Disable list view stripes

Anyone figure out how to disable the annoying list view stripes (alternating white and blue stripes in list view)? I don't want the Finder to look like a check book register!
TinkerTool has been updated for 10.6, but the option is gone. My old AppleScript that I downloaded no longer works. Hopefully someone will figure that out.
Apple...how about making that a user-preference? Not everyone likes that!

I suspect no one has yet figured out where/what is controlling that. In Leopard it was a "hidden" preference, so a simple default write command to change the plist worked to turn it off. One of the first things I tried was issuing the command in the Terminal....and nothing happened. The idiotic behavior of the Help window could be changed in the same way in Leopard, and in Snow Leopard it fails as well. Checking the two relevant plists I see that the option for no stripes is indeed in the Finder preference, and the option for a normal window is in the helpviewer preference. So what has changed is that the programs simply do not use those preferences any more. They are no longer hidden preferences, they are non-existant preferences. So it may be that the easy way is simply gone.

  • Disabling List View selection behavior

    Hi,
    I am using List view to display some text rows. I need the scroll bar on the right and the Sort option on top of the list but I would like to disable the selection behavior of each row. I am just using the rows for display purpose but the availability of hand-mouse pointer on each row is misleading as it lets the user to think that some action would be available if they click the mouse on a particular row. So I want to take this hand pointer off. Is there any other alternative to provide display of a table of items with a scroll bar or disable this behavior of List View ? Please help.
    Thanks,
    Veena.

    Hi Veena,
    I guess you are using Xcelsius4.5, right? (Because in X5 there is no hand-mouse point.)
    If you are using X4.5, As I know, hand-mouse point couldn't be disabled and there is no scroll bar for table component. But there maybe a walk-around for list view component:
    1.Set the color of "Mouse Over Text" and "Selected Text" to black or other same color;
    2.Set the color of "Selected Fill" and "Mouse Over Fill" to white.
    Then when mouse over a row or select a row, there will be no color effects.
    If you are using X5, you can set Table's scroll bar property in Behavior tab.
    Best regards

  • Removing stripes from list view in Finder not possible?

    I was just informed by the makers of Cocktail that you can no longer disable those nasty stripes in list view. Can anyone else confirm this? And if so why is there still an entry to disable it in the finder .plist file?
    J

    I agree 100%. Why would Apple insist in stuffing down our throat such an ugly background is beyond me.
    I "looked" around in the finder resources and there is this:
    /Volumes/Leone/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/English .lproj/ListView.nib
    it's a compiled .nib, so it's not easy to look at it. The funny things is that if you read it as an xml file and compare it with a view brand new list view that has a striped background it seems that the bit for stripes is turned OFF by default. So maybe the stripes are changed procedurally not as a resource and maybe there is a way to change it.
    I'm not good enough unfortunately to look in the Finder code to see if that is true

  • List View WebPart custom XSL link disabled Ribbon Buttons

    Hi,
    I have added and external XSLT file for my List View web part. I followed these options in browser -> Edit page -> Edit web part -> Under Miscellaneous updated XSL Link.
    I am using this xslt file to add background colors to one of my column. The xslt is getting applied correctly. But I noticed that "View Item" and "Edit Item" option in ribbon is disabled. I removed the xslt link and ribbon worked fine.
    I have added the xslt file to site collection's "Style Library -> XSL Style Sheets" folder.
    When I added same xslt by editing the page in SPD 2010, everything worked fine. The problem appears only when I apply it externally. I found in few posts where they suggest to upload the xsl file in LAYOUTS folder. But I donot have access/permission to change
    the LayOuts folder. I donot want to edit in SPD because, it will be difficult for non technical administrators to apply xslt to other views/pages. Please suggest.

  • Still no way to remove stripes from list view finder windows?

    Is there really still no way to do get rid of these horrible stripes in list view finder windows? After all the complaints about them? Or has anyone found a way? (Or has apple granted one in one of the last updates?)

  • Bring stripes in list view mode please!

    I don't know what happened! I lost the stripes (the alternated light blue line) in list view mode in Finder and in Mail and iTunes and every program that uses some sort of list view.
    I tried to use this command
    $ defaults write com.apple.finder FXListViewStripes -bool TRUE
    $ killall Finder
    but it didn't work... please help it's driving me nuts

    Ok now the strangest things is that the stripes appear when i switch in dashboard, and they disappaear once the shadow of dashboard is gone. It's crazy, the stripes appear only if a shadow is over them. Even in a picture of a supposed striped list view, the light blue color doesn't appear until i use dashboard (I'm starting to think there's something wrong with the graphic card rather than finder)

  • Cut & Paste disabled in "List" view

    Suddenly, all finder windows won't let me edit filenames if I'm in List view, using Cut or Paste. Oddly, if I switch to Icon or Column view, both work.
    Suppose I want to change a filename from "John Smith" to "Smith, John" by cutting "John" and pasting it behind Smith, with a comma+space between. I've always been able to do this, including this morning, when all of a sudden "Cut" was disabled (and appears dim in the Edit menu).
    Here's what I've tried. (Nothing has worked)
    • Restart
    • Delete com.apple.finder.plist... restart
    • Repair permissions
    • Run all Drive, Volume & File tests with TechToolPro
    • Transfer sample folder to laptop (airport network)... laptop works okay
    Ideas?

    Hi don
    Just to clarify your situation, even when you select
    text in the filename, Edit > Cut is greyed, and
    command X doesn't work? If so that is odd.
    Yes, that is exactly what is happening.
    <snip>
    There is a fix for when copy and paste do not work
    and whilst this is not your situation, it could do no
    harm in trying it.
    In ~/library/preferences locate these two files and
    trash them
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    To re-establish them, log out and log back in again.
    Did that work?
    You will need to reset your finder and sidebar as you
    had them before.
    I've done this, and it didn't help. I should also note that, on another thread on this forum, I'm trying to determine why I get an occasional "blue cursor" when I log in, and I've done all these pref/permission things to no avail.
    Else if that doesn't work, then one suggestion is
    to:
    Repair permissions
    Re-install the 10.4.9 combo update once more
    Repair permissions again
    and hope that fixes it.
    Yes, I'd read another thread that suggested downloading the update to disk, restarting in Safe mode, repairing permissions, restarting in Safe mode and installing the update again. I've done this, too. Problem persists.
    You say it is a small thing to worry about, small
    yes, but it is fundamental and it should operate.
    I hope this helps you.
    Well, this didn't solve the problem, but I certainly appreciate the effort.

  • Web App hyperlink disabled in list view?

    Hi Folks,
    I am a novice coder that needs a bit of your help:
    I have created a web app but some of the componenets doesn't seem to work. In the list view  I created a Div that contains 3 fields, one being a picture that is a link to the detail page. But when I view the list layout it doesn't seem to be linkable.
    Can anyone tell me what is wrong?
    http://deerfootnew.businesscatalyst.com/dsds
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    LIne 1714 in ModuleStyleSheets.css you have z-index:-1
    div.df2 {
         • position: absolute;
         • top: 0px;
         • z-index: -1;
         • width: 214px;
         • height: 268px;
         • overflow: hidden;
    Remove it and it should work. You may also want to display:block the link.
    Cheers,

  • HOW TO DISABLE THE VIEW OF CONTACT

    Hi
    I want to know how to disable contact view from a friend taking my phone
    exemple : If I give my cell phone blackberry 9900 to a friend for 1 day, I want for him the possibility to answer phone call and see who is calling him ! ,
    buy I want to disable any search in full contact list
    how to do this ?
    help,
    mail me back

    You cannot selectively lock the address book app. If all contacts are sync'd online you can delete the account. However, the all around better approach would be to backup the device and do a security wipe before loaning it.

  • Two all day events in list view?

    Is it possible to have two all day events over the same time period in list view? When I try to add a second, the first is then only shown as three dots on each day (the stripe disappears).
    Thanks

    Same problem here; if I EVER find out the solution I will post it here.

  • List view sorting in Finder is sluggish, rendering it practically unuseable

    I've noticed that whenever I set a Finder window to list view and then try and sort the different columns by ascending or descending order, the sorting often doesn't work or works but only after some time, typically 15–30 seconds. This is not acceptable on a new and supposedly fast iMac, or really any Mac. I have a MacBook Air running Mavericks and the Finder is not sluggish at all on that computer. I thought maybe this was due to one of the following:
    OS X Mavericks bug (but then why don't I experience this on the MacBook Air?)
    Software conflict of some sort
    Odd preference that is buried deep in my preferences somewhere
    The maddening thing is that it does work sometimes, but other times it doesn't work and then a little while later it starts working. The unreliability is absolutely crazy making. It indicates to me some sort of software issue (either a conflict with some software that I have or an OS bug). I should mention here that I have Dropbox installed, and I saw on some other forum post that there were some Finder related issues with Dropbox, so maybe it has something to do with that (but again, the MacBook Air also has Dropbox installed and no sluggish Finder sorting there).
    Or, I noticed that the list view columns in Mavericks appears greyed out, and this was not the case with OS X Lion (my previous Mac had Lion, and the Finder sorting was rock solid). This leads me to an alternate theory that some preference somewhere is set incorrectly, but this doesn't explain the unreliability.
    I have double-checked the obvious things:
    Finder View options (I have selected Arrange by: None and Sort by: Name as the defaults for list view, as well ticked the columns to show when in list view, and yes, I'm not calculating file size)
    Power Nap is off (someone somewhere on the interwebs mentioned that Power Nap makes the Finder go to sleep and this could explain the delays in sorting)
    Has anyone else had a problem with sorting in list view? I use this quite a bit to find the most recent files in sometimes very long lists of files. It's an essential file management tool for me and I'm hoping there is a relatively easy fix.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • List view is blank in event browser

    I have noticed something strange in Final Cut ProX.  If I select an event in the Event Browser while in Film Strip View I can see all of the files that are in that event.  If I click on the icon to show clips in List View, none of my files can be seen in the Event Browser.  If I then click back on the Film Stip View, the Event Browser stays blank.  The only way to get it working again in Film Strip View is to close and re-open Final Cut ProX.
    Am i doing something wrong or is there a problem with the program.  I purchased the Ripple Training series and it seems that I should be able to just jump back and forth between the two views.
    Thanks for the help.

    Due to the silence, I figured nobody else had this problem so I went ahead and called Apple for assitance.  The issue turned out to some sort of corruption in my preferences.  I was able to resolve the problem by trashing my preferences file.
    In case some else has a similar strange issue, it is very easy to trash your preference file.
    1) Close FinalCut Pro X
    2) Open a finder window
    3) Go to Library\Preferences
    4) Find the file "com.apple.finalcut.plist"
    5) Delete the file "com.apple.finalcut.plist"
    6) Restart your computer
    7) Open FinalCut Pro X and it should be like when you first started the program
    This does not seem to impact any of your previously imported events or projects -- it just resets the program settings.

  • ADF mobile: how to link task flow to a list view item

    Hi
    I am trying to build a mobile app in adf and i created a popup on the left button on the header. this popup has a list view showing few options.
    now the requirement is to click on the option and navigate to that feature (which is created as a task flow).
    so, i am not sure how do like the task flow to the link in the listView of the popup. Please advise

    Well, if that list contains all features, you can use the 'features' from the ApplicationFeatures DC (they contain the ID, name, ... so you can use #{row.id} instead of hardcoding it).
    If that list does only contain a few features, you can make your own list.
    In your own backing bean or data control, you can get all the features by using:
            ApplicationFeatures af = new ApplicationFeatures();
            af.getFeatures();And filter them.
    An example that I made/use myself:
    It uses an commandLink to navigate because I need to be able to 'disable' (= not clickable) some features (it has the same look as an ListView).
    So iff just use the getFeatures(), you can use the ListView for navigation.

  • Calendar 'List view' bug

    I'm still patiently awaiting a fix from Apple (who are apparently aware) for the bug discussed at length in another thread which has now been archived. See here... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2470805&start=60&tstart=0
    Further to that thread, I have noticed that this problem does not occur when changing entries while connected to my home 3G network.
    When I go abroad I disable Data Roaming and only use Wi-Fi. Changing any appointments then somehow corrupts the dates of nearly all the other appointments but only in List view. All appointments on MobileMe still show correct dates so it is only on the iPhone's List view.
    Whether this is due to being in a different time zone (Time set automatically in Settings) or Wi-Fi, I don't know.
    Please Apple... fix this bug.

    In my Calender I have the same bug. I haven't found any help.
