Disable MegaRAID SAS Controller in ESXi

Hi there,
Is is possible to completely disable the MegaRAID SAS Invader Controller on a B200 M4 blade? We do not use this controller as we boot over the network using Auto Deploy in ESXi 5.5. I would like for it not to show up in ESXi.
I have created a BIOS Policy which sets to disabled the 'Intel Entry SAS RAID' and 'Onboard SCU Storage Support' options but this has not helped.
Thanks
Chris

If that is the embedded RAID controller, you might want to enter BIOS and disable it from there.

  • Cannot enter BIOS or boot from LSI MegaRAID SAS 9271-8i

    Hello,
I have a LSI MegaRAID SAS 9271-8i installed in a C220 M3 (in PCIe1). When I go to CIMC, I can see the adapter there and I can create RAID arrays. I can set the first logical drive to be the boot drive too without a problem. If I boot from ESXi installer it will see the disks and install to them.
The problem is, the server won’t boot from the disks, and I don’t see any problems for the card’s BIOS during boot. I have disabled the on-board RAID controller.
How do I get the server to boot from the RAID card?

    Hi,
Glad to see the issue is resolved now (I never saw your post before) was it that the OptionROM for the PCIe card was not enabled or the boot order was not properly set?

  • Configure SG-XPCIE8SAS-E-Z LSI 1068E(C0) SAS controller on Solarix 10 x86

I have installed a SAS controller SG-XPCIE8SAS-E-Z on SUNFIRE X4540 machine, this controller was recognized by the OS as mpt6:scsi
    cfgadm -al
    c5::dsk/c5t7d0 disk connected configured unknown
    mpt6:scsi scsi-bus connected unconfigured unknown
    usb0/1 unknown empty unconfigured ok
    I tried to use
    cfgadm -c configure mpt6:scsi
the command finished without any warning (return status was 0), but the controller is still in the "unconfigured" state. Do I need to connect some disks to make it "configured"?
How can I configured it as controller 6 -- c6 and make it "configured"?
    I am running on "SunOS bfs4 5.10 Generic_142901-07 i86pc i386 i86pc"
Thank you very much for share your expertise.

That situation can be becouse i compiled my kernel without initrd/or something like that support?
this is not related to mkinitcpio, you need to enable this option in kernel and disable generation of initrd (running mkinitcpio). Two different things.
I mentioned this before: you need to check build-in modules (fs, SATA/SCSI, disk driver all build-in), learn about VM (disabling swap is wrong and will not speed up anything), you have plenty of stuff enabled including massive debugging which will slow down system

You even have three more connectors free on your Perc controller, so you could add three more disks, without using any motherboard connectors.
I think you have two alternative approaches:
    1. Add a smallish disk as a boot disk, i.e. a 150 GB Velociraptor and install OS and programs there and let your raid5 exist as it is, or
    2. Add another 600 GB to your raid5 to make it a four disk array.
Of course you could also do both. Breaking the raid out to individual disks means that all data on the current raid will be lost, unless you have a backup available, but it will still mean a fresh install of OS & programs, so remember to deactivate Adobe before you do anything to your disk setup like in alternative 1 or breaking out the array.

  • RAID Card/SAS Controller Options for MacPro1,1

What options do I have with a MacPro1,1 for a SAS controller and/or hardware RAID?
The two products on the apple store (linked below) both have unfavorable reviews. It is also unclear what MacPro models the two cards work with.
My target configuration is 4 SAS drives in RAID 5.

Thank you to for reading and for any assistance you can offer.

Any app on the iPad which has the ability to connect to the Mac over the network shouldn't care whether the Mac Pro is wireless or wired - provided your network is configured so that the iPad and Mac Pro are on the same subnet (basically their IP addresses need to be the same except for the last number). Have you tried using the controller app with the Mac Pro wired as it is?

  • Disabling the IRda controller

    Hi All,
I am not sure if this is the right forum to post in.. but..
I need some help with writing and applescript/bash script that will disable the IRda controller (and stop the remotes working)
Preferably something i can automate (I have over 700 computers to do this on), unfortunately using the server to do this is not an option, all the computers a re bound to a windows AD network, no OD controller.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Easier to build an automator app and push it out via casper to the startup items folder when i have 700 systems to do it on.

  • WLAN disable on a controller upgrade, why?

I'm confused.  I'm about to upgrade a 5508 controller so I can do the pre-download to the access points, but in every doc I find, it says to disable the WLAN's before upgrading.  This makes no sense.  I'm just moving code over, why do I have to disrupt my wireless network in order to move code?
    Thanks,
    Eric

Steps 4(optional) and 5.  This is from 7.0.230.0 Release notes.  I believe I've seen this in several release notes versions.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn7_0_230_0.html#wp844121
Step 4 (Optional) Disable the controller 802.11a/n and 802.11b/g/n networks.
Note For busy networks, controllers on high utilization, or small controller platforms it is advisable to disable the 802.11a/b/g/n networks as a precautionary measure.
Step 5 Disable any WLANs on the controller.

  • Marvell mv64xx SAS controller and RHEL/CENTOS 5.3

I was able to install RHEL5.2 on my brand new ThinkStation D20 by using the Marvell driver provided here (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-72070.html).  However, this driver only works with RHEL5.2 (kernel version 2.6.18-92.el5).
Whenever I try to update the RHEL kernel (the latest is 2.6.18-128.1.14.el5 part of RHEL5.3) I'm not able to boot into linux because it's missing the Marvell SAS driver for that particular kernel. I've been watching Lenovo's website for updated SAS drivers but none have been released.
Any ideas where I can find a kernel module for RHEL5.3 or the 2.6.18-92 -128.1.14.el5 kernel?
    Thanks.

    welcome to the forum!
unfortunately it looks like that's the newest driver available from lenovo at this time.   you might be able to contact marvell directly for updated drivers.

  • X4200 Lsi SAS Controller and...RAID??

    Hi all,
I've got an X4200 with a 4x73 GB SAS drives.
Accessing to LSI Logic configuration I've discovered something I really didn't like.
With 2 disks on a X4100 server I created a RAID-1 and that's ok but with these 4 disks on X4200 the only things I could choose was:
    1. a stripe of the 4 disks and that's absolutely to avoid :-/
    2. a mirror (R1) of the first couple of disks and the 3rd and 4th disks left alone...
I thought that I was able to create at least a stripe of two disks and then to couple in R-1 with another stripe of the remaining ones...nothing to do
I can understand that I can let the os to manage some R-5 but unfortunately I was installing an ESX server 3 that has no driver for dynamic disks...
    Suggestions?

  • Hot plug on Marvell 64xx/63xx SAS Controller

Maybe it´s a rookie question: can I use the internal Marvell Controller sata-ports for hot plugging HDDs?
I would like to use on of the ports for a mobile rack with the usability of an eSata-port.
At the properties-section of the controller in the device-manager I enabled hot-plug for all ports. But the attached HDDs don´t show up as removable devices (hope the description is clear enough).
    Thank You in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

assuming it's an Intel drive, TRIM support will only happen on the ICH ports using either the Microsoft AHCI driver or Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver.   basically the drive has to be seen as an ATA device and not a SCSI device -- and i'm almost positive the Marvell controller will list everything as SCSI even in SATA mode.
if your SSD has internal garbage collection (ie: SandForce-based drives) then it won't matter where the drive is installed since GC is independent of the OS.
having your SSD as a boot drive with data stored elsewhere is perfectly fine.   i'm switching my D10 to an SSD soon and will be setting mine up the same way.

  • Solaris 10 and Intel RAID Controllers SRCSAS144E

    Where can I download a drivers ?

    That answer was trollish.
Did you look into this card - did you even try to see if Solaris could support a PCI-express MegaRAID SAS? This is the heart of the - ssr212mc2 - http://www.intel.com/design/servers/storage/ssr212mc2/index.htm . This is a pure Intel reference design. This is the most drives that fits into a 2U **EVER**. This is the best storage product in existence today. So being snarky and not supporting it will only hurt Sun. The SRCSAS144E is a MegaRAID SAS controller. Need I remind you that the Sun v60 and Sun v65 were pure Intel reference servers that worked GREAT! It works in Linux, want to see:

  • IBM M5015 firmware update on ESXi 5.5 (slow performance on controller)

I want to try to update the firmware for this card. Can anyone help?
    Thank you

I have IBM M5016, but as both are just re-marketed LSI-controllers (LSI-9260/9266 respectively), I suppose procedure can be the same:
    1. First install StorCLI for ESXi (you can use either one from IBM-web, or use LSI-version as I do (it is usually newer than the IBM-one)
    2. Download new firmware (not sure about M5015, but for M5016 I'm using LSI-firmware) and upload it to ESXi-datastore
    3. Flash the new firmware using ESXi-console (or connect to it using ssh-client) with this command:
    /opt/lsi/storcli/storcli /c0 download file=<filename>.rom
This works if you have only one and only controller (that "c0" switch). Otherwise you have to edit "c0" to "c1", "c2", etc. If you want to revert back to older firmware (for whatever reason), use "noverchk" switch.
This is log of my first flashing M5016 controller under ESXi (since then I repeated it many times):
    /opt/lsi/storcli # ./storcli /c0 download file=mr2208fw.rom
    Download Completed.
    Flashing image to adapter...
    Controller = 0
    Status = Success
Description = F/W Flash Completed. Please reboot the system for the changes to take effect
    Current package version = 23.28.0-0015
    New package version = 23.29.0-0016

  • Disabled domain controller computer object

on one of our DC's DC01 (RID/PDC) the computer account was disabled this was showing as disabled on all DC's in the domain. I have managed to fix it by changing the
User account control attribute on that object to 532480 in adsiedit on all DC's. I then had to reset the secure password for DC01 using netdom resetpwd as it had got out of sync. Everything now seems fine replication/authentication/DCdiag/netdiag
Why did this occur ? it looks like you cant disable a Domain controller computer account from the GUI ? am i likely to get any further issues

I have seen similar situations on the net but I have not found an explanation to this behavior (assuming here that this is a bug in the system). You can see references here:

You might check if any of the administrators have mistakenly changed the value of UserAccountControl attribute. By using ADUC, you would not be able to disable the computer account of a DC.
Please also enable the auditing in AD so that you can get more details about what happened in the future: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731607(v=ws.10).aspx
