Disable Network viewing/access

Hi All...
I have my server up and running (thanks to all that helped!)...
I'm having difficulty restricting my student group from being able to view other devices on the network. I was able to configure the finder preferences so devices weren't displayed and was able to get rid of the "GO"- "connect to server" option but they can still select "network" from the "GO" menu and all the other devices pop up!
Any ideas?
Thanks again for all the terrific guidance that's out there!

Hello Mr. Hoffman and thanks for the reply...I just realized I responded to a different question I had!
My apologies (here is the other question)
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2234547&tstart=0
But regarding the disabling of the sidebar:
I certainly appreciate the damage that could be done by allowing students to access network devices...one of the problems is that teachers will be using the same machines and will need to access said devices.
Would placing the 10 (ten) lab machines on their own network still allow the teachers to access the devices? Seems like the same situation...
I'm thinking there must be a way throught he server settings that could accomplish this...
anyway, thanks for the suggestions!
(here's what I wrote in response to the other question I had)
Everything had been working just fine...I was able to use the server machine to access the internet just yesterday...this morning...not able to.
We are behind a router which is handing out DHCP...the server has a static ip and is handling DNS...we're all on the same network...our wireless is secured...surely this must have something to do with the server's settings (something I changed inadvertently)?
the server's network settings has the routers correct address and the DNS Server section has the server's static IP along with the two ISP DNS addresses (68.87.72.134, 68.87.77.134) and the search domain is our FQDN...
So I think we are already doing what you suggested in your reply?
Thanks!
In the network preferences on the actual server under the proxies setting there are no protocols to configure that are checked and in the "Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains:" box is:
"*.local, 169.254/16"

  • How to disable create view options

Is there a way to disable Create view --> "access view" and/or customize in "sharepoint designer" options (since they would need a client integration) from users without writing a code. eg. from settings ?

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, The Create view
option appears because Contribute permission level includes the "Manage personal views" permission. Remove that permission and the Create View option will go away.
For more information about disabling create view, check the following articles:

  • Disable phone Web access ..

    Hi,
we are using UC560 for IP Telephony system and i received complain from end users about that any user know the IP address of IP phone he can access it through the web and view all call history  as dialed calls or received calls.
so i need to disable phone web access to protect end user privacy .
    kindly advice .
    Moe

    Hello Moe,
Just to add to what John said there is a technical mistake to stop the web access to the phone you need to enter the following on the UC:
    Telephony-service
    Service phone webAccess 1
    Create cnf-files
For SPA phones you may try the following:
    Cisco SPA303, Cisco SPA500 Series
To allow or disallow from the phone viewing of the phone web user interface:
    STEP 1 Press the Setupbutton.
STEP 2 To display the Web Server Writable option either:
    • Select Network> Enable Web Server.
    • Select Settings> Security Configuration> Web Access Enabled.
NOTE This option is available in SPCP mode only.
STEP 3 Press Edit to change the status of the Web Access Enabled parameter.
If the option to edit the parameter is not displayed, press **#to display the option.
If the edit option still does not display,it might be set by your phone system
administrator such that you cannot modify this parameter.
STEP 4 Press Y/ N to toggle the parameter and press ok to set the parameter.
STEP 5 To save your change, press save.

  • Can't see a server in Finder's Network view

    Hi,
In the Network view of the Finder, my G4 (10.4.3) on the LAN can see my eMac (10.4.4), also on the LAN. My PowerBook (10.4.4, wireless) can see the G4, but cannot see the eMac. I can, however, connect to the eMac from the PB by entering the IP address directly in the Connect to Server dialog. Any reason this might be?
I can see the PB from the eMac.
On both the G4 and the eMac I have to go via the Network > My Network icon to see available servers. On the PB, I have no My Network icon - the G4 appears as soon as I click on Network.
Is it likely to be a wireless problem, or a preferences problem, or a 10.4.4 problem? I've had problems similar to this before which were fixed by switching various options in the Directory Access utility. No joy this time.
I can supply more details if required (I'll save space for now!). It's not a simple network...

Sorry, just as an addedum, I can connect through a hard connection, but I can't access Screen Sharing

    Hi,
    >>How to prevent users see computers on network, how disable network discovery completely?
We can try the following solution to see if it helps.
In a new or existing GPO:
    1. On Computer configuration, choose Policies, choose Security Settings, choose Windows Firewall with Advanced Security.
    2. On Windows Firewall with Advance Settings, choose Inbound Rules, right click and choose New Rule
    3. On Rule Type, select Predefined and choose Network Discovery, choose Next
    4. Choose only the following rules:
    a. Network Discovery (LLMNR-UDP-In)
    b. Network Discovery (NP-Name-In)
    c. Network Discovery (Pub-WSD-In)
    d. Network Discovery (SSDP-In)
    5. On Action choose Block the connection
    6. Press Finish
    7. On Inbound Rules, right click and choose New Rule, select Next
    8. Choose only the following Rule:

    d. Network Discovery (SSDP Out)
    14. On Action choose Block the connection
    15. Press Finish
    16. On Outbound Rules, right click and choose New Rule, select Next
    17. Choose only the following Rule:
    a. Network Discovery (NB-Datagram Out
    18. On Action choose Allow the connection
    19. Press Finish
    20. On Computer configuration, choose Policies, choose Security Settings, choose System Services
    21. Choose Computer Browser Service
    22. Select Define this policy setting
    23. Choose Disabled, choose Apply and Ok.
    24. Repeat steps (21-23) for the following services:
    a. SSDP Discovery
    b. UPnP Device Host
    c. Function Discovery Resource Publication
    d. Function Discovery Provider host
    e. Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper
After configuring the GPO, link this GPO to our target OU, and we can run gpupdate/force to immediately update group policy.

  • Disabling Networked Printer Web Interfaces

    Hello,
I did a search with my novice search skills and didn't find exactly what related to my issue. I have multiple virtual print servers on Win08 R2 with networked printers from different manufacturers.  Is there a way other than going to each printer to
disable web interface access via host name or IP?  I'm thinking possibly via GP.
    Thanks

Since the Web interface is a device feature and has nothing to do with Windows, that's something you need to configure at the device level.

  • Unable to disable Network Monitor in Flash Builder 4 Standard

For some reason the Network Monitor is enabled for my Flash Builder project. Perhaps it was enabled when I was running the FB4 Beta 2 version. Now I need to disable the Network Monitor, but of course, since I'm using FB4 Standard the Network Monitor view says I need to purchase FB4 Premium.
All my app traffic is redirecting to localhost:37813 so I know the network monitor is still enabled. Can anyone tell me how to disable Network Monitor in FB4 Standard?
    Thanks,
    David

    Thierry,
I finally figured it out. In Flash Builder close your project. Then in the file system go and directly edit the .actionScriptProperties file. In the main <actionScriptProperties tag edit the includeNetmonSwc="true" flag to be includeNetmonSwc="false" instead. That will stop including the network monitor library in your code and should turn monitoring off.
That setting is controlled by the network monitor tab, but that tab is only visible with the premium version of Flash Builder so it seems once your trial version times out you can never disable it via the GUI, just via the .actionScriptProperties file.
Now reopen your project after saving the changes to .actionScriptProperties and you should be good to go.

  • How can we disable the OSX Access Point functionality without disabling all wifi.

Curious if anyone knows a way in Lion/Mountain Lion to disable the OSX access point features.
i have about 50+ macs in our company for iOS development. lately we've had a lot of rogue AP's showing up, people bridging the internal network by activating the "become a hotspot" feature in OSX. this is a *GREAT* feature, don't get me wrong. especially the latency and ease of use.. but in our case its causing problems, and i'm looking at a way to disable the AP features without disabling ALL wifi with something like.
    /usr/sbin/networksetup -setairportpower en1 off
this is a bit too much ,it disables the entire airport/wifi. we want to only disable the access point capabilities.
any hardcore guru's out there have some advise?
    TIA!

Enabling sharing services requires administrative access, so one option is to set this and only give folks standard "managed" access. The Internet Sharing service is a process called "InternetSharing" that runs as the root user and establishes all the appropriate services for the needed connection. You could technically remove or even rename this process on systems to prevent it from being used, or remove or disable its launch daemon. These files are in the following directories:
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.InternetSharing.plist
    /usr/libexec/InternetSharing

  • Disable mobile view

    Hi everyone,
I disable the feature Mobile View on my site collection I can access the website with the standard view. However, If I try copy and past a link from some Document Library, the url gets redirect to the mobile view. Can some one give a suggestion how to fix
    this?
    Thanks
    flavio

    Hi bbbgy,
How did you mean ‘I disable the feature Mobile View on my site collection’ ? Whether you meaned that you disabled the feature at all sites in the site collection by OOB.
After disabling the feature at site level, please make sure mobile view is disabled at library or list level, you can do as Library/List Settings->Views->selecting the view that you used, on the Mobile section, unselect ‘Enable this view for mobile
access’ and ‘Make this view the default view for mobile access’. When you copy the URL of the library or list, please check whether the URL contains ‘…/mobile/viewa.aspx…’.
In addition, after disabling Mobile view feature, please clear the browsing history, then compare the result.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Stopping Help Viewer accessing the internet

    Hi,
I'd like to stop the Help Viewer accessing the internet as I occasionally hit network glitches and the help viewer then hangs waiting on the network so that I can't use it.
Can anyone suggest how I do this?
    Many thanks,
    Jens

Try use an app like LittleSnitch
    from the website:
Little Snitch informs you whenever a program attempts to establish an outgoing Internet connection. You can then choose to allow or deny this connection, or define a rule how to handle similar, future connection attempts.

  • Disable Direct File Access for owa

    Hi
How can i exclude some users from disable Direct File Access on my OWA
    Thanks
MCP MCSA MCSE MCT MCTS CCNA

    No problem Yasser.
Once you have created a policy with the settings you require you can apply it to a user (or multiple users) by using either the ECP or using the shell:
In ECP there are 2 ways:
    1. Select the mailbox (or mailboxes) then select "View Details" under "Email Connectivity". This will open a dialog allowing you to apply the relavant owa policy.
    2. Edit the mailbox and navigate to "Mailbox Features". Then select "View Details" under "Email Connectivity". This will open a dialog allowing you to apply the relavant owa policy.
    In Shell:
    Set-CASMailbox -Identity <email address> -OwaMailboxPolicy:<owa policy name>
If you need to do multiple mailboxes using the shell you can pipe it through a Get-CASMailbox command.

  • How do I configure Guest network to access ethernet wired printer?

I have a wired/wireless network with a new dual band AEBS. The AEBS is connected to a Cisco router, which in turn sends it's connections to various wall-plates in our home. One HP 4110 printer is wired via it's ethernet port, one Mac Mini (OS 10.6.2) is hard wired also. The dual band AEBS 5 GHz network is used for our newer laptops, and the 2.4 GHz network is used for a G3 Firewire PowerBook (now don't make fun... it was the best there was at one time) running OS 10.4.11.
The PowerBook cannot access the printer that is hard wired via ethernet cable to the network. How do I get the PowerBook on the "Guest" network to access the printer?
I tried searching these discussions, but can't find an answer to my specific issue. Any help is appreciated.

Since you have a simultaneous dual-band AEBS, why not connect your PowerBook G3 to the non-Guest 2.4 GHz network created?
Can I take an AEBS that is a couple of years older (I have a couple of the flying saucers around here somewhere), wire that to an available ethernet port on the LAN, and then connect the older PowerBook G3 to that older AEBS wirelessly?
    Sure
If so, will that arrangement slow down the entire system?
    No
If that won't work, and I connect the PowerBook G3 directly to an ethernet port, will that slow down the other wireless computers?
Yes you can connect your PowerBook G3 via Ethernet. That would have no effect on the wireless computers.

  • Is there a way to disable previously viewed iMessages from appearing as Messages notifications when waking my MacBook Pro from sleep?

Is there a way to disable previously viewed iMessages from appearing as Messages notifications when waking my MacBook Pro from sleep?  Regardless of whether I am using iMessage from  my iPhone or iPad, when I open my MBP, I get attacked by Messages notifications for iMessages I've obviously already seen or responded to.  Is there a way to change this?  Are others having this issue?
Additionally,  previous iMessages sent or received from those  devices sometimes don't populate into the Messages window on the MBP.  I haven't been able to identify when or what causes this; sometimes it just doesn't seem to work (and I verified that the messages sent/received were, in fact, iMessages and not SMS).
Thanks - any help or insight would be appreciated!

First you need to determine what laptop model you have; then we can help you. A Mac Book Pro cannot run OS 9.1.
With your Mac booted up, click on the  at the far left of the menu. Then click on About This Mac. It will show what version of OS  you are running. What is the version?
A MBP will be running something like version 10.x.
If you are running version OS 9.x, you don't have a Mac Book Pro.
     Cheers, Tom

  • HOW TO DISABLE THE VIEW OF CONTACT

    Hi
I want to know how to disable contact view from a friend taking my phone
exemple : If I give my cell phone blackberry 9900 to a friend for 1 day, I want for him the possibility to answer phone call and see who is calling him ! ,
buy I want to disable any search in full contact list
    how to do this ?
    help,
    mail me back

You cannot selectively lock the address book app. If all contacts are sync'd online you can delete the account. However, the all around better approach would be to backup the device and do a security wipe before loaning it.
