Disable "Allow automatic sync while roaming " in iOS5?

Hi! I would like to know in detail what happens if i disable "Allow automatic sync while roaming " in iOS5?

According to what I can find, it prevents activesync from automatically synchronizing mail, calendars and contacts when the phone roams onto a different carrier network. It can still be synced, but it must be done manually by the user. The intent is to help control data roaming charges.

  • Will I be able to disable the automatic icloud sync between devices?

What I want to know from looking at the keynote speech it looks like if I buy a song on my phone or ipad it will also get downloaded to my son's iphone even though he may not want the sond and vice versa. I hope there will be a way to disable the automatic sync between devices because in theory it sounds good but when you have several ios devices in the family they usually don't want to have the same music that I listen too. I have a MBA, Iphon4, and Ipad and would not mind all of them syncing together but my son's iphon 3GS does not need to be synced with the other devices. I didn't hear anything about being able to disable it and if someone knows can they let the rest of us know. Thanks.

Yes you can disable it. Also since it's free for all of those services, and you want different content on your devices, you could just setup an Apple ID for your son so that their content will be synced among their devices and you can still benefit from all the iCloud goodness. The only downfall to this is that the content that you may want to share would have to be purchased twice. I'm hoping they add support for "Family Groups" for iCloud services so you can have a shared Apple ID for content on up to 10 devices while also giving the flexibility for having sub-ID's to differentiate who's devices are who's.
That is exactly what I am talking about. I know you can share your purchases through several devices and some of the app store stuff my son and I share with no problem. I just hope that sharing is ok. Also using picture flow could be bad too. What if I want to take a picture that I don't want on any other device. This is all good but sounds like they didn't think this through all the way before implementing it. I am a mobileme subscriber and have been for 2 years and I liked iDisk. There was nothing wrong with the way it worked as I could set up iDisk only on my devices and my son's would not be affected. Like I said good idea but for some of us we may not want stuff out on the cloud automatically.
Also I can see some folks up in arms about privacy issues just like they did with the tracking issue. I am thinking I will turn this service off on all my devices until I get more information about it after it is implemented.

  • Mail for Exchange sync in roaming

Upgraded mail for Exchange to 3.00.050 on N82.
Despite 'Sync while roaming' is set to No synchronisation is still taking place, in version 2.x it was behaving as expected. Same trouble for anybody?

    Hi!
Normally, the options are Yes, No and in peak only.
But the exchange administrator can enforce the client the default option, so even if you want to select yes, if the exchange server config is set to NO, you can not change it.
Tra to contact your exchange admin for further details.

  • Hello.. I have one problem. I used automator to automaticly sync my photos to iphoto. Now I don't want it any more. How can I disable it?

Hello.. I have one problem. I used automator to automaticly sync my photos to iphoto. Now I don't want it any more. How can I disable it?

If you have iPhoto v9.6.1 then just launch it. Done.
    IF you don't, download it:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • "automatically sync when this iphone is connected" disabled

The "automatically sync when this iphone is connected" checkbox in iTunes 12 is disabled, i.e., greyed out. How to enable this?

If your device is set up for manually syncing then doesn't it make sense for automatic syncing to be disabled? Either way you are safer if you have to initiate a sync by pressing the sync button.

  • Feature Request Desktop Client: Disable Automatic Sync Over Cellular

    Hello,
it is possible to implement the a similar function for windows client like on ipad / android?
Our sales-team members are often online over cellular network, only in the evening they use wifi / lan. The problem is, there is a download-limit over cellular network, and this is reached really quick with the data from mobile docs.
    Regards
    Christian

    Hi Ashawani,
    thank you for your response.
I think this function is good, but in our case unfeasible. Mobile Docs starts automaticly with the laptop, and the sync is already in progress before you can interrupt it.
Really nice would be, if u can administer in the central administration that windows clients can only automaticly sync, if it is connected to wifi or cable-network.
Another option could be, that there is an addidional option in the synchronisation settings for the time intervalls.
    Every 5 Minutes
    Every 10 Minutes
    etc..
    Only Manual Sync

  • Urgent Situation Itune's Ability To Sync While In Locked Mode.

Salutations to all members of the apple community, i am the owner of an Iphone 5 which i recieved as a magnificent christmas gift in 2012-2013.
I have always been very satisfied with it, using it on a daily basis for everything from simple communications and more.
I am a musician and writer and having discovered the astounding quality of the microphone I began using it extensively for musical creation, my notes section is an archive of full chapters of the things i write, notes that are completely and utterly essential to me.
I have hundreds of hours(a years worth of music) on this telephone that is not backed up in any way.
The other night, while my girlfriend hosted an art show i left my cellular phone to charge with a group of friends, as a precaution i added a passcode, as i have done very often when leaving my phone to charge in a populated place, despite knowing the people I prefer keep the intimacies of my virtual palace to myself.
Here comes the part youve all been waiting for, I must have typed the code in too quickly, and upon returning was denied access, Initially, i didnt panic, i retried the code many times, after having been locked out a couple times i was starting to get stressed. I looked it up on the internet and discovered that after a certain amount of attempts all of my data would be deleted. Now i started to freak out, I called TELUS, my phone providers and they obviously couldnt help me out on the issue.
I take extremely good care of my phone and assure myself it is always in a safe spot, when it is not on me, deep in a pocket it is being watched out for, and i very rarely add music from itunes, when i do connect it to my computer i go directly into the harddrive to transfer photos, I never saw any reason for synchronising or backing it up, after all, I am the legitimate owner of the device, if ever i were to be locked out all Id need to do is prove it is INDEED mine.
I did some researching on the internet and found this page on your websites: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
    HALLELUJIA!
All I have to do is connect it to a computer I have synced with before and It will create a backup before restoring and resetting the the device.(in the use ITunes Section)
When I try this my computer asks me if I wish to allow the iphone to access the computer, i click yes and i arrive at a window that says i have to confirm access on my Iphone, that just loads and loads. How am I to do this if my Iphone is locked. I returned to the page i reread:
Connect the device to the computer you normally sync with.
Open iTunes. If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you've synced with. Otherwise, follow the "Use recovery mode" section below.
iTunes will automatically sync your device and create a backup. If it doesn't, sync the device with iTunes.
It seems something has changed because what this help page describes is impossible.
I went into technical support with someone from Montreals Istore and didnt get any more help, I am perfectly capable of proving I am the legitimate owner of this device, when I go into Itunes my phone appears in the list of devices, so i dont understand why suddenly my computer is asking for persmission to access my phone, should it not be immediately recognised since there are earlier backups in the system.
Is it because my last backup was in 2013, because trust me if i had known that time affected itunes ability to detect something that clearly appears in its records of previous synchronisations, like an old person, i would have been backing it up all the time. Is it an iOS update that has negated the functionality of the steps you give on the page i linked you to below.
I absolutely refuse to lose a years worth of work because of an IOS update that has outdated the solutions given by technicians.
I am willing to provide any documentation to prove this is my device, i could even confirm the contents without having access, in great detail, I cannot believe there is not way of accessing my data by means of apple proffessionals with all of this new forensic technology being used by law enforcement to do exactly that. My last backup was the 28th of september 2013, I CANNOT lose everything I have created since then. If it means performing a massive system restore on my computer so my bloody itunes recognises my cell as a device it has already synchronised with i will, I must.
    Please Please Please help me.
    Have a beautiful day.

No. Even with proof that it's yours, they can't bypass the passcode. All they could do is what you can do yourself, which is restore the phone in recovery mode, which will wipe all of the information.
There is no magical hidden backup. An earlier version of iTunes won't do you any good at all.
If you didn't back it up, the data is going to be lost.
Unless you can convince the NSA or FBI that you're a terrorist and you have recorded plans for an attack in the voice memo app... you'll probably have to wait a while to actually get the data back though.

  • Changing to manual sync while the ipod is NOT connected?

I was trying to find out if there was a way to change the iPods setting to sync manually (or only for selected material) without connecting the iPod to the Mac.
I do not want to loose high score settings on some games. As far as I can tell I can change settings only when the iPod is connected to my Mac, and when I connect it will initiate an automatic sync all as that was the setting when last connected to the Mac!
Is there anyway to change the setting to manual without having the iPod connected? Alternatively, is there anyway to disable sync, or cancel sync before connecting the iPod?

*Is there anyway to change the setting to manual without having the iPod connected?*
    No there's not
*Alternatively, is there anyway to disable sync, or cancel sync before connecting the iPod?*
Yes there is. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. You should then be able to change your settings: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.3

  • I plugged in my Ipod and it is not automatically syncing

Cpl of problems.  I plugged my Ipod into the USB cable connected to my PC.  I Tunes opens automatically but it does not sync.  There are no new updates & I used my Ipod today without any problems.   The battery is fine as it fully charged while plugged in to the PC.
I then unplugged the IPod and attempted to listen to music from Itunes.   I can open the I Tunes Store, but nothing else.  When I click on "Purchases", Music, etc. I simply get a red circle with the line through it.   Everything is frozen with the exception of the store???
    Help!

Are you positive your iPod is configured to sync automatically with your iTunes library?  Meaning the Manually manage music videos option is not enabled from under your iPod's Summary tab?
Check to make sure automatic syncing has not been disabled via iTunes preferences.  To check, head to Edit -> Preferences -> Devices, and make sure the Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing setting is disabled.
As for the 2nd issue, can you provide some sort of screen shot and step by step process of exactly what you are trying to do?

  • Automatic syncing between devices

    Hi all,
I have a MBP with 10.8.2 and an iphone and ipad, both with iOS 6.  I love the iCloud integration.  But, one thing that bugs me is that I can't get the various updates to my calendars and contacts to automatically sync.
For example, let's say I add an event on my calendar using my MBP.  This event will show up on my mobile devices, but ONLY after I open the Calendar app on each device.
Is there any way to have the various devices check for updates every so often so that everything remains in sync?
    Thanks!

Kind of solved my own problem by updating the IP wirelessly (6.1.4).  Then in plugging the IP into my MBA, I was able to get to the pull down menu that allows transfer of programs and apps to my MBA.
While I can see the advantage of being able to update the IP wirelessly, I much prefered the old iTunes interface that among other things, made it easy to "eject" the IP from being wired up to my MBA.

  • Activesync - long delays in email delivery while roaming / local activesync log on BB10-device?

    Hi,
A couple of our users are experiencing serious delays in email delivery on their BDS-controlled Z10s while roaming. With "serious" I mean delays in the magnitude of hours. This is something however that purely relates to Z10 and the way message sync is done (activesync)
Since we've got both legacy (OS7) devices and BB10-devices on our network I can confirm that email delivery on the legacy devices happens instantly while BB10-devices experience the above mentioned delays when roaming.
    So here are my questions:
Anybody else experiencing this problem (I saw a post under BB10 automatic sync not working while roaming in US mentioning US roaming problems, but in our case it's Europe and travelling between European countries)
Is there a way to get an activesync-log from the Z10s itself showing dates/times of activesync and error-messages respectively? (Afaik the phone has an end-to-end-connection to the activesync/exchange server) - on other platforms (IOS, Androids) you can find a local activesync log on the smartphone so I'm positive that something like this must be present on BB10 too.
Any known cure - or at least an idea how to track this down?
Thanks much in advance for any clue
    -bblacksheep

I don't know if my situation is related or not, but I have (since Friday) been experiencing delays with Gmail on my Z10. However, it's not universal. I have 9 Gmail accounts, and only a subset are affected by delays, while others receive everything immediately. They are all integrated via ActiveSync, and delivery elsewhere (e.g., Outlook client, Gmail webmail inteface) is not affected.
If the problem affected all of my Gmail accounts the same, I might believe that the problem is with BB or my carrier services. But, since it's only affecting a subset, I instead believe my issues to be rooted at Google. Given all they have recently done to alienate the BB platform, I'm actually not terribly surprised either.
Note that no roaming is involved...this is on home network carrier and also almost completely on WiFi. No changes have been made to the configuration...but this behavior started suddenly on Friday. Eventually, everything gets delivered and reconciled...but on some accounts, the delay is quite large.
If your issues can be narrowed down so as to truly know a root cause, and that root cause results in being something in the BB device, OS, or infrastructure, then you need to contact your mobile service provider for formal support and potential escalation up to BlackBerry for enhanced support.
    Good luck!

  • Games won't sync, ipod insists on automatic sync

I had some work done on my PC and the tech reformatted the hard drive after backing up my itunes library. After the library was reinstalled from backup, I downloaded and re-installed the latest version of itunes.
Unfortunately, when I connected my Ipod, it immediately tried to synch with the library. It gave me an error on the 4 games I had : PacMan, Sodoku, Tetris and Vortex. They have been deleted from my iPod and I can't get them to load back on.
The reason given is "Unknown Error -39".
How do I put these games back on my ipod? I also don't understand why it is automatically sync-ing every time I connect up either when I have all the check boxes set to allow me to manually sync. Please help.

Although I'm not 100% certain, this might have something to do with Windows Fast User Switching. Go to to control panel/user accounts/change the way users log on and off, and disable fast user switching. Can't hurt to try.

  • I lost my itunes after syncing and older iphone to my powermac g4.  Originally I had an older ipod nano that I would sync to the g4 and everything was fine. Lost itunes music even though preferences had been set in advance for not automatically syncing.

My itunes library had been fine.  I had been using an older ipod nano to sync with my itunes library and had been doing manual syncs, with the preferences in itunes set for not allowing "ipods or iphones" to sync automatically.  I found out that apple had a program to replace the battery on this older ipod nano, so I sent it in.  It was great, they didn't have an exact replacement and sent me a later ipod nano.  However, this ipod nano is so new - I will have to get a newer computer with a later operating system to use it.
So, I thought I'd use my old iphone to listen to my old playlists.  I thought the preferences were set for not automatically syncing iphone to itunes.
I've had problems in the past with the syncs with this iphone and my computer because of the USB port (1.1).  I'm thinking this was the problem.
The apple store did something to update the software on my iphone when it wasn't working one day. I think that when I tried to sync the iphone to the g4 cube via the old port (1.1) it basically wiped out everything on my itunes.  Whatever was my selected playlist for my iphone - that was the only music
that remained on my computer and the iphone.  I only had about 20 songs purchased on my library, but alot of music that had been downloaded, I gave away those original cds.  I did have a back up on my external drive, but that thing died a few weeks ago from some random power outtages we had this fall.
I'm not looking to purchase retrieval software or have some outside third party to retrieve it for me.  It's not that much music lost.  I just wanted confirmation that this is what happened: that my old iphone sync is what erased the music.

The old iTunes library was lost with the old PC.  However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • When I click on Firefox, the page comes up as "work offline" and I have to uncheck this option under "File" before I can get on line. How can I disable this automatic start option "work offline"?

Firefox starts up "Work offline" and I am notified "Having trouble loading page." I am then advised to "uncheck" the "work offline" option and "retry" getting connected to the internet. I would like Firefox 4 to automatically come up as a Browser on line, just as 3.6 did. How can I achieve this goal? Is there a way to disable the automatic "offline" start-up?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
