Disable Jeffrey Friedl's Flickr Plugin before installing LR3

If you're using Jeffrey Friedl's Flickr plugin in LR2, save yourself some grief and disable it before installing LR3. If you don't, LR3 won't start up properly and it will give you a very misleading message that it can't open your converted LR2 catalog. It makes you think that something went wrong converting the LR2 catalog, but it really didn't. I finally figured this out by deleting my converted LR2 catalog, then starting LR3 and telling it to create a new catalog instead of converting my LR2 catalog. It did this, and then gave me the true error message that the flickr plugin was not compatible with LR3 and it automatically disabled it. At this point, I was able to select my LR2 catalog to open (from within LR3) and it went through the conversion process again and successfully opened the catalog. Jeffrey currently only has a beta version of his LR3 compatible flickr plugin. You can find it on his blog.http://regex.info/blog/2010-06-08/1539

kirbinster, sounds like you might also have other issues with your installation. I didn't have the issue with the help files. So, I'm not sure. You might try uninstalling LR3 and starting over, assuming you still have your LR2 catalog intact. Before you re-install, go into the plugin manager in LR2 and disable the Flickr plugin.

  • Flickr plugin broken

As with the Facebook plugin, and discussion here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4854227  the flickr plugin (and anything that writes to the temporary area) are broken on Windows 7, at least since the latest Windows update.  The plugin crashes because it can't write temporary files to the drive.  I am running Lightroom 4.2  and Flickr Plugin 4.2.0.850741.  Instead I installed Jeffry Friedl's Flickr plugin as a workaround, which does not have this issue (http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/facebook).
    Adobe, please look at this!

Also, I used Microsoft's Process Monitor to track which files were written when I published a 1-photo collection to Flickr:
These are exactly the directories and files you'd expect, which suggests something very curious on your configuration.  A screenshot of the error message might produce more clues.

  • Oauth_problem=nonce_used with Jeffrey Friedl's plugin

Lightroom 3.6, 64-bit on 64-bit Windows 7.Version is current; no updates available. Problem manifested all the sudden.
    a) Using the built-in Lightroom Flickr publishing plug-in, I get the mysterious error "Can't update this collection. Could not contact the Flickr web service..." when publishing photo sets. I can export a set of about 8 pictures fine but I'm not sure what the issue is: number of pictures, captions, other metadata.
    a) Using Jeffrey Friedl's plugin, I get "oauth_problem=nonce_used" and again. I have never published an entire photo set. A set of 8 pictures with no associated metadata published 6 then got the error. I will try to contact Mr. Friedl also.

    Congratulations, Tim!
Piglet architecture and your cooperation with Jeffrey so impressed me!
Now your tools fit to my workflow and work quite well for me.
(I am using transporter + mogrify piglet for automatic JPG proofs preparation and export to separate folder tree)
The main problem now (I am on PC) is spawning MOGRIFY.EXE - it is popping up for each image on top of the other windows and take focus, not allowing to do anything on PC until export finished.
I think it should be the way to use CORE_RL_magick_.dll directly from LUA code.
If not, spawning MOGRIFY.EXE _minimized_ will help alot.
Thank you for you geat tool again!

    Hi,
I have Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition installed on my computer. I keep get error message said "Please install Visual Studio 2005 before install Acrobat 9 Plugin Wizard" when I installed Visual Studio App Wizard  Acro9PIWizInstaller.msi.
    Any idea?
    Thanks,

    Lol
Do you take me as a joker ?
*Of course I have contacted the micorsoft support first !*
*They ask me to try to install the .net framework 3.5, to see if the setup wasn't define as XP compatible.*
*Then they don't have answer yet and asked me to contact Toshiba support (funny no ?)*
Also If you look at the microsoft support forum the only installation pbm with Visual Studio with Vista is toshiba laptop satelitte related
Ok now, as it's my job, here is what I think :
Maybe the laptop was first setup with XP and maybe Tshiba reseler did install Vista on it as a migration !
    First case
So to be absolutly sure it wasn't the case I did a format of my HDD and reinstalled vista from the Toshiba Crash and recovery CD
    Second case
The problem remain, so it is possible that this Recovery CD and/or any other Toshiba product create this problem !!!!
Note that the C# or J# express just work fine, it's only the Visual Studio 2008 tem suite and pro

  • Can we 'test' a plugin or extension "BEFORE" upgrading FF? I have a password toolbar from Nortons that I love. Can I test the next FF version before installing?

Every time I up the FF version, I learn my nortons toolbar is not compatible. Then I have to UNinstall and resort to last version. Some time later, I learn the nortons toolbar will now work in the newest FF so I upgrade. When the new FF rev comes out, I go through it again. Is there a way to test toolbars before installing the newest FF?

Norton usually has an update available each new version of Firefox the same day (or next) that Mozilla releases a new version. Running a Norton Live Update after the new version of Firefox is installed usually solves Norton Toolbar compatibility issues.

  • Flickr plugin does not "replace" when uploading after elimination of Flickr Pro accounts

When uploading an image to flickr it has been possible for Pro accounts to re-upload a photo and replace an existing upload. This "replace" functionality keeps intact any comments, ratings, "favorites" etc that the photo has accumulated on the Flickr website since the original image was uploaded. The Lightroom Flickr plugin (authored by Adobe) has always correctly limited this "replace" functionality to Pro accounts (flickr did not allow the API call for non-pro accounts).
With the recent flickr policy change eliminating Pro accounts, flickr has enabled the replacement functionality for all users. However, the Lightroom flickr plugin still performs a check for a Pro account and does not attempt to replace a previously uploaded image if a user has a non-pro account (which is now all accounts that were not grandfathered in as Pro). The plugin currently uses the older behavior of first deleting the image and then uploading a new image, thus losing all comments, history, views, bookmarks etc that the old image has accumulated.
There is another non-adobe flickr plugin, and the author of that plugin stated on his web site that simply using the old Pro "replace" API call now works for normal flickr accounts.
I recognize that this flickr policy change happened recently, but I'd like to be sure that Adobe is aware of this change so that the next point release of Lightroom will include a change to the built-in flicker plugin to remove the check for Pro accounts and allow all users to replace photos. I used this feature a lot when I was a pro subscriber, and I think all flickr users of Lightroom would appreciate this change. It is still possible for all users to replace an image on Flickr by exporting to a jpg from Lightroom and then uploading the replacement through the web site, but enabling the plugin would obviously be better for customers.

I worked with Gokul from Adobe support, and we eventually stumbled into the solution.
    The system clock was wrong!
Based on something Friedl says on the blog for his Flickr plugin, the Flickr authentication APIs will fail if the system clock is wrong.  His plugin helpfully points out that the clock is wrong when you install it.  It also reports the error that he gets from the Flickr APIs: HTTP 401 (not authorized).  Unfortunately, Lightroom's builtin Flickr publishing plugin doesn't report any error, and it just fails silently.
In my case, Windows appeared to be displaying the correct time, but the time zone was incorrect, and my system time was actually 3 hours ahead.  I reset the clock and timezone and restarted Lightroom.  Now, the builtin Flickr publish plugin is working again.

  • Wish to uninstall corrupt flash player before installing new flash player

    Hi there,
My old flash player (FP) is corrupt. As recommended by Adobe, I need to un-install the old FP program before installing a new FP program (flash player 9). But before I can un-install the old FP, I need to disable temporarily the add-on's to my browers, extensions, BHO(browser Helper Object), ActiveX, etc. The objective is to "block" any add on from preventing an un-install or an Install.
Does anyone out there know where these things are in Mac OSX 10.2.8 and how to disable them?
    Thanks.
    vkl

Can you SafeBoot the computer and then run the uninstaller, if available,
for that old of an OS X version? Was not even sure of any support for
Jaguar, since there really hasn't been much for Panther 10.3.9 for awhile.
Must be older players, since the latest ones have been too new for those
    older OS X systems, also.
At this moment, I have no ideas on where the parts may be in hiding; and
have not used Jaguar for more than three years, having both sold and
donated the computers I had which best ran Jaguar 10.2.8, (& dual-booted
OS9.2.2) at the same time. A slower transition than expected, since then,
to actually doing more with computers & less learning about repairing them.
Not sure how supportive the Adobe Uninstallers for Flash (and/or Shockwave)
Players are for those still capable of being used by Jaguar 10.2.8; and like so
many of the browsers, older versions 'sort of work' while being left behind.
+I've never had a Flash player become corrupted. What are the symptoms?+
If you have a backup clone of before this item became corrupted, you could try
& revert to the earlier full system clone; or if last but not least, Archive & Install.
+Perhaps someone with a longer-term memory or more experience in 10.2.8+
+will find your post and add the missing link to get you back up & running...+
+I had thought to try & email someone else in a different thread about this one+
+but the link only gives me the topic at hand, and the person has to be in the+
+thread in order to quote from it; apparently. I sought to email a.brody, who+
+had replied in a thread you'd asked a question (different topic) before now.+
There is a short ton of semi-responsive results to a google of the topic inquiry:

One path, I've read about but cannot verify since the original link (site was wiped) is invalid now,
was to follow this suggestion, from the time you downloaded the new Flash Player 9 for 10.2.8:
"Get Flash Player 9 for Mac OSX1-.1-10.3. After downloading, DON'T open it...yet. Search all your hard drive
for "Flash Player.plugin". Delete any you find. Search for "flashplayer.xpt". Delete any you find. Empty the
trash. Quit all browsers, and install the Flash Player you downloaded. Next, search for "Flash Player.plugin".
Copy it and paste it at Library/Internet Plugins, unless it's already there. Paste it at yourhomefolder/Library
/Internet Plugins, unless it's already there. Search for "flashplayer.xpt". Copy and paste it at Library/Internet
Plugins, unless it's already there. Restart computer. Open Disk Utility. Select the hard drive, select "First Aid".
Repair Disk Permissions. When repaired, quit Disk Utility. Launch Safari or Firefox." - unknown 10.2.8 author.
    Maybe that means something helpful.
Some of it looks familiar yet distant...
(It's all this winter - nine months of it!)
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do I remove the flickr plugin in lightroom 3

I'm trying lightroom 3 at the moment, but I can't seem to remove the flickr plugin. It's rather an eye-sore in the UI, and since I don't want to use it (after all, who decided that every person in the world uses flickr?) I want it gone. However, going to the plugin management, I can't remove it, and I can't disable it either, despite it being a "plugin", and not a baked-in program feature. I can "hide" it in the UI, which is a decent intermediary solution, but it doesn't solve the fact that there's a mystery plugin installed that I can't remove. (and I hate adobe's tendency to put stuff on my HD I didn't ask for, nor would have consented to if asked)
So: how do I uninstall and remove this plugin?

Hmm, Not being familiar with MacOS's package management, I have no idea where to even look for what you describe in Windows. There's only in-program plugin management, using file -> plugin manager (In this manager I can disable the plugin, but not remove it), and there's the Windows "programs and features" control, which is Windows' installed package manager, but it only offers me the option to repair or uninstall all of lightroom, but not individual parts of it.

  • Save As & Open Dialog Window for some documents hangs when custom VSTO plugin is installed

    Hello,
I have created a VSTO application which uploads a word document to Document Management Server. The problem is not with this plugin, but after the plugin is installed, for certain documents when user makes some modification to the document and clicks on File
-> Save As or File ->Open, the Save As/Open Dialog window, does  not show up and the Word application will be hung (spinning) as it should do if the Save As dialog window would have been shown. The only option is then to kill the WinWord process
from Task Manager. When I kill the WinWord process from task manager, I see the Save As Dialog window appear for a split second before the WinWord Process shuts down.
If I uninstall the VSTO application, everything works fine.
    Details on the application:
    Target Framework: .NET Framework 4
    Platform Target: x86
OS (Developer and End User): Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64 bit
Microsoft Office: Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Version: 14.0.6129.5000 (32-bit)
    Help!!
    Regards,
    Yogesh

    Hi Eugene,
    Thanks for your reply.
Yes I have tried an empty add-in project as well. Added a label to the ribbon and displayed a static text. I am able to reproduce the issue with this add-in as well. The issue is only reproducable if I deploy the add-in using a setup and deployment project.
While building the project, Visual Studio installs the add-in by default. If I open the problematic documents with the "developement" version of the add-in installed, it seems to be working fine.
    Regards,
    Yogesh
    Hello,

Since it could be reproduced if you deploy any add-in with a setup project, it seems this issue may be related to the your environment.
It will be helpful if you could share the following information with us.
The configuration about that setup project and your add-in.
Whether your user account has admin privilege or not.
To narrow down this issue, you could consider installing that add-in with setup project in a clean machine.
If it could reproduce this issue, then we could focus on that setup project instead.
If not, then we'd better focus on your environment to narrow down this issue.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CC won't start if flash player plugin is installed

Few days ago I installed windows 8.1 pro on a brand new PC and I was having problem starting AME, clicking on icon simply doesn't sort any effect, the software didn't open. I tried starting it as administrator, deleting \AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\, reinstalling any CC program and even using AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool didn't solve the problem.
At the same time, I was having problem with flash player and firefox; it was just crashing at start, for example at the beginning of a youtube video. Even reinstalling the plugin or firefox itself won't resolve the issue. I resolved by disabling protected mode on flash and after that, the plugin works perfectly in firefox.
Going back to the AME problem, after a few tries, I managed to resolve it by doing this:
    - uninstall Premiere pro and relative AME
    - uninstall Creative Cloud app
    - uninstall flash player plugin
    - run AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool and clearing ALL the stuff
    - install CC app
    - install PP and relative AME
    - NOT INSTALLING flash player plugin for firefox
Only by doing this, AME starts without any problem. Even after a couple of reboots, it starts nicely.
After that, I tried to reinstall flash player plugin for firefox. Just after install, with firefox still closed, i disabled the protected mode to avoid any crashes. And by this point, AME won't start anymore. By just installing the flash player plugin (without even let it crash once) AME doesn't start. The only thing that worked was to uninstall everything again, use the cleaner tool, reinstall CC and leaving firefox without the flash plugin. At this point AME starts without any problem. I tried again to reinstall flash plugin and voilà, again AME simply can't start.
What should i do to fix this? It sounds so stupid that i have to choose between flash plugin or AME, why they can't live togheter on my system? Maybe i just have to wait for an update (for firefox or flash) and see if it changes anything?
Here are some specs of my system, if it helps:
    winows 8.1 pro x64 updated
    16gb ram
    Intel i7 3820
    GeForce GTX 670
latest version of flash, CC and firefox
no plugins installed for any CC software
flash on internet explorer works well

I finally find out how to fix this.
With flash plugin installed and protected mode disabled, I also disabled hardware acceleration in flash plugin options. So I re-enabled protected mode and the plugin worked fine.
After that, I uninstalled everything from adobe, used cleaner tool and than reinstalled all the stuff. Now AME works fine.
Hope this fix will help someone.

  • Lightroom 4.1: Publishing Service Flickr plugin; Using HTML in Caption field

    All,
After hours of troubleshooting I have narrowed down a problem with an error message I’m getting when I try to export from Lightroom 4.1 using the Flickr Publishing service. The error msg is:
    Can't update this collection
Could not contact the Flickr web service. Please check your Internet connection
I have narrowed down the problem to my attempt to add basic HTML tags to the Caption (Description) Field of the Meta Data. This has worked perfectly well in all versions of Lightroom 3.6 and below (I didn’t try this type of export using Lightroom 4.0). I have also noticed that a simple page break, such as below, will also throw the same error:
“Lorem ipsum @evansante.com dolor sit amet, consectetuer
adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat veniam, quis nostrud exerci t”
Flickr will recognize URL in simple text and format them properly so:
“Lorem ipsum http://www.myurl.com dolor sit amet, consectetuer “
    Will work.
Does anyone know of a work around that will allow including page breaks or HTML??? Thanks in advance - CES

This bug, in a related way, has been noted by several users some time ago …
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/999503?tstart=30
and was reported as a bug a month ago during the release candidate period …
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_4_1_rc2_a_cr_or_lf_n_the_m iddle_of_a_caption_causes_failure_to_connect_to_flickr
Although the above mentioned bug is raised specifically in relation to “Breaks” in the caption text I believe it may be symptomatic of either generically poor XML information encoding by LR when talking to Flickr or poor / incorrect use of Flickr Api’s which cannot cope with trivial complexity in the caption field.
    – in either case it needs fixing with some priority in my opinion, but possibly the philosophy of the on-going Flickr plugin support needs fixing too.
The LR Flickr publishing service has not been maintained very well in my opinion even when fixes may sometimes be trivial.     Perhaps Adobe would do well to employ or contract with JF for such plugins in future.    I use the excellent SmugMug plugin as the yardstick by which I measure the Flickr plugin.
A fix should also be treated as priority because the LR error message takes aim at the reliability of your internet connection which may cause some to erroneously try to chase down non-existent problems with a perfectly good infra-structure or OS / Firewall configuration – that is seriously bad advice for a caption related LR bug and has scope to seriously compound the problem for the user!
Adobe, you have a responsibility to fix this before people mess with their reliable setups.
Sorry, I am not aware of any work rounds to your problem with this and suspect it may be a windows only problem (please confirm if not).
Although not entirely exactly as per your problem (I believe it is generically the same) you may wish to add your vote to the above mentioned problem report or raise a new one.

  • Must I uninstall my current version of CS6 before installing Creative Cloud PS app?

Also, Must I uninstall Lightroom 4 before installing CC Lightroom?

You can keep CS6, and it is a good idea to do so.  You might have plugins, and/or twain drivers etc. that initially prove problematic on CC.  I am not so sure about Lightroom, (which is Version 5 and not CC) but I would think that the same thing applies and you can keep both versions.

  • Flickr plugin issue corrected in LR 5.2 RC

I just installed Lightroom 5.2 RC, and confirmed that the bug related to video upload limits has been corrected.  I've reported this issue in several forums.  The issue occurred because the Flickr  plugin enforced a 2 movie per month upload limit.  However, Flickr lifted that limitation back in May.  The current video limits are less than 3 minutes in length, and no greater than 1 GB in size.  I just uploaded an event which contained 5 videos.  Fantastic!
Thank you for fixing this Adobe!

It doesn't appear that either of the two profiles you listed are specifically for the newer Nikkor 18-35mm 'G' lens. You can use the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader to install the available 1.0 crop factor profiles. One is listed as a 'D' lens, which is clearly not what you want. The other two don't specify which  lens was used. Try the two below and see if the Vignetting and Distortion corrections appear correct with one of them. Since this lens was introduced a little over six months ago my guess is that none of the Adobe or Download lens profiles are for the 'G' lens, which is substantially improved over the 'D' lens. You may be able to use them by reducing the "default" Distortion and Vignetteing settings from 100. You'll need to check the results over the zoom range for distortion and aperature range for vignetting. Keep in mind that full 100% correction of vignetting and distortion is usually not desireable with a super wideangle zoom, which can make the image look "unnatural."

    Hi,
I would like to go on through MainStage 3.
Should I have to uninstall MainStage 2 before installing MainStage 3?

No. You can keep MS2 on your drive if you want. I've actually run MS2 and MS3 simultaneously before, just to compare the plugins.
