Dirty environment found on brand new machines

Hi
I'm doing a deployment purely from USB onto a brand new machine and after the first reboot following the OS installing I get an error about dirty enviroment found. The google results all point to this being due to files left over from a previous deployment
but this is happening to brand new machines.
The USB drive is the first boot device and I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 using MDT 2013.
If I dont make the USB first boot device, after the OS install it just boots into Windows and fails to carry on.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Chris

I'm not 100% sure about what the problem is from your question.
However, as a general rule of thumb... you should never make the USB device the 1st boot device in the BIOS of a computer (For security reasons and others), instead most (good) BIOS/Firmware makers supply the ability to temporarily boot to any device. For
my Dell and HP devices, I press F9, for Lenovo I press the blue THinkVantage button, for my ASUS Motherboard devices, I enter the BIOS via "DEL" and select the boot device there.
IF you change the boot order in MDT, and reboot without changing the boot order back, the BIOS will boot back into WinPE, instead of booting into the OS.
If you are still having problems, remove all the \_SMS* and \MININT folders from the machine and restart.
If you are still having problems, copy the newest bdd.log file from the machine (search everywhere), and copy to a public site like SkyDrive, and share the link.

    Hi
does anyone know how to fix the message on my iMac:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled."
This is a brand new machine and did not have anything attached to the USB ports"
    Thanks for any help

If you are getting that message on a brand new Mac with nothing connected to the USB ports, take it back. It is broken.

  • My iMac keeps on crushing with this error!  It does that 2 or 3 times a day, it's a brand new machine.

Boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then uninstall and reinstall those, one at a time.. If KP, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by Rember.  See

  • Brand New Machine and Photoshop CS6 running very slow

I just installed Photoshop CS6 on my new Machine and it is running horrible. Moving around objects, turning effects on/off, zooming, and more all take for ever to render.  I can not figure out why. I have updated video card drivers and more. Scratch Disk is set to a second disk and messed with all of the GPU settings. Only photoshop runs bad on this machine. I should not be having issues with the system. Below is the system info from Photoshop. Also this machine is running with two SSD drives which should make PS run even faster.

Tried Photoshop at all sorts of various settings including default. All with the D drive being used for the Scratch disk. Working on the similar size file described above. The file I am working on now is 4000 x 4800 pixels, CMYK, 8 bit depth.  Photoshop is slow selecting layers with auto select, very slow when moving layers around the Canvas, and slow rendering the Canvas when zooming in and out. This document also has about  30 layers and is 80mg.
I only use the 64 bit version of Photoshop these days. Also all three monitors are set at 60 Hertz. Photoshop is closed and reopened upon all changes.
I use to be a Photoshop Certified Expert in CS3 so I am extremely familar with the product. I am just stumped.

  • Migrating to brand new machine with iTunes/iCloud in mind?

Okay all, this might not have been clarified yet by Apple, but here's my question:
I'm finally migrating from an iBook G4 to a MacBook Air as we speak. The vast majority of what's on the HDD on the iBook is music (40 some odd gigs!). The new machine has a 64 GIG HD, which was a very deliberate choice on my end, as I am a major Spotify user and was planning to really run with iCloud for my music needs.
Anyway, question is, does my music have to physically stay on my new HDD in order for iTunes to scan my library and give me availablity to it via the Cloud? For obvious reasons of storage limitations, I couldn't keep all of it on the MacBook just so that I could at some point stream it.
So does/will the Cloud constantly update and check back in with what I've still got physically on my main machine, or could I move it onto the new machine, have iTunes scan it, then move it off, rinse/repeat as necessary?
    Thoughts anyone?
    Thanks...

It would have been wiser to use the TM backup rather than your old machine. Also it would have been wiser to have followed the on-screen directions when the machine first started up in Setup Assistant. In short, let it work and finish, there is no method to speed it up. In the future to gain speed use faster connections such as Firewire, Ethernet or if you can Thunderbolt.
Also you may want to book mark and use Pondini's Lion or Mountain Lion Setup Assistant tips guide.

  • Brand new machines are not able to boot to Disk or Network

    Hi all,
Ok so I have several new iMac's and MacBook Pro's that I am trying to get to boot to the network so that I can run DeployStudio to image with a dual boot OS. I keep running into a problem in which the machine will boot to the HD but will not boot to the network (N key) this also happens when i try to boot to disk (C key) instead the machine just hangs at the white screen. Even when I try options, they system recognizes the CD and network, but when selected will just hang again at the white screen. It seems that the only thing I can get the systems to boot is the HD and target mode (T key).
I had this happen a couple weeks ago with a MacBook Pro and Apple has said it may be a bad logic board and ended up replacing it (still waiting on the replacement). I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue and has found a solution. This problem has been going on for about a month now and is becoming more evident closer the new semester comes. Any help would be appreciated.

My guess is that the upper level IT drones need to create an image that will boot the newest Macs & have not yet done so. See Mac OS X Server: Creating a single NetBoot or NetInstall image for multiple Mac models for more about this. From that source:

Previously, I posted Console does not launch OVM 3.1.1, Win7x32 Firefox15/IE8 - Empty .jnlp file which was about VM Console not launching. Since this is a new installation, and it seemed to be a unique problem, I scratched the whole installation and started again from scratch. Everything, including the NFS file server, was re-installed from scratch CD OS installation.
The process is pretty straightforward once you're used to it, and in less than three hours I was ready again to import my first template (a template I had imported before). But now, I submit the the request, and almost immediately the process aborts. (You can see in the information below, that 1 second passes between the Import request (06:32:36) and the failure.)
Thing is, it takes about three minutes, even locally on the web server, to get an index of that large file (tar tzf), and at completion, the vm config file is listed.
Am I misreading the error? My web searches for enlightenment found only one good hit on this error, and in that case it appeared to be an "out of space" issue. In this case, though, I'm importing a 5GB tarfile into a 390GB, otherwise-empty file system, so I don't think that is the issue. The failure in ovs-agent.log is below. What other information may I provide to get to the bottom of this? (Thanks for any guidance/help, of course!)

How did you get the template to where you staged it?
I'd say the template is corrupt or you only have a partial template.
I did notice the call to the template is based on the short name of the host. Can you confirm the VM manager can access the http path via short name?

  • AE CS5 and CS5.5 crashes on a brand new machine

    Hi,
today I was so happy to install AE CS5  (as a part of the Master Collection) on my new Dell M6600, WIn 7 &4bit, Sp1
    with i7-2920XM processor, 16 GB 1600 MHz RAM,SSD SATA III drive and.....the amazing 4 GB Quadro 5010M
Obviously, I spent some money, but this machine has to work like a horse and AE is not the only load it has to move.
........however, I sadly noticed that After Effects crashes like never before.
I have no idea why, the Nvidia drivers are up to date, also I installed all updates for AE CS5 and I even
installed a test version of AE CS5.5. Same thing:
    - after AE started, it takes at most 30 seconds and it asks me whether I want to save this new project and
I can press any of the 3 options and AE simply disappears.
    - also, when I try import a text file (OK stupid idea just testing it) it disappears immeadiately wiithout saying good bye.
I already disabled and eventually deleted the AE OpenGL plugin, but nothing changes.
Also in the Nvidia settings I even disabled the option to treat AE by this card, that is, it should merely
be use the Intel HD graphics....still same result....of course, I rebooted several times to be sure that
    the changes really apply.
Dell believes it must be the Graphics Card, and although this would be case of warranty, I would like
to ask if any AE expert had an idea whether this is THE solution, otherwise several thousand dollars
would simply be destroyed for no good reason.

Apparently not... Not sure what else to tell you. The more interesting question here would be, whether otehr OpenGL driven programs actually work on the system...

  • Help with usb Midi controller on brand new machine! Please!!

I just unboxed my macbook pro 13" non-retina and updated to 10.9.1, installed a few of my apps, etc.    I'm having a meltdown over my midi-controller not being recognized. It is a Roland A-49 USB Midi Keyboard controller that is not powering on. It runs off bus power just fine in my older 15" MBP and also from my '12 Mac Mini. When I pull up the system profiler, under USB it reads to me:
How can I get this working properly?

Hi there, been a viewer of the discussions here for a while & felt compelled to finally sign up to hopefully offer some help with this problem as I had exactly the same when I first got Logic Pro.
The problem is more to do with the sound setup than the controller keyboard as logic is sensing midi data as you have seen in the transport.
I would suggest firstly (Hopefully Pro & Express are the same in these respects) clicking on the Logic Express tab in the top left, then Preferences, then Audio.
In the box that appears select the Drivers tab. Then make sure that the Core Audio check box is ticked. Under that make sure that you output source is selected (ie your interface if using monitors, or built in Audio if not)
    Hopefully this should help.
The simplest to test your sound is by clicking on the Audio tab (3rd or 4th along at top) & opening the Loop Browser, choosing a catagory & draging a sound onto a track.
Remember to click on the track you will be dragging onto to select it & in the Loop Browser Blue loops go onto audio tracks & green onto instrument tracks.
Now with testing the controler keyboard...
Click on an instrument channel, then goto the bottom left of the screen where you will see that channels fader.
Above the fader click on the I/O (you may have to click & hold here) choose either mono or stereo, then choose say the EXS24 & try you keyboard.
Hit * on the numeric keypad & play something, then hit space to stop & you will have your 1st region.
I hope this helps with you problem, Logic can be confusing at times but is worth sticking with.
    Good luck

  • Are Refurb MB's just as good as the brand new machines?

I just purchase a refurb 2.4 MB, and yes I could have saved 300.00 and gotten the 2.0, but I like the backlit keys...
My question is, has anyone ever had any bad experiences with Apple Refurbs?

At work, we've ordered quite a few refurbished Macs to get the previous model so it will work with our current bundle/image of software. I can say, after purchasing 600 original model Macs and 100 refurbished Macs, they refurbished models haven't had any more issues than the original models. I believe that the refurbished models are a good opportunity.

  • Brand new iMac 24" 2.4 streaked dirty display

Hello: I apologize if this question has been previously asked, it appears that there are many display issues with these new iMacs...
I purchased an iMac 2.4/320GB HD/1GB RAM/256MB VRAM from the MacConnection on October 15, 2008. I've been having some issues with the display and was wondering if I could get any input.
The first problem I noticed when the machine was first powered up, there appears to be a speck of dust that is reflecting off of the glass panes so it actually looks like 2 specs of dust.
The second problem is that a fireworks/spider web type pattern has appeared on the left hand side of the screen (which seems to run a lot warmer than the right hand side) that has emerged in the couple of months I've had it.
Both issues appear to be on the inside of the glass, and earlier today I received instructions from a YouTube video on how to remove the glass with a suction cup. It appears that both of the problems are not on the inside of the outer glass, but they appear to be on the inside of the inner LCD display itself. I've only used the dampened cleaning cloth that came with the machine to clean all of these areas, but the streaks and dust are not going away.
I work with an Apple certified tech who told me to try a product called I-Kleer but it appears that all of the issues are within the inner screen. I'm aware that there's a year long limited factory warranty that comes with these models, I'm wondering if a problem like this would be covered? I did not purchase an AppleCare plan.
Any advice? I have a photo of what the screen is doing if needed.

Hi and thanks for the info. I tried a few things out and resorted to taking it to the Apple store for repair. Good thing I did - they had to replace not only the LCD panel, but the motherboard as well! Didn't have much info but I'm also thinking that a whole batch of them was affected. After a little investigating, it turned out that "spiderweb/fireworks" pattern I was seeing actually turned out to be an outline of my desktop wallpaper photo that was burning into the screen. Took a little while to figure out that was it, but I also started having the same problem some others have had posted in the forums with the screen burn-in. I jumped screens to a site with a dark background, and the eBay logo from the page I was on ten minutes previous jumped up and burned itself in the screen after I closed the window!
That was quite a major replacement of parts for a brand new machine and I'm thinking of selling it now. My model is a 2.4/320/4/256 with a beginning serial number of W8814. Definitely could be in the same lot as yours.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Unable to install Snow Leopard to a brand new Macbook Pro

I have a new MB Pro that I'm unable to install 10.6.3 onto. This is a machine I got for work, and it has a corporate image on it. I thought I'd be able to create an additional partition on the hard drive and do a fresh install of 10.6.3 on it.
If I just put the disc in and boot, holding down <option>, then I can choose the Mac OS Install Disc. However, after a few minutes, the DVD spins down and the machine just sits there.
If I boot into the existing partition, and run the installer from there, I can point it to the new partition and it starts installing. However, with around 36 minutes left, the machine reboots, and ends up sitting on the grey screen with the Apple logo. Again, I can hear the DVD drive spin down.
I tried this with 10.6.0 discs as well, but since this is a brand new machine I realized that it would probably need 10.6.3. Unfortunately, even that isn't working.
Is it possible that our IT department has done something that would prevent me from booting off of install media?
    Thanks for any help...

It sounds like your computer is trying to use the install disk and is having some issues reading it.
Your IT department may have put a firmware password on the computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352) but I don't think this is the case as you are able to use the option key to enter the start up manager and select an install disk an start the boot process.
It might be time saving to just ask your IT department if there is something about the computer's setup that prevents you from booting to an Install disk. A basic task that many users want to accomplish requires that ability, repairing the disk with the install disk: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782
Make sure you are using the original install disk that came with the computer. If you are using the original Mac OS Install disk then check the disk in good lighting for scratches or smudges. A dirty or damaged disk may not respond like it should.
Do you have an original Mac OS X 10.6 Retail Install disk? If so, try using the C key or option key with that disk. It should at least start up using that disk and eventually (1-5 minutes) bring you to the Language Selection screen. If it does then you have dirty or damaged install disk. Try cleaning the disk with a soft, clean, lint-free cotton cloth.
    Hope that helps.
