Disable or not install control panel applet

I beleive since 10.3 the control panel applet has been installed by default. Is there a way to install flash but not the applet? or Install flash and have the options within it disabled?
I understand that the mms.cfg overides what is done within the applet but it does lead to some confusion with users when they set something and it doesnt work as we as Admins have disabled it in the MMS.cfg.

in FP 11, mms.cfg settings should be reflected in the UI of the Native Control Panel.  unfortunately, there is a known bug that doesn't reflect admin changes.  it is resolved in an upcoming release, Anza.  please refer to: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=2995088
short story:
mms.cfg files saved as UTF-8 are not reflected in the Native Control Panel
work around:
save mms.cfg as ANSI
resolution:
issue will be resolved in the next flash player release, 11.1 Anza...

  • JRE 6 freeze browsers and Java Control Panel Applet stops working!

    Hello,
this is the second time I got this problem with Java JRE 6 ! First one was a month or two ago:
I have Java JRE 6 update 20 installed on a Windows 7 64bit ultimate. It was working...much time ago...then i found my browser (firefox, google chrome or IE8) was freezing when I open java application or test pages. I tried uninstalling it, cleaning the system with Revo Uninstaller, or CCleaner or JavaRA and reinstalling with no luck. The other problem is the same that user Mass8 had (http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5372196&start=15&tstart=0)
...my java control panel applet is not working and give me this:
    http://www.iouppo.com/lite/pics/df9b61008b5bf9de61a13d8bfa3ddad1.jpg
I tried disabling UAC, running JRE, starting Win7 in safe mode with network...but browser always freeze. It's not a true freeze, with CPU busy at 100% (cpu stays in idle) but it seems to wait for something. It's not a problem with video card driver on my machine, because I can start java control panel from command prompt...and without the noddraw switch, using this command:
    javaw -Xbootclasspath/a:..\lib\deploy.jar -Duser.home="%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%" com.sun.deploy.panel.ControlPanel
This was the description of my first time.....then I replaced my system with an Acronis image...and I used the system for sometimes....and Java was working until 3-4 days ago! So I did another image of the system with all things working.
Then this morning...I tried the java test page.....and surprise! It's not working anymore!
In these days I think I only disabled UAC and Account virtualization....maybe JAVA saves things there...and then when I disabled UAC (Windows7 deleted those folders and files) it can't find there anymore???? Who can help me?
I don't want to restore my image every month!
My system is 100% virus free and from the last image restoration I didn't visit suspicious sites and so on....I have antivirus and antispyware software...all is perfectly CLEAN. Any ideas or things to try?

I'm beginning to think it's something related to Hybernation after using JAVA....I'm using it very often...and if I use it...and I suspect Java is KO...i try control panel and it doesn't works....then I try with browser and it freeze (or keep waiting...and i can only force to close it)
    THEN,
when I reboot my system I get this window
    http://www.iouppo.com/lite/pics/09501eb799c165bb25ece8fd3261e41c.jpg
suggesting me to rename the folder C:\Program in C:\Program1 ...and if i don't rename it...java will never work...instead if I allow it...Windows will fix it!......This until...the next hybernation....:(....
try to replicate this...maybe I found where is the problem..

  • [Request] Move Windows Control Panel applet from "System and Security" to "Programs"

The "Flash Player (32-bit)" Windows Control Panel applet should be  moved from "System and Security" to "Programs" where the Java applet is.

    njb,
Why not just run the ThinkVantage System Update and let it install as usual. You can also "un-check" those drivers that you don't want to install.

  • Java Control Panel applet won't run

I am running Windows 2000 Server and I need to import a certificate into the certificate database. Both the jpicpl32.cpl and jpicpl32.exe fail to run. When I try to execute either of them they launch an instance of javaw.exe (confirmed in the task manager) but the interface never comes up. Java Web Start misbehaves in the same way.
I am using JRE 1.4.2_04 and I have uninstalled and reinstalled it without solving the problem. One possible issue is that the person who did the initial install of the JRE moved the directory to a different drive after the installation was complete. When I discovered this I edited the windows registry and changed all of the pointers to the new location. That did not help and that is when I uninstalled and reinstalled the JRE.
I have found several messages in this forum indicating similar problems with prior versions of the JRE but none of them had any replies (except for some who said they were having the same problem). I have also searched the web but all that I can find is information on how to troubleshoot java applications, not the JRE itself.

I have been working on a project rolling out J2RE1.4.1_02 onto approximately 100 pc's. Half of them are Windows 2000 laptops and the other half use Windows XP sp1 (a few with SP2) Desktops varying in spec. To date I have yet to have this issue on the Windows 2000 laptops. Of the 50 XP machines, so far I have encountered this problem on 20 of them.
I used almost every method described in the forums as well as loads of other options to resolve the hanging of javaw.exe. We havent rolled out the application that requires this JRE version yet and I am only trying to run the Java contol panel to change user settings.
At first I thought it was conflicting software, so I uninstalled package by package. Halfway through, the console worked, but on reboot, did not work again. I eventually figured out that once you install JRE and it does not work, just log off and then on again without rebooting and it starts to work. We cannot give this as a solution to our users. I also edited the registry removing all refrences to any other java files after uninstalling all java related apps. Re-installing after this did not fix it either. I tried to avoid using Javaw.exe by chaning the path in the registry to java.exe, but this did not work either.
Sometimes I could get Java Web Start working, but not the control panel, then when i could get the control panel working, java web start wouldnt work. These 20 machines were part of our original image of XP that was rolled out. The other 30 machines are a slightly newer build but have the same applications. Do you think it could be a way the group policies are applied? They are local policies as we are still building our 2003 servers and I set everything to 'not configured' but it still did not change anything. If I rebuild the image and install all their apps, it works fine. But i would like to avoid rebuilding 20 PC's. I have already rebuilt 10 of them and hate using that as a solution. The group policy settings were initially created by one team and then later a second team created our new image that we use. So it may be just a configuration that the first team have implemented or locked down that the second team did not.
What is strange is that it doesnt run on first boot up, but does run after logging off and on again. Somebody in one of the other forums mentioned that it may have something to do with explorer.exe, but i doubt it. I am exasperated and would appreciate any ideas I have not tried.
    Thanks guys,
    Kerri

  • Bootcamp drivers installed but do not load control panel in XP

I have a 13' Aluminum Macbook (5,1) w/ 2GB ram and 160GB HD. I recently install Windows XP in Bootcamp on a 32GB partition converted to NTFS during install. Once installed I installed the bootcamp drivers from my Leopard DVD that came with the laptop. After the restart the bootcamp drivers and control panel loaded fine. After that, I updated XP (SP3 was included on the CD) to get the current security updates and IE7, etc. I proceeded to install Google Chrome. After my next restart, excluding the two required during windows updates, the control panel and bluetooth control panel do not load. Everything else still works and my mouse still identifies with bluetooth. However I do not have any control over trackpad settings and everything else the bootcamp panel allows you to do. As well my wireless card will not connect to my Airport Express with WPA2.
The wierd thing for me is this is not my first XP install. I did it once before and had no issues whatsoever. I did everything in the same sequence with the same XP CD and key. The only difference is that before the partition was considerably smaller (10GB).
    Any ideas?

My Program (in Vista) is \Program Files\BootCamp\KbdMgr.exe product version 2.1
Press Start icon on left side of task bar, select Run typing msconfig
    brings up system configuration
    a) under Start Up tab, what you need, Boot Camp etc. should be checked
    b) under Services tab, Apple, BTH items should be checked and running. If checked and not running, right click My Computer->Manage->Services and Applications->Services. Here you can right click Apple,BTH services to set properties Auto & Start

  • TCP/IP not in Control Panel

    Hello,
I'm new to MAC so I'm sure this will seem like a silly question. I'm working on setting up 5 machines for internet access. 4 of them have orked great and were easy to configure. The 5th does not have the TCP/IP option in te Control Panel and, I don't know how to get it there. I'm worried about trying to install soemthing without guidance so I figured I'd ask before I made a big mistake. How do I get TCP/IP loaded if it's not there?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

Hi, Daniel, and welcome to Apple Discussions. On the machine that's missing TCP/IP, open the System Folder, then the "Control Panels (Disabled)" folder inside it. Is TCP/IP in there? If so, drag it onto the closed "Control Panels" folder and drop it there. Restart, and you'll find it loaded and ready for use, as it is on the other Macs.
If it isn't there, make a copy of it from one of the other Macs (assuming they all run the same OS version) and put it into the "Control Panels" folder on the Mac that needs it, then restart. The result will be the same.
You'll then need to enter the appropriate settings in it.

  • Need help installing Control panel for Creative Roar speaker!!!

I am trying to download the control panel to my Windows XP PC, or my Windows 8 laptop but when I download the try to install the control panel both my PC & laptop says, Setup unable to detect a supported product on your system. What does that mean?

    hiawa23,
You need to press and hold the PLAY button to activate the sound card feature. You may refer to this article for more information.
You can also do the following if your PC is still unable to detect the speaker as a USB audio device:
    1. Ensure you use the supplied USB cable. It is able to handle both power and data.
    2. Power cycle the speaker (turn off and then turn it on)
    3. Connect the speaker to another USB port and try again.
    4. Do not use any USB hub; ensure the speakers is connected directly to your PC
    5. Try to connect the speakers to another computer and then try again.
If the speaker is still not detected as a USB audio device, perform the following:
    1. Hardware reset: In any state, press and hold the Power button for more than 10 seconds, and then press the Power button again to turn the speakers on.
    2. Master reset: While the speaker is in pairing mode, press and hold the Multifunction and Volume down (-) button together until a voice prompt is heard that 'master reset' is completed.
    Cheers,
    Colin-CL

  • Creating a cover letter from pc, not printer control panel HP Officejet pro 8600 Plus

I used to be able to create cover letters for my faxes directly from HP printer software installed on pc, via desktop shortcut.   I am all up to date on software, drivers, firmware, etc.  It simply disappeared-I had it for about a year.  I called HP, and I was a bit surprised as the tech rep did not know what a cover letter is and its purpose when faxing.  I can only fax from printer control panel and can not format cover letters from there.  Please help!  I need to send cover letters from time to time and that functionality simply disappeared.  I have unistalled and reinstalled software and hardware several times to no avail.

  • Installing Control Panel 2/3 causes problems in opening Excel sheets

After installing the control panel 3.0, I can't open Excel sheets properly anymore. A message says that the Excel sheet contains corrupted data and Excel can try to restore them. After confirming this, the excel sheet shows opened but all formating is gone.
I had this issue yet with Control Panel 2.0. After some research on the web I found out that the problem is caused by the CP for Windows. I then switched back to CP V 1.1.4 and the excel sheets opened properly again.
Thanks for any advise. I'm using Windows 7 and Excel/Outlook 2007.

You are downloading software illegally. ShapeShifter is shareware so unless you indicate that you paid for it I don't feel it is appropriate to post your issue in this forum setting.

  • Cant open any desktop folders or icons, not even control panel. Help!

    Hi,
I really need help desperately. I cant open any desktop folders or icons. I've restored to the earliest point I can but with no difference. Even the Control Panel cant be opened from the Start button. my compuetr freezes everytime I double-click or right-click on "My Computer" or "My Documents" icons.
My restore CD which was supplied with the Toshiba Satellite 1800 doesnt work either. Please help! I'm really desperate!
    Jess

Waht do you mean with "I have tried with the restore CD but nothing"? Have you tried to completely format your HDD? I had a similar problem but in my case it was due to the OS registry...so I reinstalled the system from the beginning and it was ok.
If you cannot solve this problem with the cd supplied by factory...I think it could be an hardware problem due probably to the HDD. Does your HDD make strange sounds, such as "clic-clac"?
    Bye

  • Disable Control Panel for users but NOT for administrators

I'm unsure why Microsoft has not yet published this information.  I'm sure that sysadmins everywhere want more granular control of the control panel besides disabling for everyone or enabling for everyone, which is what it seems Microsoft wants me and
you to do, disable CP for everyone, enable it every time I log on as admin and need to use it, then disable again.  Ridiculous.
I am a consultant for a large company and our partners like to take as much control as possible.  I do too, for that matter.  Last week I began researching how to disable the control panel for everyone except admins.  I am operating under
the assumption that non-admin accounts do not need access to control panel and it's better if they don't, especially in a production environment where the terminals the users are operating are mission critical.
Finally, I found the answer.  I hope this helps you because it took me 3 days to finally find it.  It works.  I've tested it with admin and non-admin.  The great thing is, you can control any GP setting for non-admin users in this manner,
not just the Control Panel.  You could disable any and all functionality not necessary for day to day operations for all your users but still maintain access to everything by logging on as an administrator.
    The question is answered here
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101869-local-group-policies-apply-all-users-except-administrators.html

    Don:
Sorry for the confusion.  Not sure why my link is bad and yours is good.  They both appear to be identical.
The issue with executing gpedit.msc is that when you apply a setting, the setting is for all users, even administrators.  If I want to disable access to the control panel, I do so for admins as well when simply executing gpedit.msc, which means if I
log in and need access to control panel, I have to enable it in GP, do the work necessary and then disable it again (if I remember) when work is complete.  A bit of a drag, especially for busy admins and support techs.  On the other hand, following
the instructions in the link disables control panel for all users except administrators.  So if I need to work with Control Panel as an admin, I've saved the enable, disable steps and don't have to worry about remembering as well.
I hope that clarifies.  Thanks for your feedback.
ok, thanks. I re-read the guide one more time and now I understand the logic - it creates a LocalGPO object, when gpedit.msc is launched in this very special way. It's kind of cool, even if rather niche. (I'm assuming that it only works for LocalGP and not
    for Domain GP).
I think your original link had a trailing dot, but it's fine now.
Thanks for clarifying - even after all these years, I am still learning new things :)
