Disable low power wake?

Hi everybody,
is there any way to disable low power wake? Unfortunately, it causes a lot of problems, e.g. TeamViewer, Rowmote, EyeTV refuse to work properly after Wake on LAN because the screen is not turned on again. It's a very annoying feature, especially on my Mac mini which I use as HTPC. If there is no fix or no update coming, I will have to go back to Snow Leopard.
Thanks in advance
Steffen

  • Disable Lenovo G550 Low Power Beep

I own a Lenovo G550 laptop and although many issues are bareable, the low power beeping is not. I believe it is a setting in the BIOS that controls the annoying noise. In Windows 7, muting the speaker/headphone volume was enough, but in Linux it is not. Is there any BIOS update or settings within the BIOS that I can change to disable this beeping?
    BIOS: 18CN33WW (V2.06) (08/21/2009)
As shown by lshw command in Linux.

Unpack the exe package with 7Zip and edit the config file if you have one. Read carefully inside it about flags (for example: make a backup for current BIOS, reboot/halt, erase CMOS).
I'm against BIOS updates under Windows enviroment. So, you can search on Google how to make a BIOS flashing using a pendrive/dvdr under DOS enviroment.

  • MBA fails to wake (Platform Failure) after entering Low Power Sleep state

    2011 MacBook Air 13” model number A1369
The issue: every time the battery drains empty and the device automatically shuts off, it will not properly power-on after being charged.  The display backlight is active (and apple logo on the rear is illuminated) although the screen is blank.  The machine doesn’t respond to any command or action.  The machine will not respond to ping requests and does not appear to attempt to join the network according to the Airport logs.  Closing the clamshell and re-openning does not appear to make any difference.  The only action that yields any response is to hold the power button until it turns off and then turn it back on again.  This has happened 100% of the time since the MacBook Air was purchased. This behavior does not happen with the 2009 MacBook pro also running OSX Lion.

    PRAM reset
Set main HD (“Macintosh HD”) as Startup Disk

    Any advice?

I have the exact same issue 100% reproducible BUT I also know how to exercise the bug without needing to run down the battery.  Simply do sudo pmset -a destroyfvkeyonstandby 1 hibernatemode 25 then remove the power cord, close the clamshell, plug the power cord back in so it charges for a second, then open the clamshell.  You will be in the same blank screen state as if you had let the battery run out.
hibernatemode 25 basically just tells the computer to go into hibernate mode instead of sleep mode wheenver you close the laptop.
destroyfvkeyonstandby tells the computer to power down the ram as soon as it enter hibernate mode.
This problem is way worse than any of you suspect.  In all probability the system was intentionally broken in order to provide a backdoor into FV2.  Let me explain:
It's impossible to achieve a secure FV2 system without using the following settings:
    sudo pmset -a destroyfvkeyonstandby 1 hibernatemode 25
because otherwise what will happen is your FV key will be stored in RAM during both sleep and hibernate states.  That means if a bad guy steals your laptop while it's in sleep or hibernate state he's then free to take an unlimited amount of time to attack it.  He will be able to retrieve the key from ram as DEMONSTRATED LIVE a few months ago at a security confrence.  The tools to preform the attack to retreive the key along with a detailed writeup are availble here:
    http://www.frameloss.org/2011/09/18/firewire-attacks-against-mac-os-lion-filevau lt-2-encryption/
So at the risk of repeating myself... the conclusion is it's impossible to have a secure FV2 MBA system because of this bug.  I suspect it's a conspiracy because it's too convenient of a bug..
apple has the fV2 system insecure by default (key stored in ram by default) and then apple happens to have a bug that prevents you from flushing that key then hibernating which would be the secure way to do it. Too much of a coincidence.

  • Lion low-power mode and iTunes client

Potentially dumb question, but it may make a difference in when and/or how I update my home network for media...
I understand that OS X Lion includes a "low-power" mode, in that it's a partial wake-on-LAN that doesn't wake up the display, etc.  I also know that an Apple TV can't stream media (movies, specifically) from an NAS type system without going through an iTunes client at some point (even if the NAS has an iTunes server built in).
So, my question is -- does Lion's wake-on-LAN work in this sort of situation?  That is, if the computer is in sleep mode, but iTunes is running, will attempting the stream a movie from the NAS to an Apple TV "wake" the Mac to perform its duties, and if so, does it do so in the low-power mode that doesn't turn on the display?

  • Low power on USB port for external hard drive

    Hi all!
I'm new here and I have some question about my brand new hybrid - HP Envy x2.
Couple days ago i found an issue that usb ports are powered by from motherboard even when tablet with dock is turned off or in hibernation mode. This is problematic when I leave device with plugged usb hub, external HD, speakers (powered from usb port) and mouse. After 8 hours in work when I go back home I saw that battery is about 10-15% lower than before leaving Envy x2. I disabled USB charge mode in BIOS, but after that I have problem with working of my external HD.
When I try to attach hard drive to computer and then I try to turn it on nothing happens - looks like system (Windows 8.1) can't boot. But after immediate unplugging HDD from USB system goes to procedure of starting. I also tried to plug Toshiba HD after turning on my Envy x2 and being in desktop, but nothing happens. Light on HD is blinking, I can hear from it sound like clicking (trying to start?). Also HD is visible in Device Manager but not in My Computer (as additional partition).
I have tried to change boot options in BIOS by positioning of devices (priority to boot from CD ROM, HDD, OS etc.) but did not fixed problem.
After couple of tests provided to found why my HD did not work properely in disabled USB charge mode I know that USB port did not give minimum value of power from supply. I found cable with one plug on one side, and with two plugs on other side (like "Y" type). Then i plugged one end into first USB port, then second end in second USB port and finally - last end of cable to m HD and booooom! It works!
Here is my question: Is there any ability to change that kind of power supply on USB ports? I want to power mu external hard drive from one USB port, not from two. I have USB hub but don't want to use two USB ports (on the opposite positions of docking station) and additional USB cable. I have the most recent BIOS (F12) and all fresh drivers installed on my computer.
    Any solutions?

I am not going to take credit for this. I had a similar problem, but all of my USB ports stopped working for EVERYTHING! You were right on track, and here is the final bit of information that you needed: Microsoft Surface tablet External USB hard drives auto-sleep in Windows 8.1 Posted on November 4, 2013 After upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Pro, my SeaGate Expansion 2TB hard drive always runs to sleep mode automatically and then disappears if no file transfers occur. when I try to access its stored files, the File Explorer will be unresponsive. Changing the power options is not working. In Windows 8.1 the external USB hard drives and USB flash drives are configured with a low power state by default. That causes USB massstorage devices auto-sleep or file transfers stop unexpectedly. You could change the hardware ID of USB storage device in the registry to resolve the problem. * Updated to the latest firmware for the device to check if it is fine. * From Start screen, open the Search charm, type regedit, right-click the regedit icon from result, and select “Run as administrator“. * In the left pane of Registry Editor, navigate to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\usbstor * Right-click the “usbstor” and create a key with the following key name: apricorn (aegis padlock) 09840315 buffalo external hdd 500gb 04110105 cavalry dual bay dock 152d2352 diskgenie usb device 09840092 hitachi touro 3.0 4tb usb 3.0 49711015 kingston datatraveler hyperx 3.0 usb device 256gb (dthx30/256gb) 0951162b lacie 2tb usb drive 059f1018 mediasonic h82-su3s2 probox 152d0539 multi-drive enclosure connected 15200551 seagate expansion 2tb 0bc23320 seagate expansion desk 3tb 0bc23312 seagate fa goflex desk 2tb 0bc25071 verbatim store ‘n’ save superspeed 3tb 18a50400 western digital elements desktop 2tb 10581021 western digital my book 2to 10581140 * Now right-click the new key, create a DWORD entry named DeviceHackFlags with 400 hexadecimal value. * Make a reconnection for the device. • W520 entering sleep mode but sleep disabled in power mgmt?

I have a W520 running Windows 7 Professional. Just recently, my laptop has been going into sleep mode after being idle for about 2-4 minutes (the time is not consistent). My power management is set to "high performance". Put the computer to sleep is set to "Never". The advanced power settings are:
    Sleep after
    On battery: Never
    Plugged in: Never
    Allow hybrid sleep
    On battery: Off
    Plugged in: Off
    Hibernate after
    On battery: Never
    Plugged in: Never
    Allow wake timers
    On battery: Disable
    Plugged in: Disable
Does anybody have an idea of why my laptop goes into sleep mode after 2-4 minutes? Is this a software or hardware problem?

    Hi KnightCa,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I'm really sorry to hear that your Lenovo W520 goes into sleep mode even after it has been disabled in Power management.
Go to Control panel - - >Power Options - - >Change plan settings (Choose the Power plan that you have selected) - - >Change advanced power settings - - >Adjust the settings under sleep and display as shown below.
Also, try doing a windows update and reinstallation of Power manager in your system.
If the above said didn’t help, try doing a registry editing.
    1. Open the Start Menu.
    2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type regedit and press Enter.
    3. If prompted, click on Continue in the prompt.
    4. In regedit, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4-97BE242C8F20\7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0\DefaultPowerSchemeValues.
    5. Expand DefaultPowerSchemeValues and Click on the key that is for the Power Plan that you want to change the wait time (Refer the table below)
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    6. In the right pane, right click on ACSettingIndex (while on AC power) or DCSettingIndex (while on battery power) and click on Modify.
    7. Choose Decimal, and type in how many seconds you want Windows to wait to go back to sleep automatically after an unattended wakeup.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    8. Close regedit.
    9. Restart the computer to apply.
Hope this helps and do post back with the results. Expecting to hear from you soon.
    Best Regards,
    Mithun.

  • Problems with multiple USB devices. (Possible Low Power on USB Bus)

I believe I'm having an issue with the USB bus or one of my devices that I have installed on my iMac.
I purchased this iMac along with a printer (HP C4280 All-in-One) as part of a promotion deal. I also have wireless logitech USB mouse, and iPhone and an 80gb 5th Gen iPod.
My problem has to do with syncing the iPod and iPhone. Normally I have the printer attached to the iMac along with the USB mouse. Both devices function as expected. However I have problems when I connect the iPhone or iPod.
iPod Symptoms: When I connect the iPod the iPod screen shows the flashing red circle with a line but iTunes never launches and the iPod never syncs.
iPhone Symptoms: When I connect the iPhone the iPhone screen says Sync in Progress and iTunes does show the iPhone in the list of devices but a dialog appears giving me one of two messages (that I've seen so far) - [msg 1] Your iPhone is corrupt please disconnect then reconnect to restore. [msg 2] iPhone device timed out.
I've been dealing with this problem for a couple months and found that if I disconnect the printer (HP C4280) then connected either other device then everything works just fine.
I downloaded XCode 2.5 and launched the USB Prober utility. Then plugged in each device in turn and found some interesting findings.
When connecting the iPhone (1st attempt) the USB Logger reported; (iTunes displayed msg 1 from above)
128.517 [1] USB Device iPhone is violating Section 9.3.5 of the USB Specification -- Error in GetConfigDescriptor( wLength = 4)

When connecting the iPod (1st attempt) the USB Logger reported; (iTunes never showed that the iPod devices was connected)

    1809.166 [1] AppleUSBEHCI[0x28a7000]::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 253, timing out!
I'm suspicious of the USB Low Power Notice. If this is true then I suspect the my iMac might need some type of repair. However I am also suspicious of USB Device violating the USB Spec Error. Although this is the message that appears when I plug in the iPhone or iPod I don't think I can assume that error relates to the iPod or iPhone. The error doesn't specify which USB Device is in violation.
My current workaround is to unplug the printer every time I sync the iPhone or iPod which is cumbersome. I'm also worried that repeated connecting/disconnecting of USB plug for the printer will over time damage the USB port.
I'm not sure what options I have here. Can anyone provide some suggestions or information that might provide some insight.
    Best Regards,
    xgnomex

A-Ha! Now I'm feeling like my 1.5 hours of reading this forum are not wasted, since I've found others with similar symptoms.
I've only had my iMac for two weeks today. I've got some new accessories & have experimented with the ones I've had awhile (various USB external drives). My model has 3 USB ports, one of which is taken by the keyboard, of course.
Over the weekend, I picked up an MS Office 2008 Upgrade and also an HP Officejet Pro L7680 all-in-one. I only mention the Office upgrade because I installed it on the same day as the printer, but it's possibly unrelated.
I actually have a Belkin 4-port hub--not the same one suggested in this thread, but externally powered with it's own A/C adapter. (It's a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 r-Port Hub, model F5U234 Rev.3, and I used it with a previous iMac G3 CRT with no problem.)
So with a LaCie 100 GB USB Mobile Drive in one of the iMac's ports, and the HP L7680 in the iMac's third port, or the HP via the Belkin hub in iMacs the third hub, here are some of the symptoms I've seen:
    1) while browsing in Firefox, suddenly the mouse-cursor will "freeze" (get stuck) in a pull-down selector...sometimes it unfreezes, but eventually (like on the next pull-down menu) the keyboard & mouse will shut off (and if you wait & the iMac goes to sleep, the keyboard won't let me enter my unlock password when I wake the iMac with the Apple Remote)
    2) when trying to open a document from the LaCie in MS Word, Word freezes and the keyboard & mouse go dead--terminal beachball--to restart the computer, I have to hold in the power button
    3) when trying to print a message in Mail, Finder freezes (though the print job does finish)
These symptoms seem strange! Hey, it's just supposed to work, right? But everything has limits, so my question becomes, "how much stuff can I hook up at once?"
I wonder if this Apple article is addressing this issue:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25243
especially when it says "Two high-bandwidth devices or two isochronous devices cannot be connected to a single Universal Serial Bus (USB)."
So only two hi-speed USB devices can be connected "to the same bus" simultaneously? I'm not entirely sure I understand what "isochronous" means, but I'm thinking I need to peel my printer off the USB somehow, maybe via Airport Express--?
Does anyone know for sure about USB limitations? Thanks.
Also, xgnomex, how/where did you find that "USB Logger"? Is that something iPhone-specific, or is it an OS X log in a Library somewhere?

  • Automatically reconnect to Mobile Network when coming out of Low Power mode

My Pearl 8130 automatically disables the Mobile Network when it goes into Low Power mode. Unfortunately, it does not automatically re-enable the network when it comes out of Low Power mode. It also doesn't allow me to re-enable the network immediately after I've plugged it in, only after I've plugged it in and the battery has recharged for some period of time.
This means that I frequently absent-mindedly leave my phone disconnected from the network for hours at a time, even after the battery has recharged and the phone is capable of reconnecting. This is really inconvenient and, in my opinion, a huge design flaw.
Is there some way to configure my phone so that it will automatically re-enable the network as soon as (or soon after) battery power has reached the necessary level?

Actually, newer models do behave differently and have a different threshhold for cutting off the radio.
But remember this, the 8100 is getting to be an old device... and batteries have been upgraded since it was first released, as well as technology and specs on the newer devices.
The goal of the BlackBerry in cutting off the radio is to allow reamining use of your device, and to not allow the entire battery 100% to be sucked dry. Leaving the device signal and data running at less than 15% will very quickly deplete.
So, with that said, I would still recommend topping off the battery from time to time, in your case at night, or first thing in the morning.
And look at this application, ForceRadioOn
    http://www.blackberrynews.com/2009/06/09/free-forceradioon-app-for-when-your-battery-gets-low/
But remember, using that app will drain your battery pretty quickly, but allow you to make that one last emergency call.
I guess you just can't have it both ways, long-life battery AND leaving the radio on below 15%

  • Low power warning for AIR-LAP1242AG-C-K9

    Hi Buddie,
We purchased some AIR-LAP1242AG-C-K9 , but not perchasing any wireless controller. When I connect the LAP to Cat2950 or Cat2960 PPoE port, all the LAP can not boot normally. It indicates low power, please refer the two pictures attached. But if I use external power cable, the LAP can work well. So, I would like to know two things.
    1. Can I use LAP standalone without using controller ?
    2. If the above is Yes, how should I configure the PPoE on cat2950 to Support LAP correctly?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Jian,
    Q. Can an LAP operate independent of a wireless LAN controller (WLC)?
    A. No, LAPs cannot function independent of WLCs. LAPs function in conjunction with a WLC only. The reason is that the WLC provides all the configuration parameters and firmware that the LAP needs in the registration process.
So you will need to either send the AP's back and get the IOS version, purchase a WLC or convert the LAP to IOS :(
    Q. How do I distinguish between a regular (autonomous) AP and an LAP?
    A. The easiest way to distinguish between a regular AP and a LAP is to look at the part number of the AP.
LAP (Lightweight AP Protocol [LWAPP])?Part numbers always begin with AIR-LAPXXXX.
Autonomous AP (Cisco IOS? Software)?Part numbers always begin with AIR-APXXXX.
    From this good Q&A doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_qanda_item09186a00806a4da3.shtml
You can convert an access point from lightweight mode back to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS Release that supports autonomous mode (Cisco IOS release 12.3(7)JA or earlier). If the access point is associated to a controller, you can use the controller to load the Cisco IOS release. If the access point is not associated to a controller, you can load the Cisco IOS release using TFTP.
Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.
Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 5 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 6 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 8 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 9 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.

I had left my iPad with low power for a day.  When I pluged it in it will not recharge or turn on after being plugged in for 24 hours.  It is completely Dead.  How can I recharge?

    Try resetting the iPad:
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).

  • Low power mode

I went hiking this past weekend and wanted to only take my iphone instead of the usual GPS, camera, and cell phone. Unfortunately, my battery will only last about 24 hours (or less if at extreme edge of cell range).
I used a GPS mapping application that allowed me to cache map tiles on my phone ahead of time, but I found there was no way to turn off the power hungry radio while still leaving my GPS enabled. So every time I wanted to take a picture (with location tags) or get a breadcrumb on where I was I had to turn off air plane mode, let my GPS get a location and then turn off airplane mode. The other problem with this is that when I did have airplane mode off, my email started to sync which just burned up even more battery (and reminded me of all the work I should be doing!).
It would also be ideal if apps had a low power idle state where they could stay running but basically not use any power between waking up every so many minutes. This would be great for a bread crumb tracking app that only updates every so often.

  • Mac Pro Low Power 1.5V FBDIMM's

Is there a way to get the Mac Pro to be able to use Low Power 1.5V FBDIMM's instead of the standard 1.8V FBDIMM's?

  • Disable Firewire power supply

I have an audio interface A/D converter with its own "wall wart" power supply connected via Firewire to my Mini. This converter is also capable of being powered through Firewire. This added functionality is actually a bit of a nuisance. Is there any way of accessing the Firewire port so that I can disable its power supply function?

Hi, thanks for the hospitality and the reply!
FW power isn't causing any trouble, per se, but when I power the studio down, the device remains "on" (it has no switch) unless I physically disconnect the FW.
I assume the device toggles power from the "wall wart" to the FW since the outlet on the power strip that my Mac is plugged into is always live.
    Thanks again,

  • USB low power message

G4 (MDD) running OS X 10.4.11 - Just got a Zoom H2 digital recorder - when I try to connect to USB (via powered hub) I get a low-power warning and no luck connecting (even with the H2 plugged in via A/C). It works fine when I plug directly into the USB port in the back of the computer. There are only 2 USB ports on my G4 - my hub is in one USB port (has my printer and a couple of flash drives in it), and the other onboard port is for my keyboard. This does not seem to be a USB version issue, but rather an available-power issue (?) Can anyone please suggest a solution - do I need to add a USB card (PCI), and if so, what can you recommend for my system? Thanks in advance!!

Your Mac's USB ports are USB 1.1. Even if you didn't get the low power message, the video transfer would be very slow.
Suggest you install a USB 2.0 PCI card. See USB 2.0 PCI Cards

Best bet is any card with a NEC PD720100 or PD720101 chipset Stick with the NEC chip, and try NOT to use drivers, Tiger and Leopard don’t need drivers.
All of these Cards are NEC chipset based

  • In search of msi 945gt speedster-a4r (MS-9632) or low power consumption

When and where can I find the msi 945gt speedster-a4r or MS-9632?
Although this board has been announced, appears on the website with specifications, and has been exhibited at tech shows, I can not find it in the USA.     Update:  MSI, itself, did not return any of my calls or email but one of their distributors, ASI, was very nice and said this board would appear in the USA at end of May 2006.      New update:  ASI now says end of April.
I want a system that consumes low power yet will run a controller board in a pci-e slot at x4, 8, or 16,
this MSI board looks like the thing: it runs a core duo yonah type processor and has a pci-e x4 slot.
So far, the 975x boards like Aopen have dual pci-e x16 slots but they appear only to work only with graphics boards.
I want to put a raid controller areca arc-1230 into the slot.  Areca was very responsible and actually tested the 975 boards to find out that they did not work at this time.

I'm afriad that nobody can gives you a definate answer on your question as this concern many factors to say as in production lines, marketing and distribution.
