Disable itunes radio - Data charges out of control

My son discovered the new iTunes radio on iOS 7.  Great new music.  Unfortunately when he is at school or out and about he is on cellular data.  And in just a few weeks he is well over 2GB of data.  I tried disabling this in Settings - Restrictions but can not find a way to turn it off.
I don't want to take away his phone, but I will have to, if I can't control the cost that the carrier is extorting for data usage.
Sad Dad

Sorry mistercoffee1, I didn't mean to come across as unappreciative.  You are likely right as well that "A disciplined child who is respectful of his parent's wishes won't have to."  But if kids were disciplined and respectful 100% of the time, then we wouldn't need the restrictions in the first place.  We could just tell the 15 year boy to avoid temptation and then be disappointed when he fails, and pay the carrier for his mistakes and take away his communications device.  Or we could remove the temptation (phone altogether or enable restrictions), avoid the inevitable costs and disappointment until such time they mature to the point of full accountability and responsibility.  I do like knowing where he is and having the ability for either of us to contact one another.  Which means I really would like to have data enabled on the phone (FindMyFriends as a condition of having the phone, and locating a lost phones) but not pay rediculous rates for data to a carrier.  4 of my 5 iPhones are unlimited grandfathered devices, his is not and no options to do so.

  • How do I Disable iTunes Radio

I have a 6yr old and a 4yr old and I don't want them listening to iTunes Radio as it can get any type of music. I want to disable iTunes Radio all together and only allow them to listen to music I place on their iPad mini's. The only options within apple in relation to music seem to be allowing explicit music or not. Apple needs to remember parental restrictions when they make all these new features. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I've been racking my brain at this, too!!! However, I found a solution!!! My dilemma is that my child has an iPad mini in which I've been able to: download appropriate apps, music, restrict websites, install safe web browsers, etc. All was well until the latest update last year with the introduction of "iTunes Radio." After going through the trouble of searching online for answers; "more" mysteriously disappeared  from the music app so I cannot hide the "iTunes Radio;" and "Reset All Settings," I found I wasted my time! Instead, go to the "Settings" app and on the left side scroll down and select "iTunes and App Store" AND be sure that you or whoever's Apple ID is on your child's device is SIGNED OUT. Proceed to the "Music" app and you'll find that you NO LONGER have access to "iTunes Radio" because you are NOT signed in! I hope this helps many! ;-)
APPLE: Shutting off "EXPLICIT" under "Music and Podcasts" does not cut it if you can still listen to filth... There should be a disable feature for iTunes Radio.

  • How can I restrict or disable iTunes Radio?

I am a social studies middle school teacher. I use iPads on a daily basis to deliver instruction to my students. The iOS 7 update includes iTunes Radio in the Music app. Unfortunately, I am unable to restrict or disable iTunes Radio from my students.
It is ironic that I can restrict Safari and the camera from my students, but they have unfettered access to streaming radio.
Has anyone found a solution to this issue?
    Thank you!

  • Can I disable iTunes Radio?

Is there any way to completely restrict access to iTunes Radio on iOS 7? I turned off Account changes in Restrictions but iTunes Radio still allows my child to sign in with an Apple ID. In fact, it even allows him to create a new Apple ID. With iOS 6, there was no way to sign into an Apple ID account if Account changes were restricted.
Is there any way to contact Apple and request this to be fixed in an upcoming update?

TO disable the itunes radio on my kids devices i had to go
    1. Sign out of the Itunes&App store in Settings
    2. Select Dont Allow Changes for Accounts (Settings, General, Restriction, Accounts)
It seems to have solved the problem for now.  Good luck

  • Disable iTunes Radio IOS7 ?

    Hi,
I just updated to IOS7 and it seems you cannot disable or restrict iTunes Radio? Does anyone know if this can be done or am I stuck with it?
    Thank you for your help.

You can always move it to the More Tab and replace it with one of the other options.
Tap More, tap Edit, drag the icon in the group of highlighted icons (red on my phone)  that you want to replace Radio with down to the navigation bar and drop it on top of the Radio icon.  The icons on the nav bar are greyd out in the listing at the top of the page.  Once you have the icons you want on the navigation bar you can re-order them however you want.  When you are done. tap Done and you won't see the Radio icon unless you tap More on the nav bar.
Thank you!!  I was using the Edit feature but trying to move the Radio icon off the bar, rather than trying to drop another icon on top of it....your solution worked for what I needed..... I'm a happy camper now!

  • I see I am not alone... Data usage out of control!

So it seems unlike what customer service told me last week I am NOT the only one experiencing this problem!!!!!  I have have a verizon cell phone for OVER 17 years and although there have been many frustrations over those years I have never made me angry like this one!  We have 4 iPhones in out home and have had the same situation with the same users for over 4 years! In those 4 years I have NEVER gotten a warning for overage data charges even once we all lost out unlimited data almost a year ago with new phone purchases.  In February we changed one phone from a 5s to a 6. This forced us to have to go to a shared data plan. The Verizon rep at our local store told me that as a family we had NEVER EXCEEDED 7GB of data in a given month in over a years time (and probably longer but he couldn't see back that far). And that we only got that close 1x (which happen to be when we were on vacation) never other month in the time he checked we were well below 6 GB.  I decide on the 8GB plan to be safe and not worry about messages to upgrade plan... For the past 2 months since we had to switch the plan... We have had to increase the plan... 1x last month and this month about 5 days since the 7th day of the cycle I have been having to upgrade!!!!  I find this extremely suspicious!!!!!  We all hontonthe same schools and work place and live in the same house doing the same jobs we did before we had to switch the plan!  The only variable is the change in the plan!!!!  I know there is something not right going on and said as much to the representative on the 45 min call we had lst week. She told me I was crazy!  I see that I am not alone! Others have the same complaint!  I have now added over 25.00 to the plan and have 5days left and got another 90# warning!  It is starting to sound very fishy to me!  Before a rep writes to tell me to check to be sure we are all using wifi when on wifi and to check our utilization, etc..: I have don't it all! And will reiterate we are all using our phones and data in the exact same way as we did before the plan changed!!!! The only variable is the plan change!!!!
Might be time to look for a new carrier. . How incredibly disappointing!  Obviously this is a VERIZON issue or I would be the only one having it!  Verizon fix it!  Someone is another chat suggested contacting the FTC... Maybe that is an avenue to seek... We the consumer need recourse!  Or the BBB!
Something needs to be set right!  I would like to hear what verizon is doing to address this issue that is angering me and many other customers!!!!

Jrsquared I want to look into this further. When you did your plan changes that you are mentioning, did you do them on demand? Or did you backdate (or future date) these plan changes? The reason I ask is an on demand plan change, changes the plan right then and there. Which means the amount you pay for your new plan is pro-rated, but so is the amount of data available for you to use. For example if you changed from the 6GB to the 8GB plan in the middle of your bill cycle, you would only be paying for half the 8GB plan... but you would also only have 4GB available to use until the beginning of your next bill cycle.

  • HT1349 iTunes radio frequently cuts out in the middle of a song and rebuffers--a lot! This is really annoying.

I have a dual platform system and when I use iTunes on the PC side, it frequently craps out. It suffers from constant dropout and needs to rebuffer. I went on here to create a post about it and found the choice of communities disappointing. Furthermore, the MAc side also suffers from this issue. Anyone have any ideas as to why this is always happening?

    Hey Ariddel,
I don't have the issue, but I am curious what's different between you and me. If you use nslookup in Command Prompt on Windows or use Network Utility on OS X to lookup pri.kts-af.net - what does it say?
Is it a particular genre or station that you're testing, or did you try several?
Could you share one of the streams you listen to and see this with that so I can test?
Does it happen at all hours, or are there only certain hours you listen to the radio in iTunes?
I know I mostly listen in the office - maybe it only happens when everyone is at work and listening to the radio?
Thanks for helping me with my curiosity problem.

  • Is there a way to play a slideshow that continuosly loops while also have itunes radio also stay on?

We are trying to run a slideshow to show off our work on the tv we have in our offices, but we would also like to have itunes Radio play and for some reason, the itunes Radio keeps shutting off after a certain amount of time.  Is there a way to have that continuously playing on the apple tv while also having the slideshow loop?

iTunes radio will time out after 2 hours if there is no user interaction.

  • Disable or restrict itunes radio?!?!?!

does anyone know how to disable or restrict iTunes radio? I have children and have restrictions set but there are a lot of songs that aren't "explicit" that i still don't want my children listening to...help!

I don't see anything to do so.   It won't work without wifi on, if that helps.
You will have to supervise and except that you can't put your kids in a bubble.   Educate, educate!
I was mortified to find out both my boys had heard the f-word from older kids on the school bus at kindergarten age.
No matter how careful you are, at some point they have to choose for themselves.
You have to program them to know, "this is not something I am allowed to listen to, watch or say, and I won't do it."
I am the parent of two teen boys, been there, done that.   My ex-husband and I had slightly different ideas on handling
the media in the house.   He just put locks on everything he thought needed it.  That didn't help and annoyed me
( locked me out of things too).
But the worse part is he learned nothing about what attracted the kids.   Better to know what they are drawn to so you can talk about any dangers involved.  I sat with my kids, if I didn't like it, it went away and went on the 'NO' list.   (Get caught watching a TV show on the banned list, you lose all TV.)   I did not lock out, passcode, parental control anything.
They are now 17 and 19 and I am glad to see them making good choices for themselves.
Parenting doesn't get easier as they grow.   Love them, teach them and keep the lines of communication open.

  • How do I disable apple iTunes radio?  If not available when will it be available.

How do I disable iTunes apple radio?  My autistic so is fixated on the album covers and get violent when we won't let him have it or see us with it.  If you cannot disable it now, then when will this be available.

I did find a way to disable the iTunes radio.  Go to settings and click on the iTunes & App Store.  Then click on the your apple ID and sign out.  This will obviously prevent you from purchasing anything through the apple store.  So you can sign in again when you need to make a purchase.

  • Itunes radio is asking to use cellular data?

I was able to use my itune radio with no issues now its saying that the Network Unavailable and to use cellular data. I have unlimited data. Will I get charge for data if I click on the button?

It's giving you a warning that it's going to use cellular data. For you it means nothing because you have unlimited data. Someone on tiered data plan it would be nice to know if your data allotment is being used. iPhones have been notorious for using cellular data without warning. Seems like they are finally changing that. If it's saying "Network Unavailable" it means you're wi-fi is not in range or not working or your phone simply isn't connecting to it.

  • Are there time limits onstreaming Itunes radio? If so, can it be disabled?

Are there time limits onstreaming Itunes radio? If so, can it be disabled?

Unfortunately the Time Capsule is missing the circuitry that the AirPort Express has that processes the AirTunes stream to get it out to your amp. So, whether the Time Capsule or your iMac is hosting the iTunes Library, in order for your amp to be able to use it, you will need the Express.

  • HT201272 Before backing up my old iphone4 I traded it in for an iphone5. All of the apps I purchased I had no problem retrieving from itunes with no charge but I can't download music that I have already paid for that was not backed up w/out paying again.

Before backing up my old iphone4 I traded it in for an iphone5. All of the apps I purchased had no problem downloading to my new phone from itunes with no charge, but I can't download music that I have already paid for that was not backed up w/out paying again. How can I get these songs to my new phone without having to buy them again?

Whether you can re-download music depends upon what country that you are in (and whether it remains in the store). If you don't have a Music section in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone for re-downloading it, then do you not have you library on your computer's iTunes or on your backup of your downloads ? If not then you could try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a re-download
