Disable adobe updater

    Is there a way to disable adobe update4? I thought I did and it just showed up on my menu bar.
     It seems to affect my photoshop by showing a strange "A" like symbol that flashes on occasion while in Photoshop.
   Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Then you should get the Adobe Update Manager:
Click on the Preferences label (upper right). This will change the page to:
Now uncheck the first box on the left side if you want to turn all notifications off. If you just want notification for one or a couple of the products, just leave only that one(s) checked on the right side.

  • How do I disable Adobe Update??

    I need to know how to disable Adobe Update so it only runs when I want it to run. I saw that my i7-920 24gig machine was using 100% of cpu tonight. Im running on a 12 hour old fresh install of Win7 64bit and was immediately concerned when i saw how much cpu was being used. When I checked system resources, I saw that it was adobe update that was using 99% of all the resources. I cant have this. Please tell me how I can disable adobe update from running without me initializing it.

    Hi Jared,
    Please let us know what product (with version) you have installer.
    You can also follow the article: Disable auto-updates | Application Manager | IT administrators which will help you to disable the updates for all Adobe Products.
    Let us know if that's what you were looking for.

  • Help~How to disable Adobe Updater in Reader 8.*/9.*?

    Does anyone here know how to disable the Adobe Updater by registry or Group Policy?(if possible)
    I won't like to manually disable them by "Help" -> "Check for updates"
    The following registry key only works in 6.*/7.*
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\Updater]
    "bShowInstCompDialog"=dword:00000000
    "bShowNotifDialog"=dword:00000000
    "iUpdateFrequency"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Updater]
    "bShowInstCompDialog"=dword:00000000
    "bShowNotifDialog"=dword:00000000
    "iUpdateFrequency"=dword:00000000
    Help~

    I don't know where that preference item is stored. But if it's in the registry, I would do the following if I were in your situation.
    *export the entire registry
    *set the no-update preference, according to Aaron's suggestion
    *export the entire registry again (to a different name)
    *compare the two files (e.g. with windiff); that should show you what's changed in the registry

  • Need to disable adobe updater in reader 10

    We deploy adobe reader using the MSI in Group Policy.  We just pushed out Reader X.  We also push out updates the same way
    as our users do not have admin rights.  We need to disable automatic updating and checking for updates.  The Customization Wizzard is not available for Reader X yet and the adm file we have for 9 does not seem to work on X.  Anyone have a solution?

    Can you simply set registry using your deployment tools?

  • I have tried EVERYTHING to disable Adobe Updater.

    I have a Windows Vista HP laptop. I don't know when Adobe Updater first started being there, what it came with, but it is there, and it does its thing with every startup. First I just went into its own preferences (where after it's done "searching for updates," you can either hit Quit or Preferences) and told it to only do this once a month (the longest amount of time it offers). And that didn't do anything. So then I went into the control panel and into programs, then change startup programs. From there I found Adobe Updater and clicked "remove." I restarted, it was still there. I did the same thing and hit "disable," restarted, it was still there. I went back and did BOTH, restarted, it was still there. I then went to my system configuration and unchecked Adobe Updater, hit apply, hit OK, said yes to the request to restart, and it was STILL THERE. I did these things over and over again for twenty minutes.
    Please help me get rid of it. Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
    I had the same problem.
    try this:
    1. For PC Operating Systems1
    Open "My Computer" by double-clicking on the desktop icon or clicking on the "Start" menu and selecting the "My Computer" button. Open the drive that contains your Adobe programs. By default, this is the "C" drive.
    2
    Double-click on "Program Files" to view software files installed on your computer. Open the "Common Files" folder by double-clicking on the folder name.
    3
    Locate the Adobe folder and double-click on it to open it. The Adobe folder contains files for all Adobe programs installed on your system. Locate and open the Adobe Updater folder, which will be named "Updater" followed by a version number, such as 5 or 6.
    4
    Locate the executable file titled "Adobe Updater" within the "Updater" folder. Double-click the file to initiate the Adobe Updater application. The program will take a few moments to connect to the Internet to search for updates.
    5
    After it finishes searching, a prompt window will appear to install new updates. Click "Preferences" on the left-hand side and uncheck the "Automatically check for Adobe updates" box. Click "OK" to accept the changes. Adobe Updater will not check for available updates unless manually instructed to do so.
    2. For Mac Operating Systems1
    Double-click on your hard drive's icon on the desktop and select the "Applications" folder from the "Places" menu on the left-hand side. You can also open the "Applications" folder by selecting the folder from the "Go" drop-down menu in the "Finder" menu.
    2
    Scroll through your application icons in the right-hand side of the window to locate the "Utilities" icon. Double-click on this icon to open the "Utilities" folder. Locate and open the "Adobe Utilities" folder.
    3
    Run the "Adobe Updater" application. After the program finishes searching for updates, select the "Preferences" button. Deselect the program's "Automatically check for Adobe updates" box and click "OK." Adobe Updater will now be disabled; any updates to Adobe software will need to be downloaded and installed manually.

  • How do I close/disable Adobe Update Manager from MenuBar?

    Hello,
    I would like to remove the Adobe Update Manager from my menu bar for my Mac. It just really annoys me and I really like a clean menu bar.
    Thanks,

    umm it doesnt work...  I mean getting rid of this

  • How do I disable "Adobe Updater"?

    After installing Reader, my security software keeps telling me that "Adobe Updater" is trying to access the Internet. I prefer to make all updates manually, and not have any programs download and install them by their own direction without my consent. Even after uninstalling Reader, the message still comes up, I assume my Adobe plugins (Shockwave and Flash) are keeping it running. How can I permanently kill this process?

    Should have specified this: I'm running Windows XP.
    EDIT: Heh, figured it out myself by just bothering to glance at the taskbar. Even though the program had been uninstalled, the updater process was stuck in some sort of loop, where it was trying to connect but kept getting denied by my computer. I just had to click cancel to get rid of it.
    It's fine if a mod wants to delete this now.

  • Deploy Adobe Reader on Mac and Disable Adobe Updater

    I am having trouble distributing Adobe Reader for our mac endpoints and configuring it in a way that Adobe never notifies the end user for updates. They are standard users and are not able to update the application anyway. I handle updates via push distribution. The documentation that I have read either isnt clear or hasnt worked in my testing.
    Thanks

    Can you provide a link to what you're reading? It should be the admin guide here: http://www.adobe.com/go/acroadminguide
    If something is not clear, post back.

  • Disable auto-updates/Adobe Application Manager

    there is no forum for this - I use Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 non-CC on macbook pro running 10.8.5 or 10.9.2. I would like to not have AAM search for updates in the background, but initiate the **search** for updates manually. The reason is that I live a bit off the grid and pay quite a lot per minute, and AAM kept the internet connection open the whole night, even though the browser said it was closed.
    I only found instructions for CS5:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/disable-auto-updates-application-manager.html
    does this work for CS6 the same way? I am by no means a system admin but I can replace this AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat file. (and keep the original else where)
    thanks.
    edit: why on earth does adobe insist on displaying my real name in a public forum, when it even asks me to make a screen name first. There is no forum for this either, I guess.

    ... adobe insist on displaying my real name in a public forum...
    that is gone, thanks.

  • Disabling Adobe Reader X updates in an enterprise

    Hi Guys,
    Can anyone tell me where the registry key is to disable updates to the New Adobe Reader X? I have this in place for version 9 but I cannot find the key even after using proxmon to see what Adobe is changing in the registry.
    Is there any new methods of managing an adobe reader in this new version?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    For disabling ReaderX updates following registry entry can be created:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\FeatureLockDown]
    "bUpdater"=dword:00000000
    Hope that it will be useful. Thanks

  • Adobe Update Manager Disabled using Packager

    Hi,
    I installed CC Apps by use of a package created with Creative Cloud Packager.  I had the "Adobe Update Manager" set to Disabled. Also, "Disable Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Application" was checked.
    Now that the apps are installed, is it possible to have them Auto-Update again?  I downloaded the Creative Cloud Desktop App and installed it, but it doesn't even see that the apps are already installed, and wants to install them all over again.
    Any ideas besides re-creating the packages and re-installing everything?
    Thanks in advance,
    James

    Hi JamesAcart,
    Please follow these Steps to enable the the Adobe Update feature.
    Windows:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AAMUpdaterInventory\1.0
    In this location please look for the ‘AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.DAT’ file and open this file with notepad.
    After opening the file in notepad you can find below mentioned code.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Preferences>
                  <Suppressed>1</Suppressed></Preferences>
    Change the Suppressed value from 1 to 0 and save the file at the same location.
    Same steps applied to Macintosh in the below mentioned location.
    Mac:
    Go to – Main HD /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0

  • Adobe updater, how to disable?

    Hi! I would like to disable the adobe updater for good, I find it annoying.
    I did not find an application called Adobe Updater anywhere on my hard drive.
    Where the xxxx is it? Is there one per application, one for all?
    I know I can go in the preferences of EACH of the CS programs and disable automatic look

  • Disable automatic updates in Adobe Reader DC?

    Is it possible to disable automatic updates in the Adobe Reader DC? It's not under preferences where it used to be.

    In an academic environment, the inability to disable updates is unacceptable.  We have numerous computers that we intentionally never update.  For example, all student computers never update; they are frozen with a program called DeepFreeze.
    And even for our employee machines, no users have admin rights, so they cannot update the program themselves.
    In addition, registry hacks are an unacceptable alternative to us.  If something goes wrong, we have to explain to our CIO that we used a registry hack, and that is not going to go over well.
    For now, we are going to hold off upgrading to the DC version until Adobe implements an official way to disable updates.  If they refuse to implement an official method in the coming months, we'll just start using the browsers' built-in PDF readers and not install Adobe Reader at all.
