Disable or Remove the Xfinity Norton antivirus

I use VPN to log onto my company network. My Norton DAT files are up to date. My company now detects that my AV program does not meet their criteria (it worked 2 days ago). A message says I must get Microsoft Security Essentials. When I D/L the Microsoft program and try to install it, it says I must remove all other AV programs.
So my question is, do I need to totally remove all the Norton Suite that Comcast gave me? Can I just temporarity disable Norton?
I realize this is a Norton forum, but what else do I need if I have to uninstall Norton in order to install Microsoft Security Essentials? I know it is not good to run multiple AV programs.

I believe we use Juniper but not real sure. I work for CenterPoint Energy in Houston and I use the VPN to remotely use my Workstation after I have accessed the network. It is just like I am sitting at my desk.
I needed to log on so I had to uninstall my Norton suite and install MSE so I could get connected. I did talk to our IT help desk and they said they use MSE on our servers and he said when I try to access our network with the VPN it looks on my home PC for some file and if the DAT is out of date or it does not see an approved AV software, it throws up a message that my AV is not approved.
I was running fine earlier last week and when I tried Thursday night, it said my AV was not approved and I had to get MSE.

Completely disable or remove the Mac App Store

Hello,
I have several Macintosh computers which are on an unmanaged network, however I need to control what applications are installed on these machines without having to dig through Parental Controls on each machine. My question is simple: *how do I go about disabling or removing the Mac App Store from these machines after updating to 10.6.6 properly ?* -- avoiding the update itself isn't a solution as all future updates are likely to have it bundled in as well.
Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Restricting access to App Store.app via CHMOD in the Terminal - messy and would prefer not to have to go this route.
2. Trashing App Store.app entirely - seems to reset the "App Store" link in the Apple menu back to "Mac OS X Downloads..." and does almost what I want except when opening unknown file types, the dialog asks you if you want to search the App Store at which point you hit the button and it does nothing. Seems a bit hacky/messy.
I was hoping there would be some sort of toggle for this via a PLIST or something of the sort instead of resorting to deleting system files etc.

If you have a computer lab or some similar environment where this app is inappropriate, just delete it. That's all you have to do. Yes, that means that the Search App Store button won't work when opening an unknown file type, but that's a minor issue that can be explained away easily by just telling people who encounter that issue that the App Store is disabled.
As to everyone else (not John S.A.) who does not have a good reason to disable it and has some kind of aesthetic or ethical gripe about it... quit the baby-whining! Geez, if you don't like it, you don't have to use it! Delete it or don't, but quit crying about it! You can still purchase and install applications the same way you did before the App Store. Apple is not forcing you to use it, they are not forcing you to enter any personal information.
I really don't get the whole "you get what the manufacturer wants you to have" nonsense. It is an option. Let's keep some perspective here, folks.

By voiding your warranty and hacking it. There may be other fixes though. Try resetting network settings in settings>general>reset. If that doesn't work try a hard reset. If that doesn't work then backup, restore as new, then from backup

I really LOVE Firefox. With over thirty years into the desktop computing industry, I can honestly say it's one of the most impressive development efforts I've seen. Thank you, seriously, all of you, everyone who has worked toward creating, maintaining and enabling the presence of this truly wonderful application!
I have never sought specific help with this one thing, and was just reminded a moment ago, how much better Firefox would be (for me) if I could completely disable/ uninstall the entire Bookmarks Toolbar _feature_. By the time this feature appeared, I had already developed and established my own system for filing bookmarks into a preset folder hierarchy. This works -much- better (for me) and I have no use for the Bookmarks Toolbar. It's always in my way, takes up screen space, and just really annoys the fecal-stuffin's out of me. Kinda reminds me of the -worst- things I remember of M$.
Once the feature is (somehow) killed, I'd like to then...
...Remove that folder from Bookmarks (menu, folder, etc -- all of it), and preferably, prevent it ever reappearing (setting 'lock'?).
I realize this -might- be something not currently 'doable' by standard means. If that should be the case, can someone forward this message into the 'feature request' queue for me? I truly would appreciate that.

Can I disable (or remove) the "migration administrator" account?

I installed a SBS 2011 server about two years ago - and migrated from an old SBS 2003 server.
In the process of migration, a "migration administrator" account was created. Now, I see it in my list of users and was wondering if I missed a step somewhere that should have deleted (or disabled) this account.
Is it safe to disable?

Its always a good practice to Disable a NON required account. You can read the description of the user account "If Any" . If its an account that is apart from BuiltInAdministrator, go ahead and delete or disable.
Normally in SBS 2008 and SBS 2011 Domain "Administrator" account as it is disabled by default. This is for security reasons as the most common account for hackers to use when launching an attack on your server is the default administrator account
name. If you need the "Administrator" account for some reason, though I don't recommend using it, it is in AD under the Uses OU not the MyBusiness\Users\SBSUsers OU. You will need to enable it, and assign a password.

Removing Norton Antivirus?

How do I remove all of Norton Antivirus? When I installed Snow Leopard, Norton Antivirus was not placed in a Incompatible Software folder. I have deactivated Symantec log-in items. I have run the Synmantec Uninstall program, but it reports that it can't find software to uninstall. I have removed the Symatec folder from my hard drive. Yet when I turn my iMac on, I get multiple error messages stating the Norton Antivirus must be reinstalled. Are there other files I have to remove to stop these error messages? Thank you.

In every other instance I have seen, the Symantec uninstall program ( _from their web site_ ) worked. I will not bore you with what I think of Norton software (my post would be deleted).
Do a "find" on symantec and norton. Be sure to include system files. Trash any thing that pops up.
If that does not get it all, I think I would try reinstalling OS X 10.6

Norton Antivirus Thinks Quicktime is a Worm

Just registered here to point out that the latest Norton AntiVirus update seems to be blocking Quicktime trailer viewing by default because it seems to think it's detecting a worm. To sort it just disable "Internet Worm Protection".
If a user deselects "Turn on AutoBlock" whilst attempting to fix the approriate setting then this seems to result in constant connects/disconnects to the server - which can't be doing it any good.

I was actually using a download manager to get a few trailer and then view them later. When I started seeing a load of one-off Worm related warning messages whilst using the download manager I released something was up. So the investigation started...
Apple should put a message up on their website to alert Norton users - although I can't find a way of telling Apple about this. I'm going to see if I can email Norton about this to make sure they know and fix it in their next definition update.

I added a persona, I've disabled and removed that persona, it keeps coming back. Going into tools does not help, adding a new persona does not help. I'm ready to give up on firefox!

I added a persona, wanted a new one so disabled and removed the old one. I added a new persona, but the old one keeps coming back. Going into tools/add ons does no good because it is not even listed anymore but keeps coming back. I've shut down/restarted, I've searched for answers to this problem.

The data that specifies which persona to display is stored as a pref in the prefs.js file in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Did you try to rename or move the prefs.js file and a possible user.js file to see if that helps?
Are you using the Personas Plus extension, because in that case you need to check the settings in that extension.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

However, I did not manage to disable or remove the icon beside the address bar of uwc login page. Is there any way to disable it?

You can put an entry in the magnus.conf of
ServerString none
This will make it not display the info about the server type and version but will not make your site any more secure.
