Disable app  automatic launch

Hello all !
I have this app (camera window), to help download photos from my canon. It's fine but it does start without warning every time I plug my camera on.
Is there a way to disable that automatic launch ?
Thanks for help.
MJ

have you tried changing that setting in image capture? my iphone would open iphoto every time i plugged it in and it used to drive me crazy. i opened image capture preferences and told it to open no application when a camera is plugged it. might work.

  • How can I disable iPhoto automatic launch?

    Hi,
I do not use iPhoto to import my digital images. How can I disable the automatic launch when I plug my camera or card reader?
    Thanks!

    Hi Paul,
To do this just open Image Capture, open its preferences and then under the general tab you can select the option of "When a camera is connected, open:"
Just select no application and that should do it.

  • App. automatically launches, but not listed in accounts/startup items

I have a pesky application which automatically launches on start-up, yet it's not listed in accounts/startup items. It's called Microtek scanner finder. I seem to remember it started doing it when I originally got the scanner and installed software, and although it's always niggled I didn't mind when I was using the scanner. However, I'm not using the scanner anymore so want to be rid of it in my dock. Where the heck is it coming from? I don't want to chuck all the software as there may be an occasion where I need to scan a transparency, when I'll need to get the old scanner down from the loft... any ideas? It definitely launches as there is a little black triangle beneath the icon in the dock. If I quit it, it disappears but is back there again on another start-up grrrrr.

Hi, Kathykate. I have a similar Epson Scanner Monitor application that starts up each time I restart my computer. (Mine does appear in Sys Prefs > Accounts > my account > Startup Items, so I could delete it from there if I wanted to.) It runs all the time in the background, using a tiny amount of CPU and memory, and it has no user interface at all: If I quit it, nothing visibly changes, and if I open it again, there's no visible sign that it's open (including no icon in the dock for it). Its only function is to detect my Epson Scanner when I plug it in and turn it on. I ignore it the rest of the time, because whether it's running or not has no impact whatsoever on anything I do. I suggest that you take the same attitude toward your Microtek app.

  • App to automatically launching apps on a schedule?

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I recently upgraded to 10.5 and Cronnix doesn't work anymore. So now I need an app that would allow me to make other apps automatically launch at a certain time.
I normally used this for iCal. I had it so it would launch as I was waking up, and when I go to the computer, my schedule is sitting there in my face. Very handy for a forgetful person like me. Now I think I could make an event for every single day in iCal do this, but that seems like an excessive solution.
Is there a replacement for Cronnix (which is no longer being developed)? Any ideas or redirections would be greatly appreciated. (and I really don't know much about scripts, but if I have to learn, so be it.)
    Thanks.
    I'm on a G5 quad running 10.5.8.

You can do it with iCal. Set up one event, then Edit (or +Get Info+ on) it. There's a Repeat option, with various selections.

  • How do i disable automatic launch of open programs on startup

how do i disable automatic launch of open programs on startup

    It's the Resume feature.
When choosing Restart, Sleep or Shutdown there is a checkbox you can uncheck to prevent the apps from launching.
Also in System Preferences > General there is a hard-to-find checkbox under "Number of recent items" you can turn off.
Also, you can hold the shift key to disable resume on a one time basis.
You can turn off Resume globally by going to ~/Library/Saved Application State and deleting that folder.
(note that the User Library is hidden - one way to get there is to go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library")
To turn off autosave and versions globally
If you're experiencing slow opening apps or windows since upgrading to ML... as I have... and you don't want your OS to automatically save your TextEdit files, etc. then simply disable Autosave and Versions via Terminal.
If you don't want autosave or resume you can copy & paste this command into Terminal at the prompt...
defaults write -g ApplePersistence -bool no
    Press return
    Now reboot.
    The reverse would be "yes".

  • How to disable automatic launch of WIE in startup configuration with no options to do so?

    Thinkpad T400 2764CTO running Windows 7 Home Premium 64
PC only 2 weeks old, very little on it, but getting slower and slower. Finally found the configuration for the startup menu and disabled several things I knew I didn't want at startup. One problem that I can't seem to figure out, is how to disable Windows Internet Explorer from being launched at startup? I have tried disabling every Microsoft option, and it still launches. Is there a specific Lenovo option [that does not obviously have anything to to with WIE] in the startup menu that, if disabled, will stop the WIE browser from being launched? How do I know which options are not safe to disable when attempting to slim down startup configuration for faster/more reliable performance?
    Thanks,
    Ann

Either I *completely* misread your instructions; that fix is major overkill for what I was trying to do; that fix does not apply to my problem; that fix is only for XP or Vista and not W7; or my PC is already so messed up (despite clean hardware diagnostics, no viruses, no malware, and it is only 2 weeks old), that it performed unexpected and unwanted actions when trying to use the Windows features on/off program control panel options.
Opened Control Panel, went to Programs, and finally found the option on the left for turning Windows features on and off. Unchecked the box for IE8, which required a restart. The restart time was 4-5 times longer than usual, even when launching superfluous programs from the startup menu, since it had to "reconfigure Windows." After restarting, WIE did not automatically launch, and its toolbar icon was gone too. Tried to turn it back on like you said, which also required a restart, which didn't make sense to me, since I expected the browser to launch again following another extra long restart once the box was re-selected. Although, surprisingly, it didn't, so for a moment thought it had somehow worked. Then I realized that my WIE icon was still missing from the toolbar, so there was no way to launch it even if I wanted to. Went back into the Control panel and checked every Windows feature box possible; another extra-long restart; still no toolbar icon for WIE. Had to go into the computer files to find WIE so that I could create a desktop shortcut icon so I could manually launch the browser from that. However, when I clicked on the shortcut, it went into a browser setup mode, as if it was being set up for the first time. Finished setup and tried to go to a webpage, but kept getting a connection error.
Diagnosed it, and it said that the Local Area Connection had no valid IP address. Waited on hold with Mediacom for a hour before being disconnected, trying to find out what the IP address was and where to re-enter it, since unchecking the IE8 box in the Windows features part of the Control Panel, doesn't just temporarily disable the function, but apparently actually deletes the toolbar icon, as well as the IP address. Took several more attempts over several hours to get ahold of Mediacom reset the signal to get the IP address back and get back online. So that really does not seem like a viable solution for trying to save time and resources by removing something from the startup menu, if it just quadruples startup time, deletes WIE toolbar icon and IP address permanently, requires creating a desktop shortcut, and then requires several more hours on phone with ISP for signal reset to get the IP address back. Would have been much faster and done less apparent damage than just going ahead and letting it launch at startup and then just closing it. *sigh*
I know that just having an icon in the toolbar does not mean that that particular program will launch at startup, as I have several others that have toolbar icons that I have been able to uncheck in the startup menu, so I can use the toolbar icons to launch each program manually. There just doesn't seem to be any program active in the startup menu that would be launching the browser, and still concerned about unchecking something necessary in startup that could screw it up even more.
Is there any way to get my toolbar WIE icon back without a full system restore, so that I have less shortcut clutter on my desktop?

  • How to remove automatically launched items/apps?

Sorry if this is a duplicate question.
Actually i didn't find best answer for disabling items that automatically lauched when osx starting.
I've been removed all startup items from login startup items (System Preferences - User & Groups - Login Items).
Nothing found on StartupItems folder (Library - Startup Items) too.
But some items still automatically launched on Mac start (such as Splashtop Streamer, Busycall).
How to remove those startup items without completely uninstalling them?
    Any help would by appreciated.

Those are system modifications, and if you want them to do what they do, they have to load at startup. If you don't like what they do, remove them according to the developer's instructions, or refer to the developer for support.

  • How to disable App tabs (pined tabs) from being started automatically?

how to disable App tabs (pined tabs) from being started automatically?
because the option [Don't load tabs until selected] dose not work with it, and it keeps starting every time when I restart Firefox.
    Please help me!

Don't bother, I reached to the solution by my self, you can do it as following:
Type "about:config" [ without quotation marks! ] in the Location Bar (address bar) and press Enter to display the list of preferences, as shown in the picture '''#1''' in Firefox 17 on Windows 7.
If you see a page with the warning message as shown in picture '''#2''', This might void your warranty!, click the button labeled "I'll be careful, I promise!", to continue (in fact, there is no warranty whatsoever, it's more a joke to ensure that users are aware of what they are about to do). uncheck the check-box there to avoid the warning in the future.
Now at the search bar in the picture '''#3''' type: ''tab'' and look for the
    '''preference name:'''
    browser.sessionstore.restore_pinned_tabs_on_demand
or you can '''copy''' it directly to the search bar,
'''Next,''' follow the instruction in picture '''#3''' .
Just in case if the pictures didn't appear, do ''these steps'':
'''First:''' Right click at the preference name that we searched for.
'''Next,''' click Toggle to change the value from false to true.
'''Or,''' double click on it and it will change.
'''Finally,''' restart Firefox and you will notice that they don't load automatically until you click on it.
That's it, Good luck to all. ''';-)'''
'''Note''': The bolded font preferences list is the user modified, and the un-bolded is the default setting.
'''Warning''': Modifying preferences can, in rare circumstances, break Firefox, Thunderbird or the Mozilla Suite, or can cause strange behavior. Only do so if you know what you are doing or are following trustworthy advice.
    Additional INFO:
about:config is a feature of Mozilla applications which lists application settings (known as preferences) that are read from the profile files prefs.js and user.js, and from application defaults. Many of these preferences are not present in the Options or Preferences dialog. Using about:config is one of several methods of modifying preferences and adding other "hidden" ones.

Thanks for the response gakker, but I've double-checked the camera / iPhoto / Image Capture scenario, and I'm 100% positive it's got nothing to do with that.
Plugging in my iPhone has no effect on anything related to this.
The other thing I should have mentioned is that when iTunes on my Mac is NOT running, then nothing happens on my iPhone screen when I plug it in to my Mac. I only get the "Sync in progress" message when iTunes IS running.
It's interesting though that you say you also get this "Sync in progress" message, albeit only for a second or two though.
Can I just double-check something with you however... When you say:
+"at no time was my iTunes playback interrupted"+
do you mean the iTunes on your Mac? Because the problem I have is that the iPod-playback on my iPhone is interrupted.
So can you clarify that for me, please? If you have music playing on your iPhone, and you then plug your iPhone into your Mac when iTunes is running on your Mac, does the music playback on the iPhone get interrupted?

  • App store launches automatically when opening a specific website

The last few days, anytime that I open an NBC related news article on Safari, the app store launches automatically. There aren't any web banners directly leading to the app store (they're all ads for NBC shows) and I am most definitely not accidentally touching the banner space. Thoughts as to why this is going on???
    Thanks in advance.

That would be considered 'adware' and you may be able to remove it using information here:
•Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support
A web page you see with App store is not the App in your computer, so do not use it.
If the above linked information is difficult, note the method is good; avoid any hint
at some program or fixmymac kind of service that may offer to fix your mac, as
most of them are at best marginal. Usually most are scams & full of grief. If there
are any other questions, post back and someone could help you further.

  • MDT 2013 - Disable IE (bing) from automatically launching on first startup

I thought there was a way to disable this via unattended.xml file..however, might be deprecated with windows 8.1? happens only at the first logon as the local admin.

I am unaware of anything in Windows and/or MDT that will cause IE To launch at first logon. It does not happen on my machine.
Sometimes when I connect to the internet at my local Starbucks, IE is launched for validation, but that isn't Windows.
Is your question about how to change the first welome screen from
    http://bing.com to something else like Google.com?  ( Use HOME_Page =
    http://www.google.com )
Or is your question about how to disable IE from launching at all? ( I don't know why it's doing this )

  • When my bluetooth device disconnects, automatically launches iTunes. Why?

I've seen some other posts on this, but none that solve the question.  iTunes (11.1.5 (5)) automatically launches evertime I disconnect my bluetooth speaker or the speaker times out and shuts off. In iTune device preferences, I checked the box "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically". iTunes is NOT paired with any Remotes.
I wondered if Spotify might be the source of the problem, but when I closed Spotify and ran the test (disconnect my bluetooth speaker), iTunes automatically launched.
    Any help?

Same issue. In former Version of OSX itunes autolaunch could be disabled by setting "no action" when a CD is inserted (in case your mac still has a CD drive). But with 10.9. this does not help. For some reason Apple thinks as soon as something happening with audio it's the deepest desire of every Mac owner to start to use iTunes. What makes this totally weird is that iTunes is started when the speaker is DISconnected.
Haven't found any solution, and have to say it ***** big time. Please, apple, don't dictate your users which app s they "want" to use on what occasion... if there is an autolaunch mechanism there has to be an easy way to disable it, like iPhoto autolaunch when you connect a camera.
The constant launching of iTunes on every occasion I really do not want to use it is painful.
