Disable Incessant Update Pop-up?

I updated the last time and ever since Netflix has never been the same. It works great on all my other devices. (360/PC/Wii/PS3/Mac/Macbook even iPhone 4's)
I learned my lesson and sure enough this time HDMI to DVI connector users (like myself) are reporting flickering issues which would render the device unwatchable to me. I do NOT want to update and I do NOT want that **** reminder popping up ever few minutes when I'm listening to music or when I'm browsing for something to watch.
Oh and does anyone know of a way I could revert to the original shipped OS so I can get Netflix to work reliably again?
Thanks.

Apparently there is no way to revert to the good version.
Apparently there is no way to disable the annoying pop-up.

  • Disabling Mavericks Update Pop-Up???

    Our company uses Deep Freeze on Mac machines running 10.6.8, and we will continue to use 10.6.8 (atleast one more year) for various reasons.
    All of our computers have the Apple Software update checker set to "Never" check for updates, yet we are still seeing a pop-up window (seems totally random) asking our employees if they want to "Update to Mavericks".
    Is there any way to disable this pop-up window?

    Firefox has several different warnings... What does the pop-up say?

  • Disable automatic updates for QuickTime 7.3 on Vista

    Is there any way to disable automatic updates in order to do a corporate deployment?
    I've tried playing around with the preference files but no matter what I do it keeps coming up with the update checkbox checked.
    From looking at the posts on this forum it looks like Apple doesn't really care about the free version of QuickTime and that's pretty sad because a lot of people use that to evaluate and then go on to purchase Pro, but I guess you don't pop up on Apple's radar until you pay up. Kind of like MS!

    The easy solution, then, is either a) to boycott anything that uses QuickTime (as I do, because the player is so annoying) or b) you could uninstall the Apple Software Update program in the Control Panel in case it's doing the update nonsense and ignoring the preference inside QuickTime not to update.

  • Disable PackageKit Update Applet

    Dear all,
    I have installed the latest version of oracle linux. The server is accessed by hundrends of students that do their lab exercises. However, I have a problem with the PackageKit Update Applet. Although I can go the System->Preferences->StartUp applications and disable it for my account, I do not know how to do it for all my users. The problem is that the Authentication dialog asking for the root password to update is continuously popping up while the user is logged in with the gnome environment. Is there a way to disable this feature for all accounts or to work around this issue?
    Thank you,
    Nikos

    Apparently PackageKit itself is a system activated daemon called packagekitd, which is managed by gpk-update-icon.
    I seems you can disable it globally by setting System|Preferences|Software Updates to "never".
    Another approach, which I have not tried though, might be following:
    Disable the PackageKit update applet, using the Startup Applications.
    This will create a file named "gpk-update-icon.desktop" containing "X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false".
    Copy your "~/.config/autostart/gpk-update-icon.desktop" to the home directory of other users.
    Or as a very last resort, to remove PackageKit from the system: sudo yum remove PackageKit.

  • Conditionally disabling record updation after query

    Dear members
    I've a single record block and I wanna conditionaly disable records updation after query has fetched data. Problem is that if I disable the record updation in Post-Query trigger then it checks the condition for the very first fetched record and it the condition is true, then Updation is disabled for all the fetched records, even if the next records dont meet the condition. I'm using forms-10g. Can u give a better solution??? thanx.

    you have to use SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY to modify only one record:
    BEGIN
        IF ... <your_condition> THEN
            SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY('YOUR_BLOCK.YOUR_ITEM1', UPDATE_ALLOWED, PROPERTY_FALSE);
        ELSE
            SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY('YOUR_BLOCK.YOUR_ITEM1', UPDATE_ALLOWED, PROPERTY_TRUE);
        END IF;
    END;

  • Smart way to auto update pop-up menu in nav bar?

    Smart way to keep updating pop-up menu in Nav bar ?
    I created a template in DW 8. It is used to generate many
    other pages for the site. only the page content region is editable.
    There is a nav bar in the template. Some buttons of the nav bar
    display pop-up menu when MouseOver . Those pop-up menu need to be
    changed from time to time. What is the best way to automatically
    update the pop-up menu in those templated-generated files, using
    template (I tried to define the nav bar as editable region,
    modified the pop-ups and saved the template. I got a lots of
    unexpected problems, DW8 even crashed), using libray items or
    something else? I am a relatively new DW developer. Much appreciate
    if someone could help.

    If the navigation is in a non-editable region of the
    template, then changes
    to it will propagate automatically to all child pages - are
    you not seeing
    that happen?
    > I tried to define the nav bar as editable region
    You wouldn't usually want to do that.
    > I got a lots of unexpected problems, DW8 even
    > crashed
    You must have made other errors. Doing something like this
    would surely not
    crash DW.
    The only problem with having the navigation in the
    non-editable region of
    the template is that a change to it will touch *every* file
    in the site,
    each of which must then be uploaded again. To solve this
    problem you can
    use server-side includes for the navigation. Then you would
    make your
    change to the include file, upload it, and all pages would
    reflect that
    change.

    I have an older mac and it wants me to update to itunes 10 but my mac is too old and I cant figure out how to disable the update so I can use the store.

    If Software Update is offering the update then it would be compatible with your model.  Unfortunately, you haven't provided us with any information on your hardware that would enable us to determine if it really is too old.
    If you really wish to disable the update alert then the next time Software Update opens, select the update in the list then select "Ignore update" from SU's Update menu.

  • Disable auto-updates/Adobe Application Manager

    there is no forum for this - I use Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 non-CC on macbook pro running 10.8.5 or 10.9.2. I would like to not have AAM search for updates in the background, but initiate the **search** for updates manually. The reason is that I live a bit off the grid and pay quite a lot per minute, and AAM kept the internet connection open the whole night, even though the browser said it was closed.
    I only found instructions for CS5:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/disable-auto-updates-application-manager.html
    does this work for CS6 the same way? I am by no means a system admin but I can replace this AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat file. (and keep the original else where)
    thanks.
    edit: why on earth does adobe insist on displaying my real name in a public forum, when it even asks me to make a screen name first. There is no forum for this either, I guess.

  • Ipad disabled after updating to ios 8

    I updated my ipad 2 to ios 8 and it asked for a password, I never had a lock on this device, I guessed the same one I have on my iPhone but that didn't work, now it is completely disabled.   I don't have iTunes and never plugged this iPad into a computer.
    Everything is pointing now to losing all my data, but I cannot!! there are pictures of my best friend that passed away in January, I cannot lose those!  I see lots of people are having this problem  PLEASE help me get my pictures. They are very dear to me.

    MeganTD,
    I completely understand how you feel.  This has happened to me as well when I updated to IOS 8 when it first came out and now I can't get into my Ipad.  The difference is that I actually had a passcode on it and just typed it in just like the million other times I did and it says that the passcode was "wrong."  I thought it was just a mistake so I did it again and it said it was "wrong again, please try in 15 minutes."  This went on for about a day and when I tried to login again with the passcode it completely locked me out to where it says to "connect to itunes" which I did but the Ipad doesn't show up unless I put it into recovery mode, which doesn't help either because I don't want to restore my Ipad until I back it up first.
    I even took it to the apple store to the genius bar and explained my situation and they couldn't even help me, saying that unless you have a backup on your computer there is no way to recover your data on your ipad before restoring it.  I thought that was completely ridiculous that it wasn't my fault that the Ipad is disabled after updating to IOS 8 and that there is absolutely NO WAY of recovering your data.  I even asked if there was 3rd party software that could backup the ipad before recovering and they couldn't give me that information either.
    I have been looking all around the internet for a solution but to no avail.  I hope there is some information out there that can help us because there has to be SOME WAY that you can get into your ipad and backup without having to rely just on itunes and icloud.

    Launch the App Store on your iMac. Then click Updates from the menu top of the App Store window.

  • Disabling auto-update doesn't work

    I need to stop at Firefox 14 for now, and need to prevent auto-updates.
    In Firefox 14.0.1 when I disable auto-update by setting 'never check for updates', and/or use about:config to clear 'app.update.url', both settings are ignored. When I close and re-open Firefox, auto-update is again enabled, and the update URL is again set.
    Recommendations?

    As it turns out, it's not a matter of 'preferences not being saved'.
    It's Firefox spontaneously changing my preferences at start-time.
    I've been testing; here's what i discover.
    1. I install FF14, start it the first time, and disable auto-update (via Tools/Options/Advanced)
    At this point - prefs.js in my profile now starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    2. now I exit FF.
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    3. i restart FF (#1)
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    4. i close FF
    prefs.js in my profile STILL starts with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    5. I restart FF (#2)
    NOW prefs.js has dropped those 2 initial lines, and starts with user_pref("app.update.lastUpdateTime.addon-........etc
    Firefox is spontaneously changing my prefs.js.
    Before this series of tests I adjusted the prefs.js in all other profiles in this XPSP3 machine to start with
    user_pref("app.update.auto", false);
    user_pref("app.update.enabled", false);
    This is obnoxious.
    I expect better from Mozilla.

  • Disable live updating on iTunes

    How does one go about disabling live updating in iTunes. I do not use smart playlists and am trying to optimize the environment that is in iTunes, since my computer runs very slowly when iTunes is running.
    I have an iMac G4 (isight I believe). It has a 340Gb HD (with 180Gb free) and 1.5Gb of memory. Yes this is an older Mac, and since upgrading to 9.1, iTunes runs significantly slower than the 8.x version I was using. When I try to switch songs the little colorwheel is displayed for up to 10 seconds before anything happens. Also, when playing video (TV shows, movies), the video is very jumpy.
    The library I have is on an external RAID drive (LaCie 4Big Quadra) and the size of the library is about 975Gb. I do have a significant amount of playlists (not smart playlists, just regular ones) for most of the albums. I also have about a hundred 'custom' playlists (from different albums same or different composer).
    I have been informed that the number of playlists I have is slowing iTunes down.
    I don't like the other methods of displaying the albums, thus I use playlists to keep track of the albums I have on my iMac.
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    How does one go about disabling live updating in iTunes. I do not use smart playlists
    Select a smart playlist
    File > Edit Smart Playlist
    Note that iTunes automatically includes some smart playlists already, so you have some even if you didn't make them. Top rated, Recently Added, etc.

    Newer versions of anything include newer features, which often means slower. I was happy with 7.5 and have stuck with it because I don't need bells and whistles.
    Also, when playing video (TV shows, movies), the video is very jumpy.
    That's because your computer is old and slow compared to the demands of modern video formats. There's a few tweaks you can try but frankly they likely won't do much and might not be easy or possible in your computer (like buying a faster video card).

    One thing about iTunes is that when you do pretty much anything it re-writes the library file. Stopping live updating will help. Still, the bigger the library file, the longer it takes to load, unload, and write. The more playlists you have, the more items you have, the longer it takes.
    I have been informed that the number of playlists I have is slowing iTunes down.
    yes.
    I don't like the other methods of displaying the albums, thus I use playlists to keep track of the albums I have on my iMac.
    So, it's your decision, and you have to decide if it's worth the slow-down trade-off.

  • Disable facebook update when editing photos

    hi,
    Is there a way to disable automatic updates of photos which are part of a facebook album?
    The thing is, when I edit photographs to be used for other purposes, I find it automatically updates the image contained in the FB album as well (well, the facebook album within iPhoto seems to only contain links to the actual images in iPhoto) . Whilst I can see that that would make sense occasionally, and it sometimes is quite nice to get friends' comments on year old photographs, by and large I find it rather annoying. Duplicating images would be an option, but then I'd quite like to keep duplicates to a minimum.
    Is there a way to control the trigger-happy interaction between Fb and iPhoto a bit more?

    To completely disable check for updates (remove the UI from the product), you should be able to do:

    You can also customize the installation by removing the jar file oracle.ide.webupdate.jar from the ide/extensions directory, which has the safe effect.
