Disable caps lock stops working...

I've been using the modifier key setting to disable caps lock and it's great!
Only now after some time the caps lock key suddenly starts working as normal
I can turn it off again in system preferences and it'll work for a while, but it's so annoying that the setting won't keep.
I think this problem started appearing after the latest security update, but can't really say for sure when it started...

glote, I'm having the same problem, as well as startup items (Safari, iCal, AddressBook, Font Xplorer) not hiding themselves. It started after the 10/.6.1 upgrade. Any news on your end?

My iMac is only several weeks old and the light on caps lock stopped working any advice?

    Hi
Does the Caps lock still work, just not the LED?
Or does the caps lock not work at all? You usually have to hold the caps button for 1-2 seconds.
If the key is indeed faulty, then you should contact Apple, or go to an Apple Retail Store, or Service Provider to have the keyboard replaced

  • How to disable Caps Lock?

I am tired of constantly hitting the Caps Lock key by mistake. I know there is a way to disable it with a Unix command. Unfortunately, I've forgotten what it is.
    Please Help.

I don't know the Unix command but if you look under *System Preferences* open Keyboard and choose *Modifier Keys*. Click on *Caps Lock Key* and change the choice to No Action. Now the caps lock key will no longer work till you need it.

  • CANNOT DISABLE CAPS LOCK

I CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO DISABLE MY CAPS LOCK, IF I PRESS IT,THE CAPS LOCK LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF, BUT IT DOES NOT ACTUALLY DISABLE THE CAPS LOCK, LOGGING INTO EMAILS AND WEBSITES HAS BEEN A HASSLE WITH CASE SENSITIVE PASSWORDS. PLEASE ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Sounds like a faulty keyboard. Can you beg/borrow/steal another? Any USB keyboard will work - even one from a PC!

  • Disable caps lock key

Is there an easy way to disable the caps lock key?  I keep hitting it on my Pavilion DV2z and it serves no purpose for my typical operations.  Suggestions?

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
    "Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,3a,00,00,00,00,00
Works in XP, not sure about other versions of Windows.

  • Cannot get Caps Lock to work

I have turned on the "Caps Lock" option in my keyboard settings, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. It was working, but is not now. Any suggestions?

Ok, just wanted to check. Helped others in past that thought turning the setting on meant it made the caps button lock with just tapping once. Just wanted to be clear.
As for you saying you reset...mind if I ask how you reset. Did you just turn off then back on, or did you do a real reboot/reset.
    To be more clear.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.

  • Cap Locks not working properly

I have a macbook pro  running 10.6.8 & the cap lock turns on when I press the 2nd bracket key. The cap lock stays on until I press the 2nd bracket key again. It will not turn on when I press the cap lock key or shift cap lock key. I tried resetting all shortcuts in system preferences & rebooting the computer, but it is still the same. I can't use the 2nd bracket key now. Any ideas?

    Try the procedures outlined here
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1381>
But it sounds to me like a hardware problem. You can test with an external keyboard—if the external works as expected while the built-in doesn't, it's likely a hardware fault.
I hope you're covered by AppleCare, because my bet is that you'll have to replace the keyboard. (But I've lost bets before…)

  • Disabling Caps Lock?

I'm new to the mac world and have a brand new macbook. Coming from a linux/X-Windows background I am used to being able to remap my keyboard's functionality, or more importantly, disable particularly undesireable parts of it and I am not yet familiar enough with the MacBook to do that.
I'm trying to figure out how to disable the Caps Lock key. I rarely need to type things in upper case and when I do, I can press the shift key.
Any insights you could give me on how to accomplish that would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    John

Found it. System Prefs->Keyboard and Mouse->Keyboard->Modifiers

  • Apple full size USB keyboard - ESC, tilde, tab, & caps lock not working

I was logging into my email account yesterday & went to tab from the username to password fields & the tab key is all of a sudden not working. It was working the day before, but not now. Upon further checking, the ESC, tilde, & caps lock buttons don't work either. So ESC, tilde, tab, & caps lock are all not working now. (???)
I have the white w/ clear base full size USB wired keyboard. When I unplug & plug back in the USB cord or shut down & restart, the light on the caps lock key does come on as it should.
I have tried many of the various fixes (Universal Access, etc) that I've found online, but to no avail.
No spills or damage & I can't imagine that they all 4 would work one day & then be too dirty to just not work the next.
    Any ideas to resolve???

All on the left side of the keyboard - might be a circuit board issue. But try deep cleaning that side of the keyboard. I have used a vacuum cleaner with a sock over the nozzle. (Keys do sometimes come loose - the sock keeps them from being sucked into the vacuum.)

  • Caps lock not working

I can't seem to figure out what the "caps lock" setting is used for. I assumed it was to change the shift key to a CAPS LOCK key but it doesn't do anything different wether it's on or off. Is this a bug or a non-feature? Anyone get it to work?

    rtln,
When the Caps lock feature is enabled, double tapping the shift key will put it in caps lock. This is documented on Page 21 of the current revision of the iPhone User's Guide at this link:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhoneUserGuide.pdf
The User's Guide has been updated periodically when firmware updates are released, and so that page number may vary in the future. It may also vary if the User's Guide is in a different language.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • M key/caps lock not working

Hello. I've had my Macbook since December 2007. Since day one, I have to press harder on both my M key and my caps lock key to get them to work. I can press pretty lightly on all my other keys and they work just fine, but I practically have to slam my fingers down on these two keys. The only option that support gave me was to visit an Apple Store. However, the closest one is two hours away. Is there anything else I can do to fix this? Why can't I just send it in?
    Thanks.

  • Caps lock button works in reverse!

    Dear All,
this is my problem: the caps lock button (with green LED) on my MacBook Pro 13 "mid-2009, works in reverse! When the LED is on (green light) I type lowercase fonts, when the LED is off I type uppercase fonts!
I tried everything: booting from an external disk with different operating system from mine (I use MacOSX 10.7.5), reset PRAM, reset SMC, removed the internal battery, made test hardware, Disk Warriors, etc.. I brought the laptop at an Apple-authorized center where they tried all they know, but nothing was found.
I called Apple support and the guy suggests me to format the disk (I don't make it, and sincerely it's not seems the solution for me.
However, someone tells me something to do?
Thanks in advance for all your answers.
    Ennio Busato (from Italy)

    Hi,
I just followed the steps “Before resetting the SMC” and afterwards the steps to set up the SMC, BUT THE PROBLEM STAYS AGAIN.
Now, I want try to remove the internal hard disk and start with an external hard disk (or with a CD); in this mode I want to see if the problem is related to the HD/System or to the motherboard.
    Thanks.

  • Caps Lock Not Working...Really

Yes, I know that I need to enable Caps Lock in Settings. And yes I know that I need to double-tap the shift key and that if it is enabled it will be outlined in blue to indicate that it's on.
But, my caps lock feature will not activate. It worked briefly on the first day, but hasn't worked since. I've turned it off and on several times and tried to get it to activate. Nothing.
Any other suggestions? Maybe the key is bad?

I reset the settings, and now it works.
I didn't completely reset the iPhone (which would have erased all my data).
All that said, I'm also wondering if perhaps this wasn't user error on my part, still. I'm now wondering if I wasn't double-tapping fast enough. I've figured out that the taps have to come in a fairly quick succession.

  • Disable Caps Lock Indicator Yoga 14

I just purchased a yoga 14 with windows 8.1. I want to disable the caps lock notification and almost all of the old solutions for windows 7 do not apply because there is no "On-Screen Display" tab. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you for confirming.
    This one, yes: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-1470
My apologies. I mistakenly thought that only the ThinkPad line sported a 14" Yoga.
