I have is that I get interface down alerts. But when we log on to the device, there is no interface down at all. We can also ping the device from the lms server at that time. I have been told that the admin state and operational state has to be up.
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    Joris

    Hi Joris,
Generic trap support is a new feature introduced in LMS 4.2 release. look at the below
    document also.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/user/guide/lms_monitor/TrapFwd.html#wpxref13049
LMS 4.2 release onwards DFM will display any unprocessed traps comming from device in
fault monitor screen as unidentified trap under Inform alarm.
For the other issue , it could be a DFM database issue , try to REDISCOVER those devices in
DFM and see how it works
    Thanks

  • SNMP Trap modules and env

    Hi,
I would like to know what the equivalent command to enable snmp traps module and env in IOS XR.
The IOS command is like below :
    snmp-server   enable traps module
snmp-server enable traps envmon fan shutdown supply temperature status
i could not find similar command in IOS XR. is it the same with "snmp-server traps system" in IOS XR ?

    Hey,
You will need to configure "snmp-server traps sensor" to enable the traps under the CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB. You can use the following docs to check whether these are supported on your XR platform.
For ASR9k, (table 3-2 lists the supported Traps on the ASR9k),
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/asr9000/mib/guide/asr9kmib3.html#wp1602338
    For the GSR XR,

    For the CRS-1,

  • Help: title bar permanently stuck under parent title bar

I am using the program Jalview, which is a Java-based protein/DNA sequence alignment editor. This program works by opening a parent window, within which all subsequent windows are opened. My problem is that the title bar of one of these sub-windows (ie: the only part which you can click on to drag the window around) has become trapped under the title bar of the parent window. Saving my work, closing the program then re-loading has not helped as the program saves the windows open inside the parent window as a "session" and remembers the location of each window - so my window of interest always ends up back in the same place stuck under the title bar!
Title bars getting stuck under things is an infuriating bug that I often encounter when using Macs, but never to this extent.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
I would ask if the app has a Window Menu and whether this lists the window ?
If so can it be brought to the "Front" so that you can grab it ?
If not I would go to your Home Folder/Library/Preferences and find the .plist for the app.
I would highlight it and use Quick Look to read through the info - mainly to check it is not containing stuff you want to keep/not lose.
The info may contain the window location info.
If the .plist does not contain other stuff that is important and cannot be reset I would delete it.
The next time the app is started up it will read defaults and windows will be back to their default positions.
    Edit:-
Most apps written for Macs have the tool bar button top right of the Header (White/non coloured oblong tablet shaped button) If you use this the Tool Bar the apps has can be turned Off - which might just make the title Bar area small enough to grab the partially hidden window.

Oh man, don't get me started on the lack of an included help facility on an "advanced" phone.
It is the height of hubris for Apple to think their UI is totally self-explanatory. If it were, there wouldn't be hundreds of questions on various forums each week about supposedly simple actions.
Even WM phones usually have a help file onbooard. In this case, there's plenty of space. Could just plop the manual in flash if they're really lazy! Otherwise HTML version with search would be nice.

  • T540P LCD problem

I'm having an issue with my T540p. Since a few weeks ago, the display turned garbled.
Initially, they turned fine again when I turned the lcd screen to different angles, however it seems that the problem became more frequent. I also figured out that pressing the laptop frame under LCD screen seems to restore the screen whenever it goes funny.
Is there anything loose with the wiring or connection and has there been anyone that has a similar problem?

I took my display to the Apple Store and the Genius informed me that dust trapped under the glass has actually been a somewhat common problem with the Aluminum iMacs as well. He brought out two suction cups, took the glass off (those magnets are cool!), then ran a little roller on an adhesive pad / over the glass and that grabbed all the dust. Only took about 5 minutes or so and got rid of it all! I was very pleased."
