Disable autocorrect in Windows 8.1 Control Panel d...
I've disabled auto correct in the Windows 8.1 (metro style) user interface. Steps:
1. Swipe from right and go to PC-settings.
2. PC and devices > Typing
3. Uncheck Fix misspelled words automatically
4. Uncheck Highlight mispelled words.
These are the only two options in the typing pane in my control panel. It does not fix Skype.
How do I properly disable it in Windows 8.1 Skype?
Solved!
Go to Solution.
The accepted solution does not work for me. I go into PC settings, turn off autocorrect and highlight mispelled words, close Skype, restart it... and it still autocorrects 'bon appetit' into 'bon appetite'. English is my primary language, but I commonly use phrases in other languages and it's really annoying when they're autocorrected. There's not even the option you have in most programs to add a word to your dictionary. Seriously, Skype people, this is annoying.

Scenario
If you performed a clean installation of the new Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926, you would find Windows Update is only available in
Settings and is hidden in Control Panel by default. However, Windows Update is still available in Control Panel if it is an upgrade version of Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926.
Solution
After the comparison of the two different version, the differences is the following registry:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled
In clean installation version:
In upgrade version:
The method to make Windows Update show in Control Panel in the clean installation of Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926:
Edit the REG_DWORD value of IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled from 1 to 0.

Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. We’ve seen a few forum posts talking about changing registry keys to alter the update experience we shipped in Technical Preview build 9926. There are a couple of reasons that we don’t recommend doing things like that.
First, the default experience is what we’ve tested across not just the Windows 10 team, but across all of Microsoft before we released it to you. That doesn’t mean that you won’t still find bugs, but it’s definitely the code that’s been most thoroughly
tested. Changing things back to older versions is risky because the combination of those old settings with the rest of Windows 10 is not something that’s been validated or supported, so we can’t predict the side effects. It’s possible that changing registry
settings related to update could cause a machine to no longer be able to get new updates or Technical Preview builds.
The other reason to avoid changing the default update experience is that a lot of update-related code is actually being re-written in order to scale across the variety of different device types Windows 10 will support. Since Technical Previews are
a work-in-progress, some code that may still be in build 9926 won’t actually ship in the final version of Windows 10 that we provide to all our customers, so trying to re-enable that code temporarily won’t provide a way to accurately assess Windows 10’s update
capabilities.
We want to hear your feedback! We’re sharing Technical Preview releases early so we can understand exactly how customers are using our software and make sure we are designing our experiences to address those scenarios. The more
specific the feedback, the more helpful it is for us – saying “I hate the new Windows Update UI” isn’t very useful, but when we see “I need to be able to tell Windows Update to grab updates from WU itself and not from my internal corporate server, so the new
Windows Update UI is painful for me”, we can actually understand what changes we could make to solve those specific problems. We can’t promise to fix everything that everyone asks for – and sometimes what one customer wants is exactly what another customer
doesn’t want – but the more you can help us understand why you want something changed, the better we can try to meet those needs.
Thanks for listening, and we look forward to hearing your responses.

How Do you add Your APP to XP windows system in control panel??.
Hi,
Is there a way to make your APP be part of XP windows? to go or have it list in Add/Remove programs in control panel and to show up and stay in the Taskbar( next to the time on dask top) and how do y ou add to Rigister in XP windows. Other words, make it part of the system I guess what I am asking
Dan Macyou need access to the windows registry (via some jni library which you can find on google)
then you need to read this web page and fiddle with the settings in the registry
http://www.delphi32.com/info_facts/faq/faq_661.asp
the key you want to add a new key to is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
and then associate some values with that key:
'DisplayName' = the string displayed in the add/remove programs window
'UninstallString' = the path to your application

Windows Update from COntrol Panel does not work??
Hello,
regardless if it is common way to do so or not: Does anyone have experience with the "Windows Update" functions in WE8S?
I tried them upon a customers request, and I've seen that I could not get it to complete successfully when choosing the option in
Control Panel. It either hanged during "Downloading..." or at the "Preparing to install..." screen - I waited for many hours. But when I using the "Windows Update"
app from the start screen, updates were installed without any problems (OK, 1 has failed, but the process has completed). Of course, both methods have different look, maybe it is not the
same...
As per Sean Limings' book it is no good idea to update systems in the field this way - shall I remove the functions from the system? What are you doing?
Thanks,
Willi K.Maybe it was because of the number of updates (in my case there were 85 updates pending). After I succeeded installing via the "Windows Update" app from "Start Menu", there where two more updates, and update now worked when called from
control panel (at least one of them, KB2973201 still stolidly fails to install). -
Disabling font tab in InDesign CS5 Control panel
Hi,
Is there any option to disable the Font change option in the InDesign CS5 Control panel. That is the user should not change the font using Control panel.
Thanks,
GopalWhat I need here is, whenever the user change the font using Control panel, an alert should be made to the user and the font should not be changed.
I am confused why the method the user chooses matters.
Why is it a problem if they use the Control panel but not the Character panel?
I don't think you can achieve this with scripting.
With substantial effort, you maybe able to detect when they change a font and pop up an alert, but it is pretty difficult.
It would be more doable but still hard in the C++ SDK. -
Windows 8.1 Control Panel blank and won't close
There doesn't seem to be a Windows 8 forum.
I have seen a lot of people with this issue but no resolution. Surely this is important enough to provide a solution to your users?
When I try to open Control Panel it displays as a blank window and hangs. You cannot minimize it or close it. How do I get all my icons back (and use of the Control Panel)?Hi,
When did this issue happen? Contorl panel can function fine in a normal system, something (file system\registry info) might be corrupted in this case. First, please run the follow administrative cmd
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Meanwhile, please run a AV Scan to eliminste some malware\virus infection.
If you have a restore point, I also suggest you return the system to a previous state at which everything is still functioning, but please note that you will lost some recent settings (boot into Advanced startup option, then choose restore point).

Unlikely..
To enable iCloud on your Windows PC (Windows 7 or 8 required), first set up iCloud on your other devices, then install the iCloud Control Panel for Windows

hardware: Lenovo G56 laptop
OS Windows 7 Home
usual logon is using Veriface, but that executes my password.
The upgrade window asks to choose between two profiles:
one is mine, where username and password are pre-filled and greyed out, the other is called Administrator, with no password. If I insert my password in this field it saya 'no such account' and if Is elect my own logon (I am the only user btw!) it says I do not have sufficient privileges!
I am going to create a second user, also an Administrator, and see if that might overcome this issue...If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Windows Update is not available in Control Panel
Hi.
I upgraded Windows 10 ETP 9926 to 10041 and Windows Update disappeared from the Control Panel.
How to add it back? I made a lot fo restarts, but nothing has changed.Hi Lukas,
In 9926, if you changed the regedit value you could display the windows update in the old control panel.
See these steps:
Enable Windows Update in Control Panel - Windows 10 Build 9926
In 10041, this will also show the windows update in the old control panel but I have had problems checking for windows update. When I disabled the windows update from the old control panel, my windows update started running normally. So I guess, they have
finally blocked checking updates the old way.
Hope this helps.. -
Windows 8.1 won't open "region" in control panel
Hi,
I can't open 'region' in Windows 8.1 control panel. I tried intl.cpl from command prompt. Nothing happen too. Anybody encountered similar issue?
thank you.I'm having the same issue too - brand new laptop!
Did you guys ever get anywhere with fixing this?
I have a strange problem where the time is wrong for the region that I'm in. It's an hour out and I have checked within the clock in the corner and everything is definitely set up correctly so I can only assume that the issue is related. -

I have just installed Windows 7. With an update to my bios, and newest drivers from both Micorosft and my motherboards website. I installed the newest drivers from Creative for my Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio, and installed the Audio Conrol Panel. Every time i try and open the control panel I get this error below. Is anyone else having this issue. Any help would be great. Thanks in advice.
"The audio device supported by this application is not detected.
The applicaiton will exit."
Thanks!!?Thanks for the link.
The beta Console Launcher has installed without a problem but the Audio Control Panel still isn't appearing in Window 7's Control Panel. The Console Launcher didn't install an Audio Control Panel in the Start Menu though and I thought that the Audio Control Panel was installed with the drivers rather than the Console Launcher (I could be wrong though). -
Why can't I sign into iCloud, but I already downloaded the control panel?
Any help would be appreciated

Meeting the recommended system requirements lets you take advantage of the latest iCloud features and gives you the best overall iCloud experience. iCloud also requires an active Internet connection via Wi-Fi or cellular data, and some features work only with a Wi-Fi connection. Consult the iCloud features table below for information about minimum requirements by feature.
