Disable embedded closed captions from video Asset?

Hello all,
I have imported a H.264 file from Apple Compressor with embedded closed captions (not hardcoded I believe).
Is it possible to disable them? The automatic formatting of the captions is not suitable, and I would like to use the native Encore subtitle feature.
Please help, anyone who has experienced this before.
Best,
Nicholas

I think you might be right Stan. The video was supplied by a filmmaker, so I don't have any FCP projects.
I found an app called tsMuxer that looks inside video files for different components, and only recognised the video file. That makes me think they really are burned in. Oh well!
I'll post back if I find a different solution for further use.
Thanks again for your help Stan!

  • How to get embedded closed captioned videos to display captions in Acrobat?

I created closed captioned QuickTime videos using Premiere Pro CC. I then place them in an an InDesign document and set the Media parameters to show the little captioning icon (SkinOverPlayCaption). When I export to an EPUB (Fixed Layout), Apple's iBook (Mac OS and iOS) have no trouble presenting the closed captions (**very very sweet**).
**BUT** when I export as a PDF (Interactive),  I get the embedded video with a the little captioning icon on the controller, but when I play the video I can't seem to get the captions to appear (either embedded, floating window, or full screen).
My client's Section 508 compliance officer isn't very happy. Can someone help me? Please?
    Thanks!

Even after updating to v4.4, I still can't get closed captioning to work on Apple TV movies (not Netflix) I tried to press the up arrow button and then hold down the select button but I can only see the chapter list, not the cc menu. Closed captioning is enabled in the settings menu and the movies I rented all feature a cc option. Quite disappointing I would say and a big let down from Apple. This will make me think twice before renting any other movie.

  • How to extract closed captions from flash video player

I would like to extract the closed captions from this video:
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/president-obama-explains-why-health-insur ance-reform-crucial-small-business
(Yes, it's legal, this video is in the public domain)
Is there any way this can be done?

Mystery solved!  As I was writing a long description of everything I've tried I came to a realization:
    1) Neither the CC nor subtitle buttons did anything on a blu-ray player, TV, or computer.
    2) None of the programs I tried were seeing a subtitle or CC track
    3) Therefore the subtitles must be hardcoded into the video
    4) But mpeg streamclip and handbrake both showed only one video track.
    5) Therefore the single video track must contain both versions of the video.
I went back to the mpeg2 I had demuxed with mpeg streamclip and sure enough, it was twice as long as it should be.  I skimmed through it (which I hadn't done yet since I was so caught up with the subtitles) and saw the clean version and then right after, the subtitled version.  The original DVD authors must have made a script so that the buttons would only play whichever half of the video track you chose.
If I had only double-checked the mpeg2 after demuxing it I wouldn't have wasted so many hours of my life!

  • Embedded closed captions not viewable

I have read most of the threads on embedded closed captions in this forum and after experiencing similar problems I have come to the conclusion that embedding captions in QT .mov files is not properly implemented. I could be wrong. I hope someone can show that is the case.
    Steps taken:
    1) created a closed caption track in a 2:40 minute Video as the top level video track (V4 in my case) using the CEA 608 CC1 caption stream. Captions show up in the program window properly enabled.
    2) Exported the entire clip directly from Premier Pro CC 2014  as a Quicktime .mov file with captions "embedded in Output file" (also tried exporting through Media Encoder--same results noted below).
Closed captions DO NOT show up in the resulting .mov file when played in Quicktime Player 10.3 on a Mac running OSX 10.9.5, even with subtitles set to "automatic"
Closed captions DO NOT show up in VLC Media Player 2.1.5 or 2.0.5.
Closed captions DO NOT show up when the .mov file is imported into an iPad Air running IOS 10.1.1 and played in Safari. This is my target destination and is critical.
Closed captions DO show up when the mov file is re-imported into Premier Pro and that clip is active in the preview window.
Closed captions DO show up when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 7 when "Show closed captioning" is active in the "View" menu. Quicktime Player 7 reveals that a "Closed Captions" video track exists as track #3 in the mov file under "Movie Properties".
I have uploaded the .mov file discussed above and made it available for public download if anyone can help me figure out how to get closed captioning to work. It is intended to be played on an iPad from a Self-Guided Tour app under development, which will play it using the native IOS video player when the file thumbnail is clicked. If the IOS Video Player is the same as QT Player 10.3 on a Mac, it defaults to "subtitles automatic". I don't know for certain, however.
Please note that this file, while a draft version, is the property of the California Automobile Museum which reserves all rights to its use including reposting, copying or modifying.

Thanks for the posting on the forums here. I downloaded your file and I looked at it in the following places:
    GENERAL PLAYBACK MAC
    10.8.5 (12F45)
    with QuickTime 10.3
I could see the closed captioning in the player.
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    10.9 (13A603)
    with QuickTime 10.3 (727.1)
I could see the closed captioning in the player -- had to set it under View-> Subtitles-> English CC
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    10.9 updated to 10.9.5 (13F34)
    with QuickTime 10.3 (727.4)
Closed captions are not being displayed, under any setting (choice is Off or AUTO) -- appears to be an update problem.
This is not just a failure of PPRO embedded closed caption MOVs, but also embedded MOVs from other closed caption authoring solutions like Telestream, and Annotation Edit.
I can log a bug on my side, but the problem is not in PPRO -- I'd check with Apple on this.
    with PPRO CC 2014
Closed captioning intact and viewable in the app
    VLC MEDIA PLAYER
It appears from my quick testing with VLC Media Player --  VLC Media Player is not detecting embedded closed captions in files from PPRO, nor from other industry standard closed caption authoring solutions, like from Telesteam, they make MacCaption and Caption Maker. I also checked embedded files from Annotation Edit, another widely used caption authoring solution, and VLC Media Player does not detect embedded closed captioning in those files, either.
I encourage you to look on the side of VLC Media Player for the failure to display closed captions.
    IPAD AIR PLAYBACK
In my testing, I did not test this equipment configuration. If you think you have a problem, please consider logging a bug.
Thanks again for posting here, I hope I answered your questions! If not, let me know, and I'll reply again.

  • Remove closed captions from H.264 file after converting?

I processed a video file in Compressor using the Blu-Ray settings, and included a reference to a closed captions file. I now need to use the file in another application (Adobe Encore), but the closed captions appear to be hard coded in.
Is that correct? Is there anyway to remove closed captions from a H.264 file after it has been converted with Compressor?
Please help   This is for a film festival, and I may not have time to process the video in Compressor again without the closed captions.
    Message was edited by: nicholas.he
Fixed question spelling from 'form' to 'from'.

    From the user manual:
"QuickTime files: Compressor adds the closed caption file as a closed caption track to the QuickTime output file."
The closed caption "track" can be turned on and off.  It is not burned into the screen, as is the CC standard.  Encore should handle the file just fine.  You should be able to tell the DVD to have Closed Captioning turned off by default.  That's all it takes.
Sub-Titles may be burned in to the screen.  If you did sub-titles, yes, you'll have to re-encoded from scratch without them.  When doing sub-titles in an DVD authoring program, you have the ability to enable and disable them, but in Compressor, they're burned in.

  • Extract closed captions from OTA HD broadcast for use with DVD SP?

Hi, I'm out of my league here, trying to do a favor for a deaf friend. He will appear on a national TV show, and I'd like to capture his appearance and (if possible) burn it to DVD.
Of course, being deaf, he needs to see the closed captions.
What I've done so far is buy Elgato's eyeTV Hybrid. I can successfully capture HD broadcasts with their embedded closed captions (wow, is that gorgeous!).
I can use the eyeTV software to recompress the audio and video for DVD SP, but the captions don't end up anywhere that I can tell.
Is there any way to extract the closed captioning information for use with DVD SP?
    Thanks very much.

I don't think FCP will ever have captioning tools, due to it is a specilized area of post production and third party companies have developed captioning software that addresses this area.
I use the only Mac captioning software, (Mac Caption, made by CPC) that runs on the Mac. The cost for the SD captioning version of Mac Caption retail cost $6,995 USD and the HD version is an additional $2000.00 USD. If your an educational institution, then the price is about half the list, (price can be negotiated with the company at the time of purchase.)
As you can see, this is about half the cost of the FCP suite and I really don't think that Apple will ever get into this area. Most production companies rely on captioning services. In our case, we are an educational facility and therefore must comply with ferderal law, so we caption everything we do, thus why we had to purchase our own software.
The software we use, can do what it is that you are seeking, it can read the caption data from a live video image an convert it to a .scc file, that can be then used in DVD authoring or tape production. It can also read the raster area of a 720x 486 video file and also convert the caption information to a .scc file, as well as creating subtitlilng .stl files for DVD's.
It can also do original captioning, as well as add a text track to QT streaming files, which is how you caption QT steraming files. You can even burn captions into the video image of a steaming file.
Again, most production facilities are going to have to rely on a captioning service, but because we have to caption everything, and most captioning services don't caption QT streaming files, this was another reason we had to purchase our own captioning software.

  • Closed captioning for video no longer works for iPhone 4 since iOS 5.0 update. Is there a fix for this?

Closed captioning while video-playing is one of the coolest features of iOS devices. But for my iPhone (and an iPad user elsewhere from the Net), ever since I updated to iOS 5, the closed captioning icon no longer appear amongst the list of icons when you play a video WITH a closed caption capability.
I have played videos with closed captions before prior to iOS updates and been having no problems till I tried with iOS 5.
I tried turning the setting on/off in the Videos Settings, tried deleting and re-adding the video to the phone and also rebooted the phone.
Hoped someone could find a fix for this. The community can try it on iOS 5 and see if it is also an issue for them since I haven't seen but rarely people having this issue i'm having.

My son has a similar problem since updating to the latest software on his iphone 4. He can make calls but the other person can't hear him. Facetime and Skype work fine - so it must be the lower microphone that is the problem. He's had it checked at the Apple store in Chiang Mai but they won't fix it - he has to get it back to the UK for service. It's 2 months over the warranty period but having checked around it seems this problem is widespread and Apple need to sort it fast!
I've updated mine and it's fine - but I'm gonna take out applecare before the warranty runs out as I'm not risking having a £495 phone that I can't use as a phone.
I was thinking of buying one for my wife this Xmas but no way whilst they are having so many problems.
COME ON APPLE - GET THIS FIXED WITH A NEW RELEASE ASAP!

  • No embedded closed captions on AME export

    Hello,
Running Premiere CC 7.2.2 on a Mac Mini 10.9.2.  I noticed that exporting ProRes422 media does not include embedded closed captions when exporting via AME CC.  It does however work when exporting directly from Premiere.  The AME file has no captions at all, while Premiere's export does.  So while this is not a show stopper, it greatly slows down production since Premiere is tied up until the export is complete.  I have checked AME's preset which is identical as in Premiere and can only think that processing the closed captions is not included when the media is sent to the queue.
If no one from Adobe can shed light, I will file a bug report as it most certainly looks like it is.
    Thanks.

    Greetings,
I just submitted a bug report about this issue, as bellow:
    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement:
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Encode XDCAM HD422 clips with embedded closed captions, edited with mcc captions, using AME;
    2. Edit those clips again in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. May be mixed with other clips without closed caption or with mcc closed captions;
    3. Export them again in XDCAM HD422 with embedded closed captions, using AME.
Results: Closed caption track still exists but it's totally blank, void, null
Expected results: Closed caption should be still there. That's the results when exported directly from Adobe Premiere Pro.
The workaround we opted is to insert all mcc captions only for the final export, not giving up on AME's convenience and productivity help. Hope Adobe will fix it soon, for a more fluid workflow. We are looking forward to it.

  • I am having trouble exporting closed captions from premiere cc 2014.

I am having trouble exporting closed captions from premiere cc 2014. I see them in the program monitor but after i export and try to playback in either quicktime or VLC i get to embedded captions. I eve tried the side car file and embedded with compressor and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
I only used compressor because i switched from final cut to adobe. easy fellas!

I have latest QT version, do i need to go back to 7? I have tried VLC also, i usually use that to check CC in mpeg files. I am exporting a QT H.264 for just testing purposes, I need a prores HQ, also this is SD so my sequences are set to 720x486.

  • Captivate 5 freezing issue when trying to add closed captions to video

    Hi There --
I'm trying to add closed captions to a video (.f4v) I inserted as "Slide Video" on a slide in an Adobe Captivate 5 presentation.  I click on the video to select it, go to the properties panel, select "edit video timing" and then click on the closed captions panel to try and add captions and then Captivate completely freezes and locks up so not only can I not add captions to the video, but I have to use Windows task manager to shut it down.
I've seen this process demonstrated in a Lynda.com tutorial, and the instructor didn't seem to have this issue with Captivate 5.
Any thoughts?  Have other users found a work around at all?  I mean, I know I could strip the audio from the video, and then attach it to the slide and do closed captions that way, but it would be way easier (and make a lot more sense) to add it directly to the video, especially since that's what you are supposed to be able to do.
I'm using Captivate 5 on Windows 7.  I also have Captivate 5 on a personal Macintosh and haven't tried yet to see if the issue occurs on that platform as well.  Has anyone else run into this issue?  Sorry for the length -- this is my first forum posting, so I'm trying to provide as much info as possible.

    Hi Dan,
    Welcome to Adobe Captivate Forums.
You can try to add the closed captions to Video after deleting the preferences.
Follow these steps to delete the preferences
    1.  Close Captivate if its launched already
    2. Navigate to C:\Users\<userName>\AppData\Local\Adobe
    3. Locate a folder named "Captivate 5"
    4. Delete the folder
    5. Now Launch Captivate and try your workflow
Let us know if this solved the issue .

  • Embedding closed captions in MPEG

I've seen a few questions on this but still don't understand. I'm working with Premiere Pro CC on a Windows computer. I've been asked by a television broadcaster to submit closed captioned MPEG files for a 30 minute program I'm delivering. The station wants the caption files embedded in MPEG format which I understand Premiere Pro is not able to do. How can I convert the sidecar file and MP4 OR the mov file with embedded captions that I have created in Premiere into the format they require? This is pretty urgent so any CLEAR advice would be greatly appreciated

    Hello there,
I'm sorry this was not replied to sooner. At this time, Premiere Pro embeds closed caption streams (and services) to MOV and MXF files. There's no way right now to embed closed captions to MPEG2, at least with Premiere Pro.
I wish I could give you different news, but there it is.

  • How can I moving Closed Captioning from one stage video to another?

Someone mistakenly included an MP4 video in a Captivate project. The project won't publish a SWF file (Your computer does not have sufficient memory resources to publish your file), and there are too many Closed Caption items on the stage video to retype them all. I'm searching for options as this will only publish with an FLV version of the video.
Doesn't the CC text reside some place beside the "Edit Video Timing" window? XML? SWF? Something? Somewhere?
    Thanks

That's excellent. How can I access what's in the skin? ... I think I may have found the captioning in the Javascript, but the chances of copying it over are pretty slim, I'd say.
Frankly the way Captivate handles closed captioning isn't good enough. This is mandatory for dealing with public universities, and we're having to program around it.

  • "Unknown error" when encoding embedded Closed captioning  in premiere pro cc

I edit for a TV show and i Need closed captioning in my show. When ever i go to export the video and embed the Closed captioning in the video i get a "unknown error" when its almost done encoding. different spots every time. I never have issues when encoding videos with out Closed Captioning. I'm using a custom built 64bit pc. Does any one know how to fix this or an affordable software that can Embed fcc compliant captioning?

    Thanks for the reply --
    Some questions:
Where are the closed caption files coming from?
What software made the closed caption files?
Are you having problems with all the closed caption files you try to use?
Can you share a problem file?

  • Purchased any closed-caption movie/video?

Have you purchased a video or movie that has closed-captions?
7.4 should support material that has it and I am interested to find out what movie or video has them to purchase one and use it as a sample to add captions for my videos (podcast) that are distributed through iTunes.
You can activate this function at the View menu item:
    View/Show Closed Captions

I just purchased an episode of "Bones" since someone just told me iTunes supports closed captions. On TV, the programs are all captioned, but I can't get captions up on either iTunes or QuickTime (yes, I followed all instructions and I have the most recent software updates). Only Quicktime Pro has "show movie properties" and I don't want to pay for Pro just to find out if it's captioned or not.
Did a search on the iTunes store for "closed captions" and "closed captioned" nothing came up. I don't see any CC symbol anywhere, and don't want to spend hours searching for things that are captioned. I want that to be a search feature... look for products that are captioned only (no hearies here).
Guess I'm not going to be watching (or buying) any more stuff from iTunes until they work this out.
