Disable mobileme?

Hi, I never used mobileme, didn't even have any smartphone or anything until the 5 came out. I recently cleared out my contacts in the iphone to get rid of yahoo e-mail only contacts that I don't want in there (they are online already, thanks) and now all of a sudden mobileme (which showed up on my screen top right not too long ago for some reason) wants to sync my iphone and delete all those contacts from yahoo and I get an alert about that all the time.
How can I get rid of this? Mobileme no longer exists, I never used it, there's no account I can access to make changes. I'd just as well get rid of it completely from my computer. I'm on 10.6.8 on a macbook pro.
On the iphone I turned off all syncing, no use for that. For the yahoo account as well as for all contacts, not sure what else to do? How can I stop mobileme from running?

sorry, I'll try again :-)
I cleaned out my contacts on my iphone 5, removing all that were imported from yahoo mail, I only want the handful of contacts that I actually talk to on the phone in there, not hundreds of e-mail only contacts.
Now for some reason mobileme wants to sync my computer, warning me it will remove so and so many contacts on the laptop. The two arrows for mobileme on top right of the screen are spinning at that time.
I never used mobile me and since it seems to be gone now that would not matter anyway.
In icloud, in itunes, and in my iphone I turned off contact syncing where ever I could find it, I still get that error pop up several times per day.
I don't want any contact syncing with anything anywhere, I want my phone contacts to be something different than yahoo, Facebook, etc.
Since I never used MobileMe I'm not sure why it suddenly wants to do something, especially since the service is gone. Best would be if I could just remove it or at least stop it from ever running and doing anything
EDIT: as for what pops up:
Sync Alert
Syncing with Yahoo! Addres Book will make the following changes to contacts or groups on this computer:
information
Contacts   Add 2 Modify 0 Delete 35.
only options are to sync later or sync contacts, no cancel or anything else to turn this off.
I hope that's better to understand?

  • Is it possible to disable MobileMe sync to get ical sync to work?

iPhone to iCal sync worked fine before MobileMe enabled. Is it possible to disable the MobileMe sync until this issue gets resolved? Can't seem to revert the settings now that it is set up. Calendar notes don't copy, events get dropped. MobileMe is not fit for purpose at present.

  • How do I disable MobileMe?

I need to stop the relationship of MobileMe and mail.  Mail is no longer updating with new mail.  Error message: "imap.gmail.com/INBOX" cannot be contacted on port 993

I;m going to bump this because I've been trying to figure it out for a week on these forums...

  • Problem when syncing with MobileMe

I am using iPhone 3G, software 2.1. I use GMail for email (no problems) but my contacts, and only my contacts, sync through MobileMe.
The problem is that with MobileMe active, my Contact list, "Mail, Contacts and Calendars" settings and several other minor features simply do not work - they open, pause for a few seconds, then crash. The Mail application also hangs and crashes every other time I open it.
My local Apple Store restored 2.1, after which my Contact list and Email worked perfectly until I re-activated my MobileMe syncing, after which the problems resumed.
As the problems occurred only after MobileMe syncing is turned on, I assume this is the cause of the problem, but because "Mail, Contacts..." settings crashes every time I open it I cannot disable MobileMe syncing.
Any suggestions please? All help gratefully received...

This was resolved by completely removing the MobileMe account from the iPhone, rebooting it and adding the account again.

  • IPhoto still has mobileme gallery

iPhoto still has mobileme galleries and I can't get rid of them! You can't log into me.com anylonger, my computer has MobileMe shut off, but iPhoto still has mobileme galleries - if I try to click on them to delete, the program crashes.
Does anyone know how to completely disable mobileme galleries in iPhoto??
    Thanks

Go into iPhoto's accounts preference pane and delete any MMe account there. Next you can do the same in the System Preferences.
Lastly select each album in the Web section of iPhoto and delete it.  That should do what you want.
If you get this message window and click on OK the Web section of iPhoto will be removed from the library:

  • 2 iPhones, 1 MobileMe account?

My wife and I each have a 1st Gen iPhone. We share one MobileMe account to easily keep the 2 iPhones synced with contacts and 4 calendars. My iPhone is working great, but her iPhone has a duplicate of each calendar. I have tried to disable mobileme on her iPhone and re-add it but still get the duplicate calendars.
I have searched the forums and have found nothing helpful as of yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Still love my iPhone!!

Probably, but that would result in much logging in and out as we both access the home computer many times in one day. Also, I find that Windows XP slows down a bit with multiple accounts. (Still haven't upgraded to Mac yet... It's coming!) I'll give it a shot when I get home and see if it works. Thank you.
Does anyone else have any experience with this setup?

  • Backup of iCal won't work after downgrade of MobileMe Beta

Before downgrading I made a iCal Backup. I downgraded as advised by Apple (Method 1).
I downgraded form MobileMe Calendar Beta after having issues, because I could change Enties on my iPhone. Now when I try to get a iCal Backup back into iCal, it shows for 3 to 5 seconds, and disappears then. iCal goes on to the Internet, and gets the old entries of the MobileMe Calendar Beta, which is very annoying. If I disable my Internet, iCal keeps my iCal Backup, but when I turn my modem back on, it deletes all entries, and puts the old MobileMe Calendar Beta entries back into it.
I disabled MobileMe on my Mac several times, and also tried to rename Local and MobileMe Calendars. I deleted iCal Preferences, but nothing helps.
    Please help.

Just an idea... have you disabled CalDav in iCal preferences--accounts ?
I never reverted from the Beta, but could it be the CalDav that keeps working and maybe it should not once you reverted back to non-Beta Calendar

  • System Prefs:specifically MobileMe

I usually get help from someone almost immediately at any hour but I posted this in the MobileMe Forum yesterday and have received no response, so perhaps it is System Preferences issue; I'm not sure.
I'm frustrated so I hope I'm in the right Forum this time. I have searched w/in Discussions but so far have not found a similar issue that provides an answer.
I have a MobileMe Family Pack, so two accounts are set up within MobileMe.com as Master and Member. I have gone into System Prefs/MobileMe and checked Sync: Mail, Calendars, Contacts, Bookmarks and Notes w/in each account.
In iTunes, I have unchecked Sync: Mail, Calendars, Contacts, and Bookmarks.
On each iPhone, under Settings, I have set MobileMe Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, Notes, and Find My iPhone as the Default Account.
I have checked all the same Settings on my iPad, and unchecked Sync all those items for the iPad w/in iTunes.
Sometimes things sync to one device but not all. When I go back into System Prefs/MobileMe and look at the Sync settings for either account one account may have sync settings still checked, the on the other account, the prefs are no longer checked. When I check them, it's as if that account had never been synced. It can happen to either account. The major part of that problem seems to be that the checked settings within System Prefs/MobileMe do not remain checked. Each time I log out, that account loses the settings but logging out is the only way to get into the other account.
I have read somewhere on the Forum and thrown out
~/home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.prefs.plist and rebooted, but it again reverted to all unchecked sync prefs.
Is there something I'm missing that will allow each account's Sync Prefs to remain checked? Trying to fix this has become a more time-consuming problem than the old method of just updating various Calendars and Contact lists manually!
    Thanks for any help.

Concur..Mobile me is not worth the trouble. Have advised others to avoid it for now.
I have twice gotten everything truly synchronized only to have MobileMe multiply random contacts, mix email addresses, duplicate calendar entries and so forth.
About July 20 Mobileme was down late at night "for service" and there was a near simultaneous upgrade to iTunes so I thought Apple had finally fixed things..and indeed things worked until today (7/27).
So I have disabled MobileMe synchronizing....will try it again in a month or two.

  • IWeb will NOT open domain package, tried many things.

I hope someone can help me. I searched the forum several times and went through all six pages of results looking for an answer. I did try everything listed in the few posts that did seem related, as well as a lot of those tips in combination with others, but nothing has helped.
Problem: After an AppleStore hard drive replacement, I copied things over from my Time Machine backup, as well as a backup of the more important things on another external drive. I copied things very peacemeal, basically starting from scratch for a few weeks to make sure the problem I was having was gone. (It's not, but that's a story for another day). When it came time to copy over my domain file and open it, it wouldn't open with iWeb. That is to say, doubleclicking it would open iWeb, but even watching activity monitor like a hawk, I couldn't see that it was doing anything.
Here is what I HAVE tried:
1 - deleted current domain file, and copied old one in it's place. No change.
2 - emptied the folder usually used to hold the domain, opened iWeb to create a new one. Close iWeb, copy domain to desktop, then copy the old one in it's place. No change.
3 - delete preferences and caches for iWeb, then repeat step 2. No change.
4 - delete preferences and caches for iWeb, then delete any combination of the following from the domain package: .plist files, domainstate.archive file, index.xml file. I tried this step about six times, with a different combination of these files each time, finishing with a repeat of step 2, and testing it. The only combinations that had any change were leaving only the index.xml file in the package, which got me about a second-long loading bar, then nothing, and leaving both the index.xml and the domainstate.archive in the package, which got iWeb to peak around 90-110% CPU (on activity monitor), flash the app not responding message a few times, then about 10 seconds later, it started idling again, nothing having opened.
Each time I've tried both opening iWeb first, and then actually doubleclicking the domain package. No difference between them. Then I copied the iWeb app from the time machine backup into my documents folder, and manually tried to open the domain package, with .plists missing, with that copy of iWeb. No change there either.
Both copies of iWeb, the one that last saved to the domain, and the one I'm trying to open it with, are the same version. I don't even been an OS update since it was last saved; I'm pretty sure I was on 10.6.4 then too.
I'm a little hung on what to do next. There isn't much in the domain package that could be causing issues except for the ones I tried copying out; everything else is just pretty standard file types.
That said, I'm not sure what could be causing the issue on the iWeb end, since I not only deleted the preferences and caches, but also tried a whole different application file.
I am planning to do a clean install on this computer, yet again, and start from scratch in hopes I can pinpoint what is causing my (unrelated to this issue) problem, for the Apple tech guys.
Should I just do another Time Machine backup with this new image, as well as keeping the old one, and then try to copy it over again when I've re-installed? I was hoping not to have to do it for another few weeks, because I'll need another external, since this one is out of space, but I also need to be able to edit this site!
Any help anyone has, even it's just a hunch of a suggestion, would be fantastic, and very appreciated. At this point, I'll try anything that won't damage any of my data, no matter how far-fetched.
    Thanks!

It sounds as if the problems, or the symptoms at least, are the same. When I double click the domain file, iWeb opens (with the open/welcome/tutorial screen if I've just deleted preference and cache files), and I'll get the menu bar, but nothing else. With the right combination of files removed from the domain package (see my previous posts for that), I can coax a loading bar out of it, but it "loads" in the normal few seconds, and nothing displays. Nada. Menu bar has iWeb, but almost all of the items in any drop down menu are greyed out, all the important ones I checked for anyway, and you can see either the desktop or finder window, or whatever other application that was open before you clicked the domain file.
I'm not sure I included this in my last post, but I did try just simply disabling MobileMe, but without any luck. I never really thought it would work, but figured it could never hurt to try.
The disk utility found a few permissions problems, but none were related to iWeb, they all actually seemed to stem from one thing. I did repair, but no improvement. I'm hoping to have some time this weekend to try some different things to see if I can get it to open. I'll keep a detailed list of what seemed to help, what didn't, and if I'm lucky, what solved it. Short of that, free time allowing, I plan to do a clean install I need to do for another reason, on Sunday. Unfortunately that means you guys won't get any details as to what would have solved it short of something drastic like that (hopefully that will solve it...) but I've got deadlines approaching, not only for that, but for the initial reason for the clean install.
I will try everything I can think of, and anything anyone else can think of, and will volunteer to me. I'm going to move enough files around this evening and tomorrow on my externals to do a full time machine backup, plus second backup of the more important files, so anything you want to suggest, I'll be a testing ground, so others with the issue hopefully won't have to resort to the clean install. As re-installing iWeb had no effect, I'm going to assume, with my limited knowledge in this area, that problem stems from a shared file or the domain package itself. Hopefully not the latter; it's all I've got.
Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions of even something to look for that might serve to flag my attention to investigate further, I'd appreciate it, so we can get a solid plan of attack for others.
Thanks for your help so far, everyone!

  • What Happens to Me after 6/30/12?  My devices are not supported!!!

What Happens to Me after 6/30/12?  Do I get to keep my @me.com address from MobileMe because My Mac, PC nor iOS device is supported by iCloud
On 6/30/12 All ACTIVE MobileMe accounts that havn't MOVED to iCloud will be deleted as MobileMe is no longer available.
Yes, this has a lot of customers upset, but you can still keep your account active and going until you are able to address the issue with the current versions of your computer and devices.
iCloud does have a web based version like any other email address out there.  You may not be able to access the account on your Computers or devices as you would like to for what ever reason, but this will help you to keep your email address and gain access to it.
    iCloud: Supported system requirements
You can KEEP your MobileMe email address and move it to iCloud even though your devices are not compatible and here is how.
****Mac OS X 10.4.11 and before: DOES NOT fall into this catagorey as 10.4.11 doesn't Support Safari 5.****
NON-Supported Devices & Browsers for iCloud
    DEVICES & COMPUTERS

    iPhone 3Gs
    iPod Touch 2nd Generation
    BROWSERS
    Safari 4
    FireFox 3
    Google Chrome 11
Before moving the account to iCloud.  First create a MobileMe back up of all your data.  This will ensure it has been saved to your computer.
How to back up MobileMe data:
    Summary
You can back up your MobileMe data to your Mac or Microsoft Windows-based PC.
This is different from syncing with MobileMe: syncing should not be considered a backup of your data because changes to the data can propagate automatically.
Sync your MobileMe account to me.com and your current iOS device if you have one.
Make sure the data has synced to the device and http://me.com.
Then you will need to DISABLE MobileMe syncing from your Computer and Devices
    On the iPhone
To delete your MobileMe account from the iPhone/Pad/Pod Touch, tap Settings ☞ Mail, Contacts, Calendars ☞ Tap your MobileMe account.  Next, you will turn the sliders off for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks Calendars.  You are going to be asked if you want to keep or delete the data from the iPhone/Pad/Pod Touch.  Make sure you KEEP on the iPhone/Pad/Pod Touch.
    This will prevent data loss.
☞ Then Tap Delete Account. DON'T FORGET TO KEEP THE DATA ON THE DEVICE!!!
    On the Mac
Click on  ☞ System Preferences ☞ MobileMe ☞ Account tab ☞ Sign Out.

    Summary
If you have an active MobileMe account when you move to iCloud, you’ll be able to keep your @me.com or @mac.com email address and move your MobileMe Mail, Contacts, and Calendars, as well as your Bookmarks, to the new service.
    Go to http://me.com/move
Log in with your FULL MobileMe email address including @me.com
(For @mac users, use @me.com just to log in.  You will later see your account is @mac.com still)
As you go thorough the prompts, you will see an ALERT regarding if your OS is supported by iCloud.
Ignore this and select YES.  This will contiue the iCloud set up.
Once it is done, you will have web access to iCloud via a supported browser (see below) for iCloud.
    icloud.com
To access your mail, contacts, calendars, Find My iPhone, and iWork documents from your computer's web browser, one of these browsers is required:
    Safari 5 or later

  • Lion server VPN not working away from network

    Hey everyone,
So I have a mac mini setup with lion server, and setup a VPN, however after I setup the profile and installed it on my iphone and ipad, it worked great wile I was connected to the same network, but once I connect to either 3G or to a different network (than the server is based) it says,
"The L2TP-VPN server did not respond.  Try reconnecting.  If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your administrator."
I have check the port mapping settings, as I have a airport extreme and have the VPN setting checked for the extreme from the server app.  I have also disabled mobileme "back to my mac" on the computer, and also on the airport extreme just to make sure that wasn't causing the issue.  I'm out of ideas, I know it has to do with the incoming connection, and I have setup a dyndns for the ip address.  Any ideas would be really appriciated.

I also had the same issues but managed to fix it.
My airport extreme DHCP settings were conflicting with the VPN servers assigned addresses.
For example, the DHCP on the extreme was set to the range 10.0.1.200 - 10.0.1.254
And the VPN was set to the same range of 10.0.1.200 - 10.0.1.254
I then changed the DHCP range on the extreme to 10.0.1.100 - 10.0.1.229
and i set the VPN to give out IP addresses between 10.0.1.230 - 10.0.1.254
Reset both the extreme and VPN server, then boom. It started working, internally and externally.

  • Performance Issues with iMac

    Hi all,
I've done some searching for answers to my problem, but all of the threads I found were a little different than my problem. I've had a 2.0 GHz Aluminum iMac for a little over a year now, and I only have 1GB of RAM in it. I use Mail, iTunes, Safari, and the iLife Suite for the vast majority of my time on the Mac. I back up to a 250 GB Passport drive using TIme Machine, and I was syncing with my .Mac (MobileMe now I guess) account but stopped that because it didn't seem to be working very well. I watch videos on occasion (not very often), and that's about it.
Over the last month I've been experience general choppiness and more and more spinning beach balls as I move between applications. Things seem to speed up once I get into the app and start using it. I leave Mail, Safari, and iTunes open all the time. If I get on the Mac after a while of inactivity, it takes a very long time to pull up one of these applications (like 10 seconds), and I'll experience some choppiness with the Dock bubble animations, Expose, and Dashboard. Once I get going, though, everything seems to respond instantaneously like it used to. I can switch between Mail, Safari and iTunes instantly.
I've tried using Disk Utility to repair permissions, but it doesn't seem to have done anything. I disabled MobileMe, but it doesn't seem to have done anything. I'm leaning towards a RAM problem since things seem to "warm up" and start working better, but I might just be making that up, I don't know. I'm also thinking that the fact that my iTunes library, Mail inbox, and Safari cache have grown a lot since I've started. My question is, are there good practices I should be utilizing with those three applications to keep this problem at bay? And if you think the problem may be something else, what is it? Are there steps I could take to figure it out what the issue might be? Like, is there a bare-bones configuration I could do, or some kind of performance monitoring app I could use?
Sorry for the long post, but I know it's frustrating to try and troubleshoot these problems without the complete pictures. Thanks to anyone who is able to look at this. Here are some typical stats from Activity Monitor for my machine:
CPU: CPU is almost always 95% idle and only spikes during heavy use
    System Memory:
    Free: 150-250MB
    Wired: 150-200MB
    Active: 500MB
    Inactive: 200-250MB
VM Size: 33 GB (this seems huge to me...)
    Page-Ins: 2.5GB
    Page Outs: 1.89GB
    Swap Used: 1.5GB
    Disk Activity: Occasional Spikes
Disk Usage: 165 GB free of 260 GB
Network: Quiet most of the time, spikes when I download
Process Info (Real Mem, Virtual Mem)
    Safari: 150MB, 1.3GB
    iTunes: 27MB, 1GB
    Mail: 34MB, 900MB
Dashboard, Finder, Dock, Spotlight, etc: 9MB, 800MB

    Hi,
I don't think it's a memory issue... How much available drive space is there? Right or Control click your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop. Click: Get Info Click the black arrow where you see: Get Info Where it says: Capacity and Available, make sure your available disk space is a minimum of 10%, 15% is better. Not enough free disk space can definitely be the cause of the problems you are describing.
There's a great disk utility available that can show the size of files and folders to keep track:

  • How I reset Mac Mail to default?

I've tried going into Library and deleting the Mail folder and com.apple.mail.plist, It's not working, all sorts of things are wrong with the Mail App, I only got this Mac a month ago... I'm using IMAP, nothing is wrong with the server, I asked my host, It's Mail App, I've even got Outlook for Mac, and that recieves emails fine. In Mac Mail, I'm missing a local Trash folder, next to my Inbox there's exclaimation mark and when I click on that, it says the IMAP server wishes to tell you... "STATUS: FAILED" - Once again, nothing is wrong with the IMAP server...
Could someone please suggest a way for me to reset mail to the stock default, or at least suggest to me why I am recieving "STATUS failed", or why I'm missing a trash folder??
I use MobileMe to sync my settings, could that have messed things up? I actually never managed to get them to fully sync properly, but once I solve this, that'd be all my problems solved (Yes, I know, iCloud is out, one problem at a time).
Please... Don't tell me to reinstall Mac OS X, that's out of the question, I just spent a whole day syncing all my alburms to iTunes, I'm NOT doing that again.
    Thanks in advance,
    jbrdean.

    Hi,
Thanks for trying to help, I did what you said on both my Macs, disabled MobileMe, deleted the account, and re-added it. Same results, I have no trash, and I have a little exclaimation mark next to my Inbox.
I notice that even before I add the account, no trash. I've gone into mailbox behaviours and ticked move deleted items into seperate mailbox, but there is no "seperate" mailbox. When I delete items, they just disappear...
    Any ideas?

  • Disaster: All Contacts AND all previous back ups wiped by iTunes/iPhone2.2!

I had a serious disaster today... I don't use mail.app.. I use thunderbird and my address book/contact on the mac... I never use that Either. meanwhile my iPhone had become a respository for lots of important contact info... I really didn't care that it was not in sync with my mac.. I don't need it to be...
but I was having trouble with iCal sync and someone suggested using MobileMe... in the set up I (stupidly) went thru too fast and the MobileMe set up wiped not only my iPhone Calendars, but all my contacts as well. Aiyo! (Tamil for lamentations of despair). OK then on further reflection I thought I don't nee the overhead and Gorilla Dust in my life that MobileMe sync will bring I use it for Omnifocus and it works out of the box, but Apple's implementation of this sync stuff seems really, really wonky and I need to reduce wonky in my life so I disabled MobileMe in iTune and delete that account on my iPhone.
OK so I then looked on an apple support forum for what to do... happily under my iTunes/Preferences/Devices/ I found a back up of my iPhone from Nov 18.. OK. I'm good.. or so I think... because 95% of my contacts would be in that back up... OK so then I go to Apple support which recommended
    a) upgrade to latest version 2.2
    b) restore to factory defaults
    c) then go to "Restore from Back Up"
OK I did that, thinking... "Ok now, I can just choose my November 18 back up and I get all my contacts back..."
But, now in Preferences.. my November 18 back up is gone! the only back up is from today... ouch... why did apple wipe my Nov 18 back up! Hey No fair!
I think totally cooked at this point is there any way to get that Nov 18 back up, back and extract the contacts from it?
I guess in the future I should just do a down stream (iPhone to Mac) sync of fmy contacts, even though I don't use the Apple address book.. at least I have a safely new on my mac. or by one of those iPhone apps that handles all this with more finesse...
Any ideas on digging out the now invisble nov 18 back up and extract contacts from it? I do programming and if I can parse that file and just extract the data I'll be good to go...(import into address book and synce with my iPhone and back in business.)
This a really, really nasty one, as all kinds of important phone numbers and email are now completely lost. it's going to take me hours and days to recover them slowly, one by one as needed.

Ingo... thank you! Yes, TM is running on my Mac and yes I found my ~/Library/Application Support/Mobile Sync/Backup/123ljasdf=0b9u from Nov18 and restore that, overwriting the existing "Backup" folder and rebooted iTunes, and then in Devices, Restore from back ups it showed the last one as dated Nov 18... I restore and bingo! All my contacts are back... Whew!
    Thank you!

  • Your mobile gallery has no shared albums

    Hi,
I have an Iphone and a mobileme account.
When I try to send my photos to mobileme account, I got the following error :
"Publish an album using iphoto 08 and select "Adding of photos via email""
I logged in my me.com and then create a new album, select the box "Adding photos by email or iphone" then clicked publish.
After doing that,I go on my iphone and select "send to mobileme" option. After one or 2 seconds, I got the message described earlier "Publish an album using iphoto 08 and select "Adding of photos via email""
My Mail settings on the iphone are set to use my email-me address.
I've read a few threads with that kind of problems but never managed to get a solution to it. What's going on ?? any tricks ?
    Thanks !

I had the same problem and got it solved this morning!!!
I was directed to go to iPhoto '08, create an album, share and then upload via iPhone, but I always got the error you mention.
This morning, I deleted the album in iPhoto and disabled MobileMe (within iPhoto).
I then went to my MobileMe account via the web site, logged in, selected my Gallery and deleted any albums created from iPhoto.
I then clicked the plus sign "+" to create and add a new album. I called it "iPhone" and checked the option that allows uploading from email and iPhone.
Tested an uploading from iPhone and it worked!! It found my new folder, and uploaded fine.
Now when I next launched iPhoto, the album I created gets imported and synced. Very odd!
I can only assume that iPhoto doesn't create the settings the iPhone is expecting.
    Hope that may help...
