Disable account but keep e-mail visible

Hey guys & girls
I'm using the latest Mail app for my emails and until now I've been using POP3 account. I have loads of e-mails and also sent items, which i need to keep.
Just today however I did an IMAP account. From now on, i will use this one instead. However I need to jump back and worth to see e-mails i have recieved yesterday and so on. If I disable the account in prefs, it will remove it from the view. If I enable it, for some reasons, all the emails sent will be using this old account. I can not change this so it would use the new IMAP account.
Just to make sure, I have the same e-mail address, just changed POP3 to IMAP.
Is there a way ti disable the account (no more checkin mails and using it to send mails) but keep my inbox and sent items still visible?
thanks!

Is there a way ti disable the account (no more checkin mails and using it to send mails) but keep my inbox and sent items still visible?
Yes, but it does involve some work.
First, you need to move (not copy) the folder for that POP account to your Desktop. Then, in Mail's preferences, delete that POP account entirely. Now you can setup the account as IMAP (although I think you'll regret that in the long run) and let it retrieve whatever email is currently there.
Next, you need to go to File->Import Mailboxes… and navigate to and select the folder that contains the POP mailbox for the messages you want to import; for example: /Desktop/[email protected]/INBOX.mbox/Messages and click Choose to proceed with the process.
When that's done, you'll have an 'Imported' mailbox in Mail, after which you need to create your own new mailbox for those old messages from your Inbox and label it Old Inbox, or something to that effect. Then go to the Imported mailbox and Select All messages in there and drag them onto the icon for the new mailbox you just created for them; they should now all be moved into that mailbox.
Now you can go back and import the other mailboxes (Sent, Drafts, Deleted, etc if you like) one-at-a-time, stopping after each one to create a new mailbox for them and moving the messages into them before proceeding with the next one.
When you're done with that, you can delete the 'Imported' folder(s), then quit Mail and restart it to see if everything is still the way you want it to be. If so, then you can delete the POP account folder you moved to your Desktop previously.

  • Deleted an email account but keeps sending mail from it

    Hi,
I have a problem, I just deleted all my e-mail accounts and created a new one but when i reply some of the emails keep being sent from the old account. I looked everywhere to find some setting linked to that old account but i can't find it. For example:
i had : [email protected] and now i have [email protected] and xxxx@(microsoft exchange adress) . com
and when i reply from the second one sometimes it's being sent from [email protected] and this adress isn't in my accounts anymore.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Two places... Mail Preferences>Composing>Sending>Send new Mail from.
Mail Preferences>Accounts>Account Information>Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): dropdown>Edit Server List, select the one you want & click Remove Server.

  • Deleting a Mail Account But Keeping the Mail From That Account

I want to delete a Mail Account. But, I want to keep all of the email that was associated with that account. If I move the email to another folder within Mail, will that do the trick?

    Stephen Levin wrote:
    OK, I'm totally confused.
Here is what I normally do:
Check my email (all POP accounts).
    It comes into my inbox.
As I deal with a message, I move it from my Inbox to the appropriate folder On My Mac.
That way I end up with just a few emails in my Inbox at any time.
The way I move my messages is I select them and I drag them to the appropriate folder On My Mac.
I know this deletes them from the Inbox and adds them to the folder I am moving them to.
that's moving. when you copy, the original remains in the inbox and a copy is added to the destination folder.
But, I'm pretty sure that when I do so, the Activity Window says I am copying them.
I have several email accounts that people email me at. When I file messages away, they are all mixed up in the folders On My Mac. I have no idea which ones came from which Accounts.
Given all of the above info, if I delete one of my Accounts, will Mail delete some of the emails I have filed away in the folders On My Mac? I think the answer is No, but would like to confirm.
No, once you've moved an email to a local mailbox in "on my mac" it's completely separated from its original email account. if you delete an account it will have no effect on those messages.
I think that the only mail that Mail will delete is the email in the Inbox, Trash, Outbox, and Sent Mail for that Account, but am looking for confirmation.
    that's correct.
If that is the case, I don't care about the Trash, I'll make sure the Outbox is empty, and I'll move all of the messages for that Account out of the Inbox and Sent Mail before I delete the Account.
What do you think, will that work?
yes. sorry for confusing you before. This should work just fine.
My suggestion was simply that you copy messages instead of moving them as you've been doing. once the copy is successful you can delete the originals or just delete the account and the originals with it. you don't have to do it but that's a safer operation then moving them directly when you have to do it with a lot of messages at once. That's all. I've seen posts by people who were trying to move large numbers of emails between mailboxes and had Mail choke on the operation. that can result in a loss of emails.
If not, how can I hide the Account I'm no longer planning on using. Right now Mail keeps trying to check it every time I check my Mail and I get that broken icon next to the folders.
In case the OS matters, I'm running the latest version of 10.5 on a Power PC.
    Thanks!

  • How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

You can migrate a copy of the data to a new account, then delete the other person's data from each account.  To do this, on the phone that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to keep on the phone, save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. If you have any synced notes that you want to keep on the phone, email these to yourself so you can create new notes in the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  You will create a new icloud email address with you turn Mail to On.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).

  • I have imac, macbook, ipad2, 2 iphone 4s and I want to share music, iphoto and apps between all the devices but keep e-mail and contacts separate and use icloud. How can I do that?

i have imac, macbook, ipad2, 2 iphone 4s and I want to share music, iphoto and apps between all the devices but keep e-mail and contacts separate and use icloud. How can I do that?

The ID for iTunes must be the same on both devices for it to automatically download purchases made on the other phone.
For example, if you have been using [email protected] for iTunes, continue to do so. One of you could also use [email protected] for their iCloud account and the other one use [email protected] for theirs, alternatively you could use [email protected] and [email protected] for the two separate iCloud accounts.

  • ICloud says it's sending an e-mail to verify my account but no e-mail arrives, this is very annoying.

I have just downloaded the new OS X Mountain Lion onto my macbook and as I have an iphone and ipad I wanted to setup the iCloud, I have done everything I'm supposed to in the instructions and then I get as far as a screen saying that apple will send me an e-mail to verify my account, but the e-mail never arrives, I've checked the junk mail and I still can't sort it, it's getting a bit annoying now, it's took the best part of the day to put the Lion on and now I feel like it's all been a waste of time   Sorry for the rant I just hope someone out there has the answer.  Many thanks

Sometimes, that email can take quite a while before you see it.

  • HT1373 how can you set up another iTunes account but keep all your purchases and music from a previous account

how can you set up another iTunes account but keep all your purchases and music from a previous account

An iTunes account is something you log into online to buy music.
An iTunes library is a collection of media and other items (including apps) on your computer.  This is what you see when you open iTunes.
So, do you mean account or library?  You can set up a new iTunes account but all your purchases made in that account will remain in the old account and cannot be moved.  You can set up a new library by starting iTunes and immediately hold down the option key.

  • How do I delete an email account, but keep the email?

I have an email account from ISP that I no longer use.  I want to delete the account, but I don't want to lose the email.  How do I delete the account and save all of the email?
Can I create a folder and move all of the email from the account I want to delete to the folder?  From what I've read so far the email would still be deleted from that folder.
This seems like it would be a common occurrence with a lot of people, so I'm surprised that there is not an solution from Apple.  Apple indicates that if an email account is deleted you will lose all of the mail.  There should be an option when you delete the account that asks "Do you what to keep all of the email from this account? Yes/No".  If yes then the system automatically saves email to an archive folder or something similar.
Hopefully there is an easy workaround solution.

Create a new "On My Mac" mailbox and move the messages to it. Then delete the account.

  • Removing email account, but keeping contacts and calendar

I have a work email account setup on my iPad. I have changed jobs and would like to delete the old work account. Is it possible to remove the old email account, but preserve the contacts and calendar information?
    Thanks

Same happening here. Contacts and calendars sync between 2 Macs OK using iCloud. iCloud syncing with iOS devices worked well until Monday afternoon 12/19.
Since then (3 days) mail, contacts and calendars in my iCloud account do not sync to iPhone 4 and iPad. Photo Stream OK.
All software is up to date. Wiped iPhone and started fresh. Still syncing is broken.
OmniFocus, Evernote, Gmail, Dropbox sync OK. Safari works too.
Attempts to delete iCloud from iPhone stall at spinning pinwheel.
Likewise attempts to disable calendar and contacts services stall.
Seems this problem relates to iCloud security on iOS gadgets.
    Still out if sync.

  • I am running 4 ipod classica through one computer and one itunes account/profile.  The ipods belong to me, husband and 2 kids.  How can the kids now get their own accounts but keep the stuff I have already downloaded for them?  They have their own laptops

I am currently running 4 ipod classics through my own account/profile on itunes.  They belong to me, my husband and 2 kids.
The kids are getting older now and have their own laptops.  I would like them to have their own itunes accounts as they will be away from home much of the time and will want to make their own puchases.
How can I set them up so that they are independent from my account, but not lose the content that I have downloaded for them over the years?  (A lot of content).

You and your husband can share a store account and still have seperate iCloud accounts for your contacts, bookmarks and stuff like that.  Click here for instructions to make an apple account without entering a credit card.  Make sure you use a different email address for each apple account.
Set up your iPhone/iPad whatever using the new account for iCloud.  Then go into settings/store and sign in with your purchasing account, you may need to sign out of the other account.  To the best of my knowledge, your household is allowed to share purchased legally, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Once you each have your own devices set to your own accounts you can set them to backup to that account and it will keep all your contacts seperate.

  • I need to make another iTunes account but keep all the purchases from an old account which I shared with my family. Is there any way to do that?

Hello, I am finishing up High School ready to go to college, and I wanted to make a new iTunes account with my billing information so I could start fresh. I have an iPod synced to a current account, and the rest of my family has their computers synced to this universal account as well. What I'm really trying to do is just create a new account, but find a way to move all of my apps, music, and movies to this account as well, all while keeping the old account untouched. Any infromation for this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to anyone who can help

Content can't be moved from the old account to the new one unless the iTunes Store staff says otherwise. You'll be able to use the old content after setting up the new account, but will require the old account's password to be able to update it or make in-app purchases from it.

  • Make personal Itunes account, but keep family account purchases

Hello Apple community! I have an Iphone 4s that's currently connected to my family computer on my mom's account. I am now 17, and I would like to create an account for myself because I am sick of my little sisters spending my gift cards on the latest One Direction/Ariana Grande albums or whatever. So I'd like to keep my own balance, especially since I'll be moving out next year. BUT I don't want to lose my apps, music, TV shows, movies, etc. that I've already bought while on my mom's account. Is there any way for me to make an account for myself but still keep those purchases on my Itunes account? I've read a little about home sharing but I don't understand what it is or if that would help. I'd just like to know the best way to make my own account with a separate balance from them but keep my old purchases.
