Disable integrated isight

is there a way to disable the isight camera through EFI or by removing its driver. i looked at /system/library/extensions and i couldn't find apple_isight.kext when it was there previously (from panther release). we don't want the camera in our classrooms.
it would be nice to have an admin setting for it rather than removing it manually. somebody apparently wrote an automator script to take snapshots from an isight in his macbook, and posted the pictures taken of an apple repair facility on the net. we don't want our students to be able to do this (well, we don't want them to use the isight on their macbooks). i am resisting the removal of the cameras from our macbooks, but that would then be the school's decision ultimately unless apple comes up with a fix.

sorry, it's been a while since i've been here.
no, i do not want the isight integrated because there are no parental controls to prohibit its use. saw somebody from the dorm doing something else with it. i mean, we have cameras all over the place now but i do not like the notion of a camera right in front of my face all the time.
i would agree that students should not need this unless it is an absolute necessity. when video-conferencing in the classroom becomes possible, then integrate the camera. otherwise, it's become a curiousity.
i have since locked my computer so that nobody can record anything hideous on my laptop.
thanks for all the responses btw.

I am not having any trouble, but I do not have a built-in iSight.
The first thing to use on any iSight problem is http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
The reset suggested there often restores proper iSight functioning.
We will watch for your status update.

  • Integral iSight not compatible with iMovie

Just found this article in the Apple Knowledge Base. It says that the integral iSight in the new iMac G5 will not work with iMovie. So much for having a $150 iSight camera built into your iMac as it is an iSight in name only, not functionality.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302749

You can capture from the built-in iSight under the following conditions:
    1. Plug-in a separate FW deck/cam, and power it up such that it's output is recognized and displayed in iMovie.
    2. Power-off the deck/cam, or just unplug it.
Very shortly thereafter, iMovie should display the output from the built-in iSight, and iSight's green activity light should come on.
I found this out just today - quite by chance. Be a little careful, it's a temporary session. As soon as you go to your clips or timeline, the built-in iSight link is gone, until you repeat steps 1 and 2 above again.

  • Z77a g43 | i5 2500k | Disable integrated graphics

As the title states how do I disable integrated graphics from the bios on my z77a g43 motherboard running a 2500k. Finally got a dedicated video card Radeon HD 7870

Don't want it warming up the CPU (Overclocker a few degrees can make a difference ) and to get optimal performance out of my Radeon 7870.
And yeah the Radeon is already up and running.
So I'm guessing there's no way of completely disabling it from bios?

  • GX70 Disable integrated graphics?

Did some googling for ways to disable the 8650 on board graphics and some sources pointed towards BIOS, I had a look around in there and didn't see any such option.
Is there a way to turn off integrated graphics, I use my laptop plugged in 99% of the time so power consumption isn't an issue. I am applying for a beta and they want my dxdiag uploaded, would rather my dxidiag show my dedicated graphics however it is showing the integrated one instead.
    Any solutions I am missing?
    Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to confirm which graphics is being used by which application?
I know you can configure switchable graphics, but is there any way to confirm that the didicated GPU is being used by a game?
you can see it by power button if it's blue then it's using intel one if it's orange it's using nvidia one blue can be white as well depending on laptop.

  • How to disable iNTEGRATED graphics On the Y40? in bios

i want to fully disable the integrated graphics through bios. in the switchable graphics and uma, either use both or integrated basicly. how do i change it so its dedicated instead of integrated?

Good luck, but i dont recommend third party softwares to control the hardware of a laptop (especially the ones that have no reviews)
Chrome should work fine on an integrated chip, heck I could play games on the integrated chip back in 2006. I think your issue may be loss of performance in Battery mode.

    hi,
i have a problem installing an ASUS Geforce4 Ti 4200 AGP card into MSI K7N2G-L board, as my pc refused to boot with AGP card onboard. Is there any way of disabling the integrated graphics, as I did't find the option in bios.

    hi
to disable onboard gfx just install an agp card.
it is possible you did something wrong during the installation like not insert the agp card correctly or a cable got loose during the install or it could also be a hardware failure.
can you post the poweroutput on the .3v 5v and 12v rails on the psu.
    check for loose cables.
uninstall ALL gfx drivers before you change gfx card.
    bye

    hey halfman,

as i do not have this particular unit with me, i can't say for certain but usually this feature is to be done via the BIOS.

  • Disable integrated graphics on HP Envy dv6-7200ea

Hello. My laptop comes with two graphics. The intel hd 4000, and the nvidia geforce gt630m. I have searched for an option in the BIOS to disable the integrated graphics (intel hd 4000) with no success. I've set the global settings in the nvidia control panel to use the nvidia graphics card, but never-the-less, programs like PC Benchmark, emulators, games, editing software all use the intel graphics card. All intel and nvidia drivers are up to date. Any help on this matter?

I understand that you do not see an option in the bios to disable the integrated graphics.  This is not always an available option.  Sometimes a bios update will provide that option.  You can check the driver and software page for you notebook to check for a bios update or you can run HP Support Assistant  to help locate and resolve issues.

A  bios update does have the potential to cause damage, so you may wish to consider contacting HP support for assistance with that process.

  • How to Disable integrated audio interface?

If you want to shut off the puny internal speaker, leaving a jackplug in the rear analogue audio out socket, or the front headphone socket should do it. This works on a pre-dual-core G5, anyway.
If this isn't what you meant, you could try to explain why you need to disable the 'integrated audio'. Presumably you are not recording on the G5, just using the CueMix Console™ software...

  • Clean way to disable integrated webcam, but not USB webcam?

In an old (and now closed) thread, two solutions for disabling webcams were discussed:
    1. unload the matching module
    2. remove permissions of /dev/video0
The first has the disadvantage of disabling all webcams (not just the internal one), the second one has the disadvantage of being called "hacky" and - this is why I'm starting this new thread - isn't permanent as I now discovered.
So has anyone an idea how to disable the internal webcam permanently without disabling ones attached by USB?
    (No, I don't want to use a hammer... ;-) )
    PS:
Sorry for the previous "necrobumping"; I thought it was appropriate because of the rule "If you have a version-agnostic or corresponding solution, necrobumping can be appropriate."

can't you disable it in the bios?

It seems to me that you have found a software feature (limit?) of Skype for Mac, Mark.
This Skype Help page states, in part, that Skype's "High Quality Video will transmit video images at 640x480 resolution at up to 30 frames per second."
      http://tinyurl.com/y89568y
640 x 480 is normal (4x3) screen format, not a widescreen one. Moreover, according to this Skype Help page:
      http://tinyurl.com/yz8nezk
Skype's "Standard Video" offers a resolution of up to 320X240 pixels (QVGA) at 15 frames per second (fps). 320x240 is also a normal (4x3) screen format.
Based on this info directly from Skype, although your preview monitor image on your Mac may be showing your webcam's full widescreen capability, it appears that neither video quality level in Skype for Mac can transmit widescreen images to your contacts.
IF you have other Skype-specific questions, you may get better and faster help from Skype Help

  • MSI Z77 MPower - Disabled integrated video, but it keeps coming back

I have a brand new Z77 MPower board paired with an i7 3770K CPU.  I am running the most recent BIOS.  In BIOS, I have "Virtu Technology" set to "Disabled" and "Initiate Graphic Adapter" is set to "PEG".  As I understand it, this should cause my computer to only use the discrete card (which is an XFX HD 7870, by the way).  This is all good and fine, and it generally works as it's supposed to.
However, every once in a while (maybe every 3rd or 4th boot into Windows), something strange happens:  the 3770K's onboard video (Intel HD 4000) shows up in device manager as "Standard VGA adapter", and Windows Update wants to install an updated driver for Intel HD 4000.  If I install the driver, I get a black screen, and I cannot get Windows to properly boot unless I boot into Safe Mode and remove the Intel driver with a utility like Driver Sweeper or Display Driver Remover.  I have the "Standard VGA Adapter" disabled in Device Manager, but Windows Update still wants to update the driver.  It is very annoying, and I've never had a board that didn't respect the BIOS setting to disable onboard video.  What is going on here?  Is there something that I'm overlooking in the BIOS?
I suppose that I could deal with it if the stupid Intel driver didn't cause my system to lock up.  I guess an acceptable workaround would be to find a working driver for that, but what I really want is for the onboard video to stop showing up in Device Manager.  Any ideas?

Never heard of a Z77 MPower reporting false temps. Could be cooler is somehow wedged on the cpu and is not fully in contact with the heatspreader. Try reseating it.
Fast reply for a Saturday morning, thanks!
I did Google it and couldn't find anyone else reporting bad temperatures, so I'm going to assume maybe I've made a mistake. (none of us are above failure!) Been talking to some other computer builder friends on Facebook and everyone is pretty much in agreement that I should reseat the heatsink, I'm also going to use the Zalman paste, though.
Could I also bother you and ask if you know if less USB ports are enabled since I'm using a 2nd gen Intel Core CPU and not a 3rd gen? I know the PCI-E lanes are less because of it, but I'm not sure if USB would be included or not, going to try and find that in the manual, hopefully it will say something.
As of right now though, it looks like only 4 total USB ports are available, 2x USB 3.0 ports on the back, and the 2 front USB 2.0 ports I plugged into the high powered header on the bottom of the board. The 2 gaming port USB 2.0 ports don't even work. =/

  • Disabled integrated graphics in Z50-70

    Hello there,
i flashed an unlocked BIOS (v26) to my z50 70 and disabled the igpu due to problems with optimus. As everyone else who did it, I ended up with a black screen. Could you please give me the keys I have to press to load default values in bios? Or guide me how exactly to kill my battery for a CMOS reset. Tried holding the power button for two minutes with ac disconnected, the bios battery can't be removed
    Thanks in advance!

It appears that is not the way to do it. Selecting the default graphic adapter "discrete adapter" I believe is what I had done in my T520. I am using a Z70-80 right now. With UFIE bios I don't mess with default setting unless it safe change parameter. Nvidia requires drivers to activate as well I am sure. The operating system you're using may be contributing to the problem and you have not specified your environment. It could be a bug in that bios which sounds like a non approved version. If that is the case there is no support.
