Disable alt text in firefox

is there a way to disable alt text to appear when an image is loading in firefox ? i hate it when my connection is slower to see the text before the image

Hello 100k, this options does not exist, why do not try to make a little faster the image loading ?
go to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config] find the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.http.pipelining network.http.pipelining] and '''double-click on it''' to make it '''true'''.
then, always in about:config, find [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.http.pipelining.maxrequests network.http.pipelining.maxrequests] and '''right-click on it''', select '''modify''' and put '''8''' as a value and click '''OK'''.
thank you

  • Alt text in firefox

I'm trying to get alt text to display in firefox and it
    doesn't seem to support it?
can anyone suggest a fix for this?
    Thank you very much M

There is no fix per se. Firefox actually is doing this
    correctly.. it's IE
    that gets it wrong
Take a look at this thread when this question has been asked
    before.. it
    explains it all :-)

  • ICloud disables 'ALT' key in Firefox

I use Firefox to access iCloud.com but it appears to disable the 'Alt' key which I use to access the Menu bar in Firefox
Anyone else found this? On any other page I hit Alt and the Menu Bar appears so I can then go to Bookmarks etc but doesn't work on iCloud.com
Any suggestions welcome....I can set Firefox to always show Menu Bar but would prefer not to in a bid to keep things tidy.

There's a bug in Firefox for Android that means you need to hold the ALT key down *while* pressing the number key (unlike other Android apps where you can release the ALT key before pressing the next key). Does this work for you?
We will fix the bug in a future release, so that the keyboard will work just like in other Android apps.

  • Is there any way to disable the setting (?) in version 28.0 that blocks the exchange of text between Firefox and other software?

Since version 28.0 of Mozilla Firefox, our word prediction software Skippy can no longer interact with Mozilla. It seems like additional security measures were taken to disallow software from picking up what is being typed and sending new text to Firefox. Is there any way to circumvent this or is there an advanced option that can disable this functionality? Or could there be any other cause?
    Thank you

  • Alt text not appearing in WebHelp output

We are using FrameMaker 10 and RoboHelp 9 to output as WebHelp. In the FM files, I have added alternate text to anchored frames containing images. When I update the linked FM files in my RH project, the screen tip is empty for these images, but when I look at the HTML source for the topic, it shows that the alt text is there:
<p class="widegraphic"><img alt="Coach completes form and can either submit now or save it as a draft, edit it, and submit it later. After submit, employee receives task or alert notification, and coach receives task notification. Coach can still edit form at this point. Employee acknolwedges form and completes tasks, and employee task changes to complete. Coach completes task, and task status changes to complete. Lastly, coach receives alert or message notification.  "
                                 id="image2" src="using_bpl_form00003.jpg"
                                 style="margin-bottom: 6pt;" border="0" />&#160;</p>
When I preview the topic in RH and hover my mouse over the image, the alt text appears in the preview window as expected, both in the default window and when I choose to preview in Firefox and IE. However, when I generate the WebHelp and hover my mouse over the images, nothing shows up at all, and the alt text is replaced by the file name:
    <p class="widegraphic"></p>
    <div align="left"><img alt="using_bpl_form00003.jpg" style="margin-bottom : 6pt; " id="image2" src="using_bpl_form00003.jpg" />
    </div>
If, however, I manually copy and paste the alt text into the screen tip field of the image in the RH topic, the alt text does appear in the WebHelp output:
<p class="widegraphic"><img alt="Coach completes form and can either submit now or save it as a draft, edit it, and submit it later. After submit, employee receives task or alert notification, and coach receives task notification. Coach can still edit form at this point. Employee acknolwedges form and completes tasks, and employee task changes to complete. Coach completes task, and task status changes to complete. Lastly, coach receives alert or message notification.  "
      id="image2" src="using_bpl_form00003.jpg"
title="Coach completes form and can either submit now or save it as a draft, edit it, and submit it later. After submit, employee receives task or alert notification, and coach receives task notification. Coach can still edit form at this point. Employee acknolwedges form and completes tasks, and employee task changes to complete. Coach completes task, and task status changes to complete. Lastly, coach receives alert or message notification."
      style="margin-bottom: 6pt;" border="0" />&#160;</p>
This seems like a pretty major bug to me. I know there have been scripts developed to delete the alt text so that graphic filename won't show up as the alt text, but is there anything that will take the existing alt text and populate the screen tip/title property with it, which seems to be the key to getting this to work in the output? There's no way I can manually copy and paste all the alt text into the images in RH, especially because I'll just end up having to redo it every time I update the linked FM files.
    Thanks,
    Jackie

    Hi Jackie,
Offhand, your ALT string seems long. A quick search yielded info at http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/images/images_famsupp_85.html
If a lengthy description is needed to describe the image, use the LONGDESC attribute to point to the URL of another page which has the lengthy description. Because LONGDESC is not yet sufficiently supported, also follow the image with a "D-link". A D-link is a standard anchor link with contents consisting of the capital letter "D", like this:
Do you experience the same behavior with short alt strings as well?

  • Since this morning all text in firefox look slightly different - I think it still uses the same font, but renders it differently.

Since this morning all text in firefox looks slightly different - I think it still uses the same font, but renders it differently!? I would like to have it changed back to what it was. Any help is welcome.
    Some facts:
    - Happens only in Firefox (IE & Chrome still look the same)
    - Already did a reset to defaults
I'm using the latest version of Firefox
Screenshot can be found here: [http://www.ka-pow.net/media/images/firefoxissue.jpg link text]

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View/Beeld > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)
Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools/Extra > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.

  • Image title tooltip (not alt text) doesn't work

There are half a dozen or so existing help requests mentioning alt text or discussing problems with the Google Toolbar add-on, but this is not my issue, so I am opening a separate help ticket.
If you are here about "alt" text, first read any of the posts explaining that "alt" text isn't supposed to appear, it's just a quirk of IE that it sometimes does, FF4 is correct and does what the standards ask and what other browsers do. You want "title" text. The best explanation seems to be:
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/804893
If you have the Google Toolbar installed, turn it off and see if you get them back. This is a known issue, eg:

Now, still not getting tooltip popups for here or here?
    http://www.xkcd.com/

Neither was I. I *did* get them in safe mode, but I did a lot of resetting and mucking about without any luck. In the end, after doing a text diff between safe mode and not, of the Troubleshooting information (in the Help menu), I found that the issue might be Direct2D-related, and changed the flag "gfx.direct2d.disabled" to true in about:config. I now have tooltips back but a less efficient FF4.
Hope that this helps someone, and hope that the Direct2D issue gets sorted out!

  • Slanted text in Firefox

Boss's Macbook about 2 years old, snow leopard.
text input into the search field of a google textbox field is rendered as slanted, small font and illegible, but  results in a correctly rendered search results page.
When i mouse over the scroll bar, i can see the scroll bar become slanted, then the entire page becomes slanted making it very difficult to read. This problem doesn't occur in Safari.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Ray

hello, please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general.

  • Large alt text for pdf images

I'm trying to include alt text for my pdf images but the text is over the character limit.  Is there any way to include longer alt text (for example through the use of an external file and a longdesc tag) in a pdf, or am I basically stuck with the character limit no matter what I do?

Does anybody at Mozilla read this or is it just for venting frustrations?
Alt-text is NOT just for when the image can't be displayed. For instance, in my work I use a particular kind of colour palette. It used to be that when I hovered over the little square showing the colour, that the colour number would appear. It's the ONLY way to know what colour you're dealing with, in this case.
This used to be available in Firefox, but suddently it disappeared. This is forcing me to use Safari, which has this feature. But I prefer to work with Firefox.
    This is very frustrating!!!

  • Alt text

I am new to web design and you helpful people have already
solved one problem for me, now I have another one...my alt text is
not showing on mouse over in IE6, and ideas?

I have the same problem in the latest SAFARI 4.0.3  and in FIREFOX and in OPERA....  I tried them all.
I took Matthew's advice but the dash had to be an equal sign.
This gives the "title" the "hover over function" for any image you choose, (that the ALT TEXT feature should have given it.)
I left the ALT TEXT info in there, too, in case it works on mobile phones.
Worse scenario, it will show a double hover over on the mobile. At least the info should be there, and it is now on the browser when you check it.
    I added the code below....
    title="Your title goes here"
( I placed it just in front of the         alt="..........."   )
By the way.....  MY F12 never worked on my IMAC. I have an older extended key board, because the new wireless had fewer F keys and other features were missing, so I use an older wired keyboard. So, to check the ALT TEXT features workability, I had to set up the FUNCTION KEYS in Dreamweaver, and when I go to CHECK BROWSER I must use OPTION and F12, and it now works fine!!!
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SITE!  AND THANK EVERYONE OUT THERE ANSWERING OUR QUESTIONS. YOU SAVED ME HOURS OF PAIN!!

  • Alt Text and images

Can anyone point me in the direction to force users to use alt text with images in Portal content areas to meet with W3C compliency?

    Hi marjar
Thank you for your reply, I see now that the URL in IE has http// but in firefox (like this URL https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/989394?) shows as https// why is that? and this must be why my ALT and external links in my images do not work in Firefox. However my internal links do work except for the ALT. Is there a way or a plugin for Firefox that I can instal to make my site compatible to https// ?

  • How can I disable copy text?

While scrolling up and down a site using Firefox for Android, the copy and paste text mode often starts without me wanting it.
Typically I then cannot get rid of the copy and paste arrows. Clicking on another part of the screen simply moves the arrows to a different place.
Is there a way I can disable copy text?

  • Enabling alt-text pop ups

While I generally use Firefox, one of the features I find useful in Internet Explorer 8 is that "alt text" appears as a small popup on mouse-over. I've searched Firefox and Firefox Help to see if there was a feature that could be enabled for this, but have not found any references at all to alt-text. Can Firefox show "alt text"? If not, is there an add-on? If not, please submit this as a suggested feature to add in future releases.

title= was introduced later for images, and Firefox being the stickler for standards will show the title but not the alt="descriptive text"
The alt= is what shows if the image does not appear (no found, for instance),, it was/became a requirement because it supposedly would help blind people read the pictures -- that was dropped (there are better methods) and so was the requirement that alt= be always used. The two are not the same thing.
If you want to show Alt= in addition to titles there is an extension, it is messy and I believe one I tried placed a tooltip that couldn't be dismissed once you moused over it -- I'm sure it improved or others have done better. Anyone writing code now should certainly be using title.

  • How do I get Alt text to show in DreamweaverCC

Please excuse my ignorance. I would like to know how to get the Alt text to show when hovering over images. It use to happen naturally in Dreamweaver 3, but now in the latest CC version it doesn't seem to work. I use it to link images to pages so when some one hovers over an image the finger points but no text appears? Is there a setting I have missed as I can't type in the code as I'm a novice? Any advice would be appreciated. The pages are all htm.

    Hi Atrforrooms,
Use Image Property Inspector dialog in Dreamweaver CC. There is title field, whose value will be displayed on hovering over the image.
Below is the snapshot for better understanding and title is highlighted there. Try this and let us know if that worked for you.
    Wish you luck.
    thanks,

  • My sites have been hacked and hostgator has told me to "Disable javascript - Use the firefox addon noscript" and I don't know how to. Are all updates always sent to me as that was another point made to prevent hackers? Thanks you. David. in English

What are malicious scripts and what causes them? Over the years hackers found it hard to trick people into visiting suspicious sites so they're now targeting legit sites and using them to infect unknowing customers. In most cases an FTP account's password is obtained through key logging malware, then legit website files are modified to distribute the malware and gather more passwords. If your PC has been infected with one of these trojans, your bank account, email accounts, and FTP accounts may no longer be secure. * What to do if you find malicious scripts 1. Use the following online vulnerability scanner and ensure your software is up-to-date: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/?task=load 2. Download antivirus and fully scan your PC for malicious files. Here are some free online scanners: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml 3. Update all passwords that may have been obtained. Do not use old passwords, generate new ones. 4. Upload older versions of the files or contact support for assistance removing the malicious scripts. * Prevention - Ensure you use the latest browser version - Disable javascript - Use the firefox addon noscript - Download and install some free antivirus software, make sure it stays updated - Use http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=avg&action=onlinescan to test suspicious links you are given in emails or find online. If you are seeing a Google Attack Page when you visit the site, use the steps below to request that Google reindex the site and hopefully remove this block. This excerpt was copied from the URL below, and provides step by step instructions to request a delisting. http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=45432 Once you have reviewed your site and are sure it is clean, you can can submit a request for review. On the Overview page, click Request a review and follow the instructions. Best regards, Tyler Evans Network Security Administrator HostGator.com LLC http://support.hostgator.com

    Thank you.
I also had tried other means of getting answers and got an even more specific answer on just how to do this.  Below is the link to the actual knowledgebase article giving specific instructions since there are some files that need to be on the Palm and some on the card, etc.
    http://support.laridian.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=380&ratingconfirm=...
I emailed Zondervan to see if they might be able to direct me to a downloadable manual.  The referred me to laridan.com who now supports their software.
I followed the instructions, taking into account some things that were already where they needed to be, hot synced it and it seems to be working fine with 7.8 M free space on my Palm which I trust is enough for my other very large applications.
    Thanks for your help!
