Disable auto split on import

When I import DV movies from my camcorder (canon mv400i) iMovie autosplits them in fragments of 0,1 seconds, which ruins the movie.
(This is not always the case, my guess is it depends on the quality of the DV tape).
What I want is to import the DV tape as 1 movie and then split it by hand afterwards. I was told by Apple that iMove 09 had an option to disable autosplit. I had 08 and upgraded to 11. Is there any way to disable the autosplit feature in 11, or another way to import a DV movie as one single clip?

Hi
This usually is due to that the miniDV tape was recorded in LP-mode (90-min on a 60-min tape) and eventually not
Imported to iMovie by same Camera as recorded it.
A. Avoid LP-mode in all cases ! (When recording Camera dies - so does the tapes)
B. If You've got one - Try to get hold of Camera used to record it - The tolerances
are to thin to be able to use other Cameras to do this.
C. I saved one by - using same Camera and iMovie HD6 - where You can set it to not import
as individual Clips. Then When imported to TimeLine - EXTRACT Audio - Then SAVE
Else audio goes out of sync.
FinalCut will do the same as it Imports/Capturs in one sequence not cutting it into clips.
D. There might be other reasons for this eg dirty Camera recording-head - Cleaning tape might help

  • Cannot disable Auto Tone on import of PSD files - ruins edits !!

    Hi -  I am a LR 5  expert and we have an issue with the latest release that I need to overcome or it is unusable.    Please direct this to an expert level support person as I have already networked around and have not been able to resolve this issue.    The issue is consistent with other users as well - we have tried this on several computers and the result is the same.     It is possible that is pilot error but I doubt it - we have disabled apply auto tone everywhere we could find it...
    I believe this is a serious bug in the way LR handles files on import  - and I am also hoping there is an immediate work-around as the issue has TRIPLED our workflow time.
    Example #1   -   Edit DNG - Export as PSD with "add to catalog" checked -  LR exports the file and then imports the PSD,   but in doing so applies auto tone and destroys all the edits.  The re-imported images are too bright and too contrasty.       Auto tone on import IS disabled.
    We tried to work around the issue by trying to edit outside LR and re-importing but that does not work either -SAME RESULT !
    Example #2 -   Edit DNG files,  export to PSD,  do not check "add to catalog"  -  make the edits needed in Photoshop,  then  import using "add" and LR applies Auto Tone once again destroying all edits.      You can actually watch the auto tone being applied to the thumbs as it imports them. - they get brighter.
    In all cases the edited images end up too bright and too contrasty and are otherwise unusable.        Our workaround is to export to PSD, edit in photoshop,  then use Photoshop's   scripts to produce the final images and leave the PSD files out of the catalog  - this has added a TON of time to our workflow and has corrupted our file management -  UNACCEPTABLE !!
    We have also tried reading the external  meta data option - same result - bright files.
    Please let us know how we completely disable auto tone on import and fix this issue it is a deal breaker for using this version.   We are using LR 5.6
    Thanks, Mark
    Head Janitor,  6IXGUN.COM

    Looks like we solved our own problem -   either edit or delete the preferences  files  and restart lightroom.  If you delete it,  it  will of course wipe our your template settings, etc  but that was far less of a hassle than not being able to use LR with PSD / exporting.  We were able to make a simple edit and it was fixed.   Also make sure you have unchecked "apply auto tone" in the >preferences>presets   dialog box - we did not have it checked but it WAS enabled in the plist file.       I would definitely consider this a bug -  the issue was not present in the last version of LR, it was introduced upon installing 5.6.

  • Auto split on import

    I have preferences setup to automatically split my movies on import (limit scene length on, start new clip at break off), but it is still importing everything as one clip. Any ideas?
    Background: I am running SL with iMovie09 installed, I just reinstalled iMovie HD, but never used it prior to this.

    [quote]
    Don't know what You mean by SL ?

    Snow leopard.
    [quote]
    Hopefully You firat DE-installed iLife'09 then after installing iLife 6
    re-installed iLife'09
    That's the WAY it's done - If You want it to work OK
    [/quote]
    No. Hadn't thought of that, will give it a try. Thanks
    [quote]
    If I import via FW and Analog/Digoital box from VHS - There are no Time-Code to make the Clip-breaks.
    iMovie - Do not do a frame analyze and figure out that next frame is from another Clip
    some PC-friend says that their movie-editor can do this - I don't belive it
    Neither any version of iMovie or FinalCut Express or Pro can do that only by
    information on TimeCode they can.[/quote]
    '09 gives you the option to work with a clip in smaller segments to make editing easier, so there isn't the need to break the video into smaller clips. '06 doesn't have that option, and with a video over an hour long it's hard to position the selection on just the right segment.

  • How can i disable auto playback when importing music files in itunes 10?

    when i downlaod music files that get imported to itunes it automatically plays the music in the background which interupts what i am currently listening to. how can this feature be disabled as it was possible in the past. i have a macbook air and running iTunes 10.

    I am having this same issue when downloading audiobooks from Audible.
    After the download completes in Safari, it imports into iTunes which automatically starts to play the file.
    Damned inconvinent when I am downloading multiple books for work and I am away from my Mac doing other stuff. I have to return to the Mac to manually stop the book each time.

  • Importing Word docs into RH10 & auto split headers into topics

    Can RH10 import a Word document and auto split the headers into separate topics? In RH7, this capability was available, but I'm not seeing it in RH10.

    Look for “Pagination” – I think Peter Grainge discusses it on his site (grainge.org) too

  • Import auto split projects

    Hi,
    Is it possible to use the auto split project options on import to include the date in the project name?
    Effectively automatically making a project for each shooting day, with the date in the project name?
    Whilst I can see it split the days into separate projects, I can't work out how to get the date of those photos into the project name.
    Cheers
    Darren

    Hi,
    I couldn't find a way to do it automatically, so wrote a small script to sort a single project into multiple dated projects, and move each photo into that project.
    Save the script below somewhere safe and select it on the A3 import dialog to run after import.
    Create a blue folder at the library root called Shoebox.
    When importing, don't autosplit, but import everything into a project called untitled project.
    The script will run after import and sort as needed.
    Works OK for me on my limited testing, but use at your own risk!
    Cheers
    Darren

  • How do I turn off auto split in iPhoto ?

    How do I turn off auto split in iPhoto? I have about 8,000 old photos I would like to import but it splits them in to loads of events. Would just like to leave them in year folders.

    First try, if importing a sample folder with two images with different days, more than a week apart, will import them as only one event on your mac and  the autosplit is behaving the same for you as for me.
    May be I will have to do it folder by folder which will take for ever.
    Would it be possible for you to join some of the folders before importing?
    Or join your events in iPhoto after importing. Creating yearly events is fairly simple (tested in iPhoto 9.5.1)
    Create a smart album for each year (File > New ) with the smart rule "Date is in the range ...."
    Then select all photos in this smart album and use the command from the "events" menu "create event". This will collect all photos in a new yearly event.

  • Possible to auto-split captures @ 2gigs ?

    Hi all - it used to be that iMovie would auto-split DV captures @ 2gigs. iMovie '09 doesn't do this, however I actually did not mind this 'feature', as I've had issues over the years with backup systems corrupting files > 2g.
    Typically this should not happen, and the best solution is to religiously check back-ups to ensure they're not corrupt, but such is life, and wherever I can I split up files into 2g chunks.
    is there any setting to allow this ? Alternately is the old version of iMovie 6.x still available for download ? I remember this being an option when they re-wrote iMovie a few years back ...
    If this is not an option: is there some sort of automator solution to chop my files into 2G chunks post-capture ?
    THanks for any insight you may be able to provide - Dave

    So.....
    Is there a way to auto-split files on import to limit file size?
    For those of us trying to archive old analog tapes, it is a pain in the a** to sit in front of the analog player and manually create clips as it imports to video. It would be a lot easier to let the 90 minute tape play, 'auto-split' into pre-set sized clips, and then edit the smaller files.
    Right now I'm getting 12 to 16GB files of 1 to 2 hour movies. Then we get into issues of storage, etc.
    The nuances of FAT32, drive capacities, etc are often lost on those of us who are 'just' casual users.
    I've just put over 500GB of home movie files onto an external hard drive, and now I'm finding out that my iMovie files shouldn't be there. What a frig.

  • Disable Auto Align in Photomerge

    Good day.
    So far I got good reply.
    For now I wonder, can "Auto Align Selected Layers Based on Contents" be disabled during photomerge?
    Why do I want that?
    => First, most of times the auto align result is not good
    => it takes time to wait for window to appear, sometimes hangs
    => When all images are jumbled together, it is like making jigsaw puzzle.
    Actually I got used to Photoshop CS2 where I disable auto align check box...
    And I manually create the "mosaic" (not just a flat panorama) from images taken from microscope.
    Thanks in advance.

    r_vinoya wrote:
    However, even if I use interactive layout in PSE11 (trial version)...
    The software still attempts to "Auto Align''
    I don't know of a way to turn that off.
    r_vinoya wrote:
    is it possible to photomerge first without blending... then blend it later when you already fixed the image position?
    You can turn the blending off, but I don't think that automated blending later can be done.
    As it seems that you want to do most of the work manually, have you considered just creating a new blank image of the anticipated width and height of your final composite (plus a contingency) and dragging your source files to it to put each one on a layer where you can individually move them into place?
    There is a workaround to restore the interactive layout to PSE12 - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5741182. If you don't have access to PSE11 (you need to copy some of the PSE11 files) you can download its trial from http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l. Follow their very important instructions EXACTLY or you will likely encounter authorisation errors or download the latest version instead.

  • Timestamp based auto-split

    Does anyone know plugin that timestamp based auto-split images into folders?

    Plugins can't move photos, so your odds are not good.
    I mean, they could be moved on disk, then re-imported in Lightroom (at the new location), but they'd be new photos - edits intact, but edit history missing..
    The old versions would then need to be deleted..
    I mean #2, a plugin (or app) could use sql to modify a closed catalog, but that'd be the only way to do it "right" (without proper SDK support I mean), and I don't know of any such plugin or app.
    I'd love to write such a plugin, and keep hoping for the support to be added to the SDK - fingers crossed..

  • How to disable auto-sort for AdvancedDataGrid

    Hello,
    I am using Flex 4, ActionScript 3.
    I want to disable auto-sort. Meaning I want the sort to be executed only when the user clicks the column header, not when new rows are added to the binded collection or when values are changed.
    So far, I've found only this on the Internet:
    http://]http://tomek.me/disable-sort-on-datagrid-edit-update/
    I'd like to avoid doing that if possible.
    Many months ago, I found a solution that involved using event.preventDefault() placed somewhere. I thought I wouldn't have a problem finding it again, but I am.
    Can someone please help? Thanks!

  • How to Disable "Auto Align" in [System Pref.] - [Display] - [Arrangement]

    Does anyone know How to Disable "Auto Align" in [System Preferences] -> [Display] -> [Arrangement]?
    It always want to align the two screens from the top when they are lined up close together and I need them to be aligned from the bottom. Since the resolution heights are so close together (1080 & 1050) it does not allow one to align side by side from the bottom as it prioritizes top alignment.
    I guess I'm looking for a script to disable this feature.

    Anyone got any ideas?

  • How can I disable auto-switching desktops?

    I've long appreciated the spaces/mission control feature of OS X. However, it seems more oriented to organizing desktops by application rather than by project.
    Like many users, I suspect, I use different desktops for different projects, each of which requires a variety of applications (finder, word docs, spreadsheets, etc). When I'm working on project 1 in desktop 1, I never want to be whisked away to desktop 2. In fact, I never want to be switched to a different desktop automatically. If I click on an application, I want it to open a new window for that application. If a new iteration of an app can't be opened (ie, Mail), I'd like it to pull Mail to me rather than send me off to it. Aren't apps supposed to come when we call, not the other way around?
    I have unchecked "...switch to a space with open windows of that application" in System Prefences, but my desktop continues to auto-switch, especially with Finder.
    In short: is there a way disable auto-switching entirely? I'd like to be able to assign windows and navigate manually without being constantly pulled away from the project I'm working on.
    Thanks for the help; I really appreciate people spending their time helping others on forums like this one.

    Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

    If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Disable auto-updates/Adobe Application Manager

    there is no forum for this - I use Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 non-CC on macbook pro running 10.8.5 or 10.9.2. I would like to not have AAM search for updates in the background, but initiate the **search** for updates manually. The reason is that I live a bit off the grid and pay quite a lot per minute, and AAM kept the internet connection open the whole night, even though the browser said it was closed.
    I only found instructions for CS5:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/disable-auto-updates-application-manager.html
    does this work for CS6 the same way? I am by no means a system admin but I can replace this AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat file. (and keep the original else where)
    thanks.
    edit: why on earth does adobe insist on displaying my real name in a public forum, when it even asks me to make a screen name first. There is no forum for this either, I guess.

    ... adobe insist on displaying my real name in a public forum...
    that is gone, thanks.

  • Disabling auto-update doesn't work

    I need to stop at Firefox 14 for now, and need to prevent auto-updates.
    In Firefox 14.0.1 when I disable auto-update by setting 'never check for updates', and/or use about:config to clear 'app.update.url', both settings are ignored. When I close and re-open Firefox, auto-update is again enabled, and the update URL is again set.
    Recommendations?

    As it turns out, it's not a matter of 'preferences not being saved'.
    It's Firefox spontaneously changing my preferences at start-time.
    I've been testing; here's what i discover.
    1. I install FF14, start it the first time, and disable auto-update (via Tools/Options/Advanced)
    At this point - prefs.js in my profile now starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    2. now I exit FF.
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    3. i restart FF (#1)
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    4. i close FF
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    5. I restart FF (#2)
    NOW prefs.js has dropped those 2 initial lines, and starts with user_pref("app.update.lastUpdateTime.addon-........etc
    Firefox is spontaneously changing my prefs.js.
    Before this series of tests I adjusted the prefs.js in all other profiles in this XPSP3 machine to start with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    This is obnoxious.
    I expect better from Mozilla.
