Disable built-in battery, will it extend its life?

Hello people,
I am the owner of a Thinkpad S440. I love its battery life so I want to make efficient use of the battery. When I disable the built-in battery will the battery actually last longer since I don't use it?
Thanks in advance

Hi Luciobolo,

As per the query we understood that you are looking for disable the internal battery for your ThinkPad X240.
Yes, you can disable it in BIOS mode, to perform the step please boot the system into BIOS mode go to config menu click on power option and there you will get a option to disable built-in battery, click on enter key.
Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to disable built in battery in x240?

    Hello,
I was wondering if it possible to deactivate the internal battery in my lenovo x240.
I usually use t laptop every day  for 12h in a row and I am afraid I am messing up with the batteries , continuosly charging and discharching them. I'd like to use the laptop AV powered only , so I can keep it plugged to AV continuosly, without ruining the internal battery. Is it possible?
    thanks

  • Lenovo S430 - disable built-in battery permanently?

    Hi!
just got my S430 this week. i love it except the built in battery.
i use it at home mostly so its plugged into the ac all the time.
I wonder if I could disable the battery so it won't be charging 24/7. dont really want that as it'll kill the battery.
or are there any set up in the power management to take the load off the battery?
    thx in advance~
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

won't be possible, unless you physically disconnect the battery. Also with the Lenovo Thinkvantage battery charger, you can set the charge threshold rate, so the battery won't charge all the time even if you are connected to the AC (the biggest benefits of Lenovo ThinkPad machine).

  • HT4859 Battery will not keep its charge for I phone 5

My I phone 5 will not keep its charge the last couple of days

Battery runs down faster when it's not in use

  • Does leaving power connected when battery is 100% reduce its life

'They' on the internet reckon that a battery's life will be reduced once it is fully charged and external power is still connected. Does this still aplly to modern laptops?

Personally, I keep my power adapter plugged in most of the time. At least a couple times a week I use battery power to keep the battery juices flowing and hopefully prolong the life of the battery. If I'm not going to use my rMBP for several days, I shut it down and unplug it.

  • IMacG5 PowerMac 12.1 (Power PC G5 (3.1). How to extend its life

I had hoped that I could retain the screen, keyboard and mouse and link our iMac to a new Mac Mini, retaining the hard drive as a separate storage device - thereby avoiding undue wastage. The 20" screen is fine, nothing wrong with the keyboard and mouse and it would have been good if I could step up to Snow leopard and faster operations, utilise my intel based work software and keep things running. However it seems that the Mac Mini can only work with the latest 27" (Intel) iMac...so we will have to scrap what we have and start over.
Does anyone know of a workaround to this to enable us to go Intel and keep the current - perfectly sound - hardware running ?
    Many thanks

    So I need a second monitor ?
    Yes.
I can't just use the iMac screen ?
    See above.

  • 15 inch built-in battery

    Hi all,
I have a few questions for you regarding the macbook pro:
1- Can I have your thoughts on when the built-in battery will be implemented to the 15 inch MBP? I myself think that it could become an addition when 10.6 is released.
2- I am about to go back to uni and want to buy the 15 inch MBP, do you all think I should wait until 10.6 is released, and if so, when do you all think it is coming? I am more inclined to wait until 10.6 comes out to see if the built-in battery comes with it, because I could use the extra battery life.
    Thanks.

    1. We don't know. You'll know if and when Apple releases it.
    2. We only know that 10.6 is supposed to be released this year. We don't know if or when. If you wish to wait that's entirely your prerogative.
We cannot speculate about Apple's future products or software releases as it's strictly forbidden on the Discussions.

  • Does plugging in ones MBP extend the life of ones battery ?

IOW ... I would imagine that limiting the number of battery charging cycles extends the life of ones MBP battery ... so whenever possible, don't use the battery ... even for relatively short sessions away from my desk?

A cycle requires the cumulative discharge of the battery to empty, so whether you discharge the battery 100% at one sitting or 1% per sitting over 100 sittings, it's still only 1 cycle. In general if you are able to use the AC adaptor that is preferable, but if you must run on battery it doesn't really matter whether it's a long time or a lot of short times. It's important that the battery get discharged fully and recharged fully at least once very two or three months to avoid having the battery fail from disuse.

  • Hello. I have an iphone5 and I use it for a hotspot for mylaptop and printer. Does any one know a device that will extend its range? I have tried a Netgear and Belkin range extenders without any luck. Thank you!

Hello. I have an iphone5 and I use it for a hotspot for mylaptop and printer. Does any one know a device that will extend its range? I have tried a Netgear and Belkin range extenders without any luck. The Belkin was closest to working. IT could find my iphone but when it create a new network, both the laptop and printer could not find the new extended network. Thank you!

Hi - you can do what you want to do with AirPlay from your iPhone - but unfortunately it is not as easy as the people in the Apple store told you - your first problem is that you have a non Apple router - you cannot extend a non Apple router wirelessly with the Express - you can only join the network and connect an ethernet device to it - you can however connect via ethernet and have it create a wireless network of its' own - you can set this up from your iPhone or the XP - but this is a complicated setup and would involve many different discussion areas of this forum - therefore I would suggest that you use your 90 days of support and consult directly with Apple to do this - go to this link - http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

  • My Iphone 5 has been in months of returning to the factory due to defect will my phone extend its warrnty

    Hi All,
I experienced a non responsive screen on my Iphone 5 then I service it to authorize service center (Philippines) and it took me almost 1 month for the replacement, the authorize service center informed me that my phone is now available so i decided to come and get my phone unfortunately after a certain test the issue is still there a non responsive screen and returned it again to the Service Center and complain the issue as per advice by a technician they need it to return again to the apple to replace it a new one and again it will take a month again. My question is will apple extend it's warranty? Warranty will expire by October. PLease advice any one what are the best thing to negotiate with it.

Apple will not extend the warranty, but you need to contact AppleCare and inquire why an exchange under warranty in the Phillipines with this authorized service center takes nealy a month.
If an iPhone is exchanged under warranty within 90 days of the warranty expiration date, the exchange is covered for a full 90 days. For example if an iPhone is exchanged on the last day of the warranty period, the exchange will be covered for a full 90 days.

  • Battery will not charge. and other issues

Well i'm working on a friend of mines notebook, its a n100 model 0768 12u running windows xp. This is the situation so far. First his hard drive had fried so i replaced that and put the o.s. back on it,but now the battery will not charge. also the wireless network card and dvd drive did not work. I had originally thought that they might have fried as well when the hard drive went down. However I looked through the forums here and found that alot of people solved the battery issue simply by replacing the battery i recommended that. He purchased a replacement battery ( not a genuine lenovo battery, don't know if that makes a difference) and when i put it in the dvd drive and the network card started working no problem. But alas the battery still would not charge. the system runs fine without a battery in it, but if i put the battery in it while its running it turns itself off after about 30 seconds of having the battery in. when the system is powered off and i put the battery in the battery lcd in front blinks 5 times orange then nothing for about 30 seconds then 5 more times. maybe thats a trouble code, don't know, looked all oover the forums and couldn't find anything quite like it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
     thanks
    Steve

    Duck3,
Glad that worked for you!  Thanks for sharing here.
I saw a weird situation on friend's ThinkPad recently - a replacement battery arrived with a 37% charge (not 100% deliberately as somewhere around 40% is the best for shelf life), but it would not accept a charge.   We did a reset by removing the battery & AC and pressing and holding the power button a number of times  (some people say 10 times, some two or three times for a count of 5 or 10).   This drains residual capacitance.
We plugged back in the battery and AC and it began to charge.
Might be worth a try here before he opens it up ....

  • I currently use a Time Capsule for my wi fi. I would like to extend its range and have been looking at boosters. Is Airport Express the best booster solution when using the Time Capsule or is there a better solution?

I currently use a Time Capsule for my wi-fi (2008). I would like to extend its range. While there are many boosters that can do the job, what is the best option? How is Airport Express as an option?

The Time Capsule (TC) can have its wireless network extended by another TC, an 802.1n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), or 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn).
If your TC is a simultaneous dual-band version, only another TC or AEBSn will be able to extend both radios. The AXn can only support one radio (2.4 or 5 GHz) at a time.

  • My iPod nano 4GB (2nd gen.) battery was great, now its dying within a few hours?

    Hello,
I have a iPod nano 4 GB (2nd gen.) I have had it for years and up till recently the battery was great on it.
For a few weeks now my battery will die very quickly. I will have it fully charged and within 2 hours it will be dead. I have no applications running, just music. Nothing has changed at how I use it, but the battery just does not hold.
I charged it again last night and listened to music for about 30 min when I checked it, the battery was about dead. I gave it a few min. then it said it was half way charged?
I do not have wi-fi or anything on this...just music.
I also checked to make sure its software was up to date which it is. Can it just be the batterys worn out?
    Thanks

Yes.  Your iPod's Lithium ion battery will slowly start to lose its ability to retain full capacity over time.  Nothing lasts forever.  Sorry.

  • My ipod touch 1g's battery doesnt show when its dying

would anyone know why my ipod touch 1g's battery stopped showing when its dying? the battery always looks 98% charged even when i plug it into my computer. ill be using it then it powers off on its own and when i try to plug it into my computer when it powers off it doesnt start up my itunes. i have to mess with it by pressing the power button and the sleep button at the same time and sometimes that doesnt even work. its not until i open my itunes and plug and unplug my ipod numerous times that then it will charge but even then when it does the battery looks fully charged. PLEASE HELP!!! THANK YOU!!!

    Have you tried:
    - Resetting your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restoring your iPod via iTunes.  First restore from backup and if problems persist restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • "Built In " battery ... what is the best way to deal with it ?

Hi ... I just bought this laptop envy6-1100se with a built in battery and I actually heard alot of diffrent opinions about the best way to deal with the battery and charging and I don't know what to trust to make my batterylife the longest   so hope u can help me with that .. I want to know also if there is any damage to the battery if I kept it plugged to Ac Power even after it's totally charged ... ??

You want to minimize the number of charge/discharge cycles so yes it is actually a real good idea to have it plugged in whenever you can. Just to illustrate, Samsung makes several models with integrated batteries and they actually have a setting in the BIOS where you can choose to cut off charging at 80% battery power. If it never goes above 80%, then discharging and charging below the 80% level never registers as a cycle. The battery has a smart chip that counts cycles. After a certain number, say 500, the battery will no longer work. This is to minimize the fire hazard from older Li-ion batteries. In other words, you trade runtime on a "full" charge for longevity of the battery. You might go from 5 hours to 4 on a single charge but the battery will last 4 years instead of two and a half. The battery can actually be replaced but it is a huge pain. The "Samsung" solution is not available on HP's that I have been able to determine.
So, as I said there is not much you can do except use AC power as much as possible and treat the battery like your life savings; use it sparingly.
And I recognize that when it comes to batteries on laptops, it is like a discussion of religion. There is more than one respectable opinion but this is mine.
