Disable document check in/check out
Hello,
I've seen similar questions on this forum, but none were my problems. I don't my document libraries to allow users to check-out files. I've gone to the document library settings>versioning settings and set "No versioning" and "no"
for "require documents to be checked out before they can be edited.
However, some how, documents are still being checked out. I don't want this to happen. How do I prevent any file in any document library from being checked out?
Please, don't post me any links to another site, they aren't helpful after going through the other forum posts related to this problem.
Thanks!
Dan

Document check out & check in issue
Hi ,
Need help in resolving following issue.
I have a document in document library and i do have all permissions on the document library. I am facing an issue with following sequence of steps.
1. Click on check out document
2. its automatically prompted with a dialog box to use "My local draft folder".
3. I have selected that check box and able to see the downloaded file in 'SharePoint Drafts" folder.
4. After clicking on ok button on above dialog box or popup, the system will automatically opens the down loaded file.
5. I have closed the opened file and again i have done "Check in" operation on same document (which was checked out previously) .After check in , I am getting following error and it is not allowing me do check
in.
As per our requirement user should not get above message and he/she should be able to do check in with out any issues.
Could some one please help me out in this issue.
FYI, We have implemented using OOTB feature and there is no custom code behind.
ThanksHi KRISHNA,
Please try to move out the particular file from the SharePoint Drafts folder, then check in the file again.
And make sure you are not using a system admin account or other account that does not match the local user account.
In addition, there are some similar posts, please check if they are useful for you:

Document Check-out Workflow initiation
How to start workflow(Attached with Document library) when document has been checked-out. I am using Sharepoint 2010 designer and I have tried with "Checked Out To" column updation, still workflow not getting trigger.
Thanks in Advance1. you can't
2. you shouldn't, it can break workflows (if the WF needs to make any changes to the list item, it can't since the list item is checked out to the user).
3. doing so wouldn't make sense... checking out represents saying "I might make a change, and I want to make sure no one else changes it until I decide"... checking IN a file represents saying "I made a change", and is when workflows
are executed.

How do I disable Check out dialog when opening Documents from SharePoint 2010
Hi
When I open a pdf document form a SharePoint Server 2010 in the client application (Adobe Reader X) I'm always promted to check out the document to be able to edit it. However in most cases I just want to view the document and the promt is a hinderance for most of the users. I can think of two possible solutions but I can get either of them done:
1. Disable the check out promt in Acrobad Reader
2. Make sure documents are always opened in the Browser (not in client application)
We configured everything right form the SharePoint point of view. What do I need to configure to achive either of the above things in Acrobat Reader?
LucasI'm still looking for an answer to this post. Any ideas?

What happens when a user has modified a document but has left the document checked out and gone home, then someone discards the check out to continue working with the document. What happens to the modifications if the modifications have been saved
but not chedcked in and modifications that have not been saved and left checked out?
dfrancisHi,
When you discard check out, all changes made are thrown away, and the document reverts to the version that had been originally checked out.
For more information, you can refer to:

Disable auto check-in with SharePoint
Hi all,
I apologize if this isn't in the right place; I couldn't find an obvious location for Adobe / SharePoint integration questions.
Today one of my users complained that Adobe Reader X has suddenly started behaving differently in how it integrates with SharePoint (we're using 2007). When she receives an email with a PDF attached, she opens it in Reader and saves it to SharePoint. She then wants to review the document and possibly make comments, which again should be saved into SharePoint. At the end of the review she'll check the document in.
Today, when she did the initial save, Adobe automatically checked the document into SharePoint. She tried this several times with different documents, and had the same behavior.
Is this a new function? Is there a way to disable it so my user can save the document in SharePoint without checking it in?
Thanks,

The workflow could not check out the list item.
Hi Guys,
I have a workflow enabled on document library and it needs to started manually.
Whenever user starts workflow manually, gets following error:

OutCome: The workflow operation failed because the workflow lookup found no matching item.

Start workflow on Document check In
Workflows initiate the moment I add a document even though it has not been checked in yet. I only want to start the workflow once the document has been checked in. How can I do that?
Hi spupload,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to initiate a workflow when adding a document, and start the workflow after the document has been checked in.
In SharePoint 2013 Designer workflow, it contains the SharePoint 2010 workflow platform, you can use "Wait for Change in Document Check-Out Status"action in SharePoint 2010 workflow platform, and change the status to Check-In.
More information about this action, please refer to the article:
http://info.akgroup.com/blog-0/bid/71286/SharePoint-2010-Workflow-Basics-Actions-Part-2-of-3
In addition, you need to set the workflow run when an item is added in workflow Start Options.

How to disable check in/check out in a document library?
We have a library but would want to use it as regular network folder. Users don't want to see the check in/check out option. Is there a way to disable that? thanks in advance.
If you want to disable both check in/ check out context menu items in the document library then see the following link which describes how to add custom menu items to a document library via a hidden "content editor web part". Add that to your web part page and add the following to the "source editor"
<script language="javascript">
function AddCheckinCheckoutMenuItem(m, ctx, url)
{return;}
</script>
This will override the core.js function which adds these items to the context menu.

Some of the document libraries I am using need to have publishing enabled and some do not. But the query (for most recently updated documents in the site) shouldn't let the user check-out any documents (only see them in read-only mode).
Hi,
Is the query in search? Could you provide a screen shot about it ?
Did users click view library button to check out document? Could you provide more details about it?
Thanks,

Hi there,
Following a migration to SharePoint 2013, the follow options have been disabled (Open and Check out + Manage) (see below). These are critically important functions and make it very hard to make SharePoint a useable interface. Any guidance on how to resolve
these issues is greatly appreciated. This is not a branded website, and there has been no changes made to the standard interface.
Kind regards
Jarrad KoppenI'm not sure what the easiest way is either. First, I would try to create a new site collection with a new library and see if you get the same behavior. If not, then its something in the upgrade process. If it does that also would point
to something being wrong in the way that javascript is being executed.
If it is happening everywhere I suspect you'll have to start tracing javascript using something like IE developer's toolbar to see why the status on those buttons isn't changing when you select a document. I'm not sure what else to suggest.

I need to host a Shared PDF on SharePoint 2010. If it is on SharePoint can only one person comment at a time? I know documents have to be checked out when using SharePoint. I need multiple users to be able to comment in real time and see comments in real time. Is this possible?

File a complaint with them. Verizon will call you to fix the blunder.
But remember it is always up to the customer to insure what they are getting and what it costs. Don't trust the word of a sales person who makes their living on getting that sale. Lies, deceit or false promises will be and have been used by sales people for thousands of years.
Good Luck -
My clients have an Office365 installation with SharePoint 2013.
When I navigate to the site in IE and click on a checked-in document, it opens in Microsoft Word with a message
Server document To modify this document you must check it out
with a Check Out button alongside.
However, if I navigate with Firefox or Chrome and click on the same link, it just downloads the document to the browser's default download location. If I then open the document in Word, there is no
Server document warning and it is entirely writeable and it's also lost its link to the document library.
Is the work-around for this that one cannot use Firefox or Chrome with SharePoint, or is there some setting in these browsers that will bypass the download and load the document directly into Word?
Thanks
EdwardDoes anyone have a better fix for this? We are attempting to launch support for a second browser - Chrome - but because of the issue with Office 2010 on the clients, the protocol handler from Chrome fails to connect the requested document directly
to the MS Office app, but rather downloads the file. IE Tab is not an option because it then defeats the purpose of having Chrome altogether since it simply uses IE8's engine. IE8's performance with large lists on SharePoint 2013 as well as the
HTML5-based functionality is simply dreadful which is the primary driver for an alternative browser.
We are aware installing Office 2013 on a machine fixes it, but that is not an option due to the current licensing.
Hope for Chrome 31? Firefox seems to work fine in our testing, but the organization wants to go Chrome instead of FF. -
Office 2013 vs SharePoint 2010 - Unable to check out documents to SharePoint drafts folder
My company is foisting Office 2013 on us without upgrading SharePoint 2010 Enterprise. One of the issues I have discovered since receiving Office 2013 is that SharePoint no longer provides the option to save checked out documents to my local drafts folder.
This is despite having Office set to save checked-out files to the server drafts location and the Office Document Cache Handler enabled in IE9. Is there a registry setting or something I can change that will re-enable this feature?Hi Nellie,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to re-enable the add-on Office Document Cache Handler in IE9.
We can re-enable the add-on in IE9 using Group Policy:
Launch the Group Policy Editor.
Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Security Features > Add-on Management >
Add-on List.
Set this policy to 'Enabled'.
In the Add-on List, add the CLSID of BHO (Browser Helper Object) (i.e.) {B4F3A835-0E21-4959-BA22-42B3008E02FF} as the ‘Value Name’ and 1 as the 'Value'.
Log out of the machine and log back in again for the setting to take effect.

Filename problems when checking out documents
Hi,Client machines are using Windows NT4 SP6 and Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106CO. Environment is Plumtree 4.5 SP1, Collab Server 2.02.We have an issue whereby when users check out documents with periods in the filename, the default filename for the downloaded file is different from the original.Eg. If a document named test 0.1.docis uploaded, when this file is checked out, Internet Explorer will try and save it at test (0)0.1.doc. This means that users have to either manually change the filename in the Save As dialog box, or rename the file to it's correct name before checking it back in.Is this an issue Plumtree is aware of, and is there a workaround or fix? Thanks.Mun
Further investigation into this problem shows it does not occur when downloading using a straight A link. Eg. Internet Explorer does not change the filename if excutable 0.1.exe is used; only when downloading through Plumtree (checking out files). This is Plumtree Collaboration Server core functionality. Can anyone from Plumtree shed any light on this?Cheers,Mun
