Disable email alerts mountain lion

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and now I am getting "alerts" of Calendar events in my email.  Not only are they unneccesary, I get four separate, identical emails alerts for each event.
How to disable?
thanks

First, you really WANT Journaling, as it allows being able to your disk much more quickly after a crash, loss of power, accidental cable removal, etc...  Without Journaling, the file system needs to run the file system check (fsck) utility against the volume after it is not properly unmounted, and if it is a large drive, the fsck run can take a long (very long) time.
So I guess I should ask why you want to disable this valuable feature.
But if you want to turn it off, then Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility will not do it for you, then you will need to use the 'sudo diskutil disableJournal' from an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal session.  NOTE: 'sudo' and 'diskutil' can be very dangerous if not used correctly.
NOTE 2:  I think Mountain Lion wants the boot disk to be Journaled.

You might be able to set up the SMTP server settings in Mail to authenticate with a password. That may get the email through.
In Mail Preferences, Accounts, select the account.
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) popup menu and select Edit SMTP Server List
Select the Server and then click the Advanced tab at the bottom.
Select Password authentication and add your details.
You might also want to set a custom port (even if it is one of the defaults)
This solution is normally for an email provider that will not let you send outside of your ISP network, which most prevent. They also must support password authentication of the SMTP server.

  • How can I turn off email alerts in Lion server?

I have a 2011 Mini Server.  I don't want to run any of the server software and followed the instructions in the Apple article "How to disable Lion Server".  The problem I'm having is that I keep getting email alerts, mostly the same one saying "The host name of server.local has changed to server.local. Some services may not work correctly until they have been updated to use the new configuration."  Can anyone help me really shut down Lion server?

No worries. Typically you can rename a machine by just changing the name System Preferences -> Sharing. But there is also a command line option to adjust the name, and if you don't use the command line option, the server freaks out and will alert you about the change forever. ie - for servers, you need to use the command I describe below.
The command is called changeip and can be run from command line in Terminal.app. It is for manually chaning the ip address and or name of a machine. It basically has 4 parameters: old ip address, new ip address, old machine name, new machine name.
Basically the command looks like this:
sudo changeip OLDIPADDRESS NEWIPADDRESS OLDNAME NEWNAME
If any value is being kept the same, just repeat the identical information as both the old and new value.
Example 1: Changing the IP address and host name. This would update the machine's ip address to be 192.168.1.2 and its name would be update to my_new_name.
    sudo changeip 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.2 my_old_name my_new_name
Example 2: Keeping the IP address the same but updating the name. This would update the machine's name to my_new_name but would keep the same ip address.
    sudo changeip 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1 my_old_name my_new_name
Most likely you're just wanting to update the name, in which case you should follow the second example. If you run this, be sure to reboot the machine afterwards and test to make sure that any enabled services are running properly.

  • Can't send emails after Mountain Lion update

After I updated from Lion to Mountain Lion, I could receive messages from my service provider's account, but I could not send messages.  Mail Connection Doctor showed the information "Could not connect to SMTP server" for both SMTP servers, and when I try to send a message, I see that each SMTP server now has "(Offline)" after its name.  I can still send from my iPad to the same servers, and also from the service provider's webmail.  I have rebooted everything (Mac, wi-fi, router) to no avail, and I have followed all advice in Support articles such as TS3276.  I have changed absolutely no settings anywhere from the Lion system, and a check of all settings shows that they match the printout I made of the Lion settings.  I do not use iCloud for mail, so that server is disabled in Email Accounts, although the system opens iCloud on port 993 for Contacts, etc.
Below is part of the output from the Doctor, which shows an error "503 wrong state for EHLO command" on ports 25 and 587.  Researching this message didn't really help me, and, as I say above, I have changed no settings between OS versions, so I assume that something must have changed with Mountain Lion.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm getting the same behaviour with my ISP's mail server:

  • HT4484 My email was phished, so I deleted it and changed it completely.  Now all the apps that I downloaded with the old email cannot update because I cannot log into that email.  Mountain Lion is compatible with the new updated iPhoto.  what can I do?

My email address was phished and I had to delete it completely.  That was the one I used to download all my original apps on my computer.  I have since changed to a new address, but since my apps were under the old one, I cannot update them without logging into the old address.  It no longer exists....so how do I fix this?
Some of the apps I don't really care about updating but, I did download the new Mountain Lion and it wants to update my iphots and I can't do it.
Any help will be appreciated!  Thanks!

    Hi joaroa,
When you say you deleted your email and changed it completely, those are actually two different things, and it sounds like you are talking about your Apple ID, not just your email, (because you speak of making purchases with it).
If you changed your Apple ID (preferred, How to change the name you use for your Apple ID), then you would not have another Apple ID and all of your purchases would still be with your only Apple ID, it would just be renamed to your new email address.
If you instead created a new Apple ID (with a different email address) then of course you have two different Apple IDs and the old one still exists and is probably active. Just because you may not use an email address anymore, that doesn't mean an Apple ID of the same name is inactive, Apple IDs aren't deleted.  If you start purchasing Apps with your new Apple ID, it can really cause confusion because, as you see, you need to be logged into the Apple ID that purchased an App to update it. It would be best to stick with one Apple ID for purchases, probably the one you have spent the most money with.  Remember, unless it's an @mac or @me Apple ID you can rename them rather than creating yet another Apple ID.  Since Apple IDs can't be merged or deleted, creating more can be a messy.
If you don't remember what the password is for a particular Apple ID, you can visit iforgot.apple.com where you can reset it, the AppleConnect password.  If the Apple ID is no longer a valid email address, you can use the security question method to reset the password instead.
Unless you have made a lot of purchases with your new Apple ID, I'd recommend moving back into your old one, especially if that has the most or the most expensive apps with it.  If your new Apple ID is the "name/email" you want to use, you could rename the new one to a secondary email, then rename your old Apple ID to your preferred name/email.  Basically, rename the new one to something else which frees up that name (email) to rename your old Apple ID.  Thus your old Apple ID has the new name.  See My Apple ID.  The "Manage your account" link is where you can rename the ID itself.
Sorry about getting long winded here, but it's important to keep as few Apple IDs as possible, at least when it comes to purchases.  If an Apple ID is undesired, rename it rather than creating a new one. It will be much simpler in the long run.
Let us know how it goes.

  • How can I copy the date and time of a received email in Mountain Lion?

I recently installed the new Mountain Lion, however I am having a serious issue with the mail application. I use the mail application to download all of my emails and then I copy each one in to a Filemaker Database. I used to be able to copy the headers (from, to, subject, date, time) but now with the new mail in Mountain Lion it will not let me copy the date and time of the email. This is the most important part for me as I need to be able to track when the email was received once I have pasted it in to the Filemaker program. Anyone know if there us an option so that the date and time can be copied from the email?

I suppose you could copy it from the Raw Source. View>Message>Raw Source

  • How long does it take to receive confirmation email for Mountain Lion

Hi, I received my new Mac Book Pro Retina two days ago, and I'm eligible for an upgrade to Mountain Lion, I filled out the form, and have a reference number, but haven't received a email back with the code to be able to download it from the app store.
Do you think I could just download it from the App Store and claim a refund later?

As an update, I called Apple and they mentioned that in some cases, even though i've been told 24 hours, it could potentially, but be unlikley that it takes 72 hours after signing up on the page for the activation code.
I did express my frustration with this, as the Apple Care person on the phone was able to see that I was 'approved' eg: I bought my mac 2 days ago and serial passed. But was unable to access any code, but mentioned that it was an automated processed and an email will be going out.
Also read one some of the posts here, 'and this is unconfirmed' - is that there was codes given out, and some people were having problems with the codes, and maybe this is the reason why it is taking so slow.
Your guess is as good as mine, but will be patient.
    Regards to all.

  • Error syncing email after mountain lion update

    Looking for a fix....
I updated to Mountain Lion yesterday and now when my iphone syncs (wired or wireless), I get an error that "Itunes could not sync mail accounts to the iphone because an error occurred remapping record identifiers.
I searched and some places said to remove sync on info tab then clear in Isync....but there is no more isync in Mountain lion.  HELP!

I found the solution. Go to your iphone. There will be an option to see that you have notes in my iphone or in icloud. Copy and paste to the notes in icloud and delete away those in iphone after copied.

  • How to disable email alert tone on E71

I've just upgraded the firmware on my E71 and now I'm going through the process of setting everything up again. I've reinstalled Nokia email and it retrieves ok from gmail. However I cannot turn off the email alert tone in the General profile.
If I go into Tones there is no 'Off' or 'Silent' option for the email alert. I'm sure there was with the old firmware. It used to give a brief vibrate but no sound which suited me fine.
I suppose I could select the Silent profile as this does have a 'Off' option for the email alert. It seems a bit of a kludge though. Am I missing something? This is driving me nuts.
    Dougie

I got this option back by restoring the backup.

  • How do I disable FireWire in Mountain Lion?  Where are my Mountain Lion FireWire kexts?

I just installed Mountain Lion and when starting up in verbose mode the output starts printing this in an endless loop:
ERROR: FireWire (OHCI) TI ID 8025 built-in: handleUnrecoverableErrorInt
I have had this error before, and I am aware that my FireWire port is fried.  Ever since 10.5 I have resolved this problem by booting via Safe Mode and removing my firewire kernel extensions:
    sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWire* /Users/karl/Desktop/
This does the trick.  After that, I have no problems with my computer (other than never being able to use FireWire).  I have to repeat this process every time I update or upgrade my OS.  By doing this, I get a few more years out of a late 2007 MacBook Pro at the cost of not having FireWire.  I'm OK with that.
But I just upgraded to Mountain Lion, am back in the startup hang, and I cannot find any FireWire kexts in the Extensions folder whatsoever.  Where are they? Or does anyone know how to get rid of FireWire in Mountain Lion?

    Hi Topher,
Before I saw your post and had a chance to try it, I complicated things by going into Safe Mode and moving some other IO extensions to my Desktop.  Since I couldn't find IOFireWire* related kexts, I moved some other kexts starting with "IO" that I mistakenly thought might be related to FireWire.  I don't recall all of them, but IOStorageFamily, IOPCIFamily, and IODVDFamily were in there.  Naturally this didn't work and I'm facepalming a lot right now.
I figured I could always undo this by booting from my old Snow Leopard DVD, or going into Single User mode, and copying back the extensions from my desktop.  However, now when I want to undo my stupidity, all startup options seem to fail:
Boot to Recovery Disk -> FireWire error loop
Boot to Installation DVD -> Hang at Apple logo
Safe Mode -> panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800064c99b): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1699.32.7/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1 504
Also, once I've gone into Single User mode and run
         /sbin/fsck -y and
         /sbin/mount -uw /
..I don't see /Users.  Thus I cannot find the moved extensions.
Any thoughts on ways to get my extensions back so I can proceed to troubleshoot the FireWire-related ones?

  • Disable Email Alerts in Vibrate Mode?

Hi. Is this possible? I've searched various forums and haven't come up with anything...
I've disabled all my messages alerts:
    > Volume - Silent
    > LED - Off
    > Vibration - Off ... And I also tried Vibration - Custom, In Holster Only
Everything works fine when I have normal ringing enabled - no email or other messages alerts. However if I go to vibrate mode, I get a double vibrate alert for every email, in or out of the holster...
    Can this be turned off?
    Thanks in advance.

You, I assume, have gone into the Sound Profile Options and set custom profiles for each of your email addresses.  That should be available on your Tour.
Although I have a Storm 9530 you should have much the same alert options.  I willl admit it took some small degree of tinkering with the options combinations before I got it to work as I wanted.  I set custom profiles but when I want NO notification either vibrate or or tone, I turn the tone to Silent and LED and Vibration to Off and it works.
Set Ring TonesAlerts>Messages>(email listings) options to set by email address you have established  the Ringtone/Volume, LED, Vibration and Notification options and you still get vibrations although you have set to either off totally or a lower count?
I have customized all four of my email addresses as to ringtone, LED and vibration profiles and can override the ringtone by opting for sounds off except for calls which takes precedence over the ringtone setting.  All other customization works flawlessly.

  • How can I disable emails, alerts, and notifications sent from iCals which I subscribe to?

My wife subscribes to one of my iCal and uses it to know when I have class or am indisposed. I use my school calendar very heavily especially the To dos. The problem occurs when she recieves hundreds of emails generated from my constant updating of my calendar and To dos. We want her to recieve updates but not of the To Dos. How can she opt out of the To do list, the emails, and the constant updating; once daily would be enough.

    What phone?
You would need to disable data on the phone itself.  You wouldn't do it online on your account.
Note also that text messages do not count toward your data allowance.
