Disable Crystal reports grey fields in the preview

Dear forum users, I've got an application not written by me (so I do not have source code) that displays a Report in a standard Crystal Report Viewer. In the preview when I click on a field it gets rounded with a grey border, filled with a grey background.
This is causing me some problems when I use the application via Remote Desktop Connection.
Since I don't like this feature the question is: can I disable this feature (maybe by changing an entry in the Registry Editor)?
Best regards
Alessandro

Hi Alessandro,
I think maynot be. whats the screen resolution of your system? If you change it probably you can see that particular grey box clearly.
or
try to export that file to excel or pdf. probably you will see the file with you vagueness.

  • Random Characters insterted into Crystal Reports string fields

    I'm having a problem where random characters are being inserted into string fields in my crystal reports, I talked to a representative and they are unable to fix the problem, so I'm asking here if someone has a workaround.  The characters are always outside of the normal set of characters, so I'd like to know if there is a way to only allow certain characters in a given field using formulas.  (for example, at a very simple level, i would input a list of "legal characters" and the field in crystal wouldn't display anything but those characters)
    thanks for your time and help

    Sorry, i think I've been a bit imprecise so far
    So these characters ONLY appear when printing the report and not when previewing the report in Crystal Reports?
    They appear when previewing, when actually printing, everything after the characters is cut off
    Are you printing directly from CR or from Enterprise/Infoview or another custom application?
    From CR (both to PDF and paper)
    When did you update your print driver last?
    Not sure, although this may be moot since it also shows up in the preview?
    Have you printed on another printer and does it too exhibit the same behavior?
    Same as above?
    Was the report created by you in CRXI? Are your regional settings set to English (language)?
    Yes I created the report in CRXI, and in terms of the regional settings, I'm not sure but would assume so, how do I check/change this?

  • Crystal Report Formula for traversing the Hierarchy

    Hi Friends,
    I have a Hierarchy Node Variable in Query Designer and I use the same in my Crystal Report.
    I need to create a formula, which will traverse and find all of the child nodes of the selected Hierarchy Node (through the variable). Could you please let me know if this is possible and send me the code.
    Thanks in Advance!
    Regards,
    Vinaya Paulraj.

    Hi Vinaya
    In Crystal, under the 'Report' menu, there is an item called ''Hierarchical Grouping Options'. This item allows you to sort information based on the relationship between two fields.
    For example:
    The following example is based on using the sample database called Xtreme that ships with Crystal Reports and Xtreme's Employee table.
    There is an {Employee ID} field and {Reports to} field in the Employee table. These fields both contain an Employee ID number. There can be employees with employees that report to them. In other words, there can be employees that report to a higher level of management. You want to see the overall hierarchy of the employees. To do so, you would use the 'Hierarchical Grouping Option' in Crystal Reports.
    To view the employee hierarchy from the Employee table, complete the following:
    1. Create a group and group on {Employee ID}. You want to group on {Employee ID} because you want to see the overall hierarchy of employees.
    · From the 'Insert' menu, select 'Group'.
    · From the 'Insert Group' dialog box, select {Employee.Employee ID} in the first drop-down list.
    · Click 'OK'.
    2. Create a hierarchical group.
    · From the 'Report' menu, select 'Hierarchical Grouping Options'.
    · Select 'Sort Data Hierarchically'.
    · Select {Reports to} from the drop-down list for 'Parent ID'. In this example, the {Reports to} field is the parent field; therefore, we must select it in the 'Parent ID' field.
    3. Indenting the hierarchical group, you must enter a value between 0 and 4 inches.
    The 'Group Indent' setting only affects the display of the report. If you enter a value other than zero (0) the various levels of hierarchy will appear indented when the report is previewed. Thus making it easier to see the various groups of employees, managers, etc.
    For more information, search the online help for 'Grouping data hierarchically'.

  • Vista/Adobe 9/sql image Error in Crystal Report:Failed to Export the Report

    When I try to export my Crystal Report (v2008) from a Vista machine (using Crystal RDC export methods) as a PDF, I get the following error:
    Error in Crystal Report:  Failed to export the report.
    This only happens when a particular subreport (that contains a sql image) prints (based on an input parameter).  We have other subreports (within this same report) that print a sql image just fine.  But, when this subreport prints, the above error appears.
    I can run the same report on an XP machine without error.
    Exportmodeller.dll and crtsv.dll are both installed and registered to the
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\bin folder
    I have tried opening the report, removing the image, and then adding it back in again to the subreport.
    Still receive the same error.
    Any suggestions?

    Don,
    Can you please clarify?
    Our VB6 app that uses Crystal XI RDC runtime components.  Our Crystal reports are edited in CR2008 SP1 developer edition (not through the VB.NET embedded report designer).  We have deployed the CRXIRelease 2 runtime components (via the merge module) to our client machines in order to execute the RDC.
    We can print/preview/export to excel, but the pdf creation is failing with this error.
    We are only using the RDC (which we know is no longer supported) because of huge issues with the Crystal for .NET methods we are having with our customers (I have an active case for this issue).  Therefore, we have to rollback our .NET product and revert to the RDC code.
    Vista is failing to create a PDF for a report developed in the CR2008 SP1 developer edition when using the RDC.
    When you say  "Also, those old dll's will not work in CR 2008. Last patches will give you the option to export to Excel in Legacy mode. We built it into our export dll.", what do you mean by "will not work in CR2008"?
    Thank you

    I never really had much luck with this approach.
    Mind you I was using Crystal Reports 10, and as far as I recall it didn't allow setting/changing of database at this level.
    Things to check
    - can you create a database connection on your page with this URL/username/password?
    - what server are you using? Tomcat? WebLogic?
    I found this in your other post:
    Connection Information: {Server Name=ee6rpt, Connection String=DSN=s(ee6rpt);User ID=s(ee62test);Password=;UseDSNProperties=b(false), Database Name=, Database DLL=crdb_odbc.dll}That would indicate it is using odbc to connect to the database (crdb_odbc.dll). ODBC is a bad idea with java.
    The way I have got it to work for me (after much trial and error) was to in Crystal Reports to connect using the Oracle Driver, and specifying a tnsname - eg define REPORT_DS in tnsnames.ora.
    When running through the JRC, it looked for a JNDI datasource under that same name "REPORT_DS".
    Don't know if that will help you or not.
    Good luck,

  • Field Explorer in Crystal Reports does not show the same names as Bex Query

    Hi
    I have crystal reports, I can retrieve data from BW Bex Query. But in the field explorer it does not show the names as in the Bex query designer.
    In the Bex query designer a field will have the following technical name 0Debitor and the description is Customer.
    It shows in crystal reports in the field explorer twice as D[0DEBITOR]D and D[0DEBITOR]D. It also does not seperate key figures and characteristics.
    I would like it to display the field explorer as shown in this blog.

  • Switch from OINV to ODRF in Crystal Report layout for print the Invoice?

    Hi,
    I have imported in Sap Business One some standard report developed by Sap with Crystal Report (like Sales Invoice).
    I have try to print my Invoices and all is OK, then I have try to print a Draft Invoice and, even in this case, is all ok. Then I have open the Crystal Report designer for this print module, and the entry point is the OINV table. How can he print succesful the Draft Invoice (that is in the ODRF table ObjType = 13)? Formula Field? I don't understand!!
    Thank for the help!!
    Marco

    Hi Marco,
    You only need a single Crystal report for this. Base it on a stored procedure which has two INT type parameters @DocKey and @ObjectId. Within your SQL create IF blocks to handle different @ObjectId values:
    IF @ObjectId = 13 then use the invoices tables OINV/INV1 etc.
    IF @ObjectId = 112 then use the draft tables ODRF/DRF1 etc.
    Don't forget to put the @ symbol at the end of the parameter in the report itself. That is all that is needed to create a single report that works for both added invoices and draft invoices. You could extend the SQL to handle other @ObjectId values like 14 for AR Credit Notes and so on.

    Andrew.

  • How to change crystal report data field at runtime ?

    Hello everyone,
    I have a Crystal Report file ,which i am using to generate report for my windows form project .
    In that report i have a filed called as Quantity which data type is set as decimal, the requirement is like that the number of value those comes after decimal point that should be set according to the value which is given by the user at the run time .
    For eg: If user gives 1 at the run time then the report Qty field value set one value after decimal point. Like 12.1
    if user gives 2 then Qty field the value is 12.22 like tat  but user can give from zero to any number.. and if it is zero it should not show decimal
    Note: The main idea hear is how to change the filed in Crystal Report decimal point value by using code(or we say writing code we need to set manually as user input it will change)
    Can any body help me how to solve this issue .
    S.K Nayak

    I think you could probably make the field you see a formula field and take a parameter as the number of decimal places.
    totext converts a number to a string.
    totext({decimalField}, 2)
    That's 2 decimal places.
    You could probably substitute a {parameter} for that 2.
    If not then you could substitute an entire formula.
    To explore formulas:
    foreach (FormulaFieldDefinition f in rpt.DataDefinition.FormulaFields)
    MessageBox.Show(f.Name);
    // f.Text = your new formula
    Where rpt is an instantiated report.
    Or add another string field which you display in the column and do the calculation with the original decimal.
    Hope that helps.

  • Crystal report 8.5/ changing the format conditionally

    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Using Cyrstal Report 8.5  I have a letter on the crystal report which get populated from the sql database by the sql procedure..That letter includes the Name and the full address. And if the customer has the apt number it prints that as well.So this is how it goes. Amin Shah91 09 Tample AveApt # 31Elmont NY, 11373     so each line there is accociated with the field from the stored procedure. But what happens is that when the customer doesnt have the Apt # that line prints empty and there comes a blank line. So for that I have to shift that TownState row up.   I don't know how to do this. If anyone can help  please.Thanks.

    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    split up the section the address is in so that Apt # 31 is in its own section (can all still be in details or a single group -- you just break it apart using "insert section below" or by splitting the section with your mouse).  Lines below show breaking of sections. __________  Amin Shah91 09 Tample Ave ____________ Apt # 31_____________Elmont NY, 11373_______________  Then choose "suppress blank section" for the Apt #31 section.  If you have anything in the section besides database fields you will need to conditionally suppress those as well so that the section really is blank (and therefore will be suppressed by the 'suppress blank section').

  • Using Crystal Reports 2008 SP3 with the Brother 9500PC, 9700PC, and P9800PC

    We have using Crystal Reports with the Brother Label printers for years until we were forced to use Crystal 2008.  The label printers have worked in the past and we usually create a label template in the printer driver and this configuration is stored in the Crystal Report.  These label printers can use several different size cartridges.  When creating a report using the Editor, the report displays and prints correctly using the template embedded into the report.  This is using the updated SP3.3 service pack.  The problem is in the Run Time application that is embedded in another application to run the reports.  When printing a label from the application, the report previews just fine with the correct size and format.  However, when you try to print the label, the run time driver ignores the template embedded in the report and instead uses the default settings for the printer driver.  So, if I have a 1 inch cartridge in the printer, and the default settings for the printer is a 1 1/2 inch cartridge, then the report will try to print assuming there is a 1 1/2 inch cartridge which will cause the application to fail.  This is a problem with Crystal 2008 (12) and we would like to find a solution to this.  Thanks, Doug

    Hi Cameron,
    You can setup custom label sizes in Crystal.  In the folder where you installed Crystal Reports is a text file called Labels_en.txt.  This contains the label definition Crystal uses.  You can add a new label in here.
    Now when you open Crystal and create a new report by selecting the Mailing Label Repotr Wizard, you will see your new label when you get to that step.
    When save a report, the report will do two things.  If you have set the report to a specific printer, Crystal saves the printer and paper settings inside the RPT.  When the print engine runs the report, if it can't find the printer saved in the report it will default to the default printer.
    What I believe is happening is the application is loading the report and because it can't find the label printer it was designed with it's going to the default printer.  So you do have to set the PrintReportOptions in your application to redirect the report to the correct printer, driver and papersize.
    This has pretty much been the way since version 4 that I can remember.  The positive side is you don't have to set all the parameters yourself.  You can get the PrintReportOptions from the report when you open it.  Then you just need to pass the printer name, driver and port.  The rest of the options (papersize) will already be populated from the Get.
    Good luck,
    Brian

  • Crystal report: How to concatenate the string whilereadingrecords?

    I have description field in the database and I need to concatenate the value of the filed into one line. How to do that? I tried as below
    Stringvar strtitle="";

    if Mid({OrderDtl.PartNum},1,2)="T3" Then
    strtitle & "T3- Background Music,"
    Else if Mid({OrderDtl.PartNum},1,2)="T6" then

    This is not working and showing only last value instead of concatenated string. I am very new to Crystal report and i am using Crystal report 2008
    Thanks,
    Raj

    Hi Raj,
    I guess you're trying to concatenate the descriptions so that they appear on a single line, perhaps, on the report footer?
    Try this formula:
    whilereadingrecords;
    stringvar strtitle;
    strtitle := strtitle + ">" + {description_field_from_database}
    The ">" sign is to separate the records from each other; you may choose to remove this from the formula or use another separator.
    Place the above formula in the details section and suppress the section.
    Create this formula to display the result and place it in the Report Footer section:
    evaluateafter(@Name_of_the_above_formula);
    stringvar strtitle;
    Let me know how this goes!
