Disable on screen keyboard?

If it were up to the user then there is a way to turn it off. I found this discussion because even with a physical keyboard attached (type keyboard) that dang thing pops up all the time when browsing web pages. Extremely annoying and no it doesnt go
away on its own. We need additional configuration options to directly CONTROL it as a user regardless if the mouse set to jump to the next click spot (because the touch pad is combersome and not as responsive to some people) automatically activates the
keyboard in draw mode, where it should be an option to turn it off. Maybe its there, but if it, then is it is very difficult to find.
How about allow the open the keyboard when they want it like with a hotkey (a hot key solves the problem if not in desktop mode).
Issue with the touch panel for the mouse is related when browsing and you have the mouse set to jump to the net most logical click spot (because moving the mouse using the touch pad is not as simple as a mouse and is not as responsive as it could be especially
when Windows thinks you moved the mouse starting from the far right or left) when you see something on the webpage (like a typical menu at the top of ebay for advanced searching or to click in the search box for example) that you want to click on and put your
finger on the touch pad and begin to move the mouse toward the middle of the screen (depending on if you started from the left or the right side) it thinks you just intended to open a control panel from the right or the task switcher from the left when in
fact the mouse was never that far from the side of the screen and all kinds of popups happen automatically when you finally get the mouse to the spot you want it, including the keyboard and side panels are making it annoying to use a surface from typical casual
web browsing. Pr4ess the option with you finger on the screen and at first it doesnt realize you are trying to click somewhere, so you start to get trained to use the mouse that is if you can find the proper way that doesnt create a ton more things to
happen which you never intended.

The touch keyboard will open when you touch a text control. It shouldn't open automatically otherwise. If you're seeing otherwise you may have something wrong with your system. Normally touch pads provide mouse input and not touch input and so shouldn't
trigger the input panel, but I believe there are some 3rd party or OEM implementations which bypass Windows's touchpad code and could give the behavior you describe.

How to disable dangerous options in on screen keyboard in kiosk mode?

Hello,
I'm trying to make a kiosk like application based on Windows 7. I run locked down IE in kiosk mode and that's quite OK.
However when I run the OSK.exe (on screen keyboard) - it has two dangerous buttons: Options (where I can click on "Control whether the On-Screen Keyboard starts when I log on" link and then run Windows explorer, and Help (where I can go to Options, and then
click on "Read the privacy statement online" link that brings me fresh IE).
Is there way to disable in OSK those two buttons?
For instance, when I run OSK on logon screen it hides the Help button and the dangerous link in the Options button, so it's possible at least for MS. Is it possible for plain customers?

Based on my test and research, I’m afraid that the two options of On-screen Keyboard may not be disabled.
Instead, you can use
Tablet PC Input Panel and see how it works.

Yoga 13 - On-screen Keyboard Randomly Popping Up When Using Physical Keyboard?

While in laptop mode, and typing on the built-in physical keyboard or a keyboard attached via USB, the on-screen keyboard will randomly pop up, taking away focus (particularly noticeable when using extended desktop on an external display) and eating up half of the screen real estate. As soon as I press the next key on the physical board, the on-screen keyboard minimizes itself. Sometimes it will pop up when I'm not even touching the laptop!
Anyone else experience this and/or know how to stop it? It's the only thing about this machine that drives me absolutely nuts. It seems to be random. I can't pin it down and haven't found any similar reports via Google search.

Disabling "OnScreen Keyboard (Lenovo Transition)" stopped it. The solution is good enough for me, as I don't need the keyboard to pop up on its own anyway. It'll pop up when I tap in a text-entry box, and that's all that matters.
Attempts to calibrate the screen were unsucecssful. I can't say whether or not a screen calibration will stop the random pop-up issue because every time I calibrated the screen, it broke the right-side screen swipe that reveals the Charms Menu. Resetting the screen calibration was the only way I could find to restore the right-side swipe function. This is quite unfortunate because, regardless of the fact that it broke my Charms swipe, my touchpoints were FAR more accurate after the calibration than before.
So now I have another problem. I can't calibrate my screen for optimum accuracy without losing the convenience of the right-side swipe.
Any ideas?

On Screen Keyboard for Windows 8

Is there a way to keep the onscreen keyboard from opening automatically? When I am on my tablet with an external keyboard and am using Word 2013, every time I scroll through or click on the document, the on screen keyboard comes up. It was easy to disable
in Windows 7, but I cannot figure out how to disable it in Windows 8.

That works, if you consider a manual solution:
1) Starting and stoping the Win8 virtual keyboard, and only the keyboard:
I put two commands into two batch-files:
"net start TabletInputService"
"net stop TabletInputService"
2) Creating Shortcuts
I created two shortcuts and attached them to the taskbar
3) Playing tricks on the UAC
Now you are stuck with the UAC. You can create an elevated task in the task scheduler and call that, but its complicated. I personally used a software to create an "elevated shortcut" in step two. There are some out there, e.g. "Elevated Shortcut".
But of course you would have to trust such a program. :-( I do. ;-|
This is not cool, but it works.
Problably you can check the service's state and create a batch file toggling it. So there would be only on shortcut left. I did not try that, instead i wrapped that in a little C#-Programm.
Well, might be for my vaio duo 11, Sony itself should have provided such a program, because it is their keyboard. Microsoft did so for theirs' on the surface, as I mentioned above. Actually I don't know if there is a standard API to check if an
perferred keyboard is in typing position.

On Screen Keyboard

I have searched high and low for a fix for this that works, but have yet to find anything.
I have a Gateway laptop running Win8.1. As it is a laptop, I have absolutely no need for the on screen keyboard. However, there is no way that I have found to turn it off. It is bulky, obtrusive, and gets in the way. On a tablet or a Surface, I can see how
it would be useful, but again, I have a laptop. It's just taking up space. There should be a setting to turn it off when it is not needed.
I have found the same couple fixes listed everywhere that have supposedly worked for others and tried them, but nothing has worked. They included disabling the on screen keyboard in the ease of access center (even though it was already disabled), and opening
Services, finding Touch Screen Keyboard and Handwriting, and telling it to stop. I even changed it to a manual start-up instead of automatic, but it didn't work, no matter how many times I switched it over, hit Apply first instead of just Ok, or rebooted after
switching.
Is there any way that I could just get rid of it entirely, since I apparently can't just tell it to stop popping up? I have no need for it and would rather just be rid of it entirely if I can't hide it. An uninstall would be preferred, but if there is at
least a way to hide it for good, then that would be incredibly helpful.

Presuming you are using just a laptop without a touch screen interface, you’re right – you do not need access to the on screen keyboard nor should it be popping up. If your laptop includes a touch screen interface then we have a bit more troubleshooting
to do. For the next paragraph of this response I am going with the assumption you are using a standard laptop, without any touch features.
There should be an icon in the bottom right hand corner that is shaped like a keyboard if you click it then the keyboard should disappear and reappear on each subsequent click. If the icon is not present, you can add it by right clicking on your taskbar,
selecting properties, then selecting the toolbars tab and checking the touch keyboard box. One thing that is important to note though is that if the touch screen keyboard shows on the screen, it should automatically disappear. Since the automatic disappearing
feature does not sound as though it is the case with your scenario then I am wondering if you have a corrupt install of Windows 8.1 on your system. It might be best to attempt a repair install or, on a worst case scenario basis, a clean install.
Now, if you do have a touch screen laptop and are referring to the keyboard that pops up in the Windows Modern UI apps then that’s an entirely different answer. While there isn’t a specific or documented method for turning the on-screen touch keyboard entirely,
there is a way to
effectively disable the keyboard by stopping the service that controls it.
Press the Windows key + W
Type "services," and press Enter
Scroll down to "Touch screen keyboard and handwriting panel"
You can either right click and "Stop" or you can double-click and change it from "Automatic" startup to "Manual."
"This will of course, disable both the touch keyboard and handwriting service, so you'll lose handwriting recognition. This was totally worth it to me and has made my touch screen laptop experience much better, especially when I'm using the Full Screen
Browser. I hope this helps!"

InDesign does not react on on-screen Keyboard (Shift-Key) of MAC OS X

Hello everybody,
I want to use the on-screen keyboard of Mac OS 10.9.2 for working with InDesign CS6.
(We're working with physically disabled persons who're able to work with a mouse only)
Apparently holding the Shift-key of the on-screen keyboard doesn't have any effect to InDesign
(for aligning straight or scaling proportional etc.)
Is there any adjustment I can make or is this some kind of problem with InDesign?

How to disable iMac screen and not to put it into sleep?!!!

I would like to play a movie on my iMac but to watch it on my LCD TV. How to disable iMac screen and not to put it into sleep. PLS have in mind that ctrl+shift+ eject does not work, it makes my iMac screen go black as well as the tv screen.So far, i have red many articles concerning this subject, but no one seems to have the right answer. I simply can´t believe that apple did not think of it, as it is nothing new ....

I have been talking to the people over at macforums and they had some good thoughts. One guy suggested going analog and soldering in a rocker switch on the cable connecting a hub to the computer, turn off switch turns off keyboard and mouse.
I was prepared to try that but a great idea came along. Arch, you might be interested in this too. Buy a cheap (found one locally for $20) usb kvm switch that takes one usb keyboard and mouse and connects it to two pcs/macs and only connect one of the outs to my system. There is a button to switch between the two, so when I want to disable the keyboard and mouse, I just switch it to pc2, which is not connected to anything.
Cheap and easy solution. I wish I could of figured out how to do this with software, since there would be no money if it was freeware, but I guess you cant win them all.

Then, we can apply the registry setting through a startup script via group policy, or if our domain controllers is Windows Server 2008 or above, we can utilize Group Policy
Preferences Registry extension to deploy the registry setting.

Win2008r2 RDS farm with "Remote Session Environment" set, Need on screen keyboard as well.

Are you familiar with Ink on mac os x?
Normally one needs to have a tablet or device that supports Ink to use all the features such as hand writing recognition and such, but
one can enable parts of it without the proper device.
Anyway, if Ink is not shown in the system preferences, you can go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras and double click on Ink.menu
That puts the Ink icon on the Menu Bar where you can access the Ink preferences from the drop-down menu and then turn Ink on and Show Ink Window
The small window has symbols for the Cmd, Shift, Option and Control keys and then one can press, for example, the Option symbol and set the clone source point in photoshop.
Don't know whether it will work for your students, but thought it was worth a mention.

I have written a web application where people want to use tablets like the iPad. The application allows for touch screen entering of data and I've also over-rode many of the keyboard keys in order to use certain functionality, ike advancing down a table by hitting the <enter> key etc.
The keyboard on the tablets interfere so this is one reason where the keyboard can be disabled.

On Screen Keyboard Glitch in Tablet Mode - On Screen Keyboard minimizes / disappears / slides down

New Yoga owner here ( just bought it yesterday) and within minutes of setting the computer up I noticed that the on screen keyboard was malfunctioning when the yoga is in tablet mode. Specifically, it pops up for about a second and then, without me touching or clicking or doing anything, it quickly slides back down. repeated attempts to bring up the keyboard end up, frustratingly, with the same result. what is perplexing to me is the on screen keyboard works fine in laptop mode (when I need it least).
Someone else already started a post on this BUT it was marked as 'solved' (which it wasn't) so I figured I'd start new thread. The solution on the previous thread was to simply 'refresh' windows to get rid of any new drivers that were downloaded since purchasing the yoga, but I did not download or update anything prior to this problem arising (as I said, the problem seemed to occur within a few minutes of turning the machine on for the first time). In any case, I tried the refresh and it did not work so clearly my problem is not that I downloaded an incompatible or faulty driver. Please Help! I love this machine and I'm trying to see past the other flaws I've noticed so far (subtle screen flickering, inconsistent touch sensitivity etc), but this issue is starting to really undermine my confidence in the product quality and, from a productivity standpoint, it is a real deal breaker to not have full tablet functionality.

I had the same problem with the disappearing virtual keyboard within hours of starting to use my new Yoga 13. I read somewhere that it was a problem with an incompatible Synaptics driver, and when I looked in the control panel, it showed that the Synaptics driver had been updated on my Yoga as of the day I bought it. I think somehow by agreeing to automatic updates of the software, the Synaptics driver is updated to an incompatible version. So what I did was I removed the Synaptics driver, using the Windows program uninstaller tool, rebooted, and then found the Synaptics driver at the Lenovo site which is specifically labelled as the Yoga 13 driver. I installed that, and the keyboard is now working fine.

While using bluetooth wireless on iPad, it stalls and the on screen keyboard comes up.

I just bought my iPad 2 about two weeks ago. Before that I was playing around with my parent's iPad first generation.
For both iPads, I have the same problems while using the same wireless keyboard on both of them.
1. While typing, at random times the wireless keyboard stops responding and the on screen keyboard shows up.
2. While typing, also at random times, the wireless keyboard stops responding and the same alphabet that I last typed in would multiply itself until I either press "command + A" and delete or lock my parent's iPad and iPad 2.
3. While typing, my wireless keyboard stops responding, on screen keyboard shows up, I select my on screen keyboard to hide, continued typing on the wireless keyboard, it stops responding again and my iPad2 restarts in a split second with the black backdrop and apple logo in the middle and goes to lock screen. Then everything is fine.
4. While not typing, on screen keyboard shows up at random times while bluetooth is paired to wireless keyboard and then goes back down, all this while bluetooth icon at the top screen of the iPad2 flashes.
I don't know what is wrong. At first I thought my iPad 2 has a problem but when I remembered the same problems occurred on my parent's iPad first generation, I don't know if it is just my keyboard or the iPad(s) have a problem.
Please help me!

If this is only one specific app, it is a problem with that application's programming.
You can try to reset your iPad by holding down both the Home and Lock buttons for approximately 15 seconds or until the device restarts while ignoring the power slider.

Apple Tv (3rd Gen) On screen keyboard US Version/UK Version

I have recently bought the Apple tv from Amazon UK and was supplied with the US version, and I guess the only difference is the power cord ?
What I would like to know is on some of the on screen keyboard down the bottom right you have .com .au etc (Something like that) and if anyone who has a UK model can confirm that this is the same on their one ?
Or on the UKmodel does it have .co.uk .com etc ?
I guess it's the same on all models and the UK version doesn't have a .co.uk only .com etc ?
If someone could confirm this for me please as it would be much appreciated and put my mind at ease.

It sounds like you are not seeing all the options you expect to see to be able to setup your account to view on the Apple TV. First I would restart the Apple TV, just incase it need to refresh the app info:

If you still do not see the option you are looking for, you may need to work with ESPN directly:

Where's the on-screen keyboard?

I'm actually using a Dell Venue 11 Pro tablet, but i'm hoping this is a Windows issue and maybe somebody with a Surface has seen it too..
I've recently discovered that the on-screen keyboard no longer comes up automatically as it should.<o:p></o:p>
Example: Swipe in the corner to bring up the charms. Tap on "search", then tap into the search field. The keyboard *should* come up automatically at that point, right? Nope.
I know I can tap the keyboard from the desktop screen, but want to use it in the Start screen. If you have the keyboard up manually in the desktop screen and then go to the Start screen, the keyboard goes away.
I'm running 8.1 with all the latest patches and updates from Dell and Microsoft. And like I said, this could be specific to Dell, or maybe just the Venue Pro.
Anyone encounter this issue?

put laptop on a pad of some kind.
turn down the volume
use external speakers if your going to 'crank' it out max.
Most laptops dont have the quality speakers to output anything LOUD enough to make the laptop 'dance' from sound vibrations. The Mac however does.
Both a good thing and a 'bad' thing. At least its got it.
