Disable keeping track of recent folders?

Is there a way to disable Tiger from keeping track of the recent folders that have been opened
through Go>Go to Recent Folder?
Thanks.

Hi Mark,
In System Preferences > Appearance > Number of Recent Items
choose "None".
You can also use OnyX ( > Parameters) to customize Recent Items in some applications where it is normally not possible to do it through its Preferences.
In these cases choose zero instead of the default 10.

  • Importing Images as Referenced and Keeping track of Imported Folders.

I'm not sure how to even go about describing this issue other than to relate it to the way Lightroom handles the same situation. I'm trying to figure out how to keep track of the specific folders of images I Import in to Aperture to make sure that all have been imported properly. In Lightroom, in the left panel, you see an exact replica of the folders/images as they appear on the drives thay were Imported from. You then have the option of creating your own specific Gallery of Images, something similar to Projects,  that show up below the Imported folder tree.
In Aperture, there is no way to see the folder structure that the images came from that I know of. When importing thousands of images this can get very confusing and lead to missing groups of images. Images that nver get Imported. Does anyone know if we can set Aperture up in a similar fashion as Lightroom or does anyone know if a workaround that accomplishes a similar goal?

Lightroom can show you the exact structure of the files on disk.
Aperture has an abstraction layer between the files on disk and the files it manages.
This is both a blessing and a curse, depending on what you want.
In Aperture when you import you can select "Leave images in their current location."  That should work fine, and give you referenced images.  I personally have never seen this fail, but in the event that it did, and for example 102 of 106 images were imported, I don't really know of an easy way to show via Aperture what didn't get imported.

->Not quite understand your question, those apps you mentioned here are activated from your app or activated from the system?
As we know Windows Store App runs in a sandbox mode, we cannot get any system level information such as user activities, if you would like to get the information of the system, I don't think your scenario can be done in Windows Store App.

  • My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist.

My iTunes doesn't keep track of my listening history anymore. It doesn't update play counts and default "Recently Played" playlist. But it still tracking plays from my iPhone and syncing them.
I've tried to repair it with setup file. Nothing's changed.
Can you help me with that?
NOTE: Now I tried disabling the crossfade feature and it worked, started to count again. But I like crossfade, I don't want to keep it off.

I think I got this figured out. The playcount does update, but not how the previous iPod models update their playcount. Instead of immediately updating the playcount right after you finish the song like the older iPod models, iPod Touch keeps the updates in memory. The next time you connect to iTunes it'll sync those playcounts in memory to the actual songs itself, effectively updating the playcount of the songs only after connecting to iTunes. I have set my syncing manually. That's why after connecting to iTunes, my playcounts are updated. BUT it doesn't solve the mystery of my Smart Playlist. Even though in iTunes, the correct songs are listed, in the iPod Touch, it shows the old playlist.
Don't you just hate that? It was working fine before on non-iPod touch models. Now we have to live with this new bug. I just hope when they release software 2.0 it fixes these bugs and that they *give it for free!* People shouldn't be charged on something they should have gotten as a support!

  • Disable 'Recent Folders' in Go Menu

Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the 'Recent Folders' option in the Go menu. I have disabled 'Recent Items' but seem unable to do the same with 'Recent Folders'. Any help would be much appreciated.

Often-discussed, no real solution to it.

  • How do I disable iPhone keeping track of everywhere I go?

I saw online that the iPhone keeps track of everywhere we have **ever** been and saves this information in a file on the local computer for easy retrieval.
You can see the news article on the guardian's website here
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/apr/20/iphone-tracking-prompts-privacy -fears
And you can download the app to look at what the iPhone has mapped about you here
    http://petewarden.github.com/iPhoneTracker/
"The file contains the latitude and longitude of the phone's recorded coordinates along with a timestamp, meaning that anyone who stole the phone or the computer could discover details about the owner's movements using a simple program."
My question is how do I turn this map archiving OFF? I do not want my iPhone to keep a map of everywhere I've ever been, and I definitely don't want someone breaking into my computer and getting a copy of where I go either.
And was this tracking mentioned in the EULA?

Yes I saw this and it should be of concern to anyone who has a cell carrier enabled iOS device.
The program on that page doesn't give the exact, second by second, level of detail required for tracking purposes so someone can't use it to snoop. Rather it's a demonstration of what is capable IF the program is modified to show those results as the data is certainly there.
So someone would have to modify the open source code to show more detail, which I'm sure won't be very long at all and we will see the better version hosted somewhere in short order.
The way to defeat this, your phone being remotely tuned on and used as a listening device, and tracking by cell carrier companies who (so far as we now know) keep 6 months of cell tower triangulation records recorded 8 times a hour, is to use what's called a "faraday bag"
A "faraday cage or bag" is a item that can block electronic transmissions. A unplugged, used microwave oven can double as such a device for the home, provided the door is closed.
Also many phones that are off are not really off, passwords have no effect neither.
RDIF bags with stainless steel threads used to block drive by recordings of passports are available (and sold out currently) on sites like ThinkGeek.
Naturally any device in a faraday bag or cage is unable to recieve incoming calls.
And currently in the State of Michigan, police are stopping motorists and using a handheld device to download everything on their phone, over 3,000 models are supported. Encryption, passwords, location data, pictures, chat logs, everything ever done with the device, even stuff that's been erased.
    http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/34/3458.asp
Also the SSD/Flash drives used in devices like computers, iPads, iPhones, tablets etc are NOT being erased.
    http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/11/02/17/1911217/Confidential-Data-Not-Safe-O n-Solid-State-Disks
So it appears the government, in cooperation with numerous companies and industries, has sold out any right of privacy we have.
The only option is to not use the devices.

  • PC to Mac - can I keep my old photo folders?

Hi. I'm converting from a PC to a Mac this week. I'm eager to use iPhoto, but I already have my large collection of photos organized in folders and stored on my PC. Each file in the folder is not individually named, but just has the number my digital camera assigned to it, since the folder name is different.
Will iPhoto allow me to keep all my old folders and not use Faces to organize everything? I have photos of my grandchildren from birth to ages 5 and 7, respectively. How will Faces recognize those? And what about duplicate file names, such as those that are currently stored in my folders on my PC? I would really prefer just to create a folder on my Mac and drop all my pictures into that folder. Will iPhoto let me do that?

    Jill
    1. Faces will not reorganise your photos at all. It's just another way to view them.
    2. Duplicate filenames are not a problem.
    3. Yes you can use iPhoto with " e a folder on my Mac and drop all my pictures into that folder." This is called a Referenced Library and I +strongly urge you not to do this+ - especially as you are new to the Mac. I'll come back to this in a moment.
    4. You can easily recreate your current structure in iPhoto: Drag a folder of images to the Albums section of the left hand pane. iPhoto will import them +and create an album of the same name with these photos+. You can then create the enclosing Folders in iPhoto (File -> New Folder) and drag the Albums to it.
A note on a Referenced Library:
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
The best advice I can give anyone starting out is to create a Library and import 50 photos and get to to know the app for a few days.
    Regards
    TD

  • Can I keep track of the location of my lost iPhone using the lost mode in Find My iPhone even after the sim is removed?

My iPhone 5 is stolen, but luckily I had Find My iPhone enabled on iOS 7. The device is currently online(cellular is on) but location services are off. Is there any way to track its location.
Furthermore, if I turn on the lost mode and the thief turns off cellular data, would I be able to keep track its location?

Unless you enabled Find My iPad on it before it was stolen then there isn't any way to locate it. If you did enable it then you could try locating it either via http://icloud.com on a computer or Find My iPhone on another device - but that will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPad disabled on it.
If it was stolen then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.
If it was never registered to your account then it won't appear on your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
The only other ways to find it that I know of (apart from on the actual device) are via the packaging, the backup on a computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061

  • What does DIAdem do to keep track of multiple versions of itself?

I am using an automation reference to open up DIAdem. I have 8.1 and 9.0 installed. If I run DIAdem 8.1 and close it, then the reference gives me 8.1. If then I run DIAdem 9.0, the reference gives me 9.0. So the computer must be keeping track of the program that was run most recently. How does it do this?

I don't have two versions on this computer so I can't play with it to find the exact key, it's probably going to be under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\ somewhere, but it'll be under the Class ID rather than the name.

  • Keeping track of missing files

I recently moved into my college dorm, and to help me out musically I got a 300GB Western Digital MyBook to keep all my tunes on. Unfortunately, I've had a couple problems with it since I've been using it, mainly when I sync up my iPod. Random songs will often come up missing in my library, and I was hoping there might be a way to easily keep track of or hunt these down, similar to the Show Duplicates feature. If not, there really should be because there's nothing quite as frustrating (at least, in iTunes) as thinking a song's playable and available to transfer only to find out that it's actually missing, and I have to go find it in the directory where all the other songs that it knows exist already have been and will always be.

I think I may have solved this issue by copying my Library files into a folder containing the Music folder on my external, just like how the file tree is setup on the internal drive, and then holding option when opening iTunes. I'm not positive that's the best solution, but it might just work.

  • Keeping track of play count

I like to keep a steady rotation with the music I play on my iPod (5th gen.).  I do this by deleting songs that have played once or twice.  The iPod used to keep track of this and would reflect the number of plays in iTunes.  Recently this has stopped alltogether.  How do I get the play count to start working again?

Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?

  • How to keep track of sessions ?

    Hi,
Recently at an interview I was asked that how do you keep track of n number of user sessions in JSP ?
Can somebody help me with the answer that I should have given ?
    Thanks.

You would have to extend the session handling system using the various listeners for Session events. Check out the package javax.servlet.http.
SessionListener: responds to sessionCreated/sessionDestroyed - so you can keep track of sessions as they come/go.
You then also keep in memory (either a singleton, or in application scope) a permanent map of all the sessions. That way you knoe exactly how many sessions there are, and can get at the data for any or all of them.
(Note this is a potential security risk, which is why the functionality was removed from the servlet framework)
Another approach would be to use a SessionBindingListener, on a user object. This listener fires events when the object is bound/removed from a session
Assuming it is an Intranet, where a user logs in, and after login, a "User" object is placed into session. This will let the user object fire an event whenever it is bound - ie when you log in. Thus you can keep track of who is logged in, and if they are logged in multiple times.
    Hope this helps some,
    evnafets

  • How to keep track of last song played?

    Hi!
Does anyone know how to keep track of which song played last time before itunes was closed? I have a big list of songs in my playlist and I play it everyday while I'm working. If I shut down my computer and start it again the next day, I have to manually look for the song I played the previous evening. Is there a way where it will keep track of the last song and play it from that?
    Thanks
    JB

Subwaygirl, welcome to the Mac family! I'm not sure whether you're asking about beginning to play from the last song played on your iPod or iTunes so I'll answer both.
From the iPod, simply hit Play and it will begin at the next song. It cannot go back to the last song played.
From iTunes, use my answer to Chris to add the Last Played column, sort by that and select the song at the top of the list. That is your most recently played song. If you hit the >> or Next button you will then go to the next song in the randomly-sorted list.

Clarification -- is there a way of automatically making no folders appear in the Recent Folders menu, so that I don't have to hit Clear Menu - i.e. clearing the menu happens automatically. It's not a big deal really, but I just wondered.
