Disable auto-focus on iSight?

Is it possible to disable the auto-focus and/or auto-exposure on the iSight?

Both iGlasses and iChatUSBCam will do what you ask.
Select the one you want based on which feature set and which apps you want to be using when you manually focus or manually set exposure.

  • External isight auto focus noise

    i have an isight that appears to be working fine (it focuses, displays image, has sound, etc) however i have not used it in quite some time.
    my question is that i can clearly hear the focus mechanism in this external firewire isight and i am checking to see from someone who uses these a lot if that is normal.
    i have used the built in isight in my macbook and i never hear any noise although i realize that they are very different units.
    is it normal to be able to hear the auto focus noise for an external unit?

    Thanks Tony,

    (how to Check your iSight is Functional)

  • ISight is not auto focusing .. any ideas?

    that's it , it's not auto focusing, I can make it to focus using external apps like iGlasses....
    **** , help ?

    Are you sure you have not configured iGlasses to allow Manual Focus ONLY? If that is not your problem, consider the following.
    iSight's auto-focus needs plenty of light to work best. If you are testing in a work area that is not brightly lit, add plenty of light and test again.
    If you have not already done so, try another Firewire cable. You should also try plugging iSight into another Firewire port. Finally, try your iSight on another Mac. These suggestions will help you rule out cable, connection, or computer specific problems.
    If you have not done so already, test with more than one application that can use iSight . This will help rule out program software problems.
    See if the focus testing suggestions in the second part of How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional give you any ideas that you have not already considered.
    My only other suggestion that might help you is to disconnect all Firewire cables from your G5 iMac. Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (PPC). Repair permissions after you restart your Mac. Finally, reconnect and check your iSight again.
    Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying the Combo Updater. Using the Combo Updater to update to the current Mac OS X version also often seems to correct problems that exist with earlier 10.4.x versions.
    If the suggestions above do not help you correct your problem, my only remaining suggestion for restoring your iSight's auto-focus is to contact your Apple Service Technician for service. There are no user serviceable parts in iSight.

  • How do I turn off auto focus/open/maximize when new email arrives?

    If I have mac mail minimized, when a new email arrives, it automatically maximize/open it and focus on the mail window.
    This is really annoying. It started happening with recent updates. Is there a way to turn this 'feature' off?
    thanks.

    How does one disable auto-opening a blank document (either open blank OR template chooser) when PAGES launches?
    You can't. You will always get a new document or the template chooser depending on what you have set in the preferences. I suggest you leave feedback for the Pages team regarding this. You can find it under the Pages menu > Provide Pages Feedback. That takes you to the same page as this link.

  • 4k video app for professional use, auto focusing issue

    Hello Sony Z3 support,
    I would like to address the developers of 4k video camera app. I know it's a stand alone application that shoots 4k.
    I shoot video professionally and now experiencing the change from full hd to 4k.
    Sony has the best 4k camera on the market these days, and me personally, I purchased this phone to be able to shoot 4k video using the smartphone.
    Currently 4k app lacks some pro features to make the shooting, but that's ok. The main issue here is its auto focusing whenever picture changes. So many shots were ruined by this issue. It's not a bug or hardware problem, it's just lack of possibility to disable the auto-focus.
    My feature request about 4k video camera app is as simple as this:
    - ability to select between auto and manual focus
    - focusing on tap
    It's been already implemented on regular photo/video app, but not in 4k video app. Without this feature this 4k camera cannot be used for professional purposes.
    I know it wasn't designed for a pro video, but I'm talking about something that may change the market like Canon DSLRs did with Full HD video few years ago.

    you should contact Sony Xperia Support, and let them know about your request.

  • How do I stop Firefox from auto-focusing on text boxes?

    How do I stop Firefox from auto-focusing on text boxes? Sometimes as a page is loading, I scroll down the page...only to have the page jump back to where there is a text box, with a blinking cursor, after the page is finished loading. It is an annoying feature and I want to turn it off.

    Some pages use an onload event to set the focus to a text area or search field.
    You can try NoScript to see if that blocks it.

  • How to Disable "Auto Align" in [System Pref.] - [Display] - [Arrangement]

    Does anyone know How to Disable "Auto Align" in [System Preferences] -> [Display] -> [Arrangement]?
    It always want to align the two screens from the top when they are lined up close together and I need them to be aligned from the bottom. Since the resolution heights are so close together (1080 & 1050) it does not allow one to align side by side from the bottom as it prioritizes top alignment.
    I guess I'm looking for a script to disable this feature.

    Anyone got any ideas?

  • How can I disable auto-switching desktops?

    I've long appreciated the spaces/mission control feature of OS X. However, it seems more oriented to organizing desktops by application rather than by project.
    Like many users, I suspect, I use different desktops for different projects, each of which requires a variety of applications (finder, word docs, spreadsheets, etc). When I'm working on project 1 in desktop 1, I never want to be whisked away to desktop 2. In fact, I never want to be switched to a different desktop automatically. If I click on an application, I want it to open a new window for that application. If a new iteration of an app can't be opened (ie, Mail), I'd like it to pull Mail to me rather than send me off to it. Aren't apps supposed to come when we call, not the other way around?
    I have unchecked "...switch to a space with open windows of that application" in System Prefences, but my desktop continues to auto-switch, especially with Finder.
    In short: is there a way disable auto-switching entirely? I'd like to be able to assign windows and navigate manually without being constantly pulled away from the project I'm working on.
    Thanks for the help; I really appreciate people spending their time helping others on forums like this one.

    Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
    Isolating an issue by using another user account
    If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • [SOLVED:] SLIM not reading slim.conf (no password auto-focus)

    Yesterday I began having issues with SLIM.  I'm not sure if they're related, but  while running Puppy , I inadvertently deleted the desktop icon for my Arch home directory on /dev/sda8.  I rebooted Puppy and it reappeared.  After running Puppy, something went wrong with my clocks (system and hardware) and the times were all wrong.  I fixed that with NTPD.  I currently dual boot Arch and Windows 7 from the hard drive, and occasionally from a USB stick, Puppy Linux.  I'm using an ASUS K50IJ laptop.  I run Xfce4.  I do not have any disk encryption enabled.
    When I boot up, the SLIM login appears as normal, but rather than password auto-focus, I'm prompted for a username.  If I enter the username and hit return, I'm still staring at the username prompt.  After three or four iterations of entering a username + enter, I finally get a password prompt and can log in.
    I have tried:
    1.  Reinstalling archlinux-themes-slim
    2.  Uninstalling archlinux-themes-slim and slim, then reinstalling slim
    3.  Removing old Xfce4 & Xfwm sessions
    4.  Removing slim.conf and entering a pristine version.
    5.  Reviewing /var/log/slim.log files for oddities.  I found one:
    Before the trouble started, I the message in the log was:

    I solved this - slim was not the last daemon I started in rc.conf.  By moving it to the end, I get password auto-focus and everything works.
    Now my rc.conf looks like
    # DAEMONS
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus acpid @network @wicd @openntpd @cupsd @crond slim)
    I found this recommendation in the Display Manager wiki page while researching the problem:
    Ensure you start the display manager last in the DAEMONS array, otherwise X will later allocate a tty device which was previously claimed by Getty (see /etc/inittab). Not placing the display manager at the end can cause X crashes, and is therefore unsupported.
    I'd just been lucky before that there wasn't a conflict.
    There is a "flicker" during login where I'm shown the XFCE splash, then the SLIM splash again, then the XFCE desktop.  Not sure what's going on there, but it's no big deal.
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Disable auto-updates/Adobe Application Manager

    there is no forum for this - I use Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 non-CC on macbook pro running 10.8.5 or 10.9.2. I would like to not have AAM search for updates in the background, but initiate the **search** for updates manually. The reason is that I live a bit off the grid and pay quite a lot per minute, and AAM kept the internet connection open the whole night, even though the browser said it was closed.
    I only found instructions for CS5:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/disable-auto-updates-application-manager.html
    does this work for CS6 the same way? I am by no means a system admin but I can replace this AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat file. (and keep the original else where)
    thanks.
    edit: why on earth does adobe insist on displaying my real name in a public forum, when it even asks me to make a screen name first. There is no forum for this either, I guess.

    ... adobe insist on displaying my real name in a public forum...
    that is gone, thanks.

  • Lumia 1020 auto focus in video when used in apps.....

    Hi. If I want to take a video clip up close using the Nokia Lumia 1020 on WhatsApp or Skype, the auto focus just will not fire. It stays zoomed out, and is only useful for taking clips really far away. This is incredibly frustrating given that I bought this phone for the camera.
    Is this a bug in the phone? or is my phone broken?
    Auto focus only works when using the actual camera app. Skype and WhatsApp seem to ignore the "auto focus" setting that I've turned on in the default camera app and the Nokia Camera app...
    Really disappointed.
    Jez

    not sure as i haven't used those apps myslef, but for example, if you use Vine, there is a setting in there that allows you to lock the focus. it appears to me that auto-focus isn't automatically enabled / enabled at all in certain apps. you will need to contact the developers of the apps themselves for further feedback, as this is a user to user forum only for Nokia products and services.

  • Auto focus on my 2 year old T3i has stopped working, any suggestions.

    auto focus has stopped working.  camera is almost 2 years old.  I can take pictures at normal distance but if I try to take a picture that requires zoom it will not work and all my pictures are fuzzy.

    Check the lens and make sure the "AF/MF" switch is in the "AF" position (Auto-focus is on).
    Do you own other lenses and does this happen with them?
    Are other functions of the lens working?  e.g. if you change the f-stop does it affect the exposure (showing that the camera is communicating witht the lens to control the blades.)
    Make sure the contacts on the body and lens are clean.  Clean them only with a non-abbrassive cloth (e.g. don't use a "pencil eraser" for example) because the gold plating on the contacts is thin and can be worn off if you use an abbrassive cleaner.
    Eject the battery from the camera... wait several minutes, then re-insert (this basically "reboots" the firmware.  Turning off the power switch doesn't "technically" shut it down... it puts it into a kind of "sleep" state.  But removing the batteries, allowing any capacitors with stored power to self-discharge, then re-inserting the batteries will cause the camera to boot fresh and this will sometimes clear up problems.
    It's also possible that there's a problem with the auto-focus mechanism in the lens itself and the lens would need service to repair it, but you may as well rule out other things before you resort to sending it in.

  • Disabling auto-update doesn't work

    I need to stop at Firefox 14 for now, and need to prevent auto-updates.
    In Firefox 14.0.1 when I disable auto-update by setting 'never check for updates', and/or use about:config to clear 'app.update.url', both settings are ignored. When I close and re-open Firefox, auto-update is again enabled, and the update URL is again set.
    Recommendations?

    As it turns out, it's not a matter of 'preferences not being saved'.
    It's Firefox spontaneously changing my preferences at start-time.
    I've been testing; here's what i discover.
    1. I install FF14, start it the first time, and disable auto-update (via Tools/Options/Advanced)
    At this point - prefs.js in my profile now starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    2. now I exit FF.
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    3. i restart FF (#1)
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    4. i close FF
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    5. I restart FF (#2)
    NOW prefs.js has dropped those 2 initial lines, and starts with user_pref("app.update.lastUpdateTime.addon-........etc
    Firefox is spontaneously changing my prefs.js.
    Before this series of tests I adjusted the prefs.js in all other profiles in this XPSP3 machine to start with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    This is obnoxious.
    I expect better from Mozilla.
    Suggestions?
