Disable need for password to move files
My mac mini running 10.5.8 requires a password to login. Once logged in I am required to enter my password everytime I want to move a file. Is there a way to disable this requirement while still requiring a password to login? If so, how?
Thanks
It's everything in my home folder. I already have both read and write permission on the whole user account. Iselected my home folder, then selected get info. I see my short name, followed by (me). Under privilages it says read and write. For example, if I have a folder on my desktop and want to move it into my documents folder I am required to enter my password to authenticate. I have both read and write permissions on both folders already. What am I missing?

Best settings for highest quality for exporting a .mov file to h.264
Hi,
I want to know what the best settings are for the highest quality for exporting a .mov file (720p50) to h.264. I want the same quality as the original.
I want to know the data rate etc.
regards,
Jeroen
Message was edited by: Woudgraaf-AVThere is no way to get the exact same quality when transcoding from an editing source to a highly compressed H.264 QT. However, you can get a real high quality by adjusting the data rate.
However, these things depend on the length of the original. I routinely encode H.264s with good results in the 3000-5000 data rate range. I also make sure that I use multiple pass encoding. Take a short snippet of your project (10 seconds or so), and try various bit rates until you have one you like that doesn't take forever.

Script to disable Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Hi, I am trying to find a way of using a batch file or vbscript to disable Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks on a Network Interface Controller.
I've done some searching on the internet and I can see some suggestions to locate the Setting ID of the NIC and then remove the value from the "Bind" string under "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Linkage" and "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Linkage"
I tried this but it didn't seem to uncheck itself from the NIC properties under NCPA.cpl
Can someone help me?http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/b0407073-07bc-462b-9de9-7295be5fa183/disable-file-and-printer-sharing-for-mircorosoft-networks?forum=csharpgeneral

Best practice for exporting a .mov file for YouTube
I am using FCPX 10.0.9 with a MacBook Pro. We are needing to upload relatively small-size high school football videos as .mov files to YouTube for my newspaper. I have been choosing the Export File option with the setting set to h.264, exporting the file to the desktop and then uploading that .mov file to YouTube. (I do not have Compressor installed on this Mac.) The other night the first of three files done like this uploaded fine, but the next two just kept processing and processing at YouTube and never finished. The following morning the files processed fine. Any thoughts about why ths might be happening?
And would it be better to export in another file format --.mp4 files -- instead that might cause less of a problem and which of the export options would be best?
Thanks,

Am I correctly uploading a .mov file to YouTube by using the Export File command with the export setting set to .h264 then if I wish a reasonable size file for upload?
Sure. There are many ways to get videos to YT and yours is a reasonable approach.
"Reasonable size" should be thought of in terms of upload time. Again, YT will re-compress whatever you give it. So depending on how quickly you need to get it up on the Web, it's better to upload files that have more information than less information. (To that end, some folks upload very large Pro Res files; they also have a lot of patience.)
Just to let you know, the majority of FCPX users follow one of two workflows:
1) Share>You Tube option and have FCP handle the uploading;
2) Export as a Pro Res Master File; bring the master file into Compressor and apply the user's custom settings; upload using YT's uploader.
FWIW, I prefer the second workflow.

Need a script to move files to folders
Hi guys. I have found a lot of similar threads but not something exactly like what I need.
I have a ton of files that need to be sorted into folders of the same name. I found scripts to help me with that however, I have some variations on the files with an extension to the file name that also need to be moved into the same folders.
For instance, I have a folder named....
spiegal_case_25_video_3
and I have the following files that all need to be moved into that folder....
spiegal_case_25_video_3.mp4
spiegal_case_25_video_3.webmsd.webm
spiegal_case_25_video_3_h.flv
spiegal_case_25_video_3_m.flv
spiegal_case_25_video_3_l.flv
I have found scripts to get me part of the way there but I can't get the FLVs into the folders because of the _h _m and _l extensions on the file names. Is there a way to move these files into their appropriate folders (maybe by ignoring the last 2 characters in the file name?)
I have also found a script that will read everything up to the underscore, but that won't help since the file names have multiple underscores. So I really need a script that can do the sorting while ignoring the last 2 characters in the file name.
Can anyone help me out? I'm not very script savvy.
Thanks!I've tested the following script (under OS X 10.8.5) with 4 subfolders and 20 files, all located in a folder called "Master folder" located in a USB flash drive named "EXT_DRIVE". It seems to work flawlessly. In its present state, the script will replace any file already located in any of the subfolders.
set theMasterFolder to POSIX file "/Volumes/EXT_DRIVE/Master folder"
tell application "Finder"
activate
set theFolders to (folders of folder theMasterFolder) as alias list
repeat with thisFolder in theFolders
set thisName to name of thisFolder
move (files of folder theMasterFolder whose name begins with thisName) to thisFolder with replacing
end repeat
end tell -
REQUEST: Support for password-protected PDF files and SD-card installation
I would like to request for the features in the topic.
The current version can't open password-protected files hence I still need to download them on a PC before viewing them.
SD-card install is necessary for some devices running on Froyo as they don't have a lot of internal memory.
Thanks in advance.Hi AndrewSV,
I am sorry to hear that you are having problems opening password-protected PDF files, and that the users are being prompted for a password, which shouldn't be required for Viewing and Printing the file.
I have opened up a [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=900822 bug for this issue], and our engineers and volunteers will be able to investigate this issue.
Yes, please attach the write-protected PDF as an example, so that they can see what's happening.
Thank you for your help! =)

Need to split Quicktime movie files
Hi Group!
I have a bunch of movie files (MPEG4) that I need to split.
I'm thinking a workflow like this:
- open movie in qt pro
- create out-point at the 65 minute mark
- cut it
- create new movie
- paste it
- rename it to oldname_"Part1"
- save it
- close it without saving
- rename remaining file to oldname_"Part2"
- save it
- close it without saving
So far I have the split/cut/paste part working, but I can't figure
out how to name a open movie file in Quicktime.
(I'm new to all this, as you can tell, and the Library in the Script Editor
for the Quicktime components did not really explain a lot to me).
Any help appreciated!
Thanks!Try something like this…
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">set save_folder to path to movies folder as Unicode text
tell application "QuickTime Player"
set my_movie to the front movie
set my_file to save_folder & my suffixwith_extension(mymovie's name, "_Part2")
save my_movie in my_file -- use for a reference to the original
-- save self contained my_movie in my_file -- use for a portable file
end tell
to suffixwith_extension(filename, suffix)
if file_name contains "." then
tell (a reference to AppleScript's text item delimiters)
set {tid, contents} to {contents, "."}
set file_name to file_name's text items
tell (a reference to file_name's item -2) to set contents to contents & suffix
set {file_name, contents} to {file_name as Unicode text, tid}
end tell
else
set file_name to file_name & suffix
end if
return file_name
end suffixwithextension</pre> -
Best MPEG Streamclip settings for exporting a .mov file? Please help!
Am really stuck... I have a 1.6GB VOB file (which also exists in copy as a 2GB and a 1GB .mov file). I need to make a quicktime copy of the movie to upload online, but the maximum limit is 500MB. Because it's for a contact for a film festival, it needs to be as high quality as humanly possible, but has to be sent online. What precise settings should I use? I'm in the UK. Can anyone help me? Would be seriously grateful.
We don't care how big the original is; it is the length that matters. Take your limit of 500MB and multiply by 1024 to get megabits. Divide that number by the length in seconds of your movie. That is your bitrate in megabits per second. Duplicate one of the best-quality presets and change the bitrate. Make sure all the high quality options are on.

Deperate Need for Help - Streaming Movie
Good Day,
I recently purchased the full version of Quicktime to create streaming movies from an http website. I have been fighting with it for a week trying hinted streaming, Fast track...etc etc. I cannot seem to get this to work. I am uploading the video to a website and it insists on downloading the entire movie before displaying it. I have had many people try and get the same result. I assume it isn't a problem to upload to an http://www.whatever.com/movies/movie.mov and have it stream. Does anyone know how i could get this to work properly?
thank youExport to .mov and check the box for Fast Start. No need to add hint tracks because your files are not served from streaming server software. They download via http.
I'll bet (since you didn't provide a link) that your page code is wrong. I'll bet you're directly linking to your .mov files instead of using the proper page code to call the QuickTime plug-in and turn on ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer.

Keeps asking for password when deleting file ?
I updated to Mac OS Lion and now every time I delete any file it asks me for my password. Any file - be it on the Desktop, in the Downloads folder or in any other place. It asks me for my password every time.
That behaviour is annoying. Is it the new default? Or there is something wrong?
Thanks1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/.Trash
2. Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Show Info
from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
3. The dialog should show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section. If that's not what it shows, click the padlock icon in the lower right corner of the window and enter your password when prompted. Use the plus- and minus-sign buttons to give yourself Read & Write access and "everyone" No Access. Delete any other entries in the access list.
4. In the General section, uncheck the box marked Locked if it's checked.
5. From the action menu (gear icon) at the bottom of the dialog, select Apply to enclosed items and confirm.
6. Close the Info window and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above. -

Ipod mini looking for "IE Temp movie file"
Anyone have an idea out of this problem. Everytime I go to update songs it says that it needs a "temp movie file" to play movie. I dn't have any movies on my ipod. That wouldn't be such a problem, but it locks up my POD.
As posted elsewhere, the problem was an old .wav file.

I am working on a really important project and am trying to import my .mov files however, the program tells me the files are unsupported by CS6. How can I convert these files to something usable? Am I trying to import them incorrectly? Please help!
Welcome to the forum.
What CODEC is inside those MOV files?
What OS are you on?
If Windows, do you have Apple's QT Pro (US $39 upgrade/unlock)? If so, then you can use it to Export to several formats/CODEC's, that PrPro can use.
Good luck,

HT201302 I cannot transfer photos from my Iphone to mac -need for password I`ve never had
it always worked perfectly on Iphoto, but now it says I need a password on my Iphone - I`ve never had such a password! Iphoto says it cannot import any picture unless I unblock my Iphone with the password. I don`t even know where this password should be. None of the photo applications on Iphone says it has a password

I NEED HELP CONVERTING A MOVIE FILE INTO A DVD
So this is my problem.
I have FCE and made a movie. Now, after i rendered it and used iDVD to make a DVD, it works and everything, BUT when i play back the DVD on any DVD player, the picture is not that great and at points looks like a bad TV reception.
I have a SONY handycam and this is what i used to captured the footage so i dont know if i need a HD camcorder. So my question is how do i make my DVD's look smooth??? does it have to do with the way i am rendering the movie, saving it, capturing it????Please let me know. Thank youWhen you have finished editing in FCE this is the setting you MUST use:-
File>Export>QuickTime Movie. (For speed, deselect the "Make Movie Self-contained" box).
You must NOT use QuickTime CONVERSION.
The QT Movie is then dragged into iDVD etc.
This will produce good quality DVDs.
If you get jitter you may have to apply FCE's De-interlace Filter.
