Disable changing accounts 'Full Name' field

Just wondering how to disable users from changing their AD accounts 'Full name' field in the Users & Groups preferences.
We need there mac account name it to be their actual Active Directory name but right now they can change it to anything they want, including Emoji characters which can't be read on anything else.
/private/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/users/username.plist
This has the key of RealName which is the name they can change from System Preferences.
Is there a way to stop them changing the name?

  • Can't Change Account Full Name

In System Prefs > Users & Groups,
The text entry field to change the User's Full Name is no longer there.  Does anyone know how to change the User's Full Name? in OS 10.10?
At the moment, my user full name is "Philip's MacPro".  Before the upgrade it was just my first and last name.  Don't know how I managed to change it but I want to change it back.  Any ideas?

Many thanks!  That did the trick

  • How can I change the "Full Name" for my iCloud account?

    Hello,
At some point in the past, iCloud started identifying me as someone else when I send emails. This incorrect name appears to be the "Full Name" setting of the email account, but when modifying the properties for the email account in Mail the field for modifying the "Full Name" setting is disabled, not allowing me to make any changes.
Where is the correct place to change the "Full Name" setting for my iCloud account?
    Thanks,
    - Josh

I believe it can be changed by going to https://appleid.apple.com/, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in with your iCloud ID, select "Name, ID and Email Addresses", then click "Edit" next to the name listed under "Your Name" and change it as desired.
Also, if you are trying to change the sender name for your iCloud email account, you'll want to go to icloud.com, sign into your account, open Mail, click the gear shaped icon on the bottom left and choose Preferences, go to the Accounts tab and enter the name you want to use in the Full Name field and click Done.  Then quit Mail (Command-Q) on your Mac and re-open it.  Your new From name should now appear in the drop-down list when you compose a new email.
(The image was removed in your post above because it showed your iCloud email address.)

  • For my iCloud account, how do I change the "full name" that appears as the sender?

On my iCloud IMAP email account, the account lists my "full name" as the sender.  How do I change this to a nickname?  Curently, that "full name" rectangle is grayed out so I don't know how to change what's there.  Thanks for your help!

You need to change this on the iCloud website, http://icloud.com - go to the Mail page, click the cogwheel icon at top right and choose 'Preferences', then click 'Accounts' in the toolbar of the pane which opens.
Select the main account and you can change the Full Name. If you have aliases you will have to change it separately for each of them.

I have asked the hosts to consider editing out your name details for your own security.   I'm not sure what you should now do.    Go to https://getsupport.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Apple ID account Security'

    Dear All,
I need to change the Full Name on my Icloud E-Mail Account, but I cannot change it, Any Solution ?

Go to icloud.com >> mail >> gear in the upper right >> preferences >> accounts.  You can change it there.  In my testing, I had to close and reopen my mail.app for it to take affect.

  • How to change my 'full name' in Mail on iPhone?

I use a me.com address and iCloud. I successfully changed my full name in Mail on my Mac, but won't show up on mail sent from phone.

Ah, after endless searching, this popped up in "More like this" right after I posted:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar> Select the email account with the issue and go into the Account Info area. In the Name field enter your full name.
Looks like it has to be changed locally on the phone. Thanks!

  • HT201342 How do I change the 'Full Name' on my iCloud Mail (and on my Apple ID as I think this is where it gets the name)? Thanks

To change it on and iOS device, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your iCloud email account, tap you iCloud account at the top, tap Mail at the bottom, then enter the name you want to use in the Name field at the top.
To change the From name on your Mac Mail, go to icloud.com, sign into your account, open Mail, click the gear shaped icon on the top right and choose Preferences, go to the Accounts tab and enter the name you want to use in the Full Name field and click Done.  Then quit Mail on your Mac and re-open it.  Your new From name should now appear in the drop-down list when you compose a new email.

  • Changing my full name

    Hello,
Several years ago I registered for an Apple ID with the name "XYZ". Since then, I have changed it to be "ABC" in my Apple ID configuration page, and it's indeed been updated.
Currently I'm trying to register for an iOS dev program, but it appears that in the "Full Name" box there is "XYZ" again, without any option to change it.
I tried to contact the iTunes Store Support, but this issue falls outside their specialty.
How can I change my "Full Name" to be "ABC"?
    Thanks!

  • Can you change the "Full Name" of a BO account

We have a user who has changed their surname. We can rename the Account Name but the Full Name is greyed out and I cna't see anyway I can change this.
How have you handled such name changes (it may even apply if you have setup an account name and made a spelling error).
    With thanks
    Gill

    Gill,
Looks like your CMS is integrated with some sort of 3rd party security like LDAP, AD &/or SAP.  If you want the option to change/update users FULL name then you must un-check that option.
See example for SAP Integration where the FULL Name, Email setting are NOT being imported over from SAP.
    Regards,
    Ajay

  • Changing your account full name

Is there some way to change the fullname of an account?
My current account is like this:
    Fullname: John Doe
    UNIX name: john
I want my Fullname to also be just John, because it frequently puts in my last name when I don't want it to in various apps, and I see it from other systems when I rather just see my given name as my full name.
If I try to change my fullname to "John", it says the name is taken, which isn't true, but I assume is because it matches the account UNIX name.
Since the two do not conflict, this is likely a bug in the account preference. Anyone found a way around it?
You can create brand new accounts with the same fullname and UNIX name, but evidently can't do that once one has been created.
    Thanks.

Ah, figured it out... run the following command with sudo or from root account:
    dscl . create /users/<shortname> RealName <new long name>
    That fixes it nicely.

  • Smtp - change my full name when i send an email

How do i get to change my name (my full name): When i send now an email the people who get my email see the adres of my email, but also my Full Name.
I understand that this i sthe name that i have typed in when i activted the icloud account and this is the name that people see when they get an email from me. But how can i change this?
I logged in on my profile, and changed my name, but still my earlier name is there to see. And i don't want that. (no, i have nothing to hide )

This might work.  I had the same problem in Mail on my iMac.
FIrst, login to www.icloud.com.  If your name is right on iCloud, open Mail in the iCloud window and click on the gear icon (prefeences)  You can fix your name there.  On the iMac, I had to wait a few minutes, quit and restart Mail, and check preferences.  Then on starting a new message, there was a pulldown under "From", that I used to select the one with my correct name and correct email address.  I just deleted that blank email, and others since then default to the correct name.
Don't know if this will work for mail sent from the iPhone, but once the Cloud Mail is corrected, hopefully it will do the trick.

  • Can not login after changing account short name and home directory

    Hi,
I did sth rather stupid while trying a get timemachine working on my iMac 10.5.5.
I changed the short name, login shell and home directory of my account. (didn't listen to the waning that I may not be able to login if I change those information Now I can not log into my account anymore. I tried to use fileVault master password to change the password of my account, but it didn't help. Can anyone tell me how do I fix this problem?
    Thanks a lot!

No, I still can not log in as that user.
I did as you advised, but it gave the following message:
"attache failed, no such file or directory"
then I suspect you may be entering the command incorrectly. another possibility is this. I noticed you said in one of the previous posts that if you cd into the main user home directory you only see user.sparseimage. It actually should be user.sparsebundle. Or have you upgraded to leopard from tiger with filevault turned on? then it could have remained sparseimage rather than sparsebundle.
    run the following in terminal
    sudo ls -la /users/username
    and post the results.
does it list sparsebundle or sparseimage?
Another thing, when I typed in the command, it didn't take the admin (root) password, but the password of the account I was logged in got me through.
that's what it has to be. it takes the password of the user (it jhas to be an admin user) which is currently logged in.
I am wondering if I can recover the problem user's files from the sparseimage file, then copied all the files to a new user.

  • Changing account's name, nickname?

When I change my administrator's name, the short name or nickname does not change. Is there a way?

    Hi Paul
It is safer to create a new account as your Mac does not like its account names being changed, so it is not succumbing.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1951.html
If you really want to change the shortname it is possible. One method is detailed here.
