Disable Epson printer monitor to use generic cartridges

I have an Epson XP-950 printer connected to a MacBook (via USB) running OS X 10.6.8. I would like to be able to use generic cartridges with the printer -- so my question is: is it possible to disable the Epson printer monitor?
When I put in a generic cartridge the printer complains and it's unusable. I'm using the latest drivers from the Epson website.

I have never had an issue using cartridges from Ink4Art.
I also have an Epson.  My current Epson cartridges are so cheap, Ink4Art do not carry that model cartridges.  They cannot beat Epson's price.

  • Disable Epson Print Monitor

I have a real headache here!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have a Epson D120 printer connected to an Airport to allow multiple macs to send jobs to the printer. When a job is sent the "epson print monitor" applicaion crashes every single time.
I suspect that the issue is that the print monitor can not detect the epson printer installed on the local machine so it falls over.
How on earth do I disable the "Epson Print Monitor" on a Mac?

I am hoping someone will reply to this question as well. I have a similar situation.
Powerbook G4, 1 G ram, OS 10.5.3. Flawless machine before I installed Leopard. At the moment I installed Leopard things began to go wrong.
Several problems, but chief among them and most frustrating is I can no longer use my Airport Extreme network for printing to my Epson Stylus C120. Have monitored Epson web site for driver updates, none. But reinstalled latest driver anyway. Applecare; no solution. As in prior email print monitor crashes. Even with wired connection I now get an obnoxious print screen that overlays other windows until print job is finished or I manually close it (just another thing to do, and distraction).
Do I need to buy a new printer? Please help. If no solution, would appreciate comments from those who have Airport network and working printer models (what brand and model?)

  • Printing Crystal report using Generic Text output - formating lost

Hi. I have an accounting system using Crystal to generate it's business forms, in particular invoicing as reports. Recently we have installed new printing system that needs generic text to capture and create the business forms (invoices) into a graphic and text. When Crystal sends data to Generic Text Printer, you can view it ok as a preview but it moves text around , bunches it up and formatting is never the same for two documents. I need resolution as the printing software needs fixed text in a specific location within the data file.  Is there a way in Crystal to format fields so they dont move the data and bunch it up. The business forms written in Crystal have sub reports that are supressed if no data is to be printed, but finding text is moving and hard to capture a fixed location in text file. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello,
    Thank you for your responses.
Yes, I'm using a bundled version that came with VS 2005.
I'd love to download this update, but I cannot get there! I don't have an login and password for this site, and I don't know how to get them.
This is all I'd found about this issue in this thread:
    http://www.crystalreportsbook.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=844
"I opened an incident with Business Objects.  They said there is not a way to do what we want to do with the Crystal Reports for .NET assemblies.  They are going to implement a way to create a postscript file and include it in Service Pack 3 of Crystal XI Release 2.  They would not say how the postscript will be created (ie, ExportToDisk or any other method), only that they would include it in CRXI Release 2 SP3 which they intend to release sometime this coming winter. "
"Just an update...this has been fixed in Crystal XI Release 2 Service Pack 3.
I just finished testing, and it now allows you to print to a file without prompting the user.  We are now able to create a postscript file."
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • Disable video card driver and use generic VGA

Is there a way to just use a generic VGA driver for the macbook pro? I'm having problems with my macbook pro regarding display issues and crashing. It works fine in safe mode, which disables the ati video driver. Is there a way to have the macbook pro disable the default video driver and just use a 2d accelerated generic driver?
    Thanks

  • Can't print in Mavericks - use generic PCL driver

I can't print to an HP Color Laserjet 4700 using the 4700 printer driver.  The only way I can print is if I use a generic PCL printer driver, but this is grayscale only.  I'm guessing that with all the issues appearing that we have to wait for new printer drivers..
I tried a generic color PCL printer driver using the followng webapge suggestion:
    http://mentalpagingspace.blogspot.com/2010/01/mac-printing-getting-color-to-pcl. html
But I just get garbage printed out...

Thanks Greg. That's where I was looking, but the menu didn't offer any choices at all for my printer. It just showed a message to the effect I needed to consult the printer manufacturer (HP) to obtain a driver. Of course, HP's site advised me that its printer drivers were all to be obtained via Apple's Software Update.
However, I have just has a win that didn't involve a generic driver. I deleted the printer and then added it again. During this process, it mysteriously located the correct driver for my quite ancient OfficeJet 6110. Sanity reigns once more.

  • Printer server always uses Generic Postscript Driver so cannot print!

I have setup print server in Leopard Server with my 2 x HP 2600n Lasers, I have installed the HP drivers but when I try to add the printer to the pool it always uses the generic postscript driver which the printer will not work with, any suggestions?
    Thanks

The 2600n series uses host-based printing and will not print over LPR or IPP. The host computer will only communicate with the printer over BonJour which won't work across subnets unless you have Wide-Area DNS-SD setup on your network. Leopard's print server only prints to printers over LPR or IPP but can advertise LPR and IPP queues via BonJour.

  • Stop Epson Printer Monitor Pop-Up

    Hi all,
Anyone got a fix for this annoying application pop-up?
Following the thread here yielded no results either: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=7234154
    Thoughts?
    Regards,
    -Robert

Unfortunately, the provided Epson utilities don't offer anything in terms of pop-up control- the controls and options provided are limited to ones which get the printer working. There was nothing also that I saw installed in my login; it seems as if the problem window is an extension of the print driver pulling up an ink status window.
What I'm hoping for is a way to get around a window popping in the foreground, even if this involves going into some registry type settings to do so. I thought I was onto something by insisting the software opens in it's own "Space," but even then, getting diverted to that Space is worse than just getting the pop-up.
Your help, Barney, as well as everyone else's truly is appreciated!

  • Epson Printer Manager coming at Start-Up

Since a few days without any specific action from my end, the Epson Printer Manager is starting up after booting my MacBook Pro or after logging-in. Tried everything to identify the process in in the System/Library/LaunchAgents or ~/LaunchDaemons. Likewise via the "launchctl list" in launchd - but in vain. Can anybody help to identify this process and describe what needs to be done to kill it for good.

I hesitate to post any of this since it's untested for your specific situation. Proceed at your own risk and *make backups before proceeding.*
I just found this possibly related thread which might offer a fix, but it does require being brave enough to edit a file, suggested here by using Pico,Terminal's built in editor. Another editing option follows. But since I don't know why this would have started behaving like this spontaneously, this may not really be the solution for you.
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20090830194413248
With pico, navigate around the page using the arrow keys. The mouse won't do anything. To add a line, add a return at the end of the line after which you wish to add the new line. To delete an unwanted line, delete the contents of the line including the carriage return. The shortcuts at the bottom of the screen with the ^ symbol in front of them are activated using the control key. That is, ^X means "hold down the control key and press x." After you're done you just hold down control and X to exit the editor then follow the prompts to "save modified buffer" (buffer = currently opened file, modified buffer = currently opened file with the changes you made). This may require a reboot for these changes to take effect.
You should be able to navigate to +/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/EPW/EPSON Printer Monitor.app/Contents/Info.plist+ without going through Package Contents.
Without using Terminal/Pico, you might also just try editing it using TextEdit; if this turns out to be a file for which you don't have privileges, open TextEdit with this command:
    sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit
Enter your password which you will not see echoed, and hit enter.
Highlight the file in question and then open it into the TextEdit window with File>Open. Add the lines and save. Be sure to reboot.
Or you might try trashing the .plist mentioned, which may have become corrupted, reboot and see what happens. You might have to restore your preferences (I don't use Epson, so not sure what they might be.) Remember to make a backup copy first. .plist files are usually recreated automatically, but not sure if this one will be, so, again, *make sure you have a backup copy.*
Or, since I don't know if the Printer Monitor is a necessary piece of this program, you might try trashing it entirely (don't empty the Trash in case you need to put it back.) Since, the Permissions may have changed by moving it to the Trash (and this goes for all the backup copies, as well), reboot and run Permissions Repair from Disk Utility, which will restore the proper Permissions if they have changed. Definitely write down the Permissions first for anything for which you make a backup copy. Do this by highlighting the file, then GetInfo CMD-I, look in Sharing and Permissions. That way you won't have to do any Permissions Repair, which takes a long time in 10.5, if they haven't changed.

  • Problem with Latest Epson Printer Driver Update

I installed the Epson printer driver update that came out today, but it made absolutely no difference. My Epson printer is still using a the same old Epson driver plus Gutenprint. There is no other option. I don't get it. What's the point of installing the update if the printer is still stuck with Gutenprint? My printer (Epson Stylus Photo R340) is supported according to Apple's list.

    alansky1 wrote:
Thanks for that tip, John. I found the "Epson SP R340 series" driver by searching for it as you suggested.
    Happy to help Alan.
HOWEVER, I cannot print with this driver. I get the following error message when I try to print:
    Error: Library/Printers/EPSON/InketPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/MacOS/r astertoescpll failed
This seems common with the Epson drivers, there are several posts here with that problem. Some users have had success deleting the printer from Print & Fax Prefs and adding it again using the Epson (non-Gutenprint) driver. Others have had to delete the <hard drive>/Library/Printers/EPSON and /Library/Caches/Epson folders, re-download the update, then re-add the printer.
I would try the first one first since it's the easiest and you already have the update installed. If that doesn't work, the second should.
    Hope this helps.

  • AEBS and Epson Printer Utility

I wonder if anyone knows of any work-arounds for being able to use the Epson printer utility while using Airport Extreme Base Station? Printer does not show up in window when it searches, since it's connected to AEBS, thus cannot use utility that shows ink levels, or cleans out heads, etc! I have to connect it back to desktop (or laptop)to be able to use.

That is expected. See KB 107430, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express: Can't use USB printer utilities while printer sharing.

  • Epson printing out blackish or simply horrible on iMac? Help!!!

I've recently upgraded to a Canon 7d and an 24" imac from windows hoping apple and my epson printer would be faster and easier to get the colors right on but for some reason i've flipped the world over trying to get the color right, wasted ink and over 60 pages of paper but still not able to get the color normal. It's coming out horrible blackish and magenta in LR. In CS4 it's just too much magenta. Please someone help me? Am I at the right place? I thought this would be a breeze. What happened?

You don't mention which model Epson printer you are using; but the symptoms sound suspiciously like a Snow Leopard/Epson Driver problem. In a nutshell, Epson (and others) did not provide updated drivers in time for the Snow Leopard launch. It was a mess, and there are hundreds of posts, both here, and on the Apple forums, by people wrong footed by this cockup. A good place to start is the Apple Snow Leopard/Printing Disccussion at
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1344
I believe Epson has in the last week provided - via Apple Software Updates - some new drivers for some of their older printers. I can't tell you much about these as six weeks ago I put myself outside the loop of frustration with Epson by chucking my lovely R800 and getting a new machine. Best of luck in your quest. I am pretty sure the answer can be found.

Just select Photoshop Manages Color, and the printer driver color options should be disabled.

  • I updated the Epson printer on my iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 and my generic ink cartridge does not work.

On my iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 I updated for my Epson Stylus NX420 and my generic ink cartridges no longer work.  Can I delete the update?

    Can I delete the update?
You might be able to revert back to the drivers you have before you upgraded if you have a backup of your hard drive made just prior to the update.  But I'd try the Reset Printing System first.
If you do have a suitable backup go to the HD/LIbrary/Printers folder
and copy the EPSON folder to your Desktop.
Find the same folder on your boot drive and replace it with the one from the backup.
Also go to the backup's Users/Home/Library/Printers folder and copy the Epson app for your printer to the same folder on the boot drive.
I have an Epson R280 printer.
Finally reboot, repair disk permissions and try again.
The above is what I had to do when I upgraded to Yosemite.

  • Using and Epson printer

I have an Epson R200 which is great - does anyone know how I can select an option (on iMac or the Epson) to print in `black` only. If not, can anyone recomend a printer that only uses `black` - I print more docs thans pics and I can`t afford to keep renewing the colour ink cartridges especially when the docs are just `text` and thus B&W.
I`ve searched absolutley everywhere for an answer to my problem.
PS: I don`t have the original Epson `printer` paperwork anymore.
    Russell (Uk)

just filled all the cartridge spaces with all black ones and that way they`d never run out - possible, yes?
I don't think so, nozzles are not smart. When a color is called for it will go to the designated nozzle. If no color is called for, it will never go to that nozzle. Hence the expression, "nozzlehead". Also, the black catridge is usually larger?
I suspect the overiding factor will be that if one (or more) cartridges is `ink out` then I`ll not be able to print even if only `black` is selected as the print optionI'm not sure, but you can use the printer utility to check how low your ink level in each catridge is so you don't let them run out.

  • Epson printer using airport express connect wired to PC

    Hi,
I have a problem with my epson printer C41 series.
It is connected using USB to Airport express then wired using ethernet cable to my existing router in order to share to 3 computer (2 PC, 1 PowerbookG4).
Firstly, I used bonjour to detect the printer, and it was working perfect unfortunately under my PowerbookG4. So I unplug the powerbook, just want to use airport as printer server. I ran bonjour again, it detect the printer under my airport, but it doesn't work when printing.
Perhaps you could help my problem.
    Thanks in advance.

I have a cable modem (Comcast) connected (WAN) to my
Airport Extreme Base Station. Question: Can I us an
AirPort Express to "join" this network (plug it in in
another room) and use the LAN port to connect an
Ethernet cable to a computer's Ethernet port?
If you "Join an Existing Wireless Network" the ethernet port on the AX is DISABLED. If you set up a WDS network using the AX to extend the range of your AEBS, the ethernet port will be ENABLED.
    Will
the AE LAN port have a local IP address ( i.e.
10.0.1.5) available for a wired Laptop to connect to
the internet (or even attach a non-wireless internet
    web camera)?
Properly configured as a WDS network, the device connected to the AX ethernet port will pull an IP address from the AEBS, just like any other connected device. You can also configure this connected device with a static IP address, outside the range of the dynamic DHCP addresses.
I hope this is not too basic......
