Disable data roaming

How can I prevent data roaming when I go to a foreign country when I still want to keep the call roaming active?
When I search a new network in a foreign country, I find the nokia messaging look activate that cause me some data roaming charge. Any way I can disable all data connection except thru the wifi device I want.

I'm using 5800 under roaming for about five months now, I have never encountered a data roaming charge, when ever my phone tries to connect to a data network I get a warning about data roaming and I can simply prevent the connection by appropriate selection of the prompt message.
Anyways preventing the data roaming is not very hard in any symbian device, it's not very straight forward as other platforms though. You can always alter the destination setting (APN, by astound a junk piece at the end) so that your phone will not connect to data network (either on roaming our not).
Also new symbian has the one touch setting needed. My N8 allows me to select between data connection in home network, always and wifi only.

  • How to disable data roaming with Nokia 97mini

    Hello one and all,
Is it possible to disable data roaming on Nokia 97mini? I would like to be able to go abroad and have it automatically stop syncing my email etc... but still be able to use it for SMS and voice calls. I know that the iPhone has the ability to turn off data transfers when roaming on another network.
Can other so called 'smart' phones such as the Nokia 97 mini also do this?
I have searched in vain in the supplied user manual.
    All help greatly appreciated.
    T

I don't believe there's such an option, sorry. S60's got plenty of options for managing call roaming but as far as I know data roaming hasn't come up.
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.

  • Disabling Data roaming on a Z30

    Hi All,
I have managed to find instructions online for the Z10 but not the Z30.
We are a mobile sales provider and I have a customer asking for instructions to disable data roaming on the device. I was wondering if it was the same as the Z10.
The instructions I have put together are as follows:
    1) Go into the settings menu --> Network Connections --> Mobile Network --> turn off under Data services while roaming.
Can anyone confirm if its the same for the Z30?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Yes, it's the same.

  • Disabling data roaming on passport

Since i bought the Passport 4 months ago , and the device ,whatever i do : keep on data roaming !! i tried every thing : -click off the data roaming , click off the data service , but still that triangle is there and getting charged for data roaming !! the only way it works is that if i turn off the phone service ! other wise no way ...... is it a defected divice or what ?

Ok , i will answer as per your sequence :
    - yes .
    - as long as the triangle is there , i 'm charged for data roaming ! despite Data off , roaming off .
    - even i celected prompt , i switch on the mobile network , a window warning me that data roaming is costly ; do you
want to continue or no , for sure i selected NO , but still the triangle is there , and i have been charged for the          FORTH month with no matter what i select , only if i turn the Mobile network Off ,so i can use via wifi But no Mobile    network .
    - yes.
    - no, and here is the core of the problem , and that's why i have been charged heavily during the last 4 months ( which when i bought the Passport ) because while i'm roaming with no Wifi available , i have No data service , till i reach a Wifi conection , then all my emails , whatsApp , BBM,,,,,downloaded  !! and i told that to my Mobile network provider ,  but they told  me ; you have data roaming usage ! that's mean when i'm conected via Wifi and i have Network connection i will be charged even the Data service is Off ! noticing that No Wifi , the triangle is there though i can't receive any Data while roaming as long as the device on No data service! another word : i have been charged while using Wifi ,,,,,
    - No .

  • Sudden data roaming charge to phone with data roaming disabled on Motorola droid

I have used a droid for the 2 years plus that I have been with Verizon.  I work for a cruise line on a ship.  I am in port every 8 days and use my phone on that day.  I leave my data roaming TURNED OFF at ALL times because I am aware that charges for this are very high when roaming on a ship (I have worked on cruise ships for over 12 years).
For two years I have used my phone in the US port that serves as my home port (Ft Lauderdale this year) and when I get back on board I put the phone in my pocket, forget about it until I get to my room at which time I put it on my desk and it stays there until I either turn it off or until the battery dies.  I have NEVER been charged data roaming fees in the past two years until the past month.  I have made NO CHANGE whatsoever in the way my phone is set up.
This month I received over 500 dollars in data roaming charges which I am being told are 'legitimate charges' because apparently data was pushed to my phone while it was on the ship sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale with data roaming DISABLED.  This happened every 8 days (the debark/embark day for my ship) for an entire month billing period.  Customer Service reps have looked and determined that the data is being pushed to my phone late in the day as my ship sails out of Ft. Lauderdale.
I initially called Verizon on Nov 30th (after receiving messages on the 29th warning me that I was being charged higher than normal data roaming charges) and was told that I was indeed setting my phone up correctly to prevent Data Roaming charges and an investigation was started.  I was not told to change anything about the way my phone was set up, as long as in fact Data Roaming was disabled.  On December 4th my phone again had data pushed to it as the ship sailed away from Florida.  I called on the 5th of December and was told to turn ALL DATA off on my phone when getting on a ship.  By this time the entire 500 plus dollar amount of data had somehow been pushed to my phone.  (I have no idea what the heck it is...I didn't use it for anything).
Since this has happened I have called multiple customer service reps, all of whom have been very nice on the phone and promised to look into the matter and call me back.  No one has ever called back.  Twice supervisors have submitted my data roaming charges to be removed only to be turned down by someone saying the charges are correct and that data was sent to my phone and thus the charges are legitimate.  The point that I make over and over again is that I wasn't told by anyone from Verizon to turn ALL DATA off when going on a ship until December 5th, and further that my usage pattern with the phone during the past month is EXACTLY the same as it has been over the past two plus years when I WAS NOT being charged for data roaming.  By December 5th all the charges had already accrued so following directions to TURN ALL DATA OFF when on the ship didn't affect my outstanding charges.  (Further, I called Motorola and a tech there told me that having data roaming disabled on the phone should be sufficient to prevent ANY data from being received by the phone while it is roaming...this, he told me, is exactly why the phone has that option as well as the ability using a completely different button to turn on and off ALL data.
I did speak with another Customer Service rep today who told me that she had resolved the issue and that an adjustment would be made to my bill within the next 48 hours.  I asked her if this was contingent on approval from somewhere up the line and she said no, that she understood what I was saying and plead my case successfully to a supervisor and the adjustment was being made.
If the adjustment is in fact made I will repost here stating that.  If it isn't made then it will be the 6th phone call I have made to Customer Service that hasn't resulted in taking care of an issue that is in NO WAY my fault nor is it my responsibility in my opinion.  I set my phone up NOT to receive data while roaming and after there was a problem I followed the instructions that Verizon Customer Service personnel gave me to the letter.
Just to clarify, if this had happened the first month I had been on ships (over two years ago) when using Verizon or this phone then I would be more inclined to believe that I had made some mistake and just pay and turn the darned thing off carefully every time I walked up the gangway of the ship, but since I have had Data Roaming disabled the ENTIRE time I have owned the phone and have never been charged before then I feel I was justified in thinking that disabling Data Roaming on the phone would successfully.....well....disable the phones ability to receive DATA while ROAMING.

Thanks for that information.  I read a lot of posts here before I posted mine and based on what I have seen from others I tried to be as detailed as possible.  If I send anything to a VZW account I will leave my cell number and contact information as you suggest.  I'm still hopeful that the last customer service rep I talked to was honest and accurate when she told me the situation had been resolved in my favor.
I saw many posts from folks that seemed to be asking for adjustments to bills for mistakes that they themselves had made but I honestly don't think I'm in that postion.
On the other hand I am in the position of having to deal with Customer Service reps who have probably heard pretty much everything in the book from folks to try to get charges reduced, so upper level supervisors who can actually approve my bill adjustment are probably not even reading the entire text from my multiple phone calls and explanations,  thus simply declining the two supervisors who understood my situation and made the request for the billing adjustment.
The way it works (from what I can tell) is that the customer contact level person has a supervisor that they have to report to who then has to send any bill adjustment request (or perhaps any request over a certain amount) to another supervisor (one who is NOT ever in direct contact with customers) who makes the final call on whether or not a bill adjustment request goes through.
My main frustration comes from the fact that you can never request to speak with the last representative that you spoke with on the phone (according to all the reps I spoke with) and they can't even call each other...all of their communication is done via email.  This tends to ...from what I have experienced....create situations where a rep will tell a customer whatever they want to hear, knowing that there is almost NO CHANCE that they will ever have to speak to that customer again.  It also creates a situation where if the last rep didn't leave detailed or accurate notes then you have to go over every detail of your situation with the next rep you speak with.
My converstation with the Customer Service person who told me the issue was resolved took place yesterday morning so if things are actually taken care of then tomorrow should be the day the adjustment comes in at the latest.
Thanks again for your suggestion.  I wouldn't have known how to contact anyone directly from Verizon here without your post.

  • How to disable International Data Roaming

Today I connected to wireless data service from my Samsung Tab from India unintentionally and without being aware of the extremely high cost of such usage.  I got an email alert and estimated charges of $ 81.92 for merely 3.53 MB.   More expensive than GOLD !!!
I was trying to send Verizon an email to disable INTERNATIONAL DATA ACCESS & ROAMING for my Tablet BUT cannot find any Verizon Support email address to contact them.  THATS A SHAME.
I also signed to my account but there is no feature to disable international roaming.
I am so scarred even to turn on my tab for the fear that the device may automatically try to connect with service providers here in India and incur big charges for me.

    Hi Melissa,
I don't know how the device/service started communicating via 3G when the icon on the Samsung Galaxy Tab was showing as Wi-Fi connection.  I am having this device/service from Verizon for over 3 years now & been using a lot & had no similar incident when using in the US.
For the fear of unintended 3G connectivity & the charges there-off, I have completely stopped the usage of my Samsung Tab in India.  It has been TURNED OFF since 10/09/13.    I will check to see if I can find Deny Data Roaming on my Samsung Galaxy Device.  I did not find any such feature on my Verizon web account.
As, I will be back in the US by 10/28/13 -  it does not make much sense to change plans for such a short time.  However,  I would like to know if the charges can be discounted or partially waived on a one time basis and to be considered in the $ 25 / 100 MB international data package instead of $ 81.92 charged at this time.
    Thank you.
    Veena

  • E71 disable data connections on roaming

is there a system setting or recommended application to disable data connections in roaming?
on my other phone running android there is a switch on the menu and on top of that there is a switch app which disconnects connections and changes apn to prevent reconnecting.
I'm looking for similar solution for nokia e71... thanks!

i know about that but I do not want to be going to every application and making sure that it is configured not to use data...
I want global system setting which cuts out internet connection.
On android there is a nice program called apndroid which changes apn url temporarily and reverts back to original when you run it again.
I'm not familiar with programming on symbian but is there API access to apn settings so it could be changed by a script or software?

  • Permanently disable the data roaming option

    Hi,
is there a way to disable the data roaming option? Maybe via iPhone Config tool?
We would like to permanently disable, respectively password protect this option
for all our iPhone Users. Just setting a default value wouldn´t be enough.
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hye ChrisBLN,
Did you find out any solutions to your problem?
To be honest, I'm currently in exactly the same situation and would appreciate to know if you discovered any replies that shows it's possible?
I tried to manipulate ICU that seems to be made for this kind of problem but I can't find the right property/configuration.
    What about you?
    Thanks

  • Iphone data roaming - option not working ( urgent please help)

I am going on a long holiday (3months) to various countries from Canada and I will be using my phone only for the first leg of the journey for 15 days just to keep in touch with my family to say I'm safe and all. I dont want to unlock or jailbreak my phone.
Is there a way to disable the 3G to avoid roaming charges ( Since I am on a contract I cant ask my provider to block it) I turn on the data roaming option but the 3G sign is still shown and its still connecting to the network
    Is there any other way

"I turn on the data roaming option but the 3G sign is still shown and its still connecting to the network"
Are you out of the country when you do this? It won't disable data when you are in your home network.
    From the manual:
"Data Roaming turns on Internet and visual voicemail access over a cellular data
network when you’re in an area not covered by your carrier’s network. For example,
when you’re traveling, you can turn off Data Roaming to avoid potential roaming
charges. By default, Data Roaming is turned off. "
BTW, I'm not sure how helping you avoid a roaming bill is urgent. Some have much more "urgent" problems, like crashes, unresponsive iphones, etc.

  • How can I turn off data roaming while overseas?

I will be traveling and I don't want to incur any (very expensive) data roaming charges. How do I disable that function on my iPhone? Also, is it true you have to call your service provider (like AT&T) to turn off texting?

Just put your phone in Airplane mode. This turns off all iPhone radios, but you can go back into settings & turn both WiFi & Bluetooth back on. Data roaming should be off by default: Settings>General>Network...

  • I work abroad and i have data roaming switched off.

I work abroad and i have data roaming switched off. How do i disable the notification that continually pops up when sending a text? I know the data roaming is off because i switched it off, i do not need the phone telling me this everytime i write a text message.

Turn MMS Message off in Settings > Messages. MMS messages are sent over data unlike SMS. And as stated, MMS uses the Messages app.

  • HT1695 I am connected to my wifi and have turned my data roaming off but my phone is still not connecting to the internet. Why is this?

Am struggling to get online through my i-phone at home. It is fine at work where I have signal (but I go through the work wifi anyway), whereas at home I cannot get online at all, despite having strong wifi signal and disabling my data roaming on the phone. I am not very good with technology! Can anyone work out what I'm doing wrong please?

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

  • Data Roaming in the iPhone

    Hi
I usually use the Data Roaming option (inside my country) turned off... Do I need to use it turned on inside my country?
If i traver to another country (so, another carrier is selected) do I need to turn it on or off?
When I activate it, what "app's" are disable in my iPhone?
    Thanks for your help
    Martin

Ah, when you said "roaming" that implies it is provisioned by a US carrier. Here are the details: http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
But what I said is still true. Any unlocked iPhone (5 and later) will work anywhere in the world on GSM EDGE and HSPA+. However, LTE (4G) support uses different bands and different coding around the world, so the phone may not support LTE's very high speeds. This should not be a problem as HSPA+ in Europe is typically good for 20 Mbps.
